In 2018, Bear Hyde set out to develop an ultralight rifle case that allows users to customize the configuration without the need for additional inserts. After over two years of research and development, countless prototypes, and field testing, Bear Hyde is proud to introduce the Goat; the first all carbon fiber firearms case with a patent pending Vacuum Rigidizing Structure (VRS).

The Goat is a single rifle case that weighs in at 12 lbs. and is 51″ L x 13.75″ W x 4″ H. It features snag-free chamfered edges, carbon fiber hinges, inset security latches, and integrated aluminum lock hasps for additional locks. The top half of the case is lined with foam padding while the main body contains the VRS system. Bear Hyde decided to use inset security latches for a few reasons. Being inset, they are protected from getting snagged on other gear or damaged, and the cylindrical lock is nearly impossible to pick.

The inset locks reduce the risk of snags and the cylindrical locks are impossible to pick.

It’s positively buoyant so it floats, and the high strength carbon fiber with chamfered edges makes the Goat crush resistant. During testing, they drove over the case with a pickup truck and an ATV. They discovered the case will bow but won’t get crushed or cracked and the contents remained unaffected.  Carbon fiber is proven to have a high strength to weight ratio making it a great choice for this application.

The hinges are reinforced with carbon fiber.

The VRS system allows users to custom fit any firearm, ammo, optic, equipment, etc. without the need for custom foam inserts. The proprietary vacuum bag becomes rigid when placed under a vacuum. It will secure and “hug” the contents in place, safely protecting them while in transport. As long as it fits in the case, it will be secured. Bear Hyde claims the Goat can withstand the roughest baggage handlers and being dropped while keeping the contents firmly in place. The bag is made from a scratch resistant material. If you can drag the object across your hand without getting cut, it’s safe to put in the case. An included hand pump allows you to operate the VRS system. Watch the video below to see how it works.

“Only 12 lbs.”…?! WTF?! You put a 14 lb. precision rifle in this and you’re carrying a 26 lb. case around. It better have wheels! I think a 1.2 lb. rifle case would be a lot more impressive. Just sayin…
