Simply place the adapter into your AR-15 magazine well, pop in a standard, double-stack Glock magazine and you’re lower is good to go.  As the sales pitch reads, “Just plug and play.”

  • Takes Glock Mags
  • Includes one 10-round ETS brand magazine
  • Price: 169.95

Mag Adapter Makes AR Lower 9mm Compatible - No Gunsmithing Required - SHOT Show 2018

It is made of 6061-T6 Aluminum.

I only got to fondle the unit for but a minute.  But it seemed pretty sturdy.  The magazine locked into place with no fuss and no play.  The adapter is made from 6061-T6 Aluminum.  Built in the good old USA.  Summerville, SC, to be exact.

Operationally, the adapter has a built-in mag release.  Swapping out mags is quick and easy.  The unit also has a feature that allows the user to hold the bolt open after the last round is discharged.

If everything is as good as advertised, it would appear that converting to 9mm has never been so easy.  Well, you’ll still have to swap out the upper components.  But in terms of your lower, this is a piece of cake.

The pricing on the adapter is $169.95.  Look for it to be available in the next month or so.  For more information, visit the American Tactical website.

Definitely plan on getting one of this out to Clay for a full review.  So stay tuned.

How does the mag release ? What does the metal pin on the bottom do ? Glock mags in a m16 9mm using a Glock 19 as a backup gun ! Cost more than a colt style 9mm mag well adapter for the m16 ,BUT COLT STYLE 9mm mags cost more than Glock mags !

    I bought this adapter:
    https://promagindustries.com/tools-for-firearms/792-pm237b-ar-15-m16-9mm-magazine-quick-change-adapter-block.html

    from here(for $55 after shipping):
    https://vizardsgunsandammo.com/pro-pm237b-ar15-9mm-quick-change-blk/

The only drawback is that it uses Colt magazines.
Hopefully they’ll make a Glock(or other) version in the near future.

A little on the pricey side. I have a Colt pattern adapter that I modded a little for easier install/removal. I keep looking for a Glock version, but at this price this isn’t it.

This was a short article and their website doesn’t have any more description. If you have trained with standard ARs for years and you hit the AR mag release to do a mag change won’t the adapter fall out? There was nothing mentioned about a positive lock. Magwell adapters are perfect for a registered SBR lower. One lower and any possible caliber upper. I have a KAK, colt pattern, and recently switched to a Torkmag, Glock pattern to use the same mags as my sidearm. if you just want a PCC build/buy an AR9. They are on the right track. Glock mags are the way to go and the market is wide open the Torkmag is fully functional but not this simple to swap. If it doesn’t have a positive lock that would be a fatal flaw.

Good idea, but not all of us have Glocks or 9mms.

    • mauser6863 January 30, 2018, 9:16 am

Yeah, they should have focused on less common calibers and magazines. Maybe an adapter for Nagant revolver cartridges. Serious;y????

  • jonathan henry January 30, 2018, 8:39 am

But it would be really nice to go to the range with one lower

  • Mark January 30, 2018, 8:30 am

I picked up a “torkmag” adapter for $65 that is a two piece design that holds in place with 2 set screws. I was skeptical at first but it worKsc just as well as my dedicated 9mm lower. I have fired at leat 1000 rounds down range with only approx 10 hiccups, the firat few most likely my fault with the learning curve. The trade off is you get to use the standard AR mag release and the look of a standard lowe but the mags need a small modification, a small piece of polymer is cut away. This has no effect on the use with any of my other guns that utilize glock mags. However, in my opinion it is better to build a dedicated PCC lower if you have the money, if not this is a great solution.

Cool idea, but you could get an entire, fully-built PSA 9mm lower for that price…

    • Jat January 30, 2018, 7:15 am

Agreed Connie, and a 80% dedicated 9mm lower is under a hundred dollars in many places. It would seem manufactures would want a lower price point to sell as many as possible especially since these adapters are many and varied already!

    • Flep Vandergaard January 30, 2018, 8:18 am

Yes, but your PSA 9mm lower wouldn’t have LRBHO, or the ability to switch to 5.56 standard profile. It’s always good to have options. Either way, you still have to have a 9mm upper.

    • jonathan henry January 30, 2018, 8:38 am

I was thinking that same thing .

    • Brandon January 30, 2018, 8:40 am

That’s what I was thinking. Cool idea, but why even bother at that price?

    • JohnL January 30, 2018, 8:52 am

      for 15o?

    • YourMom January 31, 2018, 12:43 am

Yeah unless you happen to own a pre 86 registered lower…….9mm adapters worth a flying fuck much less with mags readily available are few and far between. I personally look forward to this product. I swap calibers/uppers a lot on my RR during a shooting outing. So not having to fuck with a Tork adapter and its hardware, un modded mags etc. This setup looks like a good solution for people in my situation…..and 169 bucks aint shit. Why are folks so damn cheap?

    • BrewNinja January 31, 2018, 10:07 am

Sure you could. But for those of us with a SBR or registered FA lower, this is worth its price easy. Ill be waiting for some reviews. Hope they come out with a 45 version also.

    • Ted March 22, 2020, 2:13 pm

However, the dedicated 9mm Ar lower is just that, dedicated to 9mm. This makes the AR lower into 9mm, and it can still be used for other calibers. One “registered lower” in a commie state can be used for multiple calibers with this option !
