Sen. Feinstein Proposes Age Limit for 'Assault Weapons' and 'High Cap' Mags

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein reintroduced this week a bill that would raise the minimum age to 21 for anyone attempting to purchase an “assault weapon” and/or a “high-capacity” magazine. The California Democrat introduced the same bill last year in the Senate, but has decided to try her hand again in the wake of a murder that took place at a San Diego synagogue last week.

“If you’re too young to purchase a handgun, you shouldn’t be able to buy an assault rifle,” Feinstein said. “It’s common sense to prevent the sale of deadly assault weapons to individuals who aren’t even allowed to buy a beer. This isn’t a fix-all bill, but it closes a gaping loophole in federal gun safety laws, and I hope the Senate will act on it swiftly.”

Current federal law allows anyone age 18 or older to purchase any type of rifle, and there is no minimum age requirement to purchase a magazine. Eighteen-year-olds are considered legal adults under U.S. law and are permitted to enter the military, register to vote, get married, and purchase cigarettes.

While the text of Feinstein’s legislation hasn’t been released, last year’s version of the bill restricted the sale of semi-automatic rifles deemed “assault weapons,” magazines with capacities over ten rounds, and (strangely) “ammunition that is suitable for use only in a handgun or semiautomatic assault weapon.”

That bill was also sponsored by Republican Arizona Senator Jeff Flake, who famously quarreled with President Trump before retiring after the senator’s term ended last year. President Trump briefly supported raising the age limit to purchase “assault rifles” before backing off the idea several weeks later.

Without the President’s support, Feinstein and Flake’s bill died in a Republican-controlled Senate committee. There’s little reason to believe the same won’t happen this year.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 first established age restrictions on firearms purchases, setting the minimum age for long guns (rifles and shotguns) to 18 and handguns to 21. Age restrictions on “assault weapons” have been in vogue recently after several high-profile massacres were perpetrated by adults under the age of 21.

But despite recent anomalies, research indicates that most mass murderers acquire their firearms from friends and family.

A report published last year by the Federal Commission on School Safety noted as much in its comprehensive review of policies designed to stop school shootings.

“The existing research findings on the efficacy of current minimum age of firearm purchase laws do not support the conclusion that those laws have a measurable impact on reducing homicides, suicides, or unintentional deaths,” the report says.

That’s not likely to stop Feinstein, of course, who’s made a career out of proposing anti-gun policies. The California Senator was one of the architects behind the now-defunct 1994 “assault weapons” ban and has more recently proposed a renewal of that policy.

Oh, I love this “action shot,” of the DF (haha) pretending to work, but a better shot than this would be one of her being hoisted high, at the end of a rope, while her so-called constituency rants, raves, and blubbers, like the Hitlary supporters did in November, 2016. If you pulled her up high enough, you’d see HER concealed carry pistol, but the general populace “…needs to turn them all in.” Die in agony, COMMIE WHORE!

  • Michael J May 8, 2019, 10:09 am

How about an age limit for senile politicians?

  • Slowposter May 4, 2019, 5:43 pm

Hmmm. My daughters, who I trained well from an early age, received their personal AR15s from Santa at Christmas when they were 10 & 13. They never massacred anyone.
I also take them to church regularly.

  • Kb31416 May 4, 2019, 5:26 pm

She just hates my rifle because it’s black ….

  • Charles Moore May 4, 2019, 4:16 pm

Nice photo of Feinstein at her desk looking for her pen. Note the pagan idol on her desk and possible shrine on the shelf in the background. All you need to know in one pic.

  • Bobs your uncle May 4, 2019, 3:52 pm

after watching the senator and others disgrace themselves at the Kavanaugh hearings, I would be suspicious of anything the say or do. She simply is not entitled to an opinion on anything. I must say though, I like the cluttered, busy work, desk giving the appearance of a heavy work load and yet shes not too busy to challenge your constitutional rights, or create sanctuary cities and states for non-citizens

  • Gunsmoke16 May 4, 2019, 3:09 pm

I prepose an age limit and time limit on senators and congressmen. No more than 8yrs and once you hit 60, you’re gone. This dingbat keeps preposing gun control measures one after another. She’s about as useless as tits on a boar hog.

  • SeppW May 4, 2019, 3:06 pm

Enact more gun control instead of addressing the real issue. Brilliant!

  • Mike May 4, 2019, 9:43 am

Sorry CA, but I didn’t elect that knucklehead so as long as she keeps her crazy in CA then I don’t care what she does. You people keep electing her, now deal with the aftermath. That lady is so disconnected with the people SHE serves that I’m pretty sure she believes she owns her position when actually she SERVES her voters. If anyone thinks that this bill will do anything, then they truly deserve that lame excuse for a bag of mostly water.

  • Glenn61 May 4, 2019, 7:38 am

There needs to be an age limit on Socialist stupidity. When it comes to politicians, Dianne Feinstein is past her expiration date.

    • William May 5, 2019, 8:13 am

look at her desk, I guess her shredder is jammed with frivolous ideals in her opinion, by the people / for the people. WHAT ??? shorter term for lifers in both houses

  • Kathy Graham May 4, 2019, 1:23 am

In my opinion if a person is old enough to serve and protect this Great Nation then they should be able to purchase and own a firearm!!! Whether a hand gun or AR type firearm!!

  • FirstStateMark May 3, 2019, 10:13 pm

This is how Dianne Feinstein gets re-elected over and over. It’s just feel good laws which hurt law abiding citizens in a super liberal state. She thinks California laws should be enforced across the country. That’s what liberals do. She’s just wasting tax payers money.

  • Johnny May 3, 2019, 8:56 pm

God help California, the looney tune Democrats are too ignorant to ever understand that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun! God warned us about the fools of the left, He wasn’t kidding!

But boy…..elect them to office and AmeriKans put them on a pedestal as a god!

And then there was the video surfaced in which an Obamacare architect Jonathon Gruber said that “the stupidity of the American voter” made it important for him and Democrats to hide Obamacare’s true costs from the public.

  • The Millionth Counsel May 3, 2019, 4:01 pm

One more reason why these 18-21 year olds that have an interest in firearms need to get registered to vote and get to the polls and vote pro gun. The anti-gun crowd often have register to vote booths set up at anti gun rallies, and even pop star concerts to encourage young people to vote for anti gun candidates. We better start following their lead.

  • skipNclair May 3, 2019, 2:34 pm

Apparently Feinstein has not taken the time to walk through a National Cemetery and noticed the number of men that died so she could have the freedoms granted not only by God almighty, but also by the Constitution. She also should take notice to the percentage of those that sacrificed under the age of 21. How dare she snub her nose at those between the ages of 17-21. Old enough to die in the conflicts you politicians bring to them, but not old enough to own a gun, the very thing you ask them to use to kill men of other nations. I truly hope she and her kind rot in hell for their evil. And for all of those that vote for these types may you do the same.

    • deanbob May 4, 2019, 2:25 am

And yet, they think 18 is ok for the same populace to vote? The number of hypocritical things they say and do is amazing – and never ending.

      • Dewey May 6, 2019, 6:47 pm

Kind of like constitution-loving ‘Murricans loving their unconstitutional standing army. You guys might want to actually read the whole thing, at least once. Regardless of whether they believe it or not, every one in the military serves corporate interests, not their fellow citizens and their make-believe “freedom”.

By the way, have demoRATS begun reporting sightings of ginzberg? Sightings such as seeing ginzy walking into an Indian casino with finesteen and shoomer?

  • Robert Mccallum May 3, 2019, 1:54 pm

Feinstein has publicly stated she is about total gun confiscation… this is simply a step in that direction. People are fools if they trust the Government… look no further than Venezuela who confiscation of guns in 2012 has now allowed their government to kill civilians unchallenged

  • Michael A Keim May 3, 2019, 1:27 pm

But you can join the military and get shot in the endless war in the middle east. Fuck you Dianne and Jeff.

    • Dewey May 6, 2019, 6:48 pm

Sure you can, if you’re stupid.

  • George Lallement May 3, 2019, 1:10 pm

Yeah she want to raise the gun buying age, but drop voting age to 16 and lt imprisoned criminals and ILLEGAL immigrants vote in national election. She needs to be put out to pasture

    • Charles Moore May 4, 2019, 4:28 pm

Put out to pasture? That would require the assumption that she is still of measurable utility. There’s only ONE use for the likes of her. Instead, send her to the glue factory.

  • Mr. Robin Price May 3, 2019, 1:03 pm

Ms. Feinstein should go to classes on how to identify rifles. Unless you have a FFL III you cannot buy an ASSAULT WEAPONS. See that’s the problem with PEOPLE in Washington, they have no idea what they are talking about. Modern Sporting Rifles ARE NOT ASSAULT WEAPONS !!!!!!! GO TO SCHOOL Ms. Feinstein !!!!!!!!

  • B May 3, 2019, 11:58 am

Using Feinstein’s logic that if your not 21 you are too young and not responsible enough to buy/own a handgun, in addition to not being able to buy/own a rifle/shotgun, you are therefore also not responsible enough to drink, smoke, drive a car, join the military or vote! All of these things are better left to “adults”…

  • John Harkonen May 3, 2019, 11:48 am

Who and where are ” Assault Weapons ” sold ? Feinstein doesn’t even know what an Assault Weapon is.Remember years ago she wanted to ban semiautomatic rifles as Assault Weapons ?

    • Peter Brown May 3, 2019, 2:21 pm

Those evil rifles had evil bayonet lugs and were black…..simple qualifications for simple politicians WELL beyond their time.

      • Charles Moore May 4, 2019, 4:32 pm

They would (if they knew) add the turned-down portion of the M4 profile barrel as a deadly, restricted feature, since that is where the evil in-common-use-in-mass-killings greanade launcher mounts. YIKES!

  • Dave Brown May 3, 2019, 10:53 am

First off I do not like much about any form of Government. In fact I figure U all should take ur governments back asap. Me at 67 I don’t much worry about it, but then my Grand Buds have to live in what I have left them. I did not read this news word for word as I know what it will say. Me, just should 110 firearms as I am moving and down sizing. But, I got about 80 shooters left, and a few I won’t shoot much if at all. I lean more right then left, yet I have never voted a straight ticket in 49 years of voting.

Point I am making is I have been shooting for over 55 years. I have seen gun and even ammo control back in the 70’s, and I still have some hi cap 10/22 mags from before they were outlawed back then. But, of course we made them legal again. Also, I could drive legally at age 16, drink 3.2 Beet at 18, Get my Draft Card for V N that same year, and of course register to Vote. Then at 21 I could legally drink Bourbon!

Point is some form of gun and even mag control might not kill us. We have had Gun Control since we got the FFL System, and I like my FFL. Free Your Mind, Be Party Blind. God Bless US All.

    • Robert Mccallum May 3, 2019, 1:51 pm

The problem sir is none of her laws will stop this violence… the Virginia tech shooter killed 32 people with a pistol. All these “feel good” laws do is further restrict our rights. There is even videos done by the sheriffs dept showing lower capacity mags will not stop a mass shooter.. he will just carry more mags , and you will never get ahold of him during a reload … all these restrictions just lead to registration and then an outright ban , just as we have seen in California, NY and other stats… you are gullible if you believe Feinstein will stop at an age restriction.. she has even said he goal is total confiscation… wake up pal, these government socialists are not our friends

      • Charles Moore May 4, 2019, 11:40 pm

The lowlife in Parkland, FL used 10-round magazines that Feinstein and others say are fine (for NOW!) and safe. They were the only ones, said he, that he could conceal in the bag that he had.

  • Dousman Bob May 3, 2019, 10:34 am

So if they increase the age to 21 because they might be immature, why does the left want to lower the voting age ‘because they are mature’?

  • Dr. English May 3, 2019, 10:26 am

This sorry old bag of sheep shit isn’t smart enough to know that a motivated (crazy) person can do as much damage with almost ANY kind of firearm as was done in the synagogue. It’s not the gun, you elitist cow, it’s the looney who is using it that you need to go after. Her concern about public safety is quite hypocritical and is in lock step with the rest of the brain dead sheep on the Left. Why not go after drunk drivers who kill and injure more Americans annually than ALL gun violence combined? California has a terrible record with repeat drunk driving offenders and they STILL prowl the roadways in the state. Hey moo cow…. If you’re so concerned about safety then do something to protect motorists from drunks. Unfortunately getting drunks off the streets isn’t nearly as touchy-feely as denying honest citizens of legal age their ability to buy a mean ol’ black rifle. We are losing our rights inch by inch due to the continual undermining provided by the Left. Now is the time to stand and fight against the encroaching “guvmint” and its cronies like this old turd.

    • Norm Fishler May 3, 2019, 11:33 am

The bloated old gas bag knows full well that ANY restrictions on the 2A are an exercise in futility. It is the practice of limiting the Second Amendment that they want to keep alive. “Nobody’s gonna miss a slice off a cut loaf,” is a strategy they’ve been practicing for a considerable while now and thus far it seems to be working. It is instructive to note that the first piece of national gun legislation in America (the National Firearms Act of 1934) was written by the NRA. People in Illinois, California, New York and other socialist wanna-be hell holes honestly think it’s normal to have to petition the state for the privilege of transporting their firearm to the range for a limited practice session. They think it’s normal to have restrictions on how much ammo they can buy and how many rounds your magazine can hold. The entire point of the restrictions are to establish that they will NOT work and thus leaving the door open for more restrictions. On and on it goes . . . when will you have had enough?

  • Awesome Bill from Dawsonville May 3, 2019, 10:11 am

Perhaps an age limits aren’t such a bad thing. Diane Feinstein is 85, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are both 79. In the Senate, there are currently 5 senators serving in their 80’s, 18 in their 70’s and 32 in their 60’s. Science has proven that mental declines start around age 45 and get worse as we age. Maybe Sen. Feinstein needs to do what’s best for America….

  • Kimberprosss May 3, 2019, 9:56 am

  • No1hunter May 3, 2019, 9:51 am

Well, where is the ban on teens in motor vehicle????? Where is the demand the driving age be raised to 21?????

  • David May 3, 2019, 9:43 am

This woman, and her cadre don’t have the sense God gave a goose. The irony here is thick. Let’s allow 16 year olds to vote, potentially affecting rights they don’t even have yet. And in the same breath, but you need to be 21 to buy a rifle. You can make the decision to lay down your life and kill for your country at 18, but no way should you be able to buy a gun. Has this woman lost her fucking mind?

  • Bill Beveridge May 3, 2019, 8:57 am

Feinstein needs to be put out to pasture. She finds every controversial stage to get in the middle of. How about getting rid of the real problem. California can’t get out of the huge retirement bill she’ll receive but they can start saving billions of dollars in her continued idiotic law suits.

  • joefoam May 3, 2019, 8:35 am

Ms Feinstein could care less about the safety of Americans, she only wants to have a ‘legacy’. The AWB of 1994 was an abject failure but that won’t stop her from ignoring the facts and ask for another failure.

  • Mike Wilson May 3, 2019, 8:14 am

How about all of the Politicians give up their guns and armed Security if guns are such a bad idea ? Lead by example. Sick of these politicians trying to take our rights while ignoring the same thing themselves. Criminals don’t follow the laws so gun control laws are not going to solve the problem. Get rid of gun free zones and allow 50 State CCW if you really want to stop crime and cut down on mass shootings.

  • Steve Taylor May 3, 2019, 7:44 am

Why doesn’t Dianne sit on an assault weapon. She’ll be hard pressed to find one as most only have sporting rifles. But any military base might accommodate her in a pinch. Sideways lady!

  • Rangemaster11B May 3, 2019, 7:30 am

My Uncle Sam gave me an M16 when I was 17. When I was 19 he gave me charge of 200 of ’em, along with about a $M of other weapons and equipment. If you are old enough to serve, and/or vote, that should be sufficient. Once again, it is about incremental control.

    • BR549 May 3, 2019, 8:48 am

I might go out on a limb here and suggest that, if a person is capable of not getting kicked out of the service, he has at least run a gauntlet of a sort and should not have to comply with any 21 year age limit.

When I was in the service 50 years ago, the gubmint was already doing background checks, anyway. I assume they are still doing that, so why duplicate that? Also exempt from that rule should be any minor who already has an established history of active NRA or GOA membership along with range participation, which would mean a parent or guardian had been involved in their training.

I’m not trying to convolute this process any more than Congress and the BATFE have already made it, but if Congress hadn’t been doing such a piss-poor job at social management, and focused more on doing what they were hired to do instead of posturing for job security, perhaps we’d have far more people in this country who didn’t feel so disenfranchised and unhinged.

Bottom line here is that if Feinstein is looking for answers to the San Diego and other shootings, perhaps she and the rest of her 2A critical Congressional cohorts should start looking in the mirror. Disenfranchise enough people in the population, try to emasculate them from being able to protest and to protect themselves, and sooner or later politicians would be hanging from every tree on Main Street.

    • CharlieKing1 May 3, 2019, 8:55 am

Rangemaster11B- Hear! Hear! You are spot on. DiFi is pouting about ‘you can’t buy a beer at 18’ but she damn well ignores the facts as you laid out. If you’re old enough to serve in the military at 18, then you’re old enough to buy a so called ‘assault weapon’! Otherwise, change the entry age into the military to 21 years of age. Numb skulled politicians…

  • Martin Bury May 3, 2019, 6:10 am
