The Kel-Tec KS7 is the Ultimate Bullpup Shotgun – SHOT Show 2019

Riley Baxter SHOT Show 2019

At range day, Kel-Tec drew quite the crowd with their new guns. Of the new ones, the KS7 was one of the most popular. This variant of the KSG is basically the same bullpup shotgun that we love, but with a single magazine tube and a carry handle/sight. I had the opportunity to shoot the KS7 at the range and I can testify that it is as awesome as you would hope. This shotgun has a great trigger, smooth action and comes up naturally to the shoulder with the proper sight picture. Also, because the chamber of the gun is further back toward the shoulder, this gun has less vertical recoil when firing.

The Kel-Tec KS7 is the Ultimate Bullpup Shotgun - SHOT Show 2019

The KS7 is one of the lightest bullpup shotguns out there, not to mention its probably the best looking.

The KS7 was designed for people who want to use this bullpup shotgun in rough environments where carrying that extra weight of the KSG would be detrimental. Coming in only at 5.9 pounds unloaded, this shotgun can be carried in areas where people may be worried about bear attacks, or just for a small and lightweight hunting shotgun in general. And of course, it can be used for home defense as the ultimate weapon.

The fiber optic sight on the KS7 is bright and easily located after throwing the gun up to shoot.

This time tested and proven bullpup design has an 18.5-inch barrel and a tiny 26.1-inch overall length. The KS7 also features M-LOK slots on the carry handle, stock, and forend. This gun also features an ambidextrous safety and slide lock release. In true Kel-Tec bullpup shotgun fashion, this gun also ejects shells downward, keeping casings out of the face of both right and left-handed shooters.

The business end of the KS7.

After using the gun and learning about its features, the KS7 is definitely a shotgun that I would like to have for various applications. The best thing about the KS7 is that I can easily justify the cost which is only $495 MSRP.

The Kel-Tec KS7 is the Ultimate Bullpup Shotgun - SHOT Show 2019

Unlike the KSG, the KS7 is very slim and only has one magazine tube to load, making the gun lightweight.

Where is the pink .410 version of this gun?

Every Gunny High School girl, and mom in the country would want one!

Great job Kel Tec, almost perfect except we need a shell guide that allows quick funnel reloads into the magazine without looking to see everything. Should be able to load, rack the slide, shoot without taking eyes off the target.

A very slim, compact light weight 8 shooter 12ga such as this is hard to beat..

    It’s settled in my mind!

The KGS7, and KGS25 will compliment my gun safe nicely.

    • SpeedBump December 29, 2019, 2:33 pm

      Errr, KS7.
      Yea, that thingy.

  • Dave February 3, 2019, 5:41 pm

I like it. I will hold my opinion until after a unbiased evaluation is done on youtube. Preferably from Hickok45.

  • EddiE February 1, 2019, 11:46 pm

Damn, there are a lot of bitter armchair gun guys commenting…

Maybe when you meant that it was a ‘hunting’ shotgun, you didn’t mention the longer barrel option?

  • Russ Watson February 1, 2019, 7:58 am

Nice concept but….I shoot a lot of 12g self defense classes – 300 rounds in a class is likely average. Only two guns, Rem 870P & Mossberg 590 seem to survive even one class, let alone a few. I find it unlikely this is any different and at under 6lb slugs would downright wallop you! That said, if it can handle a hundred rounds to break it in and train a bit maybe the weight & size will meet some needs. It will be interesting to see one in a class.

Why do people that support the second ammendment talk crap about gun manufacturers making guns for anyone other than them? We’re in this together. Hunt with what you have. Protect yourself with what you have. Who cares if you don’t like it… don’t read about it and don’t like it. We have the right to keep and bear arms… right? Not the right to keep and bear arms that you like or find appropriate. I find a lot of things appropriate that you may not, and vice versa. It’s ok.

    • Gary N. Martin October 21, 2019, 9:13 am

Well said Kevin Fisher! Fellow gun lovers and users, Why don’t you consider positive comments in your assessments rather than straight up negativity. The bashing comments by gun of manufacturers or fellow gunners seems to show your basic insecurity of what you may have or don’t have. No one is challenging your choice of Firearms nor asking you to take a superior attitude. Let’s support one another.

    Meh.

  • David Hoevel January 31, 2019, 8:38 pm

Jeffrey thanks for providing a thoughtful comment about the product described, backed up by specific experience…… Here are some good examples: I own a p32, p3at, sub 2000, PMR30, & a cmr 30. They all shoot and run perfect. I like the looks of this new bulpup. I did not like the feel of the original with the double mag tubes. Might have to try one.

  • Brian Onuscheck January 31, 2019, 6:33 pm

    Definitely NOT a hunting shotgun.

  • Scotty Gunn January 31, 2019, 6:18 pm

To each their own. If the price point was lower, I’d consider it. Don’t like to spend that kind of cash on stuff held together with Phillips screws.

  • duckncover January 31, 2019, 2:58 pm

I`m an R S O at my range and I see these type of guns all the time…..when you see one , you`ve seen em…no big deal…people blast off a tube or two at the dirt, at broken or missed clays lying in the dirt, then pick up their normal shotguns and start to blow away flying clays and really begin to smile….. ho – hum… boring, unless in the home for defense….not boring… I bought a brand new Mossberg 20 ga. that’s every bit as great a home defense weapon as this guy at one quarter the cost…..go figure……..

    • SS January 6, 2021, 2:38 am

Wait … you bought a brand-new Moss 20 for only $125? Where, pray tell??? I’ll get in line….

  • Dennis January 31, 2019, 1:33 pm

It must be a terrible burden to be so much smarter that everyone else and know what every person needs!

  • Mike in a Truck January 31, 2019, 1:06 pm

Well lets not be to harsh here boys. Its an odd duck alright but it may just be the thing in a truck or bush plane, even a boat.I hear piracy is rearing up again because of the situation in Venezuela. And the 2nd Amendment? Its about killing tyrants.Whats it matter what you use to dispatch them with?

  • MAL January 31, 2019, 12:05 pm

KS7 is the tipping point. Light. Compact. And it looks to be truly ambidextrous. Coming soon, The Ambidextral Stage Coach Guard.

    Kel-Tec?

    Still prefer my PF9
    Still love my SU16C
    RDB is excellent ambi bullpup

When I need mountain bike or ground mobile tools, Kel-Tec routinely gets the nod.

  • Mago January 31, 2019, 11:55 am

Not light enough. Any shotgun billed as lightweight should be less than 12g any way. Give me a 3 pound 20g bullpup with invector plus chokes for 500$ and I’ll buy two.

  • FirstStateMark January 31, 2019, 10:57 am

You know gun manufacturers have run out of ideas when you see this kind of shit.

  • Heavy10mm January 31, 2019, 10:47 am

I can just picture the people commenting on this gun here, frothing at the mouth with hatred as they type. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. There’s nothing wrong with it, other than the fact it’s a Kel-Tec

    • Riley Baxter January 31, 2019, 11:43 pm

lol it’s so refreshing to read comments like this. Thank you.

  • James W. , III Mangham January 31, 2019, 10:12 am

It is this type of crap which harms definitions of what the 2nd amendment includes.

    • Michael January 31, 2019, 3:40 pm

Really? Why is this “crap” and what about it supposedly harms whatever you think the 2AD includes?

      It’s a pump shotgun. It’s a 21st century interpretation of a 19th century mechanical device.

I’d really like to know your reasoning for a comment like this.

      • Riley Baxter January 31, 2019, 11:43 pm

i’d like to bet that you won’t see his reasoning because it is nonexistent. Just quick to “speak”.

  • Area 52 January 31, 2019, 9:45 am

The real main difference between this and the KSG is the amount of magazines on the weapon. Did Kel Tec create this because that is what their fan boys wanted, or was this created to stay head of the game in the event the KSG gets banned by a future “assault weapons ban”?

  • Sean January 31, 2019, 9:22 am

C’mon now… how do you get off calling it a hunting gun. Theres no mention of interchangeable chokes, so any bird action is limited. For the same price you can get a mossberg 500 with an 18″ and 28″ barrels with an accu choke setup on the 28″. That is a hunting/home defender shotgun. These gimmick guns are the millennial byproduct of too much sci fi. And it’s only getting worse.

  • Cary Kieffer January 31, 2019, 8:40 am

I tend to like Keltecs innovative ideas and own several of their guns. RFB 308, Pf9 x’s 2, pmr 30, cmr 30, p11 and the little 32, I forget what it’s called. Here I think they should have left the HK G36 looking handle off the top. It would have been more compact. Also I dont see a rail for a forward verticle grip. Due to a shoulder injury it’s the only way I can run a pump. I always thought I’d see a semi auto from them…maybe someday. I think this will be popular seller, the tube selector thingy in the double tube model always seemed cheap and weak to me. It’s why I never bought one. Overall though this looks pretty decent. With Keltec you usually have to tinker a bit but if you can’t tune a keltec up yourself, they will. Never had a problem with KT customer service. And that means a lot.

    BAHAHAHA
