A Kansas City woman decided earlier this week that she’d had enough of the AR-15 she’s been storing in her home for a friend, so she decided to purchase it and then destroy it.
“I don’t even like touching this thing. It’s upsetting to me,” Sandy Skaggs told KMBC News 9, gingerly holding what she called a “killing machine.”
She told the outlet that the recent mass murders in Dayton and El Paso motivated her to buy and destroy the weapon.
“I do not want this gun. I want to destroy this gun,” Skaggs clarified.
She contacted local police to ask about the proper way to destroy the rifle or request that they do it, telling law enforcement that she does not want it used for parts. She’s willing to do anything to render the weapon inoperable, even “pouring acid down the barrel to destroy the mechanism inside,” according to KMBC’s Michael Mahoney.
“I’m not opposed to hunting. I’m not opposed to hunters. I’m not opposed to people having guns in their possession for protection. But this is a killer. It’s a killing machine, and that’s all it’s for,” she said.

When Mahoney pointed out that AR-15s are legal to own and that many hunters use them due to their accuracy and versatility, Skaggs stood her ground.
“That’s right. They are. And I’m entitled to purchase and destroy it,” Skaggs said.
Skaggs joins a long and noble line of virtue signalers garnering local media attention for their brave decision to destroy semi-automatic rifles.

- In 2017, a California gun owner destroyed his AR-15 with a sledgehammer and encouraged other gun owners to do the same. “It makes me feel like I’ve been a small man to think that I needed one of these,” said Chad Vachter with local media cameras rolling. “The other night, when I read the thing about the school in Northern California, I cried and I haven’t felt good since, and although I’m still sad for all the people and all the victims affected, I feel like I’ve done the only thing that I can do in this equation.”
- In 2018, a Virginia congressional candidate came under ATF scrutiny when she sawed off the barrel of an AR-15 and posted the video to social media. “After last week, I told [my husband] that I wanted this gun outta my house! To those students in Florida, and across our country, keep standing up, and speaking truth to power! These gun owners heard you and we’re going to stand by you!” Karen Mallard said in the video.

The story left out all of the details of the killings of the AR 15 while stored at her house. It also left out a} why was it being stored at her house and b} if she did legally buy it. It’s not a “loophole” if there’s no law or rule against it. There is nothing that makes the private transfer of a firearm without a background check illegal unless you live in such a state. Even then it’s not a loophole. You’re just violating an arbitrary law that infringes on your natural human rights.

Back in the late 80’s I had to sell my guns. My decision. My wife then told me she never complained about me having them but If I ever buy a gun again she would leave. 2 1/2 decades later, after Sandy Hook, I bought guns again including an AR.

A private sale of a firearm in many states (to include the one she lives in) does not require a background check or registration or transfer, provided the firearm is not an NFA controlled item.
