JPFO: Media Promote Spree-Murder Contagion Again, Senseless Reports Contain Little News

This is the right time to remember JPFO’s “Don’t Inspire Evil” Initiative.

News outlets that feature and name mass murderers border on criminality. They don’t advance news — they encourage copycats. Reporters, editors, and producers know this, they’ve seen it, they’ve been warned by police, doctors and their own watchdog agencies, plus the criminals themselves tell them so. “But it increases our audience and revenues!” they cry (or silently admit).

“In the first 90 seconds on any news channel you’ll get all the news you’re going to get,” said Alan Korwin, an author and consultant to JPFO. “Where it happened, how many dead and injured, what was used, and pointless speculation on why, which is unknown. After that it’s just lurid and morbid repetition, endless background “B-roll” image loops and talking heads, with armored police and hypnotic flashing lights,” Korwin notes. “The media knows it, viewers know it, and crazed criminals waiting to act know it. It encourages them and they tell us so, but media continues the cycle of blood and headlines anyway.”

“Do not gratuitously and repetitiously portray mass murderers’ names and images,” JPFO insists. But news outlets relish the chance to sink to the lowest sensational interest. Displaying names and images of the most heinous mass murderers on page one motivates those psychopaths. Conferring fame on murderers is not “news,” it is a corrupt financial misuse of the public trust and exactly what the murderers seek. Mass media outlets profiting from mass murder deserve scorn, boycotts and open recognition for incentivizing copycat murder and societal decay.

Police know the media encourage criminals and police vehemently oppose this. Medical and psychological authorities recognize the effects and publish professional papers denouncing the practice. The public sees it, has abandoned the so-called “news” in droves and lost faith in legacy media. Meanwhile, mass-media personnel laugh it off, vilify the right to arms, conflate murder with shooting–a righteous tradition and fine American sport that’s bigger than golf–then drink at their elite award dinners, rake in cash from useful idiots, and feign ignorance as audiences shrink, credibility evaporates and the public is revulsed.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership calls upon the Fourth Estate to wake up to their self-evident complicity in mass murder. Stop publicizing the names, faces and spiels of heinous criminals. Ask political candidates if they have any programs for teaching the public about their right to arms, the proper use of firearms, or the role guns play and have always played in the preservation of peace and freedom. How is it this never gets ink? JPFO has noticed you do not cover the subject, as if it was a new electrified third rail in politics. What are you afraid of–have you been told to censor yourselves?

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownershiphttp://www.jpfo.org is America’s most aggressive civil-rights organization, dedicated to destroying the notion of “gun control” as any kind of credible public-policy position. So-called “gun control” does not control guns and doesn’t control criminal behavior. What it does do is disarm the innocent, leaving them helpless in the face of criminals, tyrannical governments and genocide. History repeatedly proves this fact. Founded in 1989 by Aaron Zelman as a response to the Holocaust, JPFO speaks with the moral authority and tenacious commitment of survivors of persecution, and knows that surrendering your personal and family safety to government protection courts disaster. “You don’t have to be Jewish to fight by our side, you just have to love liberty.”

About the author: Alan Korwin is an American writer, author and civil- and political-rights activist whose work serves the business, legal, news and firearms industries. In 1988, Korwin founded Bloomfield Press, which has grown into the largest publisher and distributor of gun-law books in the nation

This type of reporting assures the shooter that he/she will become famous assisting the shooter that what he/she is about to do is worthwhile.

I joined JPFO and GOA a few weeks ago.

Ever notice that when they are reporting the number murdered, it usually includes the murderer? How messed up is that? I know of no other crime where this is the case.

I have said this to many people time and again. It’s amazing how the media escapes any responsibility for this. The quickest way for an angry loser to go from being a nobody to a somebody (overnight), is to kill a bunch of people randomly. The media is an accomplice in this regard. Perform a national experiment and have a 3 year moratorium on reporting the name and image of any perpetrator responsible for a mass shooting. I’m certain that the frequency and severity of these incidents will diminish if not disappear completely with time.

Well stated and couldn’t agree more. Stop glorifying mass killers and start educating the public on the good aspects of gun ownership and responsibility for one’s actions. Our problem as a society is that nobody is held accountable for anything, and it starts with Kindergarten and youth sports where everyone is a winner and nobody can do wrong.

Are you kidding? Lurid stories sell air time and ad space. The MSM will wring every cent out of these stories until they can incite another then the cycle repeats They could give a hoot about public safety.
