Holder on Gun Control Reform: ‘Gun Lobby Simply Won’

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors S.H. Blannelberry This Week

In an interview with MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry on Sunday, Attorney General Eric Holder spoke once again about the failure to bring about tougher gun laws in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

“The gun lobby simply won, you know?” told Harris-Perry. She then went on to ask the Holder on whether we are a “nation of cowards” when it comes to gun-control reform.

“I don’t think we are a nation of cowards,” said Holder. “But I think that members of Congress need to have a little more backbone and stand up to what is a distinct minority even within, for instance, the N.R.A., and do the kinds of reasonable things that the American people simply want to have happen.”

After serving as the nation’s top law dog for six years, Holder is on his way out the door. He is stepping down. His probable replacement, Loretta Lynch, should be approve by the Senate to take over in March.

What are your thoughts on Holder and his departure?

He’s going back to life as a private citizen . He should be going to prison. This man, and many around him, is a criminal. Fast and furious. Operation choke point . Just a few of his gems.

Whether Holder or any other Democratic appointee, things will continue down the same path of Democrats vs Republicans digging in. As for gun legislation, there is a good historical reason for the political divide:
Many years ago, seems like Republicans and Democrats together passed a lot of gun legislation – regulations – before the NRA gained momentum in the political arena and stepped in. The “well intentioned” gun legislation was always presented as good for public safety, to get guns out of the hands of criminals, and in good faith of the 2nd Amendment. Slowly, the Democrats came to prove two things: gun elimination was their doctrine, and any gun laws they promoted was indeed only a charade to ultimately do away with gun ownership. Basically Democrats have lied each time they say this is just one last thing. So any surprise that the NRA and most Republicans no longer wants to give an inch? Who’s fault is it? Who started the lies? Who continues the lies?

No. His single biggest failure was his lack of integrity. He has instead caused the panic that has sent every new gun purchase, every box of ammunition flying off the shelves of every gun store.
