Father Responds to 400 lbs Attacker Who Said, 'I love your daughter, I want to rape your daughter'

Maurice Gordon’s quick action saved his daughter from a crazed neighbor last week.

A father in Bloomfield, Ct., used his handgun to save his daughter from a neighbor who was attempting to rape her, local media reported last week.

Maurice Gordon saw his 30-year-old daughter being attacked by one of his neighbors, Michael Farrigon, 43, while the woman was parked in the driveway of Gordon’s home. Farrigon approached the car, opened the door, and said he wanted to rape her.

“He went from the passenger side and was holding onto her saying that he wanted to rape her,” Gordon told local media on Friday.

The woman honked the horn and screamed, and soon escaped the car and fled to the house.

Farrigon followed and was met by Gordon at the door.

“He came up on the step and said ‘I love your daughter, I want to rape your daughter,’” Gordon said.

The two men started wrestling, and Gordon called for his wife to bring his gun.

Gordon brandished the gun at Farrigon and told him to leave.

“I hold the gun in my right [hand] and I said, ‘Mike I don’t want to hurt you please get off my property.’  Even with the gun in my hand I could see that he had no fear.”

Not wanting to hurt his neighbor, Gordon fired a warning shot into the sky.

“I had no choice than to fire,” Gordon said, “because I didn’t want to hurt him, so I fired a shot.”

Farrigon left, but returned soon after, so Gordon fired a second warning shot.

By this time police had arrived, and body cam footage shows officers subduing Farrigon and taking him into custody. He was arrested and charged with Unlawful Restraint, Attempted Sexual Assault, Attempted Home Invasion, and other offenses.

Warning shots are not illegal, but prosecutors can use them to prove that the use of deadly force was not necessary. Warning shots can also cause unintended harm, as Massad Ayood explained to NPR last year:

“When you raise the gun and blindly fire, you don’t know where that bullet will land,” he said. “A few decades ago I followed a case in New England where the guy raised his gun, fired what he thought was into the air, and the bullet struck and killed someone on the top floor porch of a nearby tenement building.”

Gordon’s shots do not appear to have caused any damage, and local media reports that Bloomfield Police detectives “conferred with the CT State’s Attorney Office while at the scene and were advised that criminal charges for the father would not be applicable for firing the weapon in this incident.”

At this point in time I think anyone harmed by a “warning shot” should be able to sue that idiot Joe Biden for telling these idiots that firing a warning shot is the thing to do

    • James N. October 23, 2020, 9:15 am

Biden is the typical know-nothing anti- gun propagandist.

Sounds like “Dad” was listening when a former WH VP said to “shoot the shotgun in the air” 😱😱 Dad should have put more holes in tuby tuby than what’s in a round of Swiss Cheese

Of course these types of articles never have enough information. Ill bet if anyone digs deeper(I dont give a funk) they will find these two guys are half wit buddies.Thats the reason dad didnt kill him.Stupid to shoot into the air.The real victim is the young lady.I hope she gets some training-firearm and empty hand.Oh Maurice-stow the gun and get some pepper spray so when you two douche bags have a falling out at least you wont kill your friend.

Now that guy is going to put a hurting on the logistics budget just having to feed his fat fucking worthless piece of shit ass. I bet any democrat reading this story is hoping that he voted early before he tried to rape the girl.

OK the warning shots were not a good idea.. what goes up must come down… but at least the guy and his daughter are safe. Not being illegal does not always to translate to being logical.

Warning shots are a waste of ammo! The only warning shot that a crazed criminal needs are to the chest, head, or groin!! This perp will get a reduced sentence, if he is even convicted at all, and will do it again, ti her or someone else.

Sometimes simply having a gun available in the house is enough to end the confrontation (at least in this case, once it was brought to the homeowner).
Sometimes the appearance of a gun on your person is enough to end the confrontation.
Sometimes having a gun in your hands is enough to end the confrontation.
Sometimes having a gun pointed at your attacker is enough to end the confrontation.
Sometimes rounds from your gun impacting your attacker is enough to end the confrontation.
    Sometimes….
Nothing is guaranteed. “Warning” shots waste ammo and time, two things you may very well need to help you end the confrontation in an acceptable way.

Warning shot?? I don’t think so. He was already warned. If it was my daughter, all my warning shots would’ve been center mass and face until the attacker ceased moving/breathing. It’s tough shit of people don’t like it. My daughter’s safety is way more important than the life of a rapist.

The thing is, it was his neighbor, was know to him, presumably had a neighborly relationship. It’s a lot harder to use deadly force to somebody who you may actually like.

One between the eyes, one between the testicles!Goodbye big boy!

  • Cyrus October 26, 2018, 7:46 am

Everything seems fine by me except when he fired the warning shots. Why wouldn’t he fire the warning shots into the ground well in front of the deranged neighbor? That’s what I would do to decrease the chance that the bullet finds and innocent person. Am I wrong with this thinking? I guess it would not apply if the groun d was concrete instead of a lawn. Then you got the ricochet element in play. So, I guess I plead ignorance here, where is the correct place to fire a warning shot?

    • Shane York October 26, 2018, 8:10 am

My personal warning shot is 2 to the chest. I was always taught that when the guns come out the time for warnings is over.

    • Bob October 26, 2018, 9:14 am

Yes Cyrus you are wrong. No need to fire a warning shot ever. As the article states that merely confirms that your life was not in danger because if it were you would have shot the perpetrator. At that point you just retreat back into the safety of your home and await the arrival of the police because you should already have dialed 911. When that person does not follow your commands and assuming you are in fear of your life, it is time to fire the weapon it should only be directed at the person threatening your safety.

    • AJ October 26, 2018, 10:08 am

Not everyone with a firearm has the will power to actually put someone in the ground unless the are in immediate danger. You yourself will never actually know if you will be able to do it yourself until it actually happens, god forbid. Unless you’ve actually been in a life or death situation you can’t even speak for yourself on the matter. All this “I’d put two in his chest” pissing match bullshit melts away when you have to make that call. Regardless of training or mental state, it becomes fight or flight, until it becomes second nature through repetitive action. This guy had control of the situation and did what he thought he would be able to handle. If that perp had advanced, shit may have escalated. It’s called escalation of force.

Now all you Facebook action badge recipients, space shuttle door Gunners, and call of duty combat instructors can keep a tight lip. Everyone has an opinion, few have practical experience to go along with it.

Mike will get out, get high again, and return. Who knows if he will be successful or not. For me, his potential to return would have been ended the first time.

  • TS Thomas October 24, 2018, 4:57 pm

I figured that it wouldn’t turn out well for the would-be attacker knowing that this was on a Gunsamerica posting. Then I see the father had to have the gun brought to him. Then I see that there were “warning shots” fired. Ugh. Firearms ignorance and these people persevered in spite of themselves. Scary stuff indeed.
