KelTec is known to produce great products for reasonable prices, thanks to their extensive use of polymers and streamlined production methods. New for 2020, is the P17. Chambered for .22 Long Rifle, it is a semi-auto, polymer-framed pistol that has a $199.00 MSRP!
Don’t let the tiny little MSRP fool you though, the P17 has a lot of features that many more expensive handguns don’t even come with. For example, the P17 has a fiber optic front sight, threaded barrel adapter (1/2×28), cocking indicator, a 3-pound trigger, and an extremely easy takedown system.
We shot the P17 at the range and it functioned flawlessly. On top of that, the trigger surprised us, pleasantly so. It was crisp with no creep, due to the P17’s internal hammer-fired design.
The other thing that we liked about this handgun is its size. It is thin and compact, but not so small that it is difficult to get your hands around. There is more than enough real estate to get a comfortable shooting grip, yet small enough that you could stow it away easily if you wanted.
The P17 has ambidextrous controls: the thumb-operated safety, trigger guard mag release and takedown levers are located on both sides of the gun. All of you lefties out there… they thought of you! This handgun also comes with three magazines that will carry 16 rounds.
Right now, the P17 is being shipped out of the KelTec factory at a rate of 200 per week, so expect to see this rimfire pistol on shelves near you soon.
You will likely see them there for around $150.00 and they won’t stay long. The bright side: KelTec expects to up production in the coming weeks to the tune of 2,000 per week.

My little Kel Tec 380 has been running like a top for the last 11 years- after a fluff &buff. I’m sold- I’ll buy two 22LR especially at that price with a threaded barrel. This is an in “your face” to Ruger who’s firearms I love- too much BTW! I cant tell by the pictures but this Kel Tec looks like it dosnt have an extractor? Well neither does my Bobcat. But the Ruger does.Anyway hats off to Kel Tec. All these companies with their overpriced pistols should take note how it’s done.
Nice little plinker you don’t have to worry about putting scratches on. Reviews say you gotta use high-quality high-velocity ammo to cycle reliably, which makes it not-so-cheap after all if you put a whole lot of rounds thru. Well I have a couple of .22 pistols that cost a LOT more than $199 and they prefer the good stuff too. If you want to shoot cheap bulk .22’s and have them work at least most of the time get a wheel gun.
Will they have a 10 round may for this to meet whitehead by regs?
