Faxon Firearms is happy to announce that they’re adding Ruger-pattern 10/22 receivers to their lineup. The company’s been making 10/22 barrels for a little while and now they’re doing receivers, too, with the new FF-22.
While the Ruger 10/22 has been one of the most popular rifles for new shooters, training, plinking and small game hunting, especially without spending a lot, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. Faxon is the latest third-party manufacturer getting into the aftermarket receiver business.
The FF-22 is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum stock and comes as a kit including the receiver, the V-block, the V-block screws, and bolt buffer. It has a black hardcoat anodized finish for protection.
It’s a fixed-barrel receiver and is designed to be compatible with all Ruger and aftermarket 10/22 components (not including takedown components). The rail has a standard right-side ejection port and an integral flattop Picatinny rail for optics.
With a retail price set at $185, the FF-22 is a middle-of-the-road option for anyone looking to build their own custom 10/22 rifle or pistol, as well as a solid replacement or upgrade for existing 10/22s. And of course, these are a great match for Faxon’s recently launched line of 10/22 barrels.
Faxon offers a wide range of modern 10/22 barrels in a variety of finishes and profiles. All of their current 10/22 barrels are chambered for .22 Long Rifle and measure in at 16 inches long. They’re also all threaded for 1/2×28 muzzle devices.
Faxon’s three finishes include a straw gold titanium nitride physical vapor deposition finish, their unique and rainbow multicolor Chameleon PVD and a standard black polished nitride finish.

The company is well-known for their lightweight and accurate Pencil profile barrels and their line of 10/22 barrels, of course, include a very light option in .22 LR. Their pencil profile 10/22 barrel is one of five profiles Faxon produces and weighs just a single pound.
The four other profiles include straight-fluted and “Flame-fluted” tapered profile barrels as well as straight fluted and Flame-fluted bull barrels. All five profiles are offered in all three finishes.

What I want is a Ruger 1022 type rifle chambered in FN 5.7×28 with a 16-ish barrel length. I mentioned that to Ruger when they released the Ruger 57 pistol and they didn’t seem too enthusiastic about the idea.
After years of encountering some which can, some which can’t, and most which can’t be determined, please, manufacturers, explicitly tell us if your 10/22 barrels may also be used on a 77/22!
Swing and a miss on the receiver. Before anodizing, a small hole should have been put in the rear of the receiver for the eventual cleaning of the barrel. Anyone with any experience with the platform would know this is one of the easiest, and most effective modifications to the receiver. Too bad Faxon won’t allow reviews on their website until a purchase has been made. Maybe there will be a second revision and I’ll pick one up.
