Gun Industry, Gun-Control Advocates React to Amy Coney Barrett’s Confirmation

Current Events This Week

Bad news for gun banners.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett (ACB) was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court this week.

Reactions from both sides of the gun divide were immediate, and as expected, with pro-gun groups celebrating ACB’s confirmation and anti-gun groups denouncing it.

“On behalf of our millions of members, we offer congratulations to all who participated in the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett as a Justice of the United States Supreme Court,” said Jason Ouimet, executive director, NRA-ILA. “She promises to serve our nation with distinction and honor.”

“I believe the nation has gained a remarkable addition to the highest court in the land,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “We have truly witnessed history in the making, and we are confident her confirmation cements President Donald Trump’s fulfillment of his campaign pledge four years ago to bring balance to the federal courts.”

ACB was confirmed along party lines in the Senate by a 52-48 vote.  ACB, who will replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, is the 115th justice of the Supreme Court.

Gun prohibitionists, meanwhile, were outraged that president Trump nominated ACB before the upcoming presidential election.

“We deserve leaders who will work as hard to protect us as Senate Republicans worked to rush this nomination through before November 3,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Fortunately, Americans are paying attention. Our grassroots army of volunteers is working day and night to replace this Senate majority, send Donald Trump packing and give Joe Biden a mandate to pass the common-sense gun laws that Republicans refused to.”

John Feinblatt, President of Everytown for Gun Safety added, “In confirming Judge Barrett, Senate Republicans also confirmed that they’re more worried about keeping the gun lobby happy than keeping Americans safe. Now it’s the people’s turn to vote, and Senate Republicans will soon learn there’s a steep political price to be paid for ignoring America’s gun violence crisis.”

Anti-gunners worked hard to block Barrett’s nomination.  Because they believe she will interpret the 2A as the founders and framers of the Constitution intended, by upholding the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right not contingent upon militia service.

Many fear that various gun-control laws including bans on black rifles, may-issue concealed carry standards, background checks on private transfers, among others, will be on the chopping block in the coming years as the high court will now have a 6-3 conservative-leaning majority.

Put quite simply, the modern gun-control movement is in serious jeopardy.  Bloomberg’s billions may no longer matter.

Because Bloomberg can keep spending tens of millions of dollars on advocacy groups (Everytown, Moms Demand) and politicians (Schumer, Pelosi, Feinstein, etc.) and anti-gun publications (The Trace) but once the Supreme Court rules, for example, that bans on so-called “assault weapons” are unconstitutional it’ll be the law of the land and all states will have to comply.

At that point, it won’t matter how many community organizers and “gun sense” candidates and left-wing journalists the oligarch has in his back pocket. The nine justices on the bench have the final say.

The only threat to this new pro-gun SCOTUS is Joe Biden.  If elected, he may pack the court with anti-gun justices and turn the tide.  Biden has already suggested that he would consider reforming the courts because they are out of “whack.”

“If elected, what I will do is I’ll put together a national commission, a bipartisan commission of scholars, constitutional scholars, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives,” Biden told 60 Minutes in a recent interview. “I will ask them to, over 180 days, come back to me with recommendations as to how to reform the court system because it’s getting out of whack.”

Something to remember next week when we head to the polls.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett can’t have it both ways.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett dissent in Barr v Kanter (2019) Second Amendment argument acquiesced to 42 references to “person/s, of which 13 characterize either a gun or firearm. Her Second Amendment, “textualism” approach having zero reference to “person/s. Justice Barrett’s view only recognizes “person/s” in Barr, as well in her many other 7th circuit rulings. It is her refusal to acknowledge, recognize or connect the U.S. Constitution benchmark legislative interpretive precept language of “person/s,” referenced in our Constitution 49 times, to the Second Amendment.

Leaving Supreme Court Justice Barrett’s judgment in question.

Personally, I’d prefer people have healthcare and women get to control what happens with their bodies, but hey, we’ll get to keep our guns…yay.

Waaaaah! Anti-gunners say: “If we don’t get our way, we’ll put enough “progressive” justices on the court so we get our way.” That’s ONE reason not to elect “progressives” (actually REGRESSIVES). The Second Amendment was written to deal with this type of “government” that is essentially totalitarian. They want the USA to be like Commiefornia where they have a one party rule. Unless conservatives get enough votes to be one of the top two candidates for a position, they don’t even get on the ballot. EVERYONE needs to get out and vote for EVERYONE with an “R” after their name. VOTE THE “D” PEOPLE OUT OF OFFICE. Failure to do so will cause us to lose our country. We will become the next Venezuela, or Cuba, or Russia, or China, or North Korea, or what ever totalitarian regime there is.

Roberts is a liberal probably wears panties under those robes!

  • Altoids October 30, 2020, 9:16 am

Agree fully with the above comments on Roberts.

  • Hendrik Joseph Haan October 30, 2020, 8:46 am

The best thing about ACB on SCOTUS is that Roberts has been rendered insignificant. If the conservatives win a judgment and Roberts sides with the liberals, Clarence Thomas decides who writes the opinion for both sides. That’s because the winning side’s senior justice, Thomas decides who writes their opinion. Roberts cannot decide who writes the minority opinion because he’s on the losing side. Then the next senior justice decides who writes the minority opinion. That would be Clarence Thomas! Isn’t America becoming great again? He was right!

  • Loren Watts October 30, 2020, 8:03 am

Foolish article has 6-3 for conservative judges on SCOTUS. Roberts is a left wing hack like the other 3 commies on the bench.

  • Nick October 30, 2020, 7:00 am

It isn’t 6-3. Roberts is very liberal and wrong, often. It is 5-4, arguably.

  • Ricardo Riostirado October 30, 2020, 6:21 am

We should not get too excited, we have been disappointed by the rulings that some supreme court’s judges have done .
