Florida Woman Fatally Shoots Home Invader w/ AR-15

Defensive Use of Firearms This Week Uncategorized

Update 11/4/2019: Local media is now reporting that the woman, who is eight months pregnant, used an “AR-style rifle” to defend her home and her family from the home invaders.

A Florida woman fatally shot one of two home invaders this week, reports local media.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday night when the two suspects broke into the residence in Lithia, a suburb of Tampa, and began making demands.

Police say that the intruders pistol-whipped the male homeowner during what appears to be a shakedown of sorts.

While the male homeowner was being attacked, the female homeowner obtained a legally-owned firearm and shot one of the suspects.

Apparently the two perps fled the scene following the shooting.  One managed to get into a car and drive off, the other was found dead in a nearby ditch.

Investigators are still searching for the suspect that got away.

Though details are still developing, it appears that the intruders specifically targeted the homeowners.  It wasn’t a random act of violence, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said

Meanwhile, the male victim was taken to a local hospital and treated.  He was listed in “stable” condition.

Yeah, I have a question…why are they getting a search warrant for the victim’s house!!!

      There are a couple reasons..

It legally protects the investigators, who need a guarantee they get to search the whole house. Going in on consent means that the victim can withdraw consent whenever they want. What happened in the room you don’t want me to look in? It may be relevant to the investigation, or not. Without a warrant to guarantee access you might miss out on a part of the crime someone wants to conceal.

Another possible reason is the first officers that got there may have discovered something in plain view that indicates other criminality is going on, like evidence of drug sales. They’d need a warrant to search the rest of the house based on what they saw left out.

The lady who shot one of the intruders is indeed the victim, with the facts we know at the moment. She may not be as innocent as it seems though. The intruders weren’t guys wearing ski masks that got shot carrying out a tv. They “specifically targeted” the couple. When I see that, it indicates to me this was probably a “dope house rip.”
