Florida University Students Wearing Empty Holsters to Class to Oppose Gun Control

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Students at Florida Gulf Coast University are wearing empty holsters to class Tuesday to show their support for the Second Amendment.

“We’re going to wear empty gun holsters on our belts. They are empty, they are going to be shown so everybody sees it,” explained Ryan Kennedy, a member of FGCU’s College Republicans to local news affiliate WINK.

Kennedy said participants want to be extra sure that everyone on campus knows that it’s a planned demonstration so there is no confusion.

“We really want to clear up any misconceptions you have because you’re right, people do get afraid and we want to try and clear that up,” said Kennedy.

“We do support the second amendment. We do support a person’s right to bear arms. We’re against assault weapon ban and we want to express our viewpoints as conservative students,” he continued.

Florida governor Rick Scott recently signed legislation aimed at both improving school security and restricting the 2A.  Specifically, as it relates to gun control, the law bans reciprocating stocks, creates a 3-day wait period for gun purchases and prohibits adults under the age of 21 from buying firearms.

Democrats had also been kicking around a measure to ban black rifles.  Thankfully, it was omitted from the final version of The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act that Gov. Scott penned last month.

But they’re not giving up.  Now Dems are pushing to bring the ban on modern sporting rifles to the ballot box in 2020.  “Let the people decide,” so to speak.  It’s the only move Dems can make given the GOP’s control of the Legislature.

Hopefully, if/when there is a vote, enough Floridians follow the lead of these FGCU students and see the ban for what it is.  Infringement on a fundamental right.  Time will tell.

Marine Veteran of 22 yrs. A Patrol Officer for over 13 yrs in a large metroplex in Texas. What a bunch of uneducated people that have no clue about what it will take to stop school shootings. First, the lack of security at every school in America needs to be corrected. We cannot let children at school kill each other with any firearm. Even handguns can potentially kill fifty children in a just a few minutes. Double stacked magazines in a semi auto pistol, or a simple propane gas container will kill many children almost instantly. Furthermore, All Police Officers should be trained correctly, and not stand up to the suspect by hiding around the corner of the School. These Officers are cowards, and should be fired on the spot for failing to act. If they don’t have the courage to run to the chaos they are not needed on any law enforcement anywhere. Hiring very young Officers, or any Officers that have no prior training in this type of work should be screened very carefully, and a high attrition rate should be considered normal. Many Officers join for the two monthly paydays.
School shootings anywhere should not be surprising. Teachers have Junior High kids that are totally out of control. Fighting in class, hitting teachers in class, missing 30 or more days, and are still promoted to the next grade level. No punishment or teacher authority in class is adequate proof we the parents, teachers, and society have sadly failed to protect our children in America.
Firearms are stolen in every home and business all over this country. The perpetrators are the ones burglarizing and stealing firearms every day. We must enforce and strengthen our laws in this area. Any burglar stealing firearms from homes or businesses should be punished with both monetary fines and given a hefty minimum mandatory prison term. Our government should also consider partially funding homeowners that need a gun safe, but cannot afford them. Not only are safes preventing burglars, but can also be extremely helpful in storing all their personal papers, jewelry, etc.
Our government should stop and listen to the people. These laws are only compounding the problem, costing billions of dollars enforcing, and are not having any effects on burglars. Burglars don’t care what the law says they are CRIMINALS.

Why not leave the left and right political parties out of the Gun control issue, There are as many gun lovers and 2 amendment supporters on both left and right. Some of the people of both parties have the same crazy ideas and opinions about Guns, don’t hold a whole party responsible for what a few do. I was an American fighting man for 23 years, Civil Service for 3 more years. I’m liberal but do you take my right because i’m liberal, no. When you talk about gun Lovers, i don’t think the parties have nothing to do with it, why make a political problem of Our right to bare Arms. I have a group of Guns, a few of the best gun makers, i will not let no one take what i fought for. I haven’t been on the couch. I reported to Uncle Sam every morning my whole youthful life. I will not give up my guns and i will not have no one put control or stipulations on what kind and how many i can have, i fought for that right. I fought for the Constitution and this Country, i will make sure i stand for what i fought for

      Sly-

Thank you for pointing out that there are members of the democratic party who have concerns about gun control. I will take exception to your comment that the political parties should be left out of the discussion as a major part of your parties platform rests firmly on the belief that the 2A should be changed or even that the wording is somehow ambiguous. I suggest that rather then leave out the party names those that are in the party of the left work to change the platform rather then convince others that painting all Dems as anti gun is inappropriate. Your argument is kind of like Yogi bear suggesting that All bears eat from picnic baskets.

#2Aemptyholster. Maybe we should all start wearing empty holsters daily to show support of our 2A.

I fear for our next generation. They are going to be a bunch of useless sheep.

Governor Scott, does the 3 day wait period also apply to bad guys buying stolen firearms with serial numbers filed off? Just wondering.

I like the typical symbolic liberal parallel. An empty holster for an empty mind.

Do they carry the rubber penises in them like the students at the Texas college did?

    • srsquidizen April 13, 2018, 7:24 am

When referring to liberals, whether subject organ is located between their legs or above the neck, use of the short plural “penes” or “penii” is appropriate.

If students would get more concerned about students left out of a group. The sports group, the cheer group the chess pros, etc. but what about the students not in a group. Those students that nobody talks to and that nobody wants to eat with, that are made fun of and teased and bullied. Theses students usually drop out or just don’t show up for classes anymore. If all students would take a little time to include everyone, to talk to and eat with those students, stand up to the students bullying and don’t go along with those teasing other students. Start something positive to include all the students. Guns would not be a problem and no one would have to worry about someone coming back to get his tormentors. Think about that.

Ideally, yes. But you can’t regulate or legislate human character. SO while promoting everything you said, we also need to allow the God-given right to self defense.

      • Zupglick April 13, 2018, 11:28 am

Don’t tell a liberal “you can’t regulate or legislate human character”. They have been trying to for decades. It’s why we have so many useless and un-enforceable laws on the books.

An empty holster is just that, an empty holster. To be afraid of an empty holster just shows how wimpy our youth has become. Buy Henny Penny would sure be proud of them for being afraid!
