Kim Kardashian: I’m Not Against Guns… But Misdemeanor Offenders Shouldn’t Have Them

Kim Kardashian: I'm Not Against Guns... But Misdemeanor Offenders Shouldn't Have ThemLast week, Kim Kardashian spouted off on gun control to raise awareness for Everytown for Gun Safety’s Wear Orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

The reality TV star claimed that after being robbed in Paris that she’s “not against guns” because her “security team is armed” but that this country needs more laws to keep certain people from gaining access to firearms, including “anyone convicted of a misdemeanor.”

Kim says a bunch of other stupid stuff in her statement (you can read it below) but I think this really stuck out to me, mainly because her husband Kanye West is a misdemeanor offender.  Yes, he was arrested several times and has at least one misdemeanor conviction for battery in 2014 in which he was required to attend 24 anger management sessions, perform 250 hours of community service and pay restitution to the victim, a photographer named Daniel Ramos.

I wonder if she realizes this, that she’s openly advocating for revocation of her husband’s 2A rights (Though, a Kanye West gun ban may not be such a bad idea.  LOL).  I also wonder if she realizes the wide net she casting because misdemeanor crimes include minor offenses like petty theft, trespassing, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, among others.

Everyone makes mistakes growing up.  The notion that one should lose a fundamental right because of a car accident or a drunken night when he or she was in college or because of an altercation with a pushy paparazzo is crazy.  Put another way, Kim wouldn’t advocate for stripping Kanye’s right to free speech following his battery conviction, so why is it any different with the very tools we need — those of us without armed security — to keep our children safe?

***

Friday, June 2, is national gun violence awareness day and I’ll be wearing orange to show my support for stricter gun control laws in the United States.

It’s been 18 years since Columbine, 10 years since Virginia Tech, four years since since (sic) Newtown and we’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of the Orlando nightclub shooting. In almost 20 years, our country has made very little progress in enacting laws that would help protect innocent Americans from people who should not have access to firearms. Right now, there are more guns owned by civilians in this country than in any other country in the world. In February of this year, President Trump actually signed a bill revoking a regulation recommended by President Obama that would have added 75,000 names of people with registered mental illnesses to a national background check database. This is crazy!

I work with an incredible organization, Everytown, whose mission is to stand in opposition of the NRA’s vision of more guns for more people. There is such a disconnect between what the country needs to protect our people and the laws that are proposed and enacted. We have imposed restrictions on a number of constitutional rights for the sake of protecting people in this country, including freedom of speech and the right to exercise religious beliefs, so why is the Second Amendment any different? Is it more important to protect the Second Amendment than to protect our own children? Maybe you think so, maybe you don’t—but it’s important for us to at least continue to discuss and debate this openly, and to bring attention to the reality of gun violence and gun control.

I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns. After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security. All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.

I hope that we won’t become numbed by the increasing number of gun-related tragedies we see on the news. We all have a voice and a right to feel safe, to be protected from people who are a threat, particularly when handed a deadly weapon. I want to help build a safer future for my children and I believe together we can find ways to do that, while still protecting the rights of the American people.
— Xo Kim

Don’t give airtime to anyone without a real job. That starts with all members of entertainment including actors, actresses and pro kid’s game players. We don’t give a crap what they think! Just go out in that arena and entertain us. Just because you can pretend to be someone you are not, or you get picked first in kids’ sports does NOT make you wise or worthy of attention. I quit going to entertainment venues years ago, and couldn’t be happier about it.

What a stupid cunt u shouldn’t have guns but it’s important for her t have armed security to keep her safe anyone else tired of hearing rich and famous people with armed security telling us we don’t need guns it’s crazy I heard one democrat governor say people like him need security but regular people don’t and if they do that it should be looked in to who do these fucks think they are if they stop fucking with our rites they wouldn’t need the security our taxes pay for

  • John February 21, 2020, 8:41 am

What a wonderful person to have support your cause. Does anyone even listen to or pay attention to the Kartrashians anymore?
What a pathetic rep she is for any group. Why not hook up with honey booboo or other TV trash?

Typical liberal who is incapable of thinking without injecting irrational emotion or understanding of consequences into their thought process. Disqualifying citizens for firearms ownership based on simple misdemeanors would be disastrous. The reporter who refuses a judicial order to give up his confidential sources and is convicted of misdemeanor “contempt of court” or the peaceful political protestor who refuses a police order to disperse and is willingly arrested to make a point and convicted of misdemeanor “disorderly conduct” would be stripped of their 2A rights.

The thought of gun ownership being stripped for the criminal catch-all charge of disorderly conduct is particularly terrifying. In my state, and I suspect others, intent is not even an element of the offense…in other words, you can be charged with this “crime” without the state having to prove that you intended to do anything wrong! EVERY other criminal offense requires intent, but somehow it’s not required for “disorderly conduct”!

Another scary thing is the complete imbalance of justice. In my area, if you are charged with a misdemeanor crime and the city you are in has an ordinance for that violation, the police will normally issue you a city citation, which is nothing more than a ticket for violating city ordinance. You have to be a serious repeat offender for them to issue a “state charge” for the violation, which is a full misdemeanor.

I worked in loss prevention in the City of Milwaukee and most of the people I caught were given city citations for retail theft, some had 5 or 6 city violations, which wouldn’t even show up if their record was checked. However, in one of the suburbs, the smaller city, town, or village didn’t have their own ordinance for retail theft, so the officer had to charge the crime as a state misdemeanor. So the person caught 5 or 6 times in the city for the exact same crime of retail theft would have no misdemeanors on their record, but the person caught just once for the same thing, outside of the city, would have a misdemeanor on their record. A background check that didn’t include the specific city court records would show that the person with 5 or 6 ordinance violations would have a completely clean record!

I was charged with disorderly conduct once. I was convicted and had no way to fight the charge in court because the prosecution did not have to prove any intent whatsoever. Had I been about across the street, about 10 yards to the north, I would have been under the city’s jurisdiction and given a citation for violating the city ordinance for disorderly conduct…I would have no misdemeanor on my record. As it is, since I was under the jurisdiction of a smaller city, I was given a full state charge, booked into jail, and released the next day. Even though I had never been convicted of any other crime at the city, state, or federal level, I had to complete 1 year of probation and lost my right to own firearms for the duration of my probation period, per the court order.

It irks the hell out of me that someone could be convicted of 10 crimes that are technically state misdemeanors, but receive city citations, with a small fine for each, and never see the inside of a jail cell or a court room and be considered a model citizen with a completely clean record as long as their crimes were committed within the larger city’s jurisdiction but another person can commit one instance of the EXACT same crime in a smaller city, town, or village, and they are convicted, booked, jailed, required to bond out, attend court, be entered into the system, be assigned a probation officer, lose the ability to have so much as a sip of beer and their right to possess firearms for a year, until completion of probation period, as well as the conviction being public record and showing up in even the most cursory background check.

Thankfully, if our government was ever foolish enough to strip misdemeanor offenders of their gun rights this kind of disparity of justice would make for one hell of a court case!

I hope a meteor hits her house.

Maybe she should look at real problems, like say how many people are killed by automobiles.
You know… being driven by transvestites…

  • Mike Bolton February 1, 2018, 10:09 am

I hope a meteor hits her house.

  • M.Atkinson June 10, 2017, 10:01 pm

    Stupid ho: ho,ho,ho, LMAO

  • Altoid June 10, 2017, 8:09 am

If the left in this country had their way, no one who has ever had so much as a speeding ticket should ever be allowed to own a firearm. That would disqualify just about everyone.

The instant background check requirement opened up a real can of worms in that the bar for disqualification is constantly being pushed lower and lower. You can be disqualified for life if you get into a drunken fist fight with your brother at your house (misdemeanor domestic violence).

So the precedent for banning one’s 2A rights based only on a misdemeanor has already been set. Now it needs only to be expanded to all misdemeanors and ultimately for traffic infractions and building code violations.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is not for us to descend into the reactive, personally derogatory mire created by opponents of gun rights. We, or at least I, don’t appreciate being clustered into such socio-economic stigmas as “gun totin rednecks.” It is our right and our privilege to uphold our belief in the Constitution that has made this nation so great. We should do so, in a civil fashion, that shows how civil and fluent in the political structure of our great nation those on our side of the Second Amendment fence can present ourselves. We should all be grateful Kim Kardashian is not on our side.

  • Michael Keim June 9, 2017, 4:22 pm

I wonder how she feels about knives.

  • rev_dave June 9, 2017, 4:17 pm

I so want to dissect that op-ed sentence by sentence, but I know it’s an exercise in futility to do so. The woman is so stupid she can’t see the glaring contradictions in her own writing. WHAT can I write that would make a dent in her brain fog? Nothing, I’m sure. Like Forrest’s mama always said: Stupid is as Stupid Does.

Perhaps, a paraphrase of her statement would be appropriate however. “I’m all in favor of people talking, but when someone is so offensively ignorant they should be denied the right to talk at all.”

  • Mike Watkins June 9, 2017, 3:53 pm

Who cares what this media whore thinks about guns? Or anything for that matter?

Well, unfortunately there a bunch of mindless fools in our society who think this brainless twit’s words are worthy of consideration. THERE is a real challenge: bringing up kids who know enough to ignore the “stars” and their vacuous opinions. A lot of us have failed at that, not to mention the millions of parents who have less sense than the average gun owner.

Oh BTW. Not a word of the lengthy quote attributed to KK is likely to be from her own feeble brain. All ghost written by the staff of some gun-ban org. KK is just a tool.

Why give space to the alleged words of a tool?

  • Steve in Detroit June 9, 2017, 1:38 pm

Why is her “Opinion” even in this Publication? Because she comes from a Freak Show Family? Keep her it the Tabloid covers for the idiots to follow. I can tell you this much, the Black Women I know and talk to do not “Value” her opinion, so exactly who is she trying to reach with this “Message”?

  • A.D. Roberts June 9, 2017, 12:38 pm

Kim should keep her mouth shut since it is NOT connected to a brain.
Media should not quote Kim since what she says is stupid.
Now Kim, your ignorance is evident when I point out that running a stop sign is a MISDEMEANOR. LOL
    What a sow.

    • Patrick M Bauman June 9, 2017, 12:56 pm

I totally agree 100% couldn’t have said it better.

  • Woodrat June 9, 2017, 12:11 pm

Who gives two hoots in hell what this fool has to say about anything.

  • Caleb June 9, 2017, 12:02 pm

To the commenters whining about an article written about this woman being in this website: shut up and don’t read the article. Her name is in the headline, for crying out loud!
There’s a whole swath of the media out there that’s also going to write about her statements on gun control, but they agree with her. There’s supposed to be, nay, NEEDS to be a balance. The other side (our side) needs to have a voice, too. Bunch of whiners…

  • JJMJ June 9, 2017, 11:52 am

PLEASE stop making stupid, talentless people famous. Leave this crap to TMZ. Why would you post this article?? No respectable gun owner cares about what she says. I didn’t even read it. Waste of space from a waste of space.

  • JCK June 9, 2017, 11:18 am

Why is this no-trained make-up artist commenting on who should and should not have access guns? Does she have a Law degree, No, Medical Degree, No. Does she have any disablement talent that she should get paid for, No. What value does she bring to our country? Nothing that I can figure out. Who cares what she says and why is she even been given space on the site? Are you guys that desperate for news?

  • Leighton Cavendish June 9, 2017, 10:57 am

“and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”- so young black males? Statistics bear this out. It is not racist/biased…it is a fact. Just look at Chicago…St Louis…Detroit…New Orleans…DC .

  • Leighton Cavendish June 9, 2017, 10:49 am

Anyone else think she might be confusing misdemeanor and felony?
She is not the sharpest tool in the box, after all.

  • Norm Fishler June 9, 2017, 10:40 am

For the most part I agree with the comments rendered but with one point that seems to have been completely omitted. KK is not a real person as we might imagine her to be. She has not an original thought in that empty, vacuous head of hers. Like so many stars, she knows absolutely nothing except what she’s told, and speaks not a single phrase that has not been scripted ahead of time. Such is the price of fame & fortune.

  • joefoam June 9, 2017, 10:31 am

Here we go again, giving someone who has not contributed anything valuable to society more air time. We should ignore these people and maybe they will just go away.

  • Dilligaf June 9, 2017, 10:22 am

  • Luke June 9, 2017, 8:44 am

    To S.H. BLANNELBERRY:
Is there any legitimate reason that you and other high school dropouts at gayhoo.com pander to people like kardashians? What exactly is it about them that intrigues you and moves you to actually write about anything those brainless whores think? Is it entertainment? Because if it is, try to understand that the only people who are entertained by them are the illiterate, entitlement-clad, clinton/sanders/obama voters. A broad ass, manufactured tits and std’s don’t really account for much to sane people. Stop pandering to insanity. Thank you.

  • KurtW June 9, 2017, 8:29 am

Oh, Honey (that would be KK), stick to making that manatee porn that I’ll never have any desire to see.
Trying to think…. just doesn’t suit you.

  • GRA June 9, 2017, 8:07 am

What the hell has happened to Gunowners of America … have you finally been infiltrated by closet-communist liberals? I always thought Y’all would be one of the last to get bought off but it appears I’m wrong.

Nobody gives a damn what KK (and other celebrities and “heros”) says anyway and why should we? What the hell does she know about firearms? The only thing she’s ever done notable is be a member of one of our nation’s most scramble-headed and freak families, not to add that obviously she is nothing more than a pathetic nasty SLUT in the first place.

This is pathetic. Don’t the writers here have anything else to write about anymore?

Exactly…where did GA get this writer…Yahoo’s Pop Sugar reporter pool?

  • Jeff Lebowski June 9, 2017, 7:17 am

Seriously? I can’t believe G.A. is even mentioning her name here. Socialites are wasted bags of bones and their opinions are worthless. I’m sure many readers agree that 99% of wealthy entertainers, socialites and actors do not deserve the credit they get in political or societal circles. Unbelievable.

  • Andy Buckmichael June 9, 2017, 7:04 am

Kim Kardashian is Robert Kardashians daughter. Robert Kardashian was one of OJ simpsons closest friends and lawyers.

Why does this matter? It doesnt. Just like Kims opinions on anything.

  • Martin B June 7, 2017, 5:13 pm

Kim could wear a Desert Eagle in a Flashbang bra holster. Though she would be even more inclined to tip over forwards if she tripped. Just like men who lose blood supply to their brain if they get over excited, I’m amazed that any of Kim’s blood supply makes it past her chest to feed her tiny brain. Still, it’s nice to think that she is able to overcome her disabilities and have a payday, even though what she says is wrong and harmful. But she does it without malice, and I like to think she has a kind nature. I presume she has never listened to any of her husband’s “musical” output, which is intolerable for those with normal hearing. Another example of the mentally impoverished being exploited by the greedy rich (Bloomberg).
