Small arms industry leader FN America just announced the Edge, a competition-ready pistol that expands their extremely popular 509 series. The FN 509 LS Edge is a full-sized striker-fired pistol chambered for 9mm Luger with an extended slide and barrel.

But it doesn’t begin and end there. In addition to the 5-inch barrel, the gun comes loaded with features designed to tear up the range at gun games everywhere.

Extended slides offer better practical accuracy with their longer sight radii, but with all things there is a trade-off, and that’s more reciprocating mass. Experienced competition shooters know that the extra mass can introduce more muzzle flip and increase felt recoil.

That’s not the case with the Edge, as the slide is thoroughly lightened to match the weight of a standard 4-inch slide, giving shooters the benefit of the longer sight radius without the flip and increased time between splits.

As for sights, the Edge has a lot of options. From the factory the Edge comes with a tall green fiber optic front sight and a wide U-notch target rear sight and the slide is cut for mini red dot optics.

The pistol has a top plate cover that acts as a rear sight protector that can be removed for use with compatible red dot sights. Both the front and rear sights are suppressor height and can cowitness with low-profile red dots.

FN redesigned the grip using an updated, aggressive “Perimeter” texture and extended the left-side magazine release, while recessing the right-side mag button. Like other 509 pistols the Edge comes with a curved and a flat backstrap to suit different hand sizes and shooting styles.

The Edge has an aluminum “funnel”-style flared magwell for fast reloads and the magazines have aluminum floorplates to match. While the gun comes standard with three 17-round magazines it is compatible with extended 24-round mags used in many competitions. Limited 10-round magazines are available for restricted markets.

Internally, FN made some changes to the Edge. The pistol has a flat-faced trigger with a passive trigger safety that breaks at 90 degrees. The striker was also redesigned for less resistance for a lighter, cleaner trigger pull. And the barrel ramp and chamber are polished smooth for improved feeding and extraction with a wide variety of ammunition.

All of these features make the Edge a solid pistol for competition as well as a good full-size option for self defense, particularly as a nightstand gun. They’re not cheap, however. With the tweaks and upgrades the Edge has a list price of $1,499. That does include the magazines, a ballistic case and four mounting plates.

Ref. Chris vs silly child: If you are speaking to Jeremy, i have to respond.
Do you work for MSNBC freedom of speech dept.?
Where does metallic frames out do polymer?
ALL of my pistols (Sig and Glock) have polymer frames….
Pistols have the same ears so they are all in the same corral. The only thing that separates them is barrel, trigger and slide.
As he stated, for almost $1000 dollars, I can soup up any pistol I have to perform in any competition…
I personally will not have Wesson or Colt in my house…I remember what the Civil War was about; taxes, tariffs and the first time the Army was used against citizens.

Another gun for which there is no ammo.

“Experienced competition shooters know that the extra mass can introduce more muzzle flip and increase felt recoil.” What??? A CZ TSO slide with no barrel or recoil spring is 13.8 oz. A S&W Shield’s slide with no barrel and recoil spring is 9.6 oz. The CZ has 30% more reciprocating mass in the slide… Please tell me who will shoot these two pistols with the same ammo and walk away saying the big CZ has more felt recoil and more muzzle flip.

Ok I’m confused, why does this gun have a msrp of $1,499? Other longslide polymer strikers with similar features have a msrp of about half of this FN. I can buy a ppq Q5 match or Glock 34 gen5 and drop an apex flat face trigger shoe in and still be $600-$700 cheaper. And there’s no way this gun is $600-$700 more gun than a Q5 match or gen5 g34. With?

It’s probably going to be the standard firearm of “Space Force.”

Silly child, you obviously don’t know what you are talking about. Please do yourself a favor and do your homework, read. I’m sure you will realize what you have said is incorrect, especially about the Walther. This is an all steel frame gun, just like the high end Walther. The numbers you speak of reflect polymer gun frames. Again, please educate yourself before you speak your mind in public.
