Editor’s Note: In response to a lawsuit calling on the National Rifle Association to shutter its doors for good, NRA’s Exec. VP Wayne LaPierre sent out the following letter to members and prospective members on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020.

The radical fringe of our country – now openly supported and cheered by anti-gun politicians, elites, and the media – is working to tear America down and tear our nation apart.

Our cities have fallen under a cloud of violence, mayhem, and destruction. Crime rates are soaring.

Anti-gun politicians are shuttering gun shops and doing everything in their power to deny law-abiding Americans our Right to Keep and Bear Arms – and at the same time, ordering the police to stand down in the face of criminal violence.

This is nothing more than a disgusting, brazen attempt by gun-ban politicians to shackle freedom and leave regular, law-abiding Americans defenseless.

And now, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Letitia James just launched yet another attack in their war on our freedom – one they’ve been plotting and planning for years.

THEY ARE SUING TO FORCE NRA TO CLOSE OUR DOORS FOREVER.

Even on the campaign trail when she ran for office, Letitia James made it clear that she hated the NRA and everything we stand for.

She vowed that, if elected, she’d use the full power of the Attorney General’s office to silence our voice – even claiming that NRA isn’t a charitable organization but a “terrorist” one instead.

The fact is, NRA is the oldest and most effective civil rights organization in America – representing millions of law-abiding citizens from all walks of life.

BREAKING: New York Attorney General Files Suit Seeking to Dissolve the NRA

But according to Letitia James, NRA members are “terrorists” because we support a freedom enshrined in our Constitution that she personally despises and wants to eradicate from the face of the earth.

And now, she’s deployed the full power of the Attorney General’s office to take down the NRA – with a lawsuit to revoke our New York corporate charter that’s been in effect since 1871 and dissolve our Association.

This isn’t politics as usual. It’s a vendetta – by despotic government officials who believe their power entitles them to muzzle and destroy opposing views.

They’re inspired by pure contempt for the law, and by an unbridled and burning hatred for the NRA.

They know that the minute NRA closes its doors for the last time, our nation’s first and most important line of defense for the Second Amendment will be gone forever.

Make no mistake. NRA is fighting back with every ounce of legal strength we can muster. And others have joined us – even the ACLU – because they know that if the government can weaponize its power to shut down the NRA, it can shut down any organization in America.

But we can’t win this fight without you.

That’s why I’m asking you to join the National Rifle Association TODAY.

This weaponization of government power is like something you’d expect to see in Communist China – NOT in the United States of America.

This isn’t simply a fight for the continued existence of the NRA. It’s a fight for the continued existence of American freedom as we know it.

This is a fight for the Right-to-Carry permit in your pocket that you’re sure to lose if and when NRA goes out of business.

This is a fight for the guns in your safe that are certain to be banned and confiscated if NRA is forced to shut down.

And this is a fight for your God-given right to protect your life and your loved ones against violent criminals – who will still have their illegal guns long after you hear that knock at your door.

So please, join NRA today. Add your VOICE, your VOTE, and your MEMBERSHIP to our FIGHT.

Let’s not allow Andrew Cuomo and Letitia James to shutter and silence our great NRA fighting machine that’s done so much for freedom’s cause. Let’s not allow Cuomo and James to destroy our right to peaceably join together under the NRA banner to fight for the Constitutional rights we cherish.

And let’s not allow Cuomo and James to weaponize government – and turn this nation into a place where those in power can shut down any organization or silence any voice they disagree with.

If we win this battle, we will score the biggest victory for freedom in the history of the NRA – and make a mark on the Second Amendment and the First Amendment that will be remembered for generations.

That’s why it’s important for you to join NRA today. And when you join, you’ll receive a $15 or more discount on your dues, valuable members-only benefits, plus a FREE GIFT of your choice.

But the best benefit of all is leading the fight to save your Right to Keep and Bear Arms…a fight we can’t win without you.

So PLEASE, let me hear from you today.

We need to fight back against this attack like we’re fighting for the Declaration of Independence and our freedom – because it’s ALL on the line.

In Liberty,

LaPierre Makes Appeal to NRA Members Following Lawsuit to Dissolve Organization: 'If we lose this fight we lose everything'

Joined the NRA back in 1978, I have lost all faith in the NRA because of Wayne LaPierre. I feel he needs to step down now. Those $35,000.00 clothes he buys are complete BS. As a Life Member the NRA does not get another penny out of me until he’s gone. You may want to look at the Gun Owners of America that I am also a life member of. Old men just love to hang on to power and wealth when their time was up years ago.
Get on your pony Wayne and ride off into the sunset and just maybe we can save the NRA from itself.

  • Ronnie Maeker June 22, 2021, 12:40 am

It appears that if LaPierre REALLY has the best interest of gun owners at heart, he would step aside, take his cronies with him, and let someone who has a fiduciary mindset take over.

  • James January 11, 2021, 11:29 am

I’ve been a NRA member my entire adult life. I will turn 70 this year. We don’t need any distractions with what we are facing in government. LaPierre needs to quietly resign with everyone else who’s compromised, if he cares about anyone else or their 2A Rights.

  • david clarke January 8, 2021, 10:40 am

Reading these comments has convinced me the Left has already succeeded in unraveling the NRA. RIP

    • Martin Beijersbergen October 12, 2021, 10:50 am

You are right Sir thats how it was done in Europe
      Devide and conquer

  • Jay Warren Clark October 9, 2020, 5:02 pm

LaPierre: First clean your own house! If the NRA is not clean under your leadership, then you weaken instead of strengthening the Second Amendment!
Oh, and I’ve been asking your representatives/members in Arizona for a long time why the NRA settled so cheaply and unacceptably on its New Orleans lawsuit over gun confiscation during Catrina?
Wasn’t that a fabulous opportunity to take the issue to the higher courts? And if not, call me, I’d like to hear your explanation of why it wasn’t a fabulous opportunity to use the courts to secure the Second Amendment!
And why can’t any of your members answer this question for me? Is it because they aren’t heads-up enough to even ask the question, or have they asked and you haven’t condescended to answer them? Let’s hear from you. And until I get an adequate answer I won’t believe anything you say!

What rights would’ve been restored if instead of this selfserving crook we had a neal knox leading a united tens of millions of enthusiastic members to victory after victory.this thought causes me to fervently hope that this cretin is incarcerated until assuming room temp.

  • Bob August 16, 2020, 7:47 pm

I guess. Lt. Col North was on to something! Now clean that swamp!

    • Rattlerjake October 16, 2020, 1:27 pm

North was part of the problem. He was double dipping from the NRA while in the President position. North is just another corrupt asshole!

  • MBeach222 August 16, 2020, 1:23 pm

How can rank & file NRA members begin a Class Action suit against New York? When they call the NRA terrorists and criminals, they slander millions of loyal American gun owners. How can we fight back and teach them a lesson so that other states think twice before doing the same thing?

    • Kane August 18, 2020, 10:31 am

Good idea, bounce it off the NRA hotline or email.

  • MBeach222 August 16, 2020, 1:20 pm

There is only one national organization that has open doors on Capital Hill, the White House, and all 50 state legislatures. There is only one national organization that has the membership numbers to sway congress, and sway elections. Imagine how many local officials (elected with the help of the NRA) have voted down anti-gun laws? Supporting the NRA is an IQ test for gun owners. There is a reason why the Left has targeted them.

    • Rattlerjake October 16, 2020, 1:45 pm

And yet we have a “RINO” running the NRA. All you need to do is look up La Pierre’s background. Before joining the NRA he worked for a DEMOCRAP politician! LaPierre joined the NRA in 1977 after working as a legislative aide to Democratic Virginia delegate Vic Thomas. Being pro-gun doesn’t make you a conservative, it just means you can hate America but like guns.

    • Martin Beijersbergen October 12, 2021, 10:52 am

      👍👍👍👍👍

  • Phil August 16, 2020, 8:07 am

Does anyone think that if LaPierre resigns the liberals will stop attacking the NRA and our guns?

    • Kane August 18, 2020, 10:28 am

There are some here who do NOT understand that political lobbying requires extravagant spending. Several years ago Chicago spent over $30,000,000 wining and dining the Olympic Committee but ultimately lost the bid. Mayor Daley lost in one of his last political schemes but the taxpayers of Chicago won since that $30,000,000 was the end of the cities bleeding at the hands of the greedy OC.

If people here truly believe in the 2A then they would NOT have lost sight of all perspective and would wait until the NRA makes our case. Instead there is a group of fools and frauds that repeat this numbers NY AG James throws out. LaPierre is a secondary issue.

      • Rattlerjake October 16, 2020, 4:42 pm

And you’re one of those idiots that think that is about money.

La Pierre is a thorn in the side of the NRA. His spending hasn’t been for the issues, it has been wasted on him and his private agendas. All he does is beg for more money — why doesn’t he spend some of the tens of millions he has stolen from the organization on this fight? The NRA will NOT disappear, but it will not be effective again until we get the “swamp” out of the administration!

        • Kane November 28, 2020, 6:30 pm

Before you go calling other people “idiots” get you argument straight.

You start out sating the following: “And you’re one of those idiots that think that is about money.”

And then all you did was talk about money. I care about the organization NOT LaPierre. I also do NOT believe Oliver North was going to save the day.

Now, if you are so smart then keep your dubious claims of “tens of millions” and provide the details of another pro 2A group(s) that lobbying politicians. The legal battles are important but so are the political issues. Political battles are expensive and politicians have taken money for years only to turn their back on the NRA.

Speaking of turning their back, I bet the antis would love people like you, the real “IDIOTS.”

      • Martin Beijersbergen October 12, 2021, 10:53 am

  • Kane August 15, 2020, 9:25 pm

August 6, 2020 — The NRA commented today on a lawsuit announced by New York Attorney General Letitia James against the organization.

“This was a baseless, premeditated attack on our organization and the Second Amendment freedoms it fights to defend,” said NRA President Carolyn Meadows. “You could have set your watch by it: the investigation was going to reach its crescendo as we move into the 2020 election cycle. It’s a transparent attempt to score political points and attack the leading voice in opposition to the leftist agenda. This has been a power grab by a political opportunist – a desperate move that is part of a rank political vendetta. Our members won’t be intimidated or bullied in their defense of political and constitutional freedom.”

William A. Brewer III, partner at Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors and counsel to the NRA, stated, “We will aggressively defend this organization and its members. The investigation reveals the NYAG has aligned herself with disgraced vendors and former partners who would support a contrived narrative for personal gain. The truth is, the transactions in question have been reviewed, vetted and approved – and every dollar spent by the NRA has been in furtherance of its mission to defend constitutional freedom. End of story.”

The NRA today filed a lawsuit against James – confronting her partisan investigation. Filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, the lawsuit notes that, under the guise of protecting New Yorkers and enforcing state nonprofit law, the NYAG has weaponized its regulatory and legal powers to harm a political adversary.

James famously vowed to “target the NRA” and “investigate the legitimacy of the NRA as a charitable organization” while on the campaign trail in July 2018 – before spending even one day in office and without any evidence of wrongdoing.

“As evidenced by the lawsuit filed by the NRA today against the NYAG, we not only will not shrink from this fight – we will confront it and prevail,” said Meadows.

  • Pantexan August 15, 2020, 7:53 pm

The NRA should be open with their financial information. What leadership positions are paid and which are volunteers. Salaries, benefits, and perks for the leadership should be transparent to it members. Until that information is available the NRA is hiding something.

  • steve levine August 15, 2020, 1:34 pm

I have been a member since 1971 as an annual member but came up to Benefactor. I know Wayne and have met him personally many times. He has disappointed me this time. No excuse for his behavior. I was at the 2019 annual meeting of members and experienced the turmoil. I will will especially miss Chris Cox. I am smart enough to realize the the NY lawsuit is not about Wayne and some others but to dissolve the NRA. If it were about Wayne he and others would be sued not the organization.
Resign Wayne bring back Chris Cox to take control.

  • Robert E Chrostowski August 15, 2020, 10:53 am

We need the NRA to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. We don’t need LaPierre and his cronies filing their pockets with the cash cow they believe they have.

    • Mikial August 15, 2020, 7:59 pm

Refusing to support the NRA because you don;t like LaPierre is literally throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Americans need to hang together or we will surely hang alone. Not supporting the NRA is the same thing as supporting the Liberals who hate it and you for being a gun owner.

      • Brent Baird January 8, 2021, 9:34 am

No, it’s not that tired old “logic” you state. Here’s a idea , the one that we’ve all been “schooled” to believe is ” uncivilized , immoral, criminal, and unChristian” . We’ve allowed them to tie up the hands of honorable men with these teachings , while they practice the ideals of Satanism! Withdraw funding , let them pass laws, rebel, then hold them all responsible at the gallows! Time to erase the mental illness of the extreme liberal left and every self seeking , greedy, ” uncivilized , immoral, criminal, and unChristian” , member of this country. They are a STAIN on the history of this country and every M F who thinks like and/or supports them. Foxes in the chicken house are never a problem for a man who accepts responsibility for the situation and that man don’t suffer foolish rhetoric over the feelings and “right to live” with the woman folk and casturated men type!

  • Clint W. August 15, 2020, 10:27 am

I don’t believe the vitriolic comments here are from anybody but anti-2A leftists, or illiterates that have never read any NRA publication. If you can read, then perhaps you have read the point by point rebuttal to all the accusations from the media and the NY government. Before you dog pile onto the NRA because of clothing, you better learn the truth. CCRKBA and the SAF do the best they can, but right now the NRA is the only front line of defense, and they take all the abuse from the left. The last thing they need is abuse from the Right.

    • Kane August 15, 2020, 8:55 pm

Well said, there are some who have lost sight of the objective and liars and there are many frauds.

  • C.G. Rood August 15, 2020, 10:12 am

Wayne has to go, along with any other “fat cats” who have been abusing their positions for personal gain. I’m a long-time NRA member who remembers when the organization worked for my benefit, not top managements’. His recent letter warning of gun confiscation, etc, is pure hogwash. Gun confiscation isn’t in our future – ever. There are literally millions of gun owners in this country, many of whom are non-NRA members, who simply wouldn’t stand still for such an attempt. I’m one of them. Let’s get the organization back to doing what it does best and start with a clean sweep of upper management.

    • Mikial August 15, 2020, 8:00 pm

“Gun confiscation isn’t in our future – ever. ”

Wow, are you naive. It’s already happening in many states. Read the news.

    • Kane August 15, 2020, 9:07 pm

The antis hope to ban certain firearms and magazines by any means necessary including executive order. There might NOT be door to door confiscation but if you go to a range then beware and if someone drops the dime on you then beware. If law enforcement is called to your house then beware and if a banned firearm is stolen from you then beware. The high crime cities are awash in illegally posseted firearms that eventually end up in the in the smelting pot. That’s what Biden Harris beto and the rest want.

  • mIke August 15, 2020, 9:14 am

It’s sad that this is best we have to offer in our declining attempt to keep the 2 A.

What’s worse is that wayne and present company are no better than the politicians they were supposedly keeping at bay.

They lost me when Oliver and Chris Cox left.

I can’t support them while wayne is still driving the bus, especially when this forthcoming election will be so critical.

On the other hand, while the ag is at it, how about looking into that other “foundation” in New York….

  • Diego Conde August 15, 2020, 12:39 am

While these playboys lived la vida Loca at the expense of our sincere membership contributions, they destroyed our organization. Now they want more money from us to bail them out. Screw them, let them pay back out of their pockets and serve time behind barrs if need to.

    • I Love Freedom August 15, 2020, 10:15 am

I completely agree. Stupid actions have bad consequences. Wayne, I hope you are happy that you may have by your corrupt actions destroyed the National Rifle Association. I give to Gun Owners of America now. No bail out money from me for Wayne or any of his cronies.

I hope you go goodbye Wayne.

  • sid costello August 14, 2020, 11:58 pm

Wayne, if this was so important to you, why then did you turn into a greedy pig during your period as ‘Leader’ here.

  • John G Lee August 14, 2020, 11:38 pm

Wayne and his cronies have to return any money they wasted and/or stole and resign. Until then, zero financial support from me. I demand a full audit and investigation. Benefactor Life Member.

  • Norm Fishler August 14, 2020, 10:04 pm

We saw how Oliver North tried to reform the NRA and we saw how long it took for the Blue Blood, Country Club elitists to run him off. I honestly believe if he had been given a chance, some real change would have taken place. Hopefully, he’ll be able to get something done if given another chance

  • Burzghash August 14, 2020, 7:38 pm

Good. The NRA is crooked and corrupt, and they deserve to be dissolved for their financial fraud.

Fuck the fake patriots who continue to support this corrupt organization.

  • Dexter winslett August 14, 2020, 6:32 pm

Wayne has sold us out many times. With him in charge, there is already no NRA!

  • JP Gallus August 14, 2020, 6:21 pm

If the NRA opens their books as asked, and the state A G finds corruption or theft, those in the wrong should be prosecuted like any criminal. To steal from a non profit, when all of us depended on you is worse than corporate theft, and the consequences should be harsher. You won’t open the books for your own members, there is something wrong. Fix it. Resign. or Open the books. The longer the delay the worse it makes all members look, and the worse it is for the association.

  • Willie-O August 14, 2020, 6:19 pm

I have been a member of the NRA over the years and overall, there has been no better ally in the fight for the 2nd Amendment. As for the various allegations that have been made against Wayne LaPierre, the NRA itself and other officers/board members, I simply say this: consider the source(s). I’m certainly not prepared to accept the accusations and allegations of a bunch of leftist gun-haters as fact. As for Wayne and his associates, I’m willing (for now) to consider them the “lesser of 2 evils”. The NRA needs to be saved and restored to its former role. Wayne and friends can and should be dealt with later. Remember this – with VERY few exceptions, all good liberal progressives hate guns and those of us that own ‘em. Period. Anything they do or say to the contrary is merely an attempt to gain the trust of those of us that are pro gun until they can reach their true goal, the total elimination of firearms.

    • michael August 15, 2020, 4:38 pm

Confiscations will be so much harder now, anyone look at sales lately ? LMAO

  • Phil August 14, 2020, 6:07 pm

Wayne – where to begin. As a Benefactor member for years, I’ve seen Wayne’s salary increase. Most everything has been said before. What pissed me off was Wayne gladhanding with Senator Reid in Nevada. Wayne’s acquiescence to National Background Checks and the Bump stock cave in was the final straw. No money till he’s gone…

  • John K August 14, 2020, 5:35 pm

I agree with those above who state that Wayne-O needs to go! First the $35,000 of Rodeo Drive Clothing, then window shopping for a $6 million dollar mansion. Now reports of luxury vacations, loans, padded expense accounts, insider deals…….

I am a 24 year member, and if the New York AG proves even one of those charges, I’m out!

  • RICHARD A BECK August 14, 2020, 5:26 pm

I’m a life member of NRA. For the same reasons I believe in term limits, I believe Wayne should retire. No matter how competent he may be, or may have been, he carries far too much baggage, and lives far too high on the hog a life style for a non-profit manager so much in the public eye. He has become a fat cat: D.C. swamp rat. As for losing standing in New York, so what. Re-incorporate somewhere the business will be appreciated. How ’bout Cheyenne? Denver? Omaha? Billings? Cut 90% of the crap, and just do the job. All the lobbyists have offices in D.C. Checks to them can be mailed from anywhere, or transferred by credit card via the net. Get a grip! The last person who should be using scare tactics on us, the citizenry, is Wayne LaPierre. The democrats do enough of that.

    • michael August 15, 2020, 4:43 pm

Exactly, scare tactics. Highest firearm purchases since the last election. And a lot are New gun owners. Can’t keep firearms and ammo in stock. But yeah they coming for your guns.

  • Dwight Medo August 14, 2020, 5:03 pm

I am a life member and stopped supporting the NRA causes due to Wayne and will not as long as he is part of it, so do us a favor and leave for good.

  • Bryan Bishop August 14, 2020, 4:40 pm

NRA needs to be smart and move their operations to gun friendly State. It seems like complete insanity to stay in a State that is anti-gun. That is just needlessly asking for trouble…Get out of NY State!

  • KEITH CARR August 14, 2020, 4:37 pm

As a third generation Life Member (Endowment), I am disgusted at what LaPierre has done the organization my father and grandfather so strongly believed in. The NRA has turned from an organization supporting and fostering members & the shooting sports, to a group of self-dealing scumbags intent to line their own pockets. Clearly WLP and his ilk have spent too much time in DC, as they’ve picked up the methods of Congress.

WLP needs to be gone NOW!!!

  • Dale Kehrer August 14, 2020, 3:44 pm

Have any of you guys ever heard of Divide and Conquer? That’s exactly what they’re trying to do to the NRA and you guys are falling for it. True, we could be represented better, but it is what it is. I send in my money and so far the NRA has kept the wolves from coming in. We need to come together on this attack and stand with our leaders. The bottom line is the 2nd A and who is strong enough to defend it. It is the only thing that gives teeth to the Constitution. Without it, the Constitution is just a worthless piece of paper. No other group has, as of yet, shown that they are powerful enough to do battle for the 2nd A on a continuing basis. STAND TOGETHER

  • bjg August 14, 2020, 3:33 pm

I don’t know about Wayne, All I do know is that if a democrat told me the Sun comes up in the East I’d have to look and see. democrats are the biggest liars in the World and are out to destroy America. All democrats hate America and the 2nd Amendment there are no good democrats . As for Wayne I need to see proof one way or another.

  • FirstStateMark August 14, 2020, 3:27 pm

I’m not giving another dime until Wayne leaves. And no big parachute leaving bonus. Crook!

    • tretpflyr August 14, 2020, 11:08 pm

DITTO. Time for Wayne to leave! This guy has been suckking of the cow for way too long.

  • Rollin L August 14, 2020, 3:25 pm

I already know what Wayne-Boy is going to say, no need to read. Instead, I went straight to the comments. I can’t tell y’all how glad I am to see all the folks posting here that they want the corrupt, Elitist leadership of the NRA to get the hell out of Dodge, and give us our gun org back. The Machiavellian gutting of Neal Knox in 1997, and the identical play pulled on Ollie North in 2019, all are the work of Wayne-Boy LaPierre and his third-world-like cabal. Look at the history. His pathetic cry of “blackmail” in 2019 is EXACTLY what he did in 1997. He needs a new game. We are on to you, Wayne-Boy.

  • Scott August 14, 2020, 3:04 pm

Perhaps you didn’t see the police arresting people for sitting on the beach and throwing women down and handcuffing them for not wearing a mask.
Don’t put too much faith in some of those people not doing just as the government tells them!

  • Dave Flomerfelt August 14, 2020, 2:19 pm

I have been a NRA member for about 30 years, and just received my renewal notice I will return it empty until Wayne is gone. I have always enjoyed American Rifleman and will miss it.

    • William Mosbey August 15, 2020, 12:49 am

You can stop and pick up my copy when I’m done with it

  • John Anderson August 14, 2020, 1:32 pm

I knew Wayne when he wasn’t a Washington insider. When Richard Childress leaves the Board without comment, there is something wrong. The best thing Wayne could do for gun rights is to identify the best young person to lead the charge … and step aside along with his obviously self-dealing staff.

  • Douglas August 14, 2020, 1:09 pm

You blew it Wayne! You sold us out and continue to do so. Nothing you say matters any longer.
I’m a life member, no more money from me ..for you.

    • Jim August 14, 2020, 2:53 pm

I absolutely agree. He has destroyed a once great organization and established it as his own personal slush fund. I’ve been a life member since 1969 and when I wrote a letter to the BoD complaining about the direction LaPiere was taking the NRA I was cut off from all communication and haven’t received the Rifleman since. My letters have been ignored.

Join the GOA, an organization that still represents gun owners, not the elite!

  • Standforthe2nd August 14, 2020, 1:04 pm

It’s time for Wayne to step down or be thrown out!!! Before everyone starts demanding a hanging , I say show me the proof !!

    • Mat August 14, 2020, 6:01 pm

Life member here also. I do agree with evidence but don’t hardly disbelieve the accusation. If proven true no umbrella fire him and demand repayment back onto the coffers. Might be time to change leadership and have a greater accounting for the money spent.

    • Chuck October 9, 2020, 10:11 am

It is hard to prove waynes guilt as he continues to hide the books from an independent audit. I quit the NRA when Ollie was pushed out. So sad.

  • Lyle Knox August 14, 2020, 12:55 pm

Wayne LaPierre is the main reason that I stopped being an NRA member. He needs to go, and has needed to go for decades. He needs to take his criminal cronies with him, too.

  • Doc Mullins August 14, 2020, 12:34 pm

They should not bet afraid to take our guns. I am not afraid of them taking The Patriots will not let this happen.Military, Retirees ,Active, Vets and their families, Police, 1st Respon-ders. Corrections, Most inmates, Hunters, gun dealers, on and on…

  • frank August 14, 2020, 12:31 pm

  • JR Waters August 14, 2020, 12:28 pm

Wayne has got to go. Do the right thing. Wayne no longer serves the purpose of the march.

  • Nic Afshartoos August 14, 2020, 12:22 pm

Yes, send me the money, so I get a raise, $5,000,000.00 annual salary and expense credit card is not enough.
Not to mention, kick back I get from gun lobbies .
Oliver North tried to stop it, I kicked his ass.
142,800 members need to renew to cover my salary each year.
Of course he charges all his expenses on NRA credit card, paid by NRA.

    STOP PLAYING FEAR FACTOR
REDUCE YOUR SALARY TO $100.000.00 a year then we listen.
I lived in Washington DC on $90.000.00 salary comfortably.

  • Robert August 14, 2020, 12:13 pm

Let it burn. My donations go to a local group (NVFAC), Second Amendment Foundation, and Gun Owners of America.

  • Bob B August 14, 2020, 12:13 pm

Wayne caused this mess, he needs to do the right thing and resign, as well as all the others involved. No progress will be made until he is gone.

  • davud August 14, 2020, 12:08 pm

the benefits to russia have nothing to do with arms, just as so much of the nra’s political advocacy has nothing to to do with arms.

russia seeks a weakened u.s. and weakened nato to enable further power grabs like its ukraine annexations. russia does this by striking deals with unscrupulous american politicians willing to sell out constitutional ideals for illicit aid to gain or hold office and power. naive american gun owners have enabled an avenue into the homeland for russian spies like maria butina, believing an authoritarian like vladimir putin would permit anything like an opposition gun advocacy group to exist.

that’s how russia ‘benefits from an armed america’ — by pretending it’s an ally of the americans with the arms.

  • bruce porter August 14, 2020, 11:52 am

I was an NRA member as a kid in the early 1950s and remember it as a kindly-uncle, pipe-smoking sort of organization, not interested in money or politics, just in giving out useful information about the care and handling and history of guns. If i were dead, LaPierre would be causing me to turn over in my grave.

  • TK August 14, 2020, 11:51 am

Hey Wayne, here’s an idea – WHY DON’T ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN CORRUPT AND ABUSING THEIR POSITIONS STEP DOWN? Easy enough if you are actually worried about keeping the NRA around, only hard if you would rather keep lining your pockets with our dollars and sacrifice the NRA.

So which is it Wayne? Keep corrupt leadership and lose NRA, or save the NRA?

  • S. Reinz August 14, 2020, 11:47 am

No more money till Wayne is gone- completely. No back door consultanting.

    • Only Trump 2020 August 14, 2020, 12:15 pm

      100% agree

  • Drained of money August 14, 2020, 11:31 am

Wayne needs to go. I’m a NRA Life member and I think he’s only about the money.

  • Jeff August 14, 2020, 11:00 am

Wow, that’s a nice suit Wayne.

  • pete August 14, 2020, 11:00 am

i think the NRA directors and board deserve to loose everything. When I was a kid the NRA wasn’t so bat poop crazy, nor were the directors wealthy from the members’ dues.

  • Jeff August 14, 2020, 11:00 am

Wow, that’s a nice suit Wayne. You’re welcome.

  • Michael R Stuhr August 14, 2020, 10:34 am

I hope the NRAQ survives but I hope Lapiere resigns in disgrace along with any others exposed as living large on dues money
Prosecutor claims 26 MILLION in documented illegal expenditures. If she has proof as she says I’m all for jail time.
This reminds me of the blind eye held by the Catholic church towards abusive priests.
NRA has know there was a problem and turned a blind eye. They should act brutally and weed out those that think we owe them more than inflated salaries.
I have been a member and supporter of the NRA for 40+ years and we members deserve better.
Our range requires NRA membership or I would have dropped out by now.
I hope they seek to be what they once were instead of following the ways of the FBI and Catholic church.
    GO AWAY WAYNE!

  • mike August 14, 2020, 10:25 am

I think that the main problem is that Wayne has corrupted the whole board and by doing that given the NY folks the ammo to take the NRA down. If it was just Wayne they would have gotten him for stealing but all the monies and expensive goodies were gifted to him by the board and they also gifted/ contracted for monies and goodies for themselves and family members too. So NY can now say look the whole thing top to bottom is operating illegally and has to be shut down.
If Wayne and the board cared about the NRA they all would resign and get a new board to clean house and pick up the pieces. But sadly Wayne seems to think that he is the NRA and the NRA is him. And if he goes down he is taking the NRA with him.
But all is not lost because the lawyers hired by the NRA are getting rich defending Wayne on this one…

    • Only Trump 2020 August 14, 2020, 12:18 pm

Wayne is showing that he cares only for himself or he would have resigned by now.

  • Eric S August 14, 2020, 10:14 am

I guess it’s time to file a lawsuit against the Democratic National Party for the same reasons, they are a terrorist organization bent on destroying the Constitution of The United States.

    • angel rodriguez August 14, 2020, 12:20 pm

I am for the NRA but this board needs to go.
If this board cared for the NRA they would lock themselves up

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 8:56 am

      Great Idea!

  • Russell Levin August 14, 2020, 9:46 am

I am a life member of the NRA and have been for about 30 years.
Mr. LaPierre has personally brought the NRA to it’s knees through his egregious and public self-aggrandizement, greed, mismanagement and misdirection of the NRA. He has grown wealthy on the backs of NRA members, enjoying an outlandish salary and lavish perks. Worst of all he has aligned the NRA with political issues that have nothing to do with gun rights or firearms education, which is the original core purpose of the NRA, alienating and offended both large groups of members, many now former members and the general public. He has used the NRA for his own benefit financially and politically, embroiling the NRA in his murky financial management so successfully that the prosecutors are treating it as his personal criminal enterprise and are no longer satisfied by bringing him personally to justice. The end result of his tenure may be the destruction of this once great organization.
This, the humbling and destruction of the NRA, is all on Wayne LaPierres head.

    • DavidInCO August 14, 2020, 10:21 am

Agreed. I too am a life member. If Wayne hadn’t handed this POS, Letitia James, all the ammo she needs to shut down the NRA, then this wouldn’t be happening. You F$#@!ed us, Wayne!

Fortunately, the NRA is no longer the only game in town. I am fairly certain some group like the Second Amendment Foundation will step up to take their place. It may be time for a change of guard. Crooks need to fall and it doesn’t matter what side of the political isle they are on.

    • davud August 14, 2020, 11:42 am

      Well said.

  • Gordon August 14, 2020, 9:44 am

The 2nd amendment is a deterant, placed in the hands of law obiding citizens in a free country, by our forefathers, smart enough to know from experience, what it would take not to be subjects of an abusive government, nealing to those, who could take advantage of its people, who, they are supposed to protect. By forming our Constatution, of rights to the people, that one amendment the 2nd, protects them all. Just as you can go out and peacefully protest, and that not be taken, even when some abuse that, dont see any or ever a push to take those rights away from the peaceful protesters, as it should be with the 2nd, right to bare arms. The criminal element, doesn’t not dictate rights, including the criminal element in our government who constantly tries to disarm its citizens, based off of there own actions , criminal in them self,, which is why we possess this right. Its a hypocritical drive, to eliminate truely a free life in a free country, in the hands of those whom are supposed to protect that. That right to take shoukd not be in the hands of the ones it protects us from to began with, giving the burgler the keys to your home? That should tell any common sense person the motive why they try. We have liberated tyrantical governments in other countries, for there citizens, with our blood, and with better weapons, to do so, than the hypocritcal tyrants in this country, think we should not have, and it is less we posses actually. Just as a vehicle is the most dangerous weapon this country people uses each day killing way more, and is just a privaledge, and we don’t DRIVE, it to the wall , to push, each day to elimate that, based off who abuse that, going back to the horse a buggy days elimanating all technology our forfathers KNEW, we would expand to, thus the 2nd amendment, another point of the hypocracy, to eliminate our protection from those abuse, that drive to constantly go after it, is obvious, who will liberate us if its taken? We stand now, but some let that be on a cliff, toes dangling, putting there lifes protections, at a whiff of wind from the mouth of tyranny, before they act. Don’t wait till your looking up, as you legs are broke from the fall off that cliff, nealing forever, from the reluctance to face wrong doing. We have a voice, use it, it comes with backup, for now.

  • Lejuch August 14, 2020, 9:36 am

I believe if ol’ Wayne REAL motives were the preservation of the 2nd amendment rather than enriching himself and his personal circle, he would step down, take his gluttonous money habits and retire. If the NRA is to survive, this is the ONLY option.

    • Carl August 14, 2020, 10:15 am

      AMEN!

  • Paul Collins August 14, 2020, 9:32 am

If Wayne really cared about the NRA he would step down and let the money and new members flow in. The enemy knows the NRA is split and weak because of all the controversy over Wayne’s leadership. The board should remove him and heal the NRA.

  • SD DENTON August 14, 2020, 9:16 am

Yes, if found guilty, Wayne needs to go. However, don’t give up on the organization that has been the most effective supporter of your gun rights. They need to move and reorganize. Sometimes you have to choose the lesser of the two evils. The choice is yours. You can support the NRA, or you can support Andrew Cuomo and Latitia James. Hopefully, with enough support and letters to the board, they will listen and remove Wayne and the rest from their positions.

    • Winters August 14, 2020, 3:14 pm

Wrong! The GOA is what the NRA once was before LaPiere sunk his greedy fangs into its neck. Support the GOA, they still represent our 2A rights and our interests, not their own empire building.

  • Ralph Castanza August 14, 2020, 9:14 am

WE stand with the NRA and support what they do. This is nothing more than another progressive grab at our rights under the Constitution.

    • angel rodriguez August 14, 2020, 12:22 pm

Dont confuse things. This is a corrupt board; if they really were about doing the right thing, they would have not defrauded us all.

They could start by resigning so a new board can be put in place; by holding on they taint the entire organization

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:03 am

      CORRECT, Ralph C.!

  • TERRY August 14, 2020, 9:10 am

Agreed! We need the NRA to fight our enemies.

  • TERRY August 14, 2020, 9:08 am

Wayne and the rest of the executives might not have been straight with it’s members on how they use our funds, but the NRA is still the best weapon we have to fight for our 2d Amendment rights. I urge all freedom loving Americans to join NOW. That would drive the left absolutely crazy. Wouldn’t that be fun to watch?

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:04 am

      Agreed!

  • John August 14, 2020, 9:07 am

Let’s take on the Political crooks first, then if Wayne is a problem we can deal with that.

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:06 am

      Exactly right!
Wayne MAY have stolen or misused some money! But plenty of D.C. CROOKS have STOLEN a hell-of-a-lot MORE! Now they have us fighting each-other instead of looking at THEM! With NO EVIDENCE SHOWN!

By using the same logic, Hitler was only the 4th worst genocidal maniac of the 20th century (after Japan,Mao, and Stalin). So you can say he wasn’t too bad.
NO THEY ARE ALL BAD ! Give to other legitimate organizations to preserve the Second amendment.

  • John Howard August 14, 2020, 8:51 am

Starting in 1986 what did the NRA do about the ban on “new manufactured automatic weapons” to the NFA for the citizens of the US ? Nothing

1989 Ban on military style weapon’s import, what did the NRA do ? Nothing.

1994 Temporary ban on semi automatic rifles and magazine capacity, what did the NRA do ? Nothing. This was the last year I was a member of the NRA. Until Wayne is gone I refuse to rejoin. I’ll join JPFO, SAF, or GOA they do fight for our rights. So thanks Wayne you sold us out for the last time with my money.

    • Kane August 14, 2020, 10:32 am

The NRA fought and lost the 1994 “AWB” which was really covering “assault style” rifle There were at least five characteristics that would place a firearm in the same category as an “assault style” rifle. As I recall a detachable magazine, flash suppressor, pistol grip, bayonet lug and semi auto selector switch were among the features. A firearm could have 3 of the 5 characteristics and still be available for purchase. So the “ban” was merely a matter of aesthetics and much less to do lethality since there were plenty of hi cap mags still available. The Congressional vote was hard fought and close with a sunset provision of 10 years. I guess so the Dems could have another issue to run Willie Jeff Clinton’s successor could have the issue to run on and the Rep’s would have another shot on winning the fight.

Be sure to finally join the “JPFO, SAF, or GOA” after all these years since your all you BIG money has been in safe keeping for so long.

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:11 am

The NRA FOUGHT ALL OF THOSE bills! You confuse LOST A FIGHT with NOT FIGHTING! In the ’94 bill, NRA managed to insert a “Poison Pill”, which was the NICS system, and that ENDED the ban on rifles and mags in 2004! If not for that, The Brady Campaign and Diane Finkelstein would STILL be gloating over what they managed to do!

  • Terry Britt August 14, 2020, 8:50 am

i look at like this if col. north was going to be apart of the nra but walked away from it because of how wayne has trashed the nra i for one will follow col. north.

  • W. B. Johnson August 14, 2020, 8:48 am

As a decades-long NRA member who owns 57 different types of firearms (including two “assault weapons) I couldn’t agree with you more. Your articulate observations should be in the form of an open letter to LaPierre published in multiple newspapers. Good for you!

  • Gordon August 14, 2020, 8:32 am

Putting all law obiding american citizens, who are members, in this situation to have an organization you belong to and support to protect your rights, when should not need an organization to do that anyway, under the constitution, is a travesty anyways, then the organization you join with all the rest of your fellow Americans, to LEAD, in your fight to to hold on to that right, then seems to steal that what you have donated to do such, is like hiring someone to come in and protect you guns, and same person comes in and takes the money out of your safe? It surely puts one in a precarious position, seemingly needing protection for something you shouldnt, 2nd amendment rights, and same protection entity, seemingly steals your fight monetarily, very hypocritical, and we need honesty, to beat the dishonesty, of those who are trying to take rights to began with. Hypocracy is the cancer everywhere, a lier is one thing a hypocrit lies to you and thereself, don’t want a thief protecting me my guns or my 2nd amendment constatutional rights. We shouldnt even need this folks, legislating us out of my rights is infringment plain and simple. Who has the right period to even BE ABLE TO DO THAT? OUR ELECTED LEADERS WHO WORK FOR US? I FEEL THE OLD PHRASE, COME AND TAKE THEM, WILL BE WHAT IS NEEDED TO PERSONALLY PROTECT WHAT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN, AND IT WILL BE UP TO THE CITIZENS TO UPHOLD THERE OWN RIGHTS, WITH EXACTLY THAT RIGHT, THATS WHY WE HAVE IT, “ABUSE”, OF IT !!! BACKS PRESSED AGAINST WALLS, CONSTANTLY, FORCES HANDS. CANT BAN EVERYTHING IN LIFE, WITH RISK, AND YA DONT PUT WHOLE WHOLE TOWN IN JAIL WHEN SOMEONE ROBS THE BANK, DO PROCESS HAS FELLED, AND BEING GIVEN THE RIGHT, TO FIGHT, WIN OR LOOSE, IS IN ALL OF OUR POSSESSION. FOR NOW? COULD PREACH ALL DAY FOLKS ON THIS BUT ITS COMMON SENSE. STAND OR NEAL. NO PEOPLE SHOULD NEAL TO ANY OTHER PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY ABUSING ONES RIGHTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WE ELECT TO WORK FOR US AND PROTECT OUR RIGHTS. OUR FOREFATHERS VISIONED THIS. RESPECT THAT, AND THEM, AND BE MORE , LIKE THEM. THEY HAVE OUTCLASSED US ALL, WITH CHARACTER, TRUTH AND HONESTY, WE SHOULD LIVE BY. 2ND AMENDMENT PROTECTS US, AND ALL OF THE AMENDMENTS, AND OUR FREEDOM.

  • Douglas E E Baker August 14, 2020, 8:28 am

Save our freedom and the second amendment. Looking at the current state of the USA and breakdown of law and security, every law biding America needs a way to defend there selves. If the left wing is successful, and it appears they are close, socialism will be the way of the land. Patriots unite!!! Save the USA for another 200 years! God, family, honor.

  • John McPherson August 14, 2020, 8:16 am

Wayne, it is time to leave, and quickly. We needs the NRA much more then we need you right now. Make the statement, say you are leaving to save the cause. But leave.

    • Kane August 14, 2020, 10:39 am

YES, even if he is innocent Wayne should fall on his sword.

  • Nick August 14, 2020, 8:06 am

Maybe they should have stood up for the 2nd Amendment. The right to form a militia and own full auto lowers shall not be infringed.

  • Phil August 14, 2020, 7:54 am

This is not the time to be divided over the NRA. If we want to save our guns we need solidarity.

    • Martin Beijersbergen August 14, 2020, 9:26 am

      YOU ARE SO RIGHT.

I CAN’T BELIEVE THE STUPIDITY OF ALL THESE COMMENTS.

KEEP IT UP AND FOR SURE YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE IT ALL.

LIKE THE REST OF THE WESTERN WORLD.

MY GOD WINSTON CHURCHILL WAS SO RIGHT

      • Clayton August 14, 2020, 10:04 am

        My thoughts exactly!

    • NC_Lib August 14, 2020, 9:54 am

You couldn’t be more wrong. The NRA has a cancer, and that cancer has ALREADY DIVIDED US. There are millions of NRA members and potential members that believe in the cause, but refuse to watch their money being stolen and pocketed by wealthy plutocrats that have lost their moral compass, If they ever had one in the first place.

      Wayne LaPierre must go.

The only way to right the ship is to extract the tumor. Only then can we bring this fight back back with a united group of like-minded gun rights Americans. I read the comments sections on all of these articles, and while there is an occasional post in support of LaPierre, it is overwhelmingly (like +98%) against him. People talking about how they have dropped out after decades, they no longer send extra money, they absolutely REFUSE to continue to support the questionable financial habits of the NRA leadership. We are already divided, maybe irreparably. Continuing down this path will only do continued damage to the fabric of our cause.

      Wayne LaPierre must go.

And don’t think the anti-2A groups are not aware of this. They see the weakness, the collapsed common front. And they are going to make moves. They are going to do whatever they can to whittle away whatever rights we have, and we will never get them back. So I agree that we need solidarity. But that solidarity will only come when LaPierre is no longer the face of the NRA.

      Wayne LaPierre must go.

LaPierre has clearly become blind to reality if he thinks he can stay in power. He is like a Bandana Republic dictator. He once saw things clearly and concisely, but his power has destroyed his inner ability to identify his own malfeasance. He has become drunk with his power, and has now devolved into a leader that will do anything to hold on to that power. Look up the history of any 20th century dictator. Read the chain of events, how he went from a devoted believer in the cause, but ended up dead at the hands of the very people he was supposedly helping. The parallels to the current NRA and LaPierre are shocking.

      Wayne LaPierre must go.

He sees himself above the rules, above the questions, above the responsibilities to his organization. He doesn’t care who he hurts. He doesn’t care who he brings down with him. He doesn’t care about the damage to the cause that has already come from his leadership, in fact he can’t even see the damage. And therefore he doesn’t care or even understand the damage he will continue to do by clinging on to power. If he is not removed from power, soon, we will lose territory in this fight that will be lost forever. Lost by us, lost by our children, lost by our grandchildren. Lost by our children’s children that we will never live to meet. We must unite, we must fight. But that can only happen after the malignancy is removed.

      Wayne LaPierre must go.

      • Kane August 14, 2020, 10:50 am

“And don’t think the anti-2A groups are not aware of this. They see the weakness, the collapsed common front.”

Right, and what have you seen that convinces you that the charges are legitimate? Please include the sources.

        Wayne LaPierre must go!

    • George Quinn August 14, 2020, 10:36 am

The NRA needs ME….Ain’t much more to it. You did what you could, Wayne…now go home and play with your grand kids….No back talk…..NOW.

    • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:14 am

EXACTLY what I have been saying! Thanks!

  • Pat Bryan August 14, 2020, 7:53 am

However, if the allegations in the complaint are proved true, all of these members who are now attacking the public servants who have brought the complaint against the NRA will have proved to have been willing dupes. So much of right-wing dog whistles have no substance behind. If Obama had intended on confiscating your guns, he would have done it before 2010. He had no such intent. However, the very idea was a big coin-grabber for the NRA.
Gun owners have been led by the nose down a political path straight to fascism based on the NRA’s confiscation lie.
Gun owners have been duped into giving money to the corrupt and voting for the corrupt based on the dog whistle of “gun confiscation”. The NRA wallowed in so much money that its officers suffered trying to spend it all. In their arrogance, the NRA laundered millions of Russian money to elect right-wing politicians who would mouth “gun confiscation” lies to get your vote further Russia’s interests.
I would not be so fast to defend the NRA if I were you. You might end up completely embarrassed when the truth comes out in court

    • SD DENTON August 14, 2020, 8:12 am

So tell me genius, just how would an armed America benefit Russia? You’re nothing but a left wing troll. Wayne was wrong, I’ll give you that, but to dissolve the NRA would be a huge blow to gun owners.

      • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:16 am

        CORRECT AGAIN, Mr. Denton!

    • deanbob August 14, 2020, 8:13 am

If you love a woman and plan to marry her, do you say, “In 4 days I will fundamentally change the person you are to be whom I want you to be.”? Well, that was exactly what Obama did 4 days before his inauguration! If he loved the USA, he would not have set out on that path to “fundamentally transform America”.

If Obama could have confiscated guns, he would have – make no mistake. He knew he could not ignore the second amendment and the facts. The facts that the increased gun ownership was inversely proportional to the FBI reported violent crime statistics.

Obama, Eric Holder and leftist politicians cajoled and coerced credit card companies to stop many gun related transactions – completely ignoring the second amendment.

    • DavidInCO August 14, 2020, 10:34 am

You are either willfully ignorant, dishonest or downright brain damaged if you can’t see the literal attempts at gun confiscation going on around the country. People like you are barely worth replying to. Yet, I cannot keep my “pen” quiet. And… you apparently think that any vote for a republican is in support of Russia? I’m leaning toward brain damaged.

      • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:19 am

I Agree with the Brain Damaged!

    • Dave Emery August 14, 2020, 1:57 pm

I’m sorry but you sound like a gun grabbing troll. So we should relax and the “false” gun confiscation rhetoric even though Kamala Harris is for forced buy backs. Forced means confiscation and you can’t buy what you didn’t sell.

      • Christopher Chason August 15, 2020, 9:19 am

        You have it right, Dave!

  • Greg Buchel August 14, 2020, 7:45 am

    THANK YOU, WAYNE.

Thank you, Wayne La Pierre. You have succeeded where many others have failed. You, singlehandedly, have brought the National Rifle Association to the brink of destruction. You have given the anti-gun movement in the US the ammunition it needs to dissolve our great Association.
You are innocent until proven guilty, that is your right in the US. I stand by you in defense of that right. However, after reading the litany of financial abuses that you and three others are accused of, it is difficult to believe that all are false and inaccurate.
As a Benefactor Member of NRA, I have followed these allegations with interest since they first surfaced some time ago. Now they have come to head. We shall see what the evidence shows. I have read the available financial statements and legally required government filings. I have observed the decline in assets and the increase in liabilities. The allegations seem to be in line with the numbers I have seen, even though numbers themselves can be misleading.
I have seen the decline in membership from the recent 6 million members to the current 5 million. Others must have seen what I have seen. The malfeasance, mismanagement and lack of fiduciary duty is apparent even without the lawsuits.
Wayne, it is time for you to step down from EVP/CEO of NRA. You have done enough damage. Your staying will further damage the organization, possibly beyond repair. Please have the decency to resign.
The board of directors must step in if Wayne refuses to resign. It is their duty to protect the association. DO YOUR JOB!

  • Eric R August 14, 2020, 7:34 am

I received this plea from Wayne earlier this week begging for money to defend the NRA. As I have done with ever other request from the NRA, I wrote “not one more penny until Wayne resigns” and sent it back.

That same day I received a survey from the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) to be used to help in the effort to protect our rights and a request for support. I wrote out a check on the spot and sent it in even putting a stamp on the prepaid postage envelope to help out.

The NRA has been AWOL from the fight this entire year, more focused on self preservation than protecting our rights, while the SAF has been filing lawsuits across the country in defense ou our rights.

I hope the NRA survives all this and once again becomes the organization it once was but I’m afraid Wayne’s going to drag it into the ground. It’s a shame the board is powerless or too cowardly to see reality and cut him loose.

Please support the SAF financially as they’re now carrying the ball that Wayne dropped for the NRA.

    • deanbob August 14, 2020, 8:17 am

I too have wondered where the NRA has gone. And like you, I have been a SAF supporter for some time. SAF has retained their focus on their stated objective.

  • Kole August 14, 2020, 7:32 am

Wayne is a piece of shit thief. That was our money. He should spend the rest of his life in prison for what he did to our money. People like Wayne are why places like California never have a fighting chance against the radical left. He’s no different. Drain the NRA swamp. Until then kiss my ass I’ll never rejoin until he and his cronies are out. They need a bad out.

    • Rio August 14, 2020, 9:54 am

Just what the deep state wants, divide and conquer! They see blood in the water and are going for the final BLOW! We need the NRA, dont think for a moment they arent doing anything. STAND united patriots. Dont fall for their hit pieces.

  • Lawrence Wilder August 14, 2020, 7:29 am

For quite some time now I have been responding to telephone solicitations from the NRA by saying I would add to my membership or outright donate to the NRA when they got rid of LaPierre and stopped buying those Chinese trinkets they use to entice people to become members. Seems like there are many who feel the same way. Why aren’t they listening??

  • Michael Larsen August 14, 2020, 7:04 am

When Wayne and Marion are gone, I’ll consider supporting the NRA again. Until then? GLWT lawsuit. There are other pro-2A orgs out there that don’t abuse their member’s funds, and they’re the ones that get my support.

  • John Bennett August 14, 2020, 6:29 am

I think Indiana would be the perfect state . Central located and Red leaning state would welcome the NRA with open arms. Minus Wayne of course. You should not have misused or money and took advantage of your position several times. That’s why I let my membership lapse and will gladly rejoin when Wayne resigned

  • Andrew Ling August 14, 2020, 6:29 am

America and NRA are synonymous. At least, in my books. I understand that the greed to be one of the human weaknesses. Wayne is human, he is no saint when it comes to money and power. But I will say this. NRA is larger than Wayne or NY or just about any other organization that stands for the good of the citizenry. I am hoping that Wayne will still lead NRA to defeat the NY AG suit to shut us down. I certainly don’t want to see anything diminishing our 2nd amendment rights. What will American do if we lose this freedom? I just can not see it happening. We have stand together to defeat the NY AG’s suit.

    • Jay August 14, 2020, 7:08 am

Andrew, you don’t look to shady leaders to get you out of the bad situation they got you into.

      • Chuck October 9, 2020, 11:08 am

        Well said.

    • michael August 15, 2020, 4:55 pm

Have you seen any gun buy back programs lately ? lol I’d be willing to bet with all the gun sales I don’t have much to worry about for a while. Besides all out WAR. They can only take what you let them.

  • Seagull August 14, 2020, 6:25 am

The chickens have come home to roost. Wayne enjoyed high living while begging for more and more money to push right wing political ideas which had little to do with the Second Ammendment.

    • Scott Kitzerow August 14, 2020, 7:29 am

NRA has to survive. No choice. Open in another state, different name. Reopen like bankrupt companies do.

      • Tyrone Greene August 14, 2020, 4:01 pm

“NRA has to survive. No choice.” Wrong, the NRA as it currently is SHOULD NOT survive. The 2nA existed before the NRA came to pass and it will continue to after the NRA as it currently is ceases to be. Why, because American Patriots will see to it. As an organization that has been corrupted isn’t too big to let die on the vine, so too is the current NRA. WLP & company needs to go, the sooner the better….

    • Mel He August 14, 2020, 7:35 am

I have been an NRA Member, off and on, for over 35 years. I do not care what, if any, special perks the CEOs may have taken for themselves. The power they have wielded against POSs the likes of that ghetto trash, Latitia James, and her “John” Andrew Cuomo, is PRICELESS!

Do you think for one second, that POS Latitia does WASTE Tax payer money every day, having her nasty ass “decorated”? You are paying for her wigs to cover her nappy head, the 4 inch long overpriced fake fingernails, her leg and armpit hair to be groomed, high dollar 24- hour security detail, her and her family’s surplus Watermelon and Fried Chicken, $2000 dresses and pants suits….and 100 to 1 her whole family now has brand new $80,000 Mercedes Benz’s to drive!

She needs to be a victim of black on black crime in the Police Defunded streets of New York City!

      • Easy Eddie August 14, 2020, 11:22 am

Indeed. Letitia had only one plank in her campaign platform – see Trump and his family and associates put in jail. Every day I wake up and thank God that I no longer live in NY.

      • Clayton Slade August 14, 2020, 11:40 am

Mel, tell us what you really think. Stupidity like your post does not help anything, but reinforces certain stereotypes about gun owners. Of course, you are a troll, and trying to spread descension within the ranks.

  • Mauser6863 August 14, 2020, 6:23 am

Wayne needs to go, now. On the way out the door, perhaps you could pay back all the money you misappropriated to yourself, friends and family. The NRA was not founded to be your personal “Piggy Bank”. They need to kick out Marion Hammer and her crew too, revoke their memberships and ban them from the organization.

It is unfortunate that a corrupt prosecutor is civilly suing the NRA, not on behalf of the membership, but for her own purposes and that of her masters. What should have happened is that Wayne and the other 4 named people, should have been criminally prosecuted and forced to make restitution to the NRA Organization.

Really the Federal Government and the IRS need to step in and prosecute these individuals for actual criminal wrong doing, thereby sweeping aside this silly civil suit.

    • SD August 14, 2020, 8:22 am

Mauser, your suggestion makes too much sense for politicians to follow

  • Bones August 14, 2020, 6:21 am

Well wayne,.. its hard to argue to the so called “elites”,media and regular citizens that your organization is a non profit as Huge amounts of capital are accumulated by cronies at the top of the nra.. I knew as a teenager those cheaps gifts you sent me were junk and your whole program was just a marketing scam! Thats when i realized i wasnt gonna waste my money on the nra… all philosophy aside.. I never did need the nra.. just my own balls and brains… good riddance!!

  • Troop Emonds August 14, 2020, 5:17 am

I’m a life member, every time the NRA calls asking for money I tell them not one red cent until you get rid of worthless Wayne.

Sue that corrupt idiot criminal, bring criminal charges against Wayne to recover that 64 million he embezzled away from the NRA. Oliver North is a fellow Marine Officer. He tried to topple the crooks in the upper management at NRA. Oliver North square, a square shooter.

Go after the criminal not NRA.

    • Kane August 14, 2020, 11:13 am

Remember when Oliver North was being accused of “illegal” gun shipments to Iran from the Contras? There was someone like an Andrew Cuomo pointing an accusing finger back then at North saying that this Marine was the “criminal.” Cuomo is trying to destroy the NRA sources of credit and you seem willing to believe LaPierre’s accusers. Are you certain you are NOT being misled by the enemies of the 2A?

  • Vic Bailey August 14, 2020, 4:52 am

Wayne LaPierre must go and take his corrupt partners in crime. I will NEVER give another DIME to his waste and mismanagement just looking out for himself and the Hell with the NRA members. He caused all this and he should pay the price and QUIT acting like a Typical Democrat and blaming someone else for his mistakes and bad judgement. We have a lot of better people in our ranks that could step up and get this settled, But with Wayne in the way we will be destroyed and its on HIS HEAD no one else. Wayne do the right thing and step down, for the sake of our good members. The world doesn’t revolve around you Wayne, its the members.

    Vic Bailey Member #66977885

  • Rick Kaumeyer August 14, 2020, 4:44 am

This has me sick! I was a member, past tense. All I every received from the NRA was junk mail asking for more money all the time! It wreaked of James Baker and Jerry Falwell. If they would just collect their annual dues and stop wasting the money on begging for more, maybe they would not be in this place!!! Now I need to decide if this is the time to help them out again? Damn it!

    • Kane August 14, 2020, 11:24 am

BS, I get the American Rifleman magazine every month and others might get the American Hunter with outstanding articles and advertisements. The NRA is a lobby group that fights for a common cause. What do you think you the NRA should have provided to you? Stay on the side lines with your precious “Federal Reserve” notes. Just suck it up in silence when left wing tyrants make you a criminal.

  • Russell Quinton August 14, 2020, 4:35 am

Wayne LaPierre and the entire NRA board needs to go. The NRA needs to leave NY an anti-gun state. The board has failed it’s membership.

    • Murdock August 14, 2020, 10:11 am

I think Ted Nugent can stay, I’d join again if he was made leader of the NRA. Until then,im just stocking up on bullets.

  • Paul Sawitsky August 14, 2020, 4:25 am

If the POLITICIANS DEFEAT THE NRA they will go after every other second amendment organization that is in existence. Even Bill Clinton said that many POLITICIANS we’re not reelected ( DEMOCRAT’S ) BECAUSE OF THE NRA. They may have made some mistakes recently, but they generally do a great job of supporting our gun rights.

  • Kelly Lee August 14, 2020, 3:41 am

If we don’t support the NRA now I’m sure Wayne would be just fine to watch it burn. I will not support the NRA ever again until Wayne and his cohorts are gone. If the NRA dies before that, so be it! There are plenty of other great, and uncompromising, 2A organizations that NRA members would be better off donating their money to than the NRA.

  • Tyler August 14, 2020, 3:20 am

Sorry, NRA. When you oust Wayne, I’ll be the first to renew my membership.
I saw the NRA for what it really is when I saw Wayne’s reaction to having his abuse of power (and financees) called into question.
The massive house cleaning he did to ensure his position told the whole story.
The NRA negotiates our rights away over 600$ dinners with politicians.
Then you’ve got the grassroots founded groups like GoA who are using our money to pay for lawyers to challenge infringements, pay for bill drafting, and fund effective lobbyists.
You guys won’t get one damned nickel out of me, nor any tears. If Wayne truly cares about the 2A, perhaps he could take a pay cut and put the money towards lawyers. If that’s not enough, maybe he could sell one of his luxery condos.

  • Aaron August 14, 2020, 3:00 am

I’d be more inclined to listen to what Mr. LaPierre would say if he’d take responsibility for his Inaction, so kindly Sir we didn’t lose you lost the moment you started padding your Wallet. So I’d say merge GOA and NRA and find your way to the door and let someone with gall take the reins

  • Alex Warga August 12, 2020, 7:12 am

I am a Canadian and long time member of NRA. Overall the NRA has been very successful in providing the hunter protection, interesting articles, related material to support our activities, and always there in rebuttal when necessary. And certainly support in time of current need for self protection.

I don’t think that now is the time to gang up on Wayne, after all he is still the one that led the charge and arranged all the defence issues for members to continue related activities with a minimum of political interference, and was successful where others backed down.

Leave the corrective measures to the annual meeting, and now concentrate your support on protecting the NRA with Wayne. As a member it still is our organization. Splitting hairs could be disastrous at this time turmoil in the world.

    Alex

  • Mark N. August 12, 2020, 12:17 am

Yo Yo, Wayne must go! When he dumped Cox, who I respected, and then dumped anyone who questioned his atoritay, I let my membership lapse. Wayne, your calls for money money money are falling on deaf ears. You have no credibility with me, or many of the members. When you and your crooked lawyers are gone, then I will rejoin. The NRA was the number one gun freedom lobbying organization in the country, but you’ve gone and corrupted it. Wayne, have some pride, do the right thing and step down for the benefit of the organization. It is the only honorable thing to do.

    • Gary M. August 14, 2020, 2:38 am

Totally agree…Ill rejoin when Wayne steps down.

      • ARVIE TURNER August 14, 2020, 8:02 am

Wayne goes and I may come back. He is not concerned about the NRA but his own pocket book. He goes or the NRA is like an manual typewriter. WORTHLESS. I cannot count the number of times over the years that my phone has rang and the person on the other end says “is Gary there” then well maybe you can hlep me. Then the NRA spiel. Always use a shadow # on the caller id like a lot of other shady companies. Cannot trace them.

    • Joe Wells August 14, 2020, 5:31 am

      2nd that!
Wayne needs to resign immediately, the board needs new leadership in place to change the corporate “climate” so we can focus on the upcoming election. The lawsuit is diffused if the NRA demonstrates that it is willing to clean up its act!

  • Jim V August 11, 2020, 10:16 pm

Don’t be fooled by the clown leadership in NY state. The NRA needs a restructuring. Tell them to get their (our) financial act together and bring all of us members back to upholding the 2nd amendment period!

    • Bill August 14, 2020, 7:26 am

My personal beliefs is that WLP has set this destruction up working closely with his communist handlers in the democrat party. He has followed precisely their template for ruining every city and state they infest. Think about that. He certainly acts like a democrat.

  • BobbyO August 11, 2020, 8:11 pm

I’ve been a member of the NRA for years. I agree with President Trumps comment. Move the NRA to Texas.
I also think all the gun manufacturers in gun unfriendly states would be better off getting out, no matter the cost. Most of those states are bankrupt anyway. Leaving would just finish them off a little quicker.

  • SIGO August 11, 2020, 3:03 pm

LaPierre and his minions wasted millions of the NRA’s money with their corruption and frivolous spending. Now they want us members to give him a bailout. Maybe LaPierre should go into politics. His leadership style is very popular in many cities and blue states.

  • joeyj August 11, 2020, 2:58 pm

Wayne, why would the NRA leadership ever incorporate, or stay there, the NRA in enemy country like NY? Wayne, you and the Board, have become obstacles to the NRA mission. Time to career die. You breached the NRA membership trust. Even if the NRA organization dies with you, the 2A will live on. The 2A is the American patriots……not a corrupt leadership organization. Tell Bubba how you like it when that prison door clanks shut forever.

  • Jim E Groat August 11, 2020, 12:06 pm

If Wayne steps down I will contribute to saving the NRA.
If the NRA dies it is his doing.
His mismanagement and the board’s misuse of funds made the suit possible.

  • Paul August 11, 2020, 11:59 am

I call these lawsuits blatent uses of taxpayer money and the politicians, lawyers, judges should be held accountable and prosecuted to include full restitution of the money spent!!! The government should not be allowed to commit crimes the way they do.

    • Andrew Ling August 14, 2020, 6:36 am

Who is going to prosecute these power abusers? That is the question. Politics is always about the power.
People drunk with power and money careless about the other 95%. After all, they own just about everything that is tangible. NRA will have the power(Money is the correct term, here) to stop the NY suit. I hope the majority of NRA members see through this. Wayne has a change to redeem himself.

  • MICHAEL SMITH August 11, 2020, 10:31 am

Amen! I do not think I could have said it better.

  • paul R reinke August 11, 2020, 10:28 am

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON WITH THE NRA AS IT RELATES TO WAYNE BUT WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING AND GET OUT OF NY AND REVAMP THE NRA TO GET IT OUT OF THE HANDS OF THE GOVERNMENT HANDS THAT WANT TO PUT IT DOWN.

    • Larry August 14, 2020, 4:05 am

You say you don’t know what’s going on with the NRA. Read the lawsuit. The leadership of the NRA is a corrupt cave of snakes. They have stolen from membership for years and now they want to bail out. Nope.

  • DIYinSTL August 11, 2020, 9:59 am

Wayne LaPierre has gone from being a champion to being an albatross. The last time the NRA called and asked for money, I told them to call back after Wayne resigns.

AG James has no right to seek dissolving the NRA but every right to prosecute the leadership and board members for any malfeasance or corruption if it has occurred.

  • Shawn Pickett August 11, 2020, 9:10 am

LaPierre and his board need to step down. There were serious allegations of financial mismanagement and out right theft over the last couple of years and people were calling for investigations and audits. LaPierre’s response? Force out the members calling for an investigation and try to sweep the whole incident under the rug. At this point, his actions made/make him look guilty regardless of the truth, the only way to save the NRA is for him to step down and a FULL audit and investigation needs to be done to prove or disprove these allegations.

  • TexDad August 11, 2020, 8:58 am

This lawsuit wouldn’t get traction if the board would have denounced Wayne and ousted him like the members have called for for years now. This is not the first time he’s used this “lose me and lose the 2A” appeal to the members before.

Wayne, you have all but ruined our association, and now it’s existence is at stake. Leave.

  • Michael Givens August 11, 2020, 8:20 am

I don’t understand why the NRA doesn’t flip New York the bird and move to Texas. Sure, it’s not going to be an easy thing to do from a legal perspective, but as long as NRA stays in NY those assholes are profiting from it. I’ve been a life member since ‘71 and I think the NRA in Texas or some other real American state makes a lot of sense and would be something all of its members would be proud of!

    • Kent August 11, 2020, 12:25 pm

Gotta agree with ya 100% … Texas would be excellent for the NRA Headquarters

      • John Bennett August 14, 2020, 6:28 am

      Vic Bailey Member #66977885

    • mike August 14, 2020, 9:53 am

What they are really talking about is where the papers were first filed, the NRA headquarters is in northern virginia outside of washington dc. I don’t think that incorporating in texas or anyplace else will change where the headquarter will be located.

  • David Bradford August 11, 2020, 8:08 am

    Dear Mr. LaPierre,

Make no mistake, I and many other long standing NRA members hold you personally responsible for this current action being taken against the NRA. You loaded the weapon, handed it to NY AG Letitia James and dared her to pull the trigger. You are not the NRA, the members are. You have had every opportunity to set things right and do what was best for the NRA and it’s members and not yourself, yet you refused. Your obstinance, greed and attitude that if you can’t have it, no one can has put the NRA in mortal peril. All this, Sir, is on your head.

    David Bradford
    NRA member # 219123888

  • Rick August 11, 2020, 8:07 am

No mention of the (alleged) mismanagement. Hmmmm.

  • anonymous4goodreason August 11, 2020, 7:56 am

If Wayne steps down I will contribute to saving the NRA. If it dies it is his doing. His mismanagement and misuse of funds made the suit possible and he needs to live poor and destitute.

  • Ricardo Riostirado August 11, 2020, 7:39 am

Wayne LaPierre and his board of minions are the root cause of the problem. Wayne LaPierre gave himself and the board full power over everything and failed to listen and care for gun owners and members.

Now LePierre is making appeals to NRA members, they will be fools if they fall for his crying and begging. The damage is done and is because Wayne LaPierre and the board of incompetence. I would not support or donate a penny to the NRA until Wayne LaPierre and the current board is abolished and the NRA is back to its original mission statement.

  • Rick August 11, 2020, 7:04 am

NRA want to continue? Then kick Wayne LaPierre out… get new leadership and rebuild from the top down.
Wayne LaPierre Talks a big story, while he continues to live off all money.

  • Bobs your uncle August 10, 2020, 11:02 pm

I joined and took the NRA hunter safety course in 1958, over the years I’ve enjoyed the articles in the Rifleman magazine, mostly the articles about historic firearms, many of which I used before they were historic, I’ve given memberships as gifts to friends, one friend had his firearms covered after a theft. I learned to reload from Col. Towsend Whalens book. Thanks NRA!

    • Paul Sawitsky August 14, 2020, 4:28 am
