The House Judiciary Committee advanced three anti-gun bills this week to the delight of the gun prohibition lobby.

“The U.S. House understands that another day without stronger gun laws means another day of preventable tragedies,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun-control organization funded by former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“Now it’s time for the Senate to do its job and pass meaningful gun safety laws — because the American people aren’t going to settle for weak, watered down half-measures,” added Feinblatt.

The bills headed to the House floor include:

  • H.R. 1236, known as the “Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019,” is a Red Flag bill that simultaneously encourages more states to adopt a gun-seizure process while establishing one at the federal level.  Per the language, authorities and family members would be able to petition a court to confiscate firearms from a person accused (not adjudicated, nor convicted) of being a threat to himself/herself or others.
  • H.R. 2708, known as the “Disarm Hate Act,” the bill would permanently revoke 2A rights for anyone convicted of a hate crime.  That includes misdemeanor offenses.
  • H.R. 1186, known as the “Keep Americans Safe Act,” would criminalize the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices (LCAFD) aka magazines with a capacity exceeding 10 rounds.  While there is a grandfather clause for current mags in circulation, owners would be banned from selling or transferring them to friends, family, children, grandchildren, etc.  Federal funds would be made available under a “buy-back program” to compensate individuals who surrender their mags to the government.

Even though the legislation was passed along party lines, Democrats and gun-control activists hope that it will spark similar action in the GOP-controlled Senate.

“In the past week, we’ve seen everyone from members of the House of Representatives, to Walmart executives and the Lt. Gov of Texas lead on gun safety,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “It’s time for Majority Leader McConnell to lead, too.”

However, McConnell (R-KY) was quick to dampen expectations, saying that a bipartisan group of lawmakers are “working on coming up with a proposal that the president will sign. Until that happens, all of this is theatrics,” according to The Hill.

“So we do in fact await word from the White House about what the president is willing to sign. That’s important to a lot of my members. It also, at the risk of repeating a history lesson, is the only way we will get a law,” McConnell added.

Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, told GunsAmerica via email that this anti-gun legislative push is bound to backfire.

“So far all Democrats have accomplished with their gun prohibition agenda is increase gun sales by 15% over the last month. This happens every time they introduce or pass new restrictions. They just don’t get it,” said Gottlieb.

“Their attack on Second Amendment rights is really going to increase gun owner voter turnout in the 2020 elections,” he continued.  “The more extreme they get with their bans and restrictions the more they telegraph that they have no respect for our Constitutional Second Amendment rights.”

Looking ahead, it’s all eyes on Trump.  What, if anything, will his administration put forward now that Congress is back from its six-week summer recess?

“Red flag laws” are unconstitutional. Taking rights away for misdemeanors, also unconstitutional. Magazine capacity limits, also unconstitutional. People’s right to keep and bear arms, shall not be INFRINGED! Remember that WE are the MILITIA! As per the 2nd amendment, we all are currently under armed! The members of congress all swore oath to defend the constitution, currently proposed legislation in the house of representatives, if passed, will give the DHS,FBI,&DOJ the names of all of the congressmen &women who have just committed Treason! The American citizens want them all to be immediately arrested, charged, tried, convicted, and punished, according to the constitution! It is time for Attorney General Barr to get it done!

My previous comment should have said the average American thinks you can buy fully automatic weapons anytime without an ffl. Most people don’t know the difference between semi automatic and full automatic. They need to be educated

    • jrkmt1 September 15, 2019, 3:52 am

A private individual does not need an FFL in order to purchase fully automatic firearms.
What one does need to do is fill out and submit to the ATF a Form 4, a passport sized photo, and a check or money order for $200. Once you pass an ATF conducted background check that takes about a year, you receive a tax stamp (the $200) that stays with the firearm for as long as you own it.
The only person required to have a Class III Federal Firearms License is the dealer who makes or brokers the sale.

I have a better idea. How about a law that prevents a lawmaker from introducing a law that violates constitutional rights however so slight?
    Or…
Make it illegal to even mention anything that is negative or contrary to constitutional rights? No opinion would be allowed unless it fully supports the constitutional right it speaks of. So, suppression of certain speech would be an arrested offense. Whats that? The first amendment secures your protection to voice an opinion on something? So what? If they can arbitrarily pick at the ones we like, we should do the some to them. Welcome to Dictatorsville. Where only one persons thinking matters.
    Or…
How about liberals start raising their kids to grow up like responsible adults again so they behave like the generations before them that didn’t create all these problems. Talk about Generation Excuse and Blame Something Else.

  • Burt September 13, 2019, 2:13 pm

The buy back provision is quite clever, as it avoids the “takings” clause in the constitution.

  • Burt September 13, 2019, 2:09 pm

You can buy full auto machine guns in over 40 states. It does get a little spendy though.

    • RICK September 15, 2019, 3:49 pm

Sure, if you can afford to spend 10’s of thousands of dollars. Then you’ll have to find someone willing to sell their rare machine gun. There haven’t been any machine guns produced for sale to the public since 1989.

just think of how those CEOs of the various companies would react if, as is said there are 50-60 million gun owners in the US, we all wrote to their web sites that we and everyone we can talk to will not be using their products if they continue their anti American, anti Constitution, anti Bill of Rights restrictions on our rights.

  • bill September 13, 2019, 1:22 pm

if you think washington DCs’ socialists …er democrats are bad just take a look at the demented anti american, anti constitution, anti bill of rights traitorous democrats running the late great state of Kalifornexico.

  • Shan September 13, 2019, 12:59 pm

Already tried in California and even our courts said it was unconstitutional. Still being hashed out. Joke.

  • D.J. September 13, 2019, 12:47 pm

What part of ” Support , protect and defend the Constitution
of the United States of America ” , do these subversives not
    understand ?
    Is this not treasonist ?
Why are there not charges brought forth ?
This is totally unacceptable behavior in our Nation, and it needs
to stop , presently . Those whom indulge in this behavior need to
be held accountable for it .
Washington is the problem , and is in no way the solution .

  • Zupglick September 13, 2019, 11:59 am

All three of the above “Laws” are time and money wasters. None will make it past SCOTUS. Only make lawyers richer.

  • KEN September 13, 2019, 11:44 am

Let’s start with the “buy back”. I think the college education the dems have must have been bought back, because they have a lower iq then the day they were conceived! Now only if we could buy back their conception from the parents America would be safer for us. Sounds like the dems are backing the Taliban and ISIS and found it’s not working for their social terrorist in America. Don’t poke fun at the rednecks, because we are the last line of defense. Pack us up and send us over and we will eradicate useless the humans! If there will ever any peace in the east God help us all!

  • 2A September 13, 2019, 11:38 am

We need to talk about and educate everyone about weapons. Most people still think you can buy automatic weapons. They have been brainwashed by media. We need to somehow educate people with the media also. There are enough laws on the books now about firearms, they just need to be enforced. 2A speak up , shout out against the propaganda the media is indoctrinating us with !!!

Mr. Trump is not famous enough for acting like he supports a point of view before pulling the rug out from under it. I don’t know if that will apply here, but it does mean wait until the finished product is on his desk with his famous bold, undecipherable signature before thinking you know what he will do.

  • Dr. Strangelove September 13, 2019, 9:41 am

If Tromp signs any anti-gun bills, voters already unhappy with the bump stock ban will stay home in droves.

    • Godfrey Daniel September 13, 2019, 10:51 am

He may be the lesser of two evils.

  • Frankie Ammo September 13, 2019, 8:58 am

Only three repressive bills? Must have been a slow session.

  • joefoam September 13, 2019, 8:46 am

Just love the names they associate with their bills to make it look like if you opposed them you were a mentally deficient hater and intent on killing as many people as possible. Propaganda requires precise wording to have an effect on the low brow voter.

  • KCsmith September 13, 2019, 8:19 am

Left wing nut jobs are such predictably stupid people.
The more extreme they get, the more likely they are to loose.
Somehow, everyone knows this but them.

    Keep it up, guys!

  • Dr Motown September 13, 2019, 7:50 am

The 2A supporter and law abiding citizens who open carry at Walmart are the LEAST likely to do you harm….IDIOTS now run corporate America

  • Big Jim September 13, 2019, 7:32 am

“The more extreme they get with their bans and restrictions the more they telegraph that they have no respect for our Constitutional Second Amendment rights.”
They are way past that, they don’t even want you to be able to have a steak on the grill over the weekend.
They have had one too many Koolaid’s.

  • Alan108 September 13, 2019, 7:29 am

So I have seen two different versions of the mag ban bill but neither article has printed the actual text. This version says capacity exceeding 10 rounds, the other said mags that hold more than 9 rounds. What we need is manufacturers to start molding .50 Beowolf, capacity 10 rounds into all the AR mags.

  • Gary September 13, 2019, 7:25 am

    Guns? What guns?

    • Godfrey Daniel September 13, 2019, 10:51 am

I may be looking into the purchase of several waterproof containers and a shovel.

      • Christopher C Chastain September 13, 2019, 6:11 pm

8″ PVC pipe with solid cap on one end and screw cap on the other 1 foot deep trench and resod.

Better to bury the tube vertically as that renders less of a signature if a metal is used to find buried “contraband”. Scattering old nuts and bolts or other metallic objects in the area aid in covering the signature of what you don’t want found.

          • Sister Ray September 16, 2019, 12:27 pm

Bury guns? If you think it’s time to bury guns, it’s already time to dig them up!!

  • Robert Lucas September 13, 2019, 6:18 am

Criminal Oath Breakers, cannot go against their own criminal activity yet alone define who the real criminals are. Social/Democrats = Communists First they tell you what you can and cannot have, then take everything else that you have worked and saved for. This method was tried and failed 75 years ago.
If this is what upper education has provided in the last 50 years, we better find something better to survive ourselfs…

  • Jay September 13, 2019, 6:11 am

The Communist are hard at work I see, Hitler, Mao, Stalin would be proud!

  • Paul Maslowski September 12, 2019, 8:55 pm

There’s NOTHING more terrifying than ignorance in action…
Anybody with 2 oz. of COMMON SENSE knows that a law defines a criminal act, it does nothing to prevent it.
The next time you chat with your representatives, ask them “Please tell me what law, ANY LAW, that has ever prevented anything from happening?”
Has anyone else ever noticed that NONE of the people quacking about gun laws or bans has ever muttered a word about controlling the perpetrator?
If these people were so smart or powerful, why haven’t they come up with the do-all-to-end-all solution?
JUST WRITE ONE LAW THAT BANS CRIME…ALL CRIME!
    Duh….simple!!!

    • The SGM September 13, 2019, 7:00 am

Laws like locks tend to keep honest people honest, but people with criminal tendencies/goals will find a way to brake the law.
