Kimber has been making waves with the K6s revolver line, which are words I never thought I would be typing. From the introduction 2 years ago, they have been steadily growing the line with more and more offerings. This year, three new models are set to debut at NRA show.Kimber K6s: Evolution of an Unlikely Revolver Hero — SHOT Show 2018

First up is the CDP, or Custom Defensive Package, which looks strikingly like the CDP 1911 from Kimber. That isn’t a knock, the CDP 1911 is a beautiful gun. In the K6s line, this gun features a stainless cylinder, controls, and barrel, contrasting the black DLC (diamond like coating) of the frame. This model also features the classic Kimber melt treatment, with all the edges rounded off for carrying. Rosewood grips complete the package.

Kimber K6s: Evolution of an Unlikely Revolver Hero — SHOT Show 2018SPECS: 3-inch

  • Chambering: .357 Mag.
  • Barrel: 3 inches

  • Grips: Laminated wood
  • Sights: Fiber-optic front
  • Action: Double-action-only

Last, but most different, is a new 3-inch model, dressed in all stainless steel. This gun is a great option for new gun owners, that need a gun they can train with in addition to carrying. I’m not saying you can’t learn on a snub nose, but the curve is going to be steep. The 3-inch option gives a bit more sight radius, and the additional weight helps tame the .357 Magnum recoil a bit more. This is a classic looking revolver, sure to be a hit.

Very nice, but Too expensive, I’ll go with the sp101 in 3”. For half the price. When I’m not carrying it, I can use it to pound nails

Whoa there! Two issues…minor one, first: The way I learned was anything under a 4-inch is most generally considered a “snubby” (snub-nose)…I have several 3-inch pieces and all were touted/advertised as such by various sellers to include individuals and gunshops. Also don’t understand the comment about “the curve is going to be steep” if learning on a 3-in rather than a 2-in…more like slight if negligible at all. Now, to the major issue: your almost condescending reference to revolvers as if only for new gunners and/or for training/learning, only. Better take your brain off the ‘auto’ setting and accord much better respect for both the six-shooter (wheel-gun, etc) AND those who choose to use and carry it far above and beyond any training/learning. For me…and obviously for many more than you give credit to…it’s the primary choice for life.

I think you got that backward–the OP is suggesting that learning to shoot .357 out of a 2″ snubby presents a steep learning curve compared to a 3″, not the other way around. And he didn’t say that revolvers are for new gunners/training, he was only suggesting that the third model, the 3″, was more appropriate for such folks. And I agree: .357 out of a 2″ barrel is usually pretty painful, the recoil diminishes accuracy, and the two combined means that people won’t practice. Personally, I don’t like such short high powered revolvers either, preferring 4″ and up.

I like my early K6S and prefer it to any S&W J-frame or my new Cobra. The 3” barrel is a nice addition to the line, but Kimber dropped the ball by not making it with a full length extractor.

Kudos to Kimber for adding revolvers to their product line. And the fact that they are made in the USA is another plus. Can’t have too many revolvers. Always good to have more choices. When they offer an external hammer in this model, I’ll buy one. Don’t want to pay for half a gun. Even with a snubbie, there are times when only a single-action trigger pull will do. Nice to have the option.

Ugly and way over priced and I’m a revolver guy.

“Unlikely Revolver Hero” Give me a break!

  • Fast Eddie January 31, 2018, 1:03 pm

How could anyone justify purchasing ANY Kimber product when they have a 1 year warranty?

  • bbbs53 January 31, 2018, 12:37 pm

Think I’ll keep my Smith’s. Looks like A Ruger Security Six. DA only and a long pull aren’t real inherent to accuracy and Kimber’s parts leave a lot to be desired. I have replaced a bunch of them with Colt 1911 parts due to premature wear. Really high price as usual for this company, no thanks.

I have the K6s and its trigger let off is longggg. I like the look of the 3″ but have a 66-2 3″ someone else safe queen I picked up. It is easy conceal but getting CWP in Cali sucks!

  • Brandon January 31, 2018, 9:54 am

Would love to see Kimber Chamber in the .327 Federal Magnum. The S&W 632 if found fetches well over any MSRP listed for the K6. Great Round with the Terminal Stopping Charactaristics of the .357 without the recoil and so many Ammo Options in the .32 Caliber to power down for practice for Women or Men who need Logistics Practice without the added recoil.

  • Robert Smith January 30, 2018, 7:28 pm

I like that Kimber is continuing to develop the K6. But they need to look at the masters when it comes to revolver making, Ruger and Smith & Wesson. Not just 2″ and 3″, there’s not enough difference. How about 4″, 6″ or longer. Fully adjustable rear sight. And of course there needs to be a SA/DA version. .357 is great but how about a 9mm option and a .22LR. A larger-frame version for the 44 and 45 rounds. There is a lot more Kimber could do with it.

    • WVinMN January 31, 2018, 7:58 am

If Kimber continues to sell a lot of revolvers, I’m sure they’ll expand their catalog. Personally, I’m very happy with my K6L, and would strongly consider buying a Kimber DA/SA hunting revolver chambered in 41 or 44 magnum. And as far as Ruger goes, maybe they can learn a thing or two from Kimber about putting an actual trigger on their firearms. You know, something that breaks a bit cleaner than than the trigger on my power washer.

      • Scott Jeffery May 21, 2018, 5:13 am

Just finished a long day and reading “something that breaks a little cleaner than the trigger on my pressure washer” – guaranteed to have me laughing in my sleep. Great line!

    • Baco January 31, 2018, 9:03 am

Well. no kidding. Give them time. The possibilities are almost limitless.

    • Kraig January 31, 2018, 11:42 am

I like that they are selling a 3” for the exact reason stated in article. It’s easier to train with, in that actually hitting the target might build some confidence, but still small enough to carry. Hard to find new models of the major companies selling 3” versions.
