The ATF has arrested three suspects in a fast, coordinated burglary at a Houston gun store that emptied a wall of rifles and a display case of guns. Police report as many as 10 people were part of the crew.
According to local news sources, many of the guns have already been recovered, but that authorities have not shared how many, and the total number of stolen guns is still unknown. The crew stole more guns than they could carry, dropping firearms on the floor as they made their way out.
The local police and the ATF estimate that as many as seven or more thieves remain at large, and that they got away with at least 50 firearms. The crew worked quickly to carry out as many firearms as possible before the police could respond.
The store was burglarized in the early morning. The crew chained the shop’s burglary bars to a truck to pull them down. The entire heist took about two minutes.

Surveillance video shows the crew working quickly, with a choreographed plan that focused on specific parts of the shop. Everyone involved wore concealing clothes and masks throughout the burglary.
They first smashed open the windows, pulled out the door then charged straight for the firearms. They used hammers to break open the main windows and display cases. After the initial escape, the crew swapped vehicles, leaving the crime truck about a block from the scene.
“It takes a lot of nerve to do that,” said Jerry Wilson, who works next door, to ABC News.
Police are still searching for the remaining suspects and have asked that anyone with knowledge about the break-in step up and contact the Houston Crime Stoppers. Just as it the responsibility of an individual gun owner to secure his/her weapons so it is the responsibility of the gun dealer.
Ultimately nothing will stop a motivated thief 100% of the time, but a store front with cameras, large but barred windows and a cheese dick security gate on a glass door is just plain half assed. Would you leave you firearm on the front seat of your car just because you had the windows rolled up, the doors locked and your alarm activated, NO. But it is secure right? REALLY?
I could not live with myself knowing that I had that many, or any stolen firearms for that matter out on the street in the wrong hands. At least one if not more of these guns will kill or wound someone. Every time that happens our 2nd Amendment rights become less of a right and more likely to be infringed upon.
We as gun owners need to do more than just the normal status quo when it comes to firearm security and safety. We have a profound responsibility to ourselves as legal gun owners as well as to the rest of society. These “smash and grab” thefts are just one more reason for the liberal anti gun Nazi’s to limit personal gun ownership and push for further gun control laws.
They fixed the firearm security and safety issues in the UK pretty well by confiscation and limitation. Do we really need to give the limp dick liberals any more of a reason?

In Albuquerque alone, for DECADES the Albuquerque P.D. Evidence Room was LOOTED out of between $75,000- $250,000 in cash; plus jewelry, gold coins; GUNS; drugs; and even Evidence against police officers in local pending cases. Requiring gun dealers to keep an inventory, requiring them to make a good-faith effort at reporting thefts, and inspecting them more often would be a good start. It’s nice that they reported this one and caught some of the thieves, but like the poster talking about thefts from guard armories, too many go unreported.
Federal law already requires FFLs to keep detailed inventory lists. Common sense and insurance companies require FFLs to make a good faith effort to report stolen firearms. More frequent inspections is the only one of your suggestions that isn’t already fact. Since the ATF is only empowered to inspect FFLs and NOT the US military your post seems rather pointless.
By Federal Law dealers have to keep a detailed inventory and they have to report any and all thefts immediately. Some, but not all, states require citizens to do the same. As far as the military, I don’t know their reporting requirements.
Pretty simple, full serial number inventory when the arms room opens, and full inventory before it closes, with recorded signatures to the fact that the inventory was completed.

Every state needs to adress gun theft, You steal a gun or guns you should be charged with attempted murder , why else would you steal a gun, and the plus 5 minimum years in that cage.
If someone is murdered by a firearms you stole , would not matter if you pulled the trigger or not, you should be charged with capitol murder.
