In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Democrats in Congress are quietly pushing a mammoth gun control bill that would, among other things, ban “assault weapons,” mandate a license to purchase a firearm and ammunition, prohibit private firearm transfers, and effectively destroy the firearms industry.

The bill was introduced in the House in January by Georgia Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson (HR 5717) and in the Senate in February by Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren (SB 3254).

With President Trump in the White House and Republicans in control of the Senate, most federal gun control bills and policies are dead-on-arrival (with one notable exception: RIP bump stocks). But Republicans only hold a slim majority in the Senate, and national polls give presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden a 6-point edge in the presidential race.

Gun owners don’t have to worry about the “Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act” now, but if Democrats emerge victorious in 2020, the bill gives us a troubling window into what our future could hold.

“The Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act will save lives and make our country safer – without infringing on any law-abiding individual’s right to own firearms,” Johnson said in a news release issued as the bill was filed. “This comprehensive bill is a compilation of the best ideas to create a workable set of laws that will strengthen life-saving background checks, protect communities with bolstered enforcement, improve mental health services and fuel research to make guns safer.”

The bill is a monster, 112-page compendium of all the most radical gun control proposals of the last three years. Here are a few of the worst:

License to Own Firearm and Ammunition

The bill requires a federal license to own both firearms and ammunition. To be eligible for a license, the prospective owner must be 21 years of age, pass a safety course, and complete a background check.

Worst of all, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms can at any time petition a court to remove someone’s license if, among other things, there is evidence of “existing factors that suggest that the individual could potentially create a risk to public safety.” The bill does not define what those “other existing factors” might be.

Universal Background Checks

This portion of the bill requires a background check for all firearms transfers but makes exceptions for transfers between close family members. It also includes a provision, however, that prohibits transfer between family members if the transferor has “reason to believe” that the transferee

  • Will use or intends to use the firearm to commit a crime;
  • Is a prohibited person;
  • Has committed domestic violence;
  • Is subject to a protection order.

In other words, if an uncle gives a rifle to his nephew, and that nephew uses it to commit a crime, the uncle may be subject to investigation.

“Assault Weapon” Ban

The bill makes it unlawful to “import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon.” It makes an exception for those who owned the illegal weapons before the bill took effect, but it does make federal funds available to state and local jurisdiction to institute “buy back” programs.

Consumer Product Safety Commission

This one hasn’t received much attention, but it could be among the most damaging provisions to the firearms industry.

Under current federal law, firearms are not subject to regulation by the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission. Congress specifically excluded firearms from the CPSC’s jurisdiction in 1976 because they feared that unreasonable standards would lead to the bureaucratic removal of constitutional rights. (Firearm safety is regulated by Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI)).

Gun control advocates want to transfer oversight to the CPSC to implement standards that, as one academic told the anti-gun outlet The Trace, “save lives by changing gun designs.” If that’s not a recipe for instantly banning all non-“smart guns,” we’re not sure what is.

The Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act includes a wide variety of other provisions, including:

  • requires law enforcement agencies to be notified following a firearms-related background check that results in a denial;
  • creates a statutory process for a family or household member to petition a court for an extreme risk protection order to remove firearms from an individual who poses a risk of committing violence;
  • restricts the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices;
  • restricts the manufacture, sale, transfer, purchase, or receipt of ghost guns (i.e., guns without serial numbers);
  • makes trafficking in firearms a stand-alone criminal offense;
  • requires federally licensed gun dealers to submit and annually certify compliance with a security plan to detect and deter firearm theft;
  • removes limitations on the civil liability of gun manufacturers;
  • establishes a community violence intervention grant program; and
  • promotes research on firearms safety and gun violence prevention.

The bill has been assigned to committees in the House and the Senate, and may be taken up when Congress reconvenes after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Hank Johnson is the same democrat dumbass that thought if we built a military base one one side of the island of Guam that the island would tip over because of the weight!

  • Carroll LaBove May 6, 2020, 4:13 pm

Don’t people know that guns can be obtained from most criminals for a price and care less about a license. And for as those gun controllers wake up and get real. The man was right let the killing begin I’m willing if it comes to that Well I guess you have to be politically correct to be on this site if its not what they want to hear they say that you already posted that already 🤬

Guess that’s when we show them we can use them

Whether you have a Republican or Democratic Representative, Senator, or Governor in your state, call, write, or email them about this issue, but more importantly, press them on the issue of getting corporate money and influence out of politics by insisting on publicly funded elections and strict penalties for accepting outside contributions as well as lobbying.

There is more at stake here than our right to bear arms, and while they have kept us focused on issues like this they have quietly taken away our ability to form unions, which as made it harder for many of us to earn a live-able wage, to have affordable healthcare, and a safe work environment.

Both political parties represent the interests of corporations and special interests because that’s who finances their extravagant campaigns. If you think Trump really paid for his campaign out of his own pocket, I have a bridge in New York I can get you a good deal on. While this pandemic has been drawing attention away from other issues, our president has been slashing regulations meant to protect our environment, the safety of our workplaces, and etc.

In regard to our right to keep and bear arms, contact those politicians and let them know that if they make firearms illegal, they will be placing an unjust, and undue burden on law enforcement.

The Democrats Will NOT need these bills. Since BumpStocks were banned by Executive Order, without a whimper from the NRA, I might add… actually, it kinda seemed THEY endorsed it…

This set a precedent that the President can take a leak on whatever part of the Constitution he/she desires… if they can’t get a bill, just put an Executive Order in place. Ban 11+ round magazines, with no amnesty and compensation, DONE!! Cause Trump done it to Bumpers… Take semi-auto modern sporting rifles? DONE, cause Trump done it to Bumpers… Why would we even need Congressional oversight on the mext Democrat President?? It don’t seem like Trumpers want it now on Don…..

    • Andrew May 8, 2020, 12:16 pm

That’s not entirely true. Bump stocks are attachments, and not necessary for a firearm to function; yet make alterations to the process of firing. These aren’t cosmetics or fixed features, nor are they actual firearms. These type of loves have been done by governor’s and mayors in the past. The precedent was already set. Many states like Michigan and California have already made these kind of moves with firearm parts. It was only a matter of time before a president did, and I think it has been done in the past.

Personal, I’m against most gun laws. I wanna see the NFA hughes amendment repealed, but bumpstocks is a cheap and useless gimmick to me.

Originally, I was going to post a reply to one of Vlad Tepes’ many posts in this thread, but, instead I’m going to go for a read by a wider audience. I would suggest all commenters read through the entire thread of comments, as I have, in order to try to give best food for thought to the audience.

A very brief overview of the United States’ history can be summarized as a group of very intelligent men of the day, after bloodshed to break their ties to the British Empire, sat down to craft the building blocks to solidify the rules of the country that now stood free before them.

The men were Judeo-Christian and provided the cornerstone of rights of the people of the land and the form of governance that land would have over it’s inhabitants. The “commandments” of this new Constitutional Republic in a confederation of States converted some of the 10 biblical based rules to live by into rules of self-governance.

Adding to the original document were 10 inalienable rights. There are some schools of thought on this, is it in-a-LIEN-able? Or IN-alien-able rights. I wasn’t there, and neither were you, but, based on many writings, I’m leaning towards IN-alien-able . . . but, that’s a story for another post.

Each of these rights have no more value than the other, and each complement each other in their crafting. But, all of these rights cannot be infringed, by the individual, or the collective.

No other country/kingdom/tribe/territorial governance has given as much independence and control to the people than the United States.

The forefathers stressed that in exchange for these freedoms there must be close monitoring of the governance, to ensure there is not a return to a tyrannical shift in our leadership. And part of their inalienable rights gave the power to the people to have the means to ensure tyranny did not rear it’s ugly head again.

There are two ways to cook a frog. Throw it in the boiling water and watch it work feverishly to jump from the pot, or place it in cool water and heat it slowly, and the frog swims comfortably until shortly before it is fully boiled. A more blissful end to the means for the frog. But, either way, the frog ends up cooked and eaten.

There is, besides this behemoth legislation that this article exposes, a push to form another Constitutional Convention. Some citizens believe the cornerstone the country was built upon is in need of some sprucing up and modernizing.

After all, some people don’t understand the power of the 3rd Amendment and think it’s antiquated and should be removed or replaced.

In my study of the Constitution, I have found that the 3rd Amendment is fed by the 4th Amendment, and is empowered by the 2nd Amendment. And re-dress of the grievances of violations of good ole Number 3 is protected by the 1st Amendment. They all work in concert with each other. Always.

Our founding fathers pure brilliance was to hope and pray that we’d treat their tenets similarly to the way we treat the biblical 10 Commandments. Over these several thousand years, no-one really said we should take out the 7th Commandment, and add an 11th. They are what they are. Given by a creator to a human mouthpiece to distribute to the people for adherence.

So, to those who feel that a monumental shift from our cornerstone to something else, a dabbling of something kind of close, like democracy (mob rule), or something a bit more unconventional like socialism, marxism, communism, fascism, or the like must be ready, willing and able to fight for this deep change.

BUT, fighting to adjust to a different form of governance violates the tenets of that different form. For example, socialism would require the ruling class fight the disobedient citizens for change, not the obediant people themselves. So, the socialist citizen must report the disobedient citizen up the food chain and the governors will mete out the appropriate adjustments. Same with communism. Their tenets again call for the “government” to meet the resistance.

So, to a poster like Vlad, I’m sorry if I so strongly subscribe to the Judeo-Christian tenets of our forefathers that I may have to take up arms to prevent any noticeable change to the cornerstone. But, I shouldn’t have to. Because under your proposed system, you cannot and better not own a firearm anyway, but, instead, own a means of communication to tell on me to your governance.

Which should mean, theoretically, if you win your wishes on November 3, 2020, in the near future, the new leaders will pass this proposed legislation, and open a Constitutional Convention to make gun ownership illegal, or very highly regulated.

But, then, there will be the enforcement arm of the brave new laws. You’re going to have to tattle on me, and then they will have to get someone to swing by and re-educate me. But, I’m afraid I’m not alone. I have a few million friends. So, the leaders are going to have to enlist obedient citizenry to go beyond tattle-telling and help them go door to door to reindoctrinate. Reeducate. Readjust the programming.

Vlad, and others like him, are you prepared to be enlisted, not necessarily voluntarily, to help them achieve their goals?

Are you truly ready to take up such service to your governors? I’ll be right here waiting for you to swing by. I keep a pot of hot coffee on all day long. Let’s have a cup together before I politely tell you no and ask you nicely to be about your way. Or would you prefer to try to stay that day? . . .

Joe McCarthy was right after all.

  • Nicholas April 13, 2020, 10:02 am

While I am not the only one who espouses the true nature of the 2nd amendment, and the provisions of the Constitution that would secure the RKBA, we are nonetheless a very small group that are given little attention.
There are at least 2 constitutional scholars, that I know of, who are knowledgeable as to the purpose of the Bill of Rights. One, Dr. Edwin Vieira, jr., has written numerous articles, and 4 books on the right to keep and bear arms, which tend toward the more appropriate duty.
James Madison called the Bill of Rights superfluous as the Constitution is a document of limited delegated authorities that impose a duty or restrict an act. Those who debated the Constitution were educated in history and law. They understood that tyrants may sign their name to a contract with the people, but inevitably will violate the agreement. So, in order to warn public officials that they must adhere to the original Constitution, the Bill of Rights was added. It guarantees nothing, nor does it enforce anything. The guarantee and enforcement were left to the people by the control of their branches of government; Grand Jury, Petit Jury, and “the Militia of the several States”.
The Constitution provides 3 provisions that are incumbent on the federal, and State governments. The states must maintain a militia in order to fulfill the duty required by the provisions. That militia is defined in history, law, and statute. That militia is the only recognized authority throughout the Union with the power “to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections, and repel Invasions”. Militia was mandatory for all able-bodied men ages 18 – 45. The mandatory aspect appears to be beyond the comprehension level of almost every American. Militia was never voluntary. It wasn’t then, and it can’t be today because it has definitions in statute. None of those definitions have been changed, nor can they be without a constitutional amendment.
Today’s so-called pro-2nd community insists otherwise, but you would be hard pressed to find those who deny the truth who has taken one minute to study the history and statutes regarding Militia.
The federal government violated the law when it created an “unorganized” militia, as the Constitution only delegates the authority to “organize” the militia. The states violate the law because they refuse to maintain militia, and both bodies deny the historical and lawful record of Militia. And we, the supposed advocates of the right to keep and bear arms assist in our own undoing by acknowledging and supporting the governments destruction of our most “necessary” tool to maintain “a free State”.
Eventually, we will lose the fight to keep and bear arms because of an incredible betrayal by the legal community, and an incomprehensible denial by the so-called pro-2nd community to recognize all the provisions, safeguards, and authorities surrounding the Duty that ultimately protects the right.

It’s not the Biden presidency, but rather a House and Senate controlled by the Dems.

Biden should be terrified at the thought of Kamala Harris as his VP. If he won, Harris would probably Hillary him if it looked like he would live too long; and, of course, they could always 25A him.

Glenn, here is hoping you are just being tongue in cheek with your comment. If not, and you are serious, then you have not paid attention to anything but CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the alphabet news organizations who are all the offspring of Joseph Goebbels media outlet. Pick up a book that explores the other side of any argument, if you can read.

      • kjj April 13, 2020, 3:05 pm

Right! you think duck hunting where he probably haven’t picked up a gun in 30 years is worth more to Biden than getting elected president! You are delusional!

  • Jose Ortega April 10, 2020, 10:45 pm

The bill should include the formation of LOCAL GUN BOARDS who will decide who can own a GUN AND/OR ARCHERY EQUIPMENT. THEIR DECISION MUST BE FINAL AND CANNOT BE APPEALED. ANYONE WHO HAS
AS MUCH AS A SCINTILLA OF PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT MUST BE DENIED THE PRIVILEGE OF OWNING A GUN OR ARCHERY EQUIPMENT. THOSE WHO ARE AWARDED THE PRIVILEGE TO OWN A GUN OR ARCHERY EQUIPMENT MUST PAY AN ANNUAL LICENSE FEE OF $10,000.

    • Clint W. April 13, 2020, 10:31 am

Hey Jose, why not outlaw smoking completely, it kills 500,000 folks a year with cancer directly related to it. Let’s license that. Are you a fat guy Jose? 160,000 die every year from the complications of being overweight, how about a license to buy food if you are over a certain weight? Do you cower in you basement if you feel threatened by what you read in the news? I don’t, I’ll face whatever comes along and if I need a .45 ACP or an AR to do it, I have the freedom to do so. You post makes you look like a lemming or a sheep, follow the liberal leader right off a cliff.

Of course if you are just being funny with your comment, outlining what a Democrat would normally come up with and having fun with it, OK, funny.

    • Lee Gray April 28, 2020, 4:49 pm

First of all, owning a firearm is not a privilege. It is a right that is guaranteed to us by the US Constitution.

Why do we need a panel of people to decide who gets a gun?
That’s what background checks are for.
People keep calling for tighter background checks…they do a complete and thorough investigation to your history, there is literally nothing more that can be done with background checks.
I’m not gonna put the rights that I have in the hands of people. Especially elected people.
Look at the 2016 election. The best this country could manage was trump or Clinton! Hell no I’m not gonna trust people to vote what’s best for me.

  • Andrew N. April 10, 2020, 10:42 pm

Take heed, people! “This won’t happen in our lifetime” or “Not on MY watch” sound good, but how many of you are protesting the limitations to outright bans on our Rights as guaranteed by the Constitution? Greenville, MS has cops giving $500 tickets to parishioners following CDC guidelines while trying to attend an in-your-car church service, with a cop telling the Pastor that “His Rights are hereby suspended by order of the Mayor.” Seriously? At what point do we sacrifice our freedom for feelings of safety? If WE allow this to happen, what’s the next “emergency” that we allow the Gov’t to curtail our Rights? Now they are talking I.D. cards / National Registry for “immune to the Covid-19”, “allowing” those people to return to work. Google and Apple are working on an APP that tells you if you are near a person who’s been infected by the virus. Sure, it’s “voluntary” now, but for how long? They are also talking about tracking us by our phones / devices to make sure who we came in contact with. You need to write or call your Congressman / Senator NOW and state your opposition to these measures. I already have. The number for the U.S. Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121. Follow the prompts to get to your Reps.

  • Don Tros April 10, 2020, 10:01 pm

I’ve read some of the comments. If you think that Biden will not win, you are fooling yourself. There are things going on in the background as well as 99% of non-stop media bashing Trump. Millions of “Americans” were more than willing to vote for a full fledged communist for president, so in comparison, ole Joe is harmless for them. Is he likely the worst Democrat candidate in history? Yes, but that doesn’t matter. All I can say is people better get out and vote but even then, it’s gonna be close. Voter fraud and anything else they can do to win, they will do. The Democrat party is now the most corrupt party the country has ever seen by far. And people are being brainwashed on a scale never before seen. Scary.

    • Hillary lost, get over it. April 13, 2020, 8:48 am

I’ve been trying to get sheeple to listen for 3 years. If you think the demo won’t steal back all 3 branches of government in 2020, you haven’t been paying attention. They are setting it up to make it look legit, but in the end, they don’t really care what we think. People. You better wake the heck up. Why would they spend so much time putting together a gun bill that has zero chance of getting approved? They wouldn’t. They know they have it sewn up. They are only trying to get nationwide mail in voting, to make it look legit. Like I said, they don’t care in the end, if it looks legit. If this happens, the USA is one & done. Maybe that is why the United States has no role in Revelations?

  • robertw April 10, 2020, 6:01 pm

I am a disabled Vietnam Vet and I saw how Communism works. God saved my life many times in Vietnam because I stood on Psalm 91, I quoted from my little Psalm/New Testament bible. You can say what you want but God owns everything, He created everything (using man’s mind) by His Miraculous Hands or by just speaking the Word and it was so. All wisdom & knowledge comes from Him. Man has drifted from God (especially in these Last Days) that satan & his demons have taken over because they know their time is short!!

Miss Nancy Pelosi has already confessed that satan has taken over the Democratic Party and the reason they are fighting President Trump is because he stands for Right and Good. Trump didn’t have any outside help by man to take this election in 2016 because it was all planned by God. God can change the course of mighty rivers so He can change anything He wants. The only reason that you are still alive is because God is giving each one of us the air we breathe and the beats of our heart. He blesses us with the clothes on our back, food on the table, the cars you drive, and the roof over our head!! All good things come from God!!

God was with our forefathers that founded this Great Nation and established the Laws for us & this land!! When as a soldier I took my Oath to defend & protect the Constitution of the United States of America. When I was a police officer I took the same oath again and by golly I intend to stand by my oaths until they put me six foot under then I will be in a much better place “Heaven” where there is no more sickness, hate, or dying forever. YES, I am a blood bought child through Jesus Christ and adopted into God’s family and I am not ashamed to say it either!!

God put President Trump in office at this time in history to change the bad road that President Obama was taking us down. God can only “throne & dethrone Kings” when He wants too!! Get the New King James Bible and read it for yourself. THAT is the True Word of God!! He didn’t add to or take away from what He inspired Holy men by the Holy Spirit to write down everything He wanted to say!! Man keeps trying to add to or take away from the bible but He warns those who try to do that where they are going-HELL- a real place where there will be fire & brimstone that burns and torments man’s souls for Eternity!! You can laugh all you want and say there is no Hell, Heaven, or God but one day soon we will all kneel before Him and confess Jesus Christ is Lord & Savior. You can laugh yourself into Hell but you can’t laugh yourself out!!

We have the Right to own guns & President Trump is a strong supporter of the Constitutional rights for everybody!! He loves God & Jesus with all of his heart and he wants the best for America but he has to put up with the “dumb donkeys” with their lies and trying to strip America of our freedoms. The Democratic Party have been liars & thieves every since they were founded back during the Revolutionary War!! No wonder they chose the “Donkey” as their mascot for their party!! Donkeys kick, bite, and they are stubborn. Elephants are strong, smart, and never forget!! If you want to save America from a “Socialist”=”Communist” government where you have no freedoms, where you can’t worship God freely, where your kids all have to wear the same colored uniforms to school, and everyone are equal in the amount of food, money, clothing, and extras that you can buy, then if you are intelligent enough & use the brain God has given you, you will know how to vote in November!! PRESIDENT TRUMP ALL THE WAY FOR THE U.S.A.!!

By the way, travel is a RIGHT. Driving is a means to exercise that right. Just as self defense, sport, and commerce are RIGHTS and guns the means to exercise those rights. Anyone who advocates the registration of firearms should look to their local DMV to see just how that would be carried out. Long lines, bureaucratic delays, and enormous fees. Most jurisdictions are not opposed to ownership of cars (green Marxists excepted). A gun control regime will be enforced by people who don’t believe Americans should own or use firearms at all. Never concede to the government the issuance of “privileges”. Those can be revoked at the whim of the issuer. Rights cannot be revoked, only violated.

Yeah, because people like Biden, Beto, Bloomberg and Soros are just getting a bad rap from agent provocateurs working to undermine our democracy and push Trump. Good thing you see through it all. Next do an expanded list of your creds so we can all admire you from afar.

      • Rick April 10, 2020, 10:45 pm

LOL! Good one Kane! Agree 100%– Dems are too stupid to try and use reverse psychology. All any of these morons ever need to say is they want to ban guns, any gun and you lost my vote automatically. Nothing is more repugnant than a hypocrite– Biden with his armed protection detail complete with full-automatic firearms!!

      • JOHN A April 11, 2020, 10:45 am

        Well said.

    • Jim April 10, 2020, 5:26 pm

Lets see….Every yahoo that ran for the Dem nomination pushed for the same Second amendment killing garbage….”Gun Confiscation” “AR bans” …….Not BS, they will try….What they miss is the gun that they want to ban, is the one that 2.5 million veterans since first Gulf War, prefer as their gun of choice.

    • Phil Whitehead April 10, 2020, 9:22 pm

No, it is not. Biden has said as much in public several times and is planning, if elected, to put that moron in charge of gun policy. You couldn’t be more wrong.

    • Chris April 11, 2020, 1:18 am

I really do’t care what your past is or your credentials are, you’re an idiot. The dems/liberals have been trying to push for more “gun control” anti 2nd amendment bullshit for decades. Don’t tout your past as a resume as to why we should side with you. SHAME ON YOU! you fucking idiot.

    • rz April 11, 2020, 4:06 am

      Ken
Fake news? Really! Did you even take the time to check the link provided? Apparently not!
The bill, all 112 pages is there AND it is called the Act of 2020. Dems are expecting it will be passed following the 2020 election. NOT FAKE NEWS! Get it together Ken!

Do just a modicum of research before spouting off calling it fake news! Doubt you have served at all because if you had you would do nothing that could advance Dems antigun platform by asserting a 2nd amendment grabbing bill such as the one drafted and ready to strip true Patriots of their civil liberties is in fake news! TRUMP IN 2020!!

    • Ej harbet April 11, 2020, 11:09 am

Glad you put your true name at the bottom of your post! Almost like you signed it. You sir are fake news and should jog around a covid ward breathing deeply

    • Jim April 13, 2020, 5:49 am

      Ken:
Absolutely NOT fake news. Don’t believe me? Then look at the batch of gun control laws passed by the totally democratic control government of Virginia the last few months.

    • Steve in Detroit April 13, 2020, 7:33 am

Really? You better open your eyes to the very real threat that the next Democratic POTUS will remove the 2nd Amendment from the U.S. Constitution. By your virtue signaling we know you are a hardcore dem voter who will vote for Creepy Sleepy Quid Pro Joe and his running mate Clinton, because it’s really her turn.

  • Reticent Rogue April 10, 2020, 1:04 pm

While I agree with the sentiment that we should not have to fund any defense of out 2nd Amendment rights, I have spotted a flaw in your theory. First, most commonly owned hunting cartridges are ballistically superior to military small arms, there are thirty to fifty times more of them and those who own them are largely better educated than the average Taliban fighter, more affluent, more mobile with better communication, etc. Secondly, a large percentage of US military will not fight against their own. Third, it is virtually impossible to employ force multipliers against US citizens without a publicity nightmare and open rebellion. You might want to rethink your strategy.

  • John A April 10, 2020, 12:33 pm

Has the Demo’s thought about how many service people would resign because they do not agree with their attempt to disarm America one bill after another. Nor will the United States military be willing to murder
She what could be their brothers and sisters, their neighbors and friends or any other law abiding US Citizen. Our military would be reduced drastically. China and other Countries not friendly to America would thank the Demo’s. So continue your goal to destroy the United States with your goals. Don’t think for one minute those Countries will let you have a say in how they run America.

That’s what the Civil War is for

  • Vlad Tepes April 10, 2020, 12:27 pm

Many gun owners including myself agree with most of the provisions except banning any weapons. The current proposed bill would weed out most of the prohibited purchasers.

What is astonishing is that they forgot to include a mandatory mental competency test to get a gun license to purchase . Without that the mass murders will never be stopped. All civilized countries demand such a common sense mental evaluation test before purchase of a deadly weapon. No sane person would not want this.

The bill does not include a mandatory safe storage law. We have annually 1,300 children who die needlessly every year because many shiftless , uneducated gun owners leave loaded weapons out for children to pick up and accidentally or on purpose kill themselves with.

    • Walleye April 10, 2020, 4:10 pm

Hey Vladimir – Have you ever read the Bill of Rights? There are NO conditions or requirements for a “mandatory mental competency” test before exercising any them… Especially the 2nd.

As for safe storage requirements, a gun that is locked up is a useless gun when needed in an emergency. How a law-abiding gun owner secures (or doesn’t) his firearms is up to him. There are many things in one’s home that are more dangerous to children than firearms: Medications that look like candy, illegal drugs, alcohol, household chemicals, fall hazards, hand tools, etc… The list is endless.

    • Phil Whitehead April 10, 2020, 9:25 pm

Name ONE country that mandates a mental health test before owning a firearm. ONE.
Either you can own one, or you can’t.
You, sir, are full of bird droppings.

  • rob April 10, 2020, 12:09 pm

The second amendment follows the first amendment for a reason, think about it. Read about the American Revolution especially about the foot solders who fought it. For them it was about primarily starvation, disease, and sacrifice but most were fighting for what they believed in. Many especially in the middle years of it believed they were fighting for the very thing that is listed in the Bill of Rights. So, if you believe that you have those rights as a citizen of the United States and are willing to defend them then you are defending all of them if only one is under assault.

    • jack Harang April 12, 2020, 7:28 pm

the Revolutionary War was fought to break free from British Rule and Taxation. beginning with the Boston massacre in 1770
the Revolutionary War ended Sept. 3, 1783
the first U.S. Congress met in 1789
The Constitution of the the U.S. was ratified in June of 1788
the Bill Of Rights ( the first 10 AMENDMENTS, that does include the second Amendment,) were ratified (voted on and passed) December 15 1791. without going into confusing higher math that’s roughly 21 YEARS after the beginning of the American Revolution AND 8 YEARS AFTER the end of the Revolution and 3.5 years after THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA had been passed.
I doubt seriously that any soldier (Colonial,French or Spanish * and yes we could not have been victorious without them) gave much thought to the right to keep and bear arms, since all of had at least one.
In fact the first time the U.S.Supreme Court ever ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual’s right to own a gun was in the Heller decision in 2008.

      good reading might include:

The entire Constitution Of The United states of America including ALL OF THE AMENDMENTS.

      THE DECLARATION OF Independence.

Every single time that there is a bill on gun control I hear the same ol shit. You hear the Dems talk about common sense and keeping the community safe, you hear that we don’t need our guns you hear about gun violence prevention. From our side you hear the same ol repetitive shit. It’s funny to me how everyone thinks they are some sort of constitutional scholar. That everyone one knows everything about the Constitution and more so the 2A. Here’s the thing. Knowing the Constitution means absolutely fucking nothing. The other side DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT! Guy’s stop telling everyone and yourself that the 2a is protected. Talk is cheap. It’s bargain basement cheap. Thiy is our fault. Talk talk talk talk. Do something. Fight for once. Don’t talk fucking fight. 20 thousand peaceful protesters in Virginia. A fucking joke. You should if torn the capital building down. Should of been violent. To the capital. Stop talking. Get your guns and start a war. I will fight! Will you ? The Constitution is toilet paper to the left and we are the shit that will be flushed away if you don’t bring violence to them. The court system has failed and it will continue to. The supreme Court is scared to take a gun case. They refuse to help. Figure it out before it’s too late. It’s almost too late now. Sorry I’m a dick, just tired of hearing the same BS over and over and over with no action. People like clay should be leading a revolution with his training. Not writing articles.

  • James M April 10, 2020, 11:00 am

Now here comes the mail from the NRA begging for money to stop this bill. Then using it for fancy clothes and vacation homes, etc. If anyone thinks for one minute our politicians, both sides, won’t sell you out for their own benefit you have been drinking the kool-aid all along. Look what happened to bump stocks, boy that was easy for everyone of them to get on board with. So Vote, Get involved, and quit your brave talk of revolution. Some of us know the tools our military has at it disposal and we wouldn’t stand a chance no matter how many 50cals you own and cans of tannerite you hoard.

    • JoeUSooner April 10, 2020, 11:55 am

      James… think again.

First, posse commitatus forbids the use of the military to enforce domestic law (such as anti-riot statutes). Second, the military consists of citizens (whose families live in our communities)… and very few of those citizen/soldiers would be willing to open fire on American citizens – under virtually any circumstances, but certainly not at the behest of a tyrannical government order.

      • James McMurray April 13, 2020, 9:38 am

If you think for one minute the majority of the US Military won’t do what they are told you definitely don’t understand the training they go through. Think about it, given an opportunity to be on a side, just which side do you think most folks would chose? Your few rifles and your truck, or an Abrams and a MK19 grenade launcher. It has already happened in this country, the national guard opened fire on college students at Kent state.

    • Altoids April 10, 2020, 12:03 pm

With that kind of advantage, the US Military defeated the Taliban, who had nothing but donkeys and rusty AK47s, in just a few days, right?

      • mikeb April 10, 2020, 12:42 pm

Blame that on Washington and the “mother may I shoot” attitude.

      • James McMurray April 13, 2020, 9:44 am

The Taliban didn’t have nice houses and fancy trucks, they have a tradition of fighting, they are willing to drive their car full of explosives into a check point. They had quite a few choices in arms besides their rusty AK’s. Mostly they didn’t even have the means to be an armchair soldier or a computer to help them be brave. They had to actually fight to prove their bravery. Most people in this country will cower in the face of authority backed by force, the rest will just get mopped up.

I agree with almost everything the other commentators have said, but all this talk is about “after we lose the election” . We need to not lose and we need to make that is our first fight. All of us know people who think like we do but won’t bother to vote because Trump is a for sure winner.

I went to bed the night of the last election believing that my side was doomed and the war was really about to start. When I found that Hillery wasn’t going to be the next president I sat for I don’t know how long with my mouth open. I think a lot of Demo voters stayed home because she was a sure thing so they didn’t needs to bother voting. How many of us are now thinking that about Trump?

There are several things we know to be fact. The dead will be voting for whomever is the actual demo candidate, We know for a fact they will be hauling in every wino they can dig out of the alleys and hauling them to register and to vote for their man (or woman). We know that every illegal they can get a drivers license for will be voting.

I’m pretty sure our side won’t be doing those things so what can we do?

We can start right now making sure everybody we know is registered to vote. We need to know who might not bother because it’s too much trouble such as the elderly or the handicapped. We need to be ready to provide transportation to get them to the polling place. Take that day off from work, burn a vacation day if need be.

How many young folks do you know that have just turned old enough to vote and likely haven’t registered to do so?

I’ve used the “Civil War and Revolution” words as most of us have, but thats the war that comes after the November battle. Lets fight to win that battle before we think war.

The biggest reason this will be the battle of my life time is because whoever wins this fight wins the ability to control the SCOTUS. The left is scared sh*tless that Trump will win and likely be replacing as the very least one and maybe as many as four justices.

Think of a SCOTUS that heeds the words of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights! That could save our country for the next 40 years.

God Blessed America and our forefathers gave us the best possible form of government. It’s up to us to keep it.

Unfortunately, I think it’s only a matter of time that people moronic enough to vote for Democrats outpace those of us with Republican ideals and values. When that happens, you’ll see America quickly follow the failed footsteps of communist principles. Banning guns is and always has been high on the list of all communist regimes – it’s the only effective way “we the people” can even hope to fight back. Our founding fathers knew this, those helpless in Cuba and North Korea know this, as do those that are scheming to take control of America (Democrats). Look at the past 100 years and one thing is clear: once communists (Democrats) take control, the only way to take it back will be bare (empty) handed.

  • MikeyD April 10, 2020, 10:28 am

I’d sell my semiautomatic “assault weapons” to a state or local jurisdiction as long as it was willing to offer me what I considered fair market value for those firearms. But screw it if that meant pennies on the dollar, which would likely be the case.

At the same time, I don’t believe any metal/polymer/wood object that goes bang is worth dying for. Yes….for the non-violent protesting against the forceful taking thereof by the government. But “……from my cold, dead hands”, not my thing. I support the 2nd Amendment, but it’s simply not something I’d give up my life for so I could posthumously be holding on to an inanimate thing.

And yes, I get it. I’d actually be dying for the belief in the right to own firearms and not the firearms themselves. But in the face of bureaucratic authority with infinitely more firepower than I could ever possess, I’d choose life over rigor mortis.

The problem with your line of thinking is that it is just keyboard bravado. Any person in full control of his mental faculties is well aware of the fact that the new laws will be so sever that if you do not comply you will eventually be caught and lose your home, bank account , custody of your children, your job and you will be incarcerated and fined. In other words people will comply just as they have done in all of the foreign countries that have passed such laws. With today’s security cameras in use by the millions and today’s computer and cell phone tracking and the black box in your car you are monitored day and night 24 hours around the clock and 365 days a year. There is no such thing as personal freedom even in Capitalvania, that is a thing of the past. You are a ward of the State and you have no say in the decisions the government makes as the Congressmen are basically appointed for life and are controlled by the upper 1 per cent of the extremely rich. You will comply with the laws or be incarcerated its just that simple.

In reality we have a worker shortage and the history not only of the U.S. but of all countries proves that immigrants and refugees invigorate an economy and make it prosper , its historical fact. The human race is hardwired to fear anyone who speaks with an accent, has a different religion or a different shade of skin. Its a very good case for demanding we change our educational system to mimic the educational system of most liberal colleges. Fear of “the other” leads to hate and hate leads to mass murder. It has been one of the driving forces of all of our mass murders which then brings on more public demand to ban all weapons. In short the gun owner by opposing strict background checks and a higher level of education for children turns out to be his own worst enemy and only insures the future banning and restrictions on weapons.

I think the last few comments above misinterpreted Josh O. I think he was acknowledging the comment above by Scott West and that is let’s get on with this, have the fight, put down the gun control crowd now, so that his children can live in peace.

In my opinion, gun rights supporters are winning over more and more Americans. Just look at what happened these last two months with the CV-19 virus. Many thousands (millions?) of Americans that did not have a gun, bought one. The average person knows that you cannot trust the government to protect us, not from looters and common criminals, and when CV-19 raised the real possibility of unrest people went out and bought their own protection. The average person knows the old saying to be true, even if they have never heard it before, “When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.”

    • Mauser6863 April 10, 2020, 10:08 am

The powers that control the Democratic Party, know they are likely to lose in the Presidential Election. The decision to once again “Buy-off” Bernie, is proof that they are deeply worried about the “Down Ticket”; congressional elections and Senate seats.

They hope that even if Democratic voters pull the lever for Trump, they want them to rel-elect their incumbent democratic congressman, etc. The media will start pushing the whole “Divided-Government” is best, therefore we need a democratically controlled house to prevent a Trump 3rd Reich, etc.

The dems look at what happened to the Communist Run Labour Party in the UK and know they could be next.

The Polls are all lies. Does anyone really believe anyone will vote for Biden???

If you said, “Yes”, then you are a “Lying Horse Faced Pony Soldier” and you should have to turn-in your AR-14. Besides, Biden likes kids, REALLY, REALLY LIkes them.

      • Vlad Tepes April 10, 2020, 1:19 pm

Trump and the Republicans are finished. They all ignored the Corona Virus which is killing thousands because they did not want to spend the money to lessen the crisis as far back as January. The economy is now a disaster and it is because the Republicans could have acted as far back as January and the American people now all know it.

The Republicans have failed to support a “livable wage” and instead have enslaved Americans by letting greed monger businessmen pay part time , minimum wages , with no benefits and no health care and no vacations forcing most American to hold down as many as 3 low wage part time jobs. Now even those jobs are gone.

The Republicans weakened Obama Care which threw and or deprived 30 million Americans of health care and drug care. We have 100,000 people a year dying because they lack any affordable health or affordable drug care. The Republicans have had decades to do something about the Health crisis and instead have become prostitutes of the crooks in the drug and insurance companies who continue to rape and bankrupt murder people every day and pay off the Republicans so they block every health care plan introduced in Congress. How Republicans are able to sleep at night defies the imagination.

The Republicans have reduced aid to education and refused to support free education. All other civilized counties have had this for decades and all other civilized countries have health care as a basic human right. Germany since 1895 under Bismark and Norway in 1900 and the rest of the Europe got it after WWII. None, I repeat none, ever went back to health care for blind greed and profit and let the insurance and drug companies bankrupt and murder innocent people.

Trump has lost the support of the majority of American citizens. He has only his hard core uneducated base who only vote for him because they think he will protect them from “the other” i.e. refugees and immigrants both legal and illegal. Little do they realize that it is the Republicans who are the ones who entice illegals to come here because the Republican businessmen use them as slave labor.

Little do the Far Right realize that immigrants lower their meat and produce bills by a factor of 4.

Immigrants and refugees do work Americans will not do.

It is historical fact that the refugees and migrants in all countries are far more likely to start a new business and be successful at it and they cannot run business by themselves they must hire additional people to help them which creates jobs and a thriving economy.

Illegal immigrants strengthen Social Security funds because they pay in but cannot retire and get Soc. Security benefits.

They also reduce the need to raise taxes at the Local, State, and Federal level because they pay in to the system but cannot get income tax refunds.

The Republicans, who are prostitutes of the NRA, have failed to stop the mass murder in this county. No other industrialized civilized country puts up with such insanity. The Republicans have not supported universal back ground checks, safe storage laws, gun licensing or mental tests for reducing crime and gun violence. A patch work of State laws enables states with lax laws to funnel thousands of illegal guns into states with strict laws making a mockery of any state gun control laws., this is why only Federally passed gun control laws work as it forces all the States to obey the same gun control laws.

In the Chicago study the average age of a gun used in a crime was 13 years old and had been through many hands and sold to individuals who could not legally own a gun. It proves how necessary universal back ground checks are. All other civilized countries have such laws and history has proven they have far less gun violence and crime than we do. More guns do not make you safe, history has proven the exact opposite.

The American people are totally fed up with the stingy, do nothing Republican controlled Senate and cannot wait to vote them out and get America moving in the direction of a civilized socialistic country with health care as a human right and preventing the weekly mass murder or our children while they are in school or our adults when they are at work.

Vote Socialist for a civilized America, the life you save will be your children’s and or your own.

        • Jon Peckat April 10, 2020, 2:13 pm

Socialism = Communism. Shouldn’t you be in Venezuela living it up in that social utopia. Funny how all these anti-gun people are out buying guns for the first time in their lives to protect themselves because the police said they have stopped arresting people and emptying the prisons. You people want control so bad you can taste and you know the only way to do it is to take the one amendment that protects the one you are spouting off with your Comrad Bernie talking points. You said it yourself. Criminals don’t follow laws. Also to other people’s assumptions that the military would be completely one sided and no other countries would step in to help patriots protect the constitution. America destroyed, the world is destroyed. People who give away liberty for security have neither.

        • Rob April 10, 2020, 4:36 pm

    • Robert April 10, 2020, 10:30 am

Are those the same polls that had Hillary winning by a landslide?? Those same polls that had Reagan losing ? 😂

    • Mike April 10, 2020, 10:42 am

      Yeah cnn polls hahahaha

      • jim April 10, 2020, 11:29 am

Every Poll. Even Fox, basically the POTUS’ mouthpiece, and never has a bad word to say; has done polls that show Trump trailing badly. I haven’t seen a recent one, but a couple of months ago they had one that showed him losing against all candidates. Biden was just the one he fared the worst against.

    • TJ Reeder April 10, 2020, 11:02 am

It depends on where the poll was taken and how it was worded. If it was taken on college campuses then sure Handy Joe is ahead, take it in East Texas and he isn’t.

Most of us remember that old joke where the Lawyer asks the defendant ” Yes or no, do you still beat your wife”. Well worded indeed. A no answers is met with “Oh, so you don’t beat her anymore right”.

      That’s how they word polls.

I personally agree with many who believe Biden will not be the actual candidate,

I believe at or just before the convention he will step aside for health reasons and the real candidate will be whomever the VP is that the DNC has already picked to take over.

I’ve heard Hillery as well as Michelle Obama, I’d say if this happens it will be Obama that they pick. Because she’s a woman (?) and Black. I’m sure there are others but those two are at the top of my list.

    • David April 10, 2020, 12:01 pm

The quote “figures don’t lie, but liars figure” should ALWAYS be taken into consideration when looking at polls! Any poll can be manipulated by the wording of the questions or the group demographics polled!

    • Floyd April 10, 2020, 1:25 pm

The same people told us Tump didn’t have a chance I don’t believe anything that the media says all propaganda!

  • Markk April 10, 2020, 9:12 am

For those of you who are “hoping they’ll pass it” so that we can “get it over with” and “live in liberty and peace”, you should remember that our system was designed to avoid the necessity you’re toying with — to avoid the bloody revolutions and civil wars that marked European (and other continents’) history for centuries. The Founding Fathers gave us a system that permits us to defeat bad ideas when they’re proposed. Unfortunately, what that also means is that we have to recognize and defeat such ideas when they’re proposed, and there’s never a shortage of stupid ideas or well-meaning but ignorant people willing to propose them. So the struggle is eternal. It’ll never be over — even if you have a second civil war. Unless you plan to establish some sort of dictatorship, there’ll always be idiots to propose this sort of mess, even after such a conflict.

Justice Felix Frankfurter wrote “Free men are always naturally on guard against dangers from without. But the real danger to a free people is from within — from those who are well-meaning, but without understanding.”

He’s right. We must continue to fight the eternal battle at the legislative houses (and in the Courts and in the Executive offices). But we should also be fighting just as hard at the local level. Have you questioned your school board candidates about their views on zero-tolerance and arming teachers, and teaching that guns are inherently bad? How about speaking to your minister or priest on that subject? Can we really blame those who are wrong about this? They’re bombarded with anti-gun propaganda practically from the cradle to the grave. We — those of us who DO understand, need to be more supportive of those officials who share our views — not just voting for them but helping to spread their views (and ours). Get out there and persuade your neighbors.

I for one will do everything I can to defeat these people, and to kill their ideas dead. But I’ll also do everything I can to avoid violence in that cause. If I’m pushed into it — if there is NO OTHER CHOICE — then it’ll come, and I’ll be prepared, along with many of us, to fight for the survival of freedom in the world. But, just getting tired and frustrated at the continuing struggle isn’t a reason to start blood running in the streets. Let’s do this the way the Founding Fathers designed it to be done.

    • T Landis May 2, 2020, 8:00 am

We Do have a constitution. Why cant politicians see it and read it. Why not go after the law breakers? “Guns” are for own protection and for sport. There will be too much blood on the streets without our Right to Bear Arms! Open your eyes people. Look at the facts of countries that do gun grabs. That’s what will happen if radialcals are elected into office. History proves it.

  • Robert Frasconi April 10, 2020, 9:07 am

They do not care one iota about the U.S. Constitution, natural rights, inherent rights, or our lives.

They mean to rule and enslave us.

    Only we can stop them.

  • Big Al 45 April 10, 2020, 9:05 am

Their ‘playbook’ NEVER changes does it?
The thing that gets me are the morons (yes, I said that) who will tell you rather vehemently that they AREN’T going to take away your guns.
But hey folks, you absolutely CANNOT fix stupid, now can you?

    • No1hunter April 10, 2020, 9:58 am

Nope, you can’t fix stupid. Heck, the Liberals will call it a disease so their voters can sit on their hands and get paid.

    • James Seeger April 10, 2020, 10:03 am

The second civil war is coming and I agree sooner the better,so we can decide this. The communists know they cannot control the people unless they are disarmed! Teach your children they are being brainwashed at school to accept Marxist ideas they don’t teach American history by design so they are ignorant as to why we have the rights we do.I call on all patriots young and old alike to prepare for what’s to come so we are victorious!

  • Rob April 10, 2020, 8:46 am

Liberty is something that has no meaning and doesn’t exist anymore:

“Liberty the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.”

  • Joe Powell April 10, 2020, 8:44 am

You have the right to your opinion, the constitution gives you that right. So why would you think that if you give up the rights it provides that your children would have peace, and liberty?

  • Steve April 10, 2020, 8:17 am

As has been said before “ from my cold dead hands” in my case that will be very true, along with my neighbors and friends.

    • Ghost April 10, 2020, 8:53 am

Amen Steve….As my relatives, friends, & neighbors.

  • Earl Haehl April 10, 2020, 7:54 am

This is of dubious constitutionality. The Second Amendment which prohibits disarming the militia, which means those capable of bearing arms, This was the definition George Mason and the Anti-Federalists used during the Ratification debates and the only definition applicable in 1791. Rule of statutory construction is that the definition at the date of enactment governs–otherwise we could change laws by the expedient of changing definition–academics and judges having a tendency to laxness in language.

Do not rely on the Suprem Court. Clarence Thomas is the only reliable Justice. Gorsuch, a descendent of the garantors of Magna Carta, and Kavanaugh have been pro Second Amendm1ment in previous decisions. One Justice does not make the Court. Ginzburg is a leftist ideologue, Breier is sloppy in his logic as id Sotomayor. Kagan has never met a regulation she does not favor.

I will likely not be around when the shit hits the fan.But ultimately this is a declaration of war against the People and i would rather not see my children and grandchildren. Soldiers, read your oath carefully.

    • Tom April 10, 2020, 10:21 am

“Persuade your fellow citizens it’s a good
idea and pass a law. That’s what democracy is all about. It’s not about nine superannuated judges who have been there too long, imposing these demands on society.”
      ~Anthony Scalia

  • RJ April 10, 2020, 7:51 am

Where is the petition advising our senators and representatives that voting citizens are against that bill and we will vote against any politician who even SUGGESTS he is voting for it? Again, the left wing politicians are for punishing the legal, honest, tax paying American while treating the criminal (who doesn’t get his firearms legally anyway) with kid gloves. These bills would only INCREASE crime since many citizens will not relinquish firearm rights and the criminals will use this to attack the unarmed.

  • Speed455 April 10, 2020, 7:50 am

These demorat polliticians are temporary and don’t know it , the Constitution is not . Dito for the previous comment…..

  • Phil Compton April 10, 2020, 7:42 am

I’d expect nothing less from the liberal Democrats and gun haters even if Biden doesn’t win the election! It’s really sad that we have to continually defend our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms and there are millions of gun owners out there that have never and will never shoot anyone or use a gun in a crime, but a comparative few offender/abusers seem to determine the radical public opinion. How about enforcing laws against such crimes and making the penalties more severe rather than try any means possible to disarm everyone. Instead, we get constant efforts to take guns away from everyone rather than addressing the fact the they are simply tools than can be properly used or misused by those that intend to do wrong. No matter what anyone thinks, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun and taking arms away from the good guys is a recipe for ultimate disaster.

As for the current push to ban “Assault Rifles,” how can an assault weapons ban do any good when the ones already sold are exempt anyway and there are millions of them out there? Do you honestly believe that even the government can go out an collect all the firearms already out there and totally disarm the public? I doubt it seriously and think it’s pretty naive to even think it’s possible. We need to think more in terms of why people do such hideous things and focus on how to prevent them from happening rather than try to take away the only thing we have to stop then once they have decided to serve their demons. In any case, a good guy with a gun is a good thing and we all need to think about that one before we allow this type of useless legislation to hinder our constitutional rights.

    • Michael April 10, 2020, 9:11 am

      It’s all about FEELINGS !

    • No1hunter April 10, 2020, 9:55 am

This is just one step. If it passes, the next step will declare all “scary black guns” illegal to own, no matter when they were bought. Then all firearms. Do you think they will stop with this Bill?????

  • deanbob April 10, 2020, 7:02 am

This bill just scratches the surface of what the left/Democrats want to do go gain more control over the citizens of the USA. If one opposes this kind of control, we must do everything we can to support those who oppse this kind of control.

  • Trekker April 10, 2020, 4:27 am

Let’s have a reasonable approach to the reasoning behind gun control. Is it because of the number of lost lives? If so why aren’t these groups going after the big killers with these new laws? With over
85K alcohol related deaths each year (fact check CDC website) why not consider imposing these same rules on the sale of alcohol? Oh wait, maybe because they like to ignore the statistics when it imposes on their indulging liberties that would simultaneously lower gun violence, jail population, rehab, auto insurance premiums & taxpayer costs for all of the aforementioned. Maybe because they would have no talking point if they were willing to have a conversation with critical thinking involved.

    • Martin Davis April 10, 2020, 8:28 am

      I totally agree,

To add to that I will Quote Thomas Jefferson -” “The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

      • Rick April 10, 2020, 11:09 pm

Excellent quote but it DID NOT come from Thomas Jefferson. Look up Cesare Beccaria (1738-1794)

    • No1hunter April 10, 2020, 10:02 am

Heck, according to the DOJ, more people were killed with a hammer than ALL the rifles, including the “black scary” one’s last year. Further, I am sure the majority of the liberals have smashed finger from trying to use a hammer!

    • I Love Liberty April 10, 2020, 12:52 pm

These gun confiscation and licensing laws will do nothing to save people’s lives. The common population being armed saves more American lives every year. All we hear about is bad people using firearms. Over 200,000 assaults, robberies and violent crimes are stopped every year in America by private gun ownership.

Gun and ammo registration will lead to eventual confiscation from the common private citizens in maybe twenty years or less.

  • Scott West April 10, 2020, 3:16 am

I wish they would go ahead and do it so we can get this over with. Either way when they sow that seed it’ll be watered in blood.

  • JoshO April 10, 2020, 3:00 am

I hope they pass it. Let’s get on with it already so that my children may know peace and liberty.

    • Robert April 10, 2020, 7:44 am

You think taking the firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens are going to bring you peace and liberty?
All it will do is make the US a more violent place as the non law abiding clowns will be the only ones with firearms and they dont care who they hurt. Its call checks and balances as the more law abiding citizens that have firearms the less chance of crimes being committed. Between the inept people with firearms (ones on mind/mood altering drugs which is most of your mass shootings) and the government running false flags for people like you to believe, the folks that will help in cutting down on crime which is the law abiding citizens will have their rights removed. Face it in the long run driving a car which has more deaths due to DUI is a PRIVILEGE where owning firearms is a RIGHT. If you dont know the difference please feel free to look it up.

    • Rob April 10, 2020, 8:14 am

You’re a moron, if you want to live in a anti-2nd ammendment country move to new zealand. Or better yet, move to north korea where theres no 1st ammendment either. People like you are too stupid to know better and all you’re doing is breeding more stupidity.

    • jww April 10, 2020, 8:23 am

Chicago already has these same laws and it has done nothing to stop the violence. Their repressive laws didn’t work and the state response is blame the “neighboring states”. Criminals will have guns irregardless if the law, by definition they are law breaking not law abiding citizens. If you are ever in a situation where you’re threatened what’s your plan to save yourself and your family? Give up and hope for the best? Call the authorities and wait 20-30 minutes? Fall to your knees and beg?

      • Vlad Tepes April 10, 2020, 2:51 pm

You answered your own question without even realizing it. The Chicago study proved how useless state gun control laws are when states like Ohio who have almost no gun control laws funnel thousands of guns into Chicago. The Chicago Study proved the guns used in crime were on average 13 years old and had passed through many hands and into the hands of people prohibited from even owning a gun. This is exactly why we need a Federal passed Universal Background check law coupled with a mandatory safe storage laws. 1,300 children die needlessly every year because irresponsible gun owners leave loaded weapons lying around the house so children can accidentally shoot themselves. Three times as many end up crippled for life. Also its way easier to steal a gun if its not locked up. All a criminal has to do is kick in the door and walk of with arm loads of weapons.

Vote Socialist in 2020 for a civilized America and end the mass murder and carnage.

      • Terry April 13, 2020, 10:04 am

jww, I had to wait 1 hr and 45 minutes for a deputy to show up to a suspected break in where it appeared the burglars were still in the house. I live in the country, and the deputy said he was on the other side of the county when he got the call, and there were only 2 deputies for the entire county at night. Give up my guns? yea right.

    • Mike Stephens April 10, 2020, 8:25 am

      Sounds good

    • Big Al 45 April 10, 2020, 9:14 am

      LOL!
      Isn’t that what Hitler promised?
And what was that Protestant Pastors name? Oh yeah, Niemoller.
Perhaps your grasp of history and the nature of man and Governments is, shall we say, tenuous?
I have rarely read such naivete, but here you are.
      Well aren’t you special.

      • John Rogers April 10, 2020, 9:44 am

I believe you have all misread the intention of his post. He wants the law to pass, the shooting to start and be done with, so his children don’t have to go through this same BS that we have. He has a point. I’m in no hurry to leave this planet, but there are worse ways to go.

        • Big Al April 10, 2020, 10:49 am

Perhaps, but are you REALLY ready to advocate such a thing?!?!?!?!
Methinks that if true, you haven’t really thought about those children.
Revolution is a filthy business, best left to the final event.

    • Tom H April 10, 2020, 9:23 am

I find it funny how those folks that replied to your comment completely missed the last word. To those lambasting JoshO – the addition of “and liberty” makes it clear that the author is carefully talking about a time after the ensuing civil war that is guaranteed to follow passage of this bill and is assuming a people’s victory.

      • Scott West April 10, 2020, 7:16 pm

Let’s work an exercise. First, imagine someone that you consider to be a man of average intelligence. Secondly, realize that half the people are dumber than that. Third and finally, understand why people argue with people on their own side. 😉
