Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced legislation this month that would “eliminate” the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Along with disbanding ATF, the bill would also “remove firearm restrictions on lawful gun owners, and provide funds to surviving families of border patrol agents killed as a result of Operation Fast and Furious.”
Rep. Greene was clear about her intentions on social media.
“I’m introducing this legislation to #EliminateTheATF to protect ALL gun owners across this country from a tyrannical, power hungry group of bureaucrats who’s [sic] goal is to destroy our Second Amendment rights,” she said on Twitter.

Gun owners are well aware of the ATF’s latest moves to restrict 2A rights via bureaucratic deference. Pistol braces and DIY firearms parts and kits are currently on the chopping block and may end up getting bump stock or NFA treatment in the coming months.

The pro-2A community is now making its voice heard to stop these infringements by publicly commenting on the proposed rule changes in the hopes that it convinces the agency to back down.
Tens of thousands have submitted responses thus far but the ATF is not obligated to follow the word of concerned citizens, even if they represent an overwhelming majority, as is the case with the agency’s guidance on stabilizing braces and homemade firearms.
What would stop the ATF dead in its tracks is, of course, if it ceased to exist. This is where Greene’s bill comes into play. Which raises the question: Could she succeed in shutting down a federal agency that’s been around for more than a century?
Highly unlikely.
The bill only has three sponsors — U.S. Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) — and faces an uphill climb in the Democratically-controlled House and Senate. Not to mention the fact that the Harris-Biden administration is the most anti-gun ticket in modern history.
In that regard, it’s safe to assume, President Biden would never sign a bill to dismantle the very agency that gives him the best chance to foist gun control on the American people. No chance!
That said, you can’t blame a girl for trying. Plus, symbolically, it may help to put the agency on notice.

Outfits like the CDC and the ATF are way past the expiration date. Back when whisky was a key revenue source for the federal government the ATF (may) have been useful, but it long ago became a means for illegally messing with gun owners and folks who distribute and sell guns.

Since Gaetz is mentioned in this article I just wanted to raise a couple questions, where are his supposed victims? The accusations go back years and if he has any first hand accusers they should give testomony as adults without delay. Also, there was such a big fuss when Goldberg was cutting a deal and now nothing. The treatment of Gaetz seems very suspicious to say the least.

All that needs to be done is to remove the Unconstitutional Enforcement authority of the ATF.
It was NEVER intended as a ‘Policing’ body, but a regulatory body.
Enforcement was supposed to be by the FBI, and the ATF was never supposed to have agents with guns arresting people, and making raids.
ATF’s job was to oversee manufacturing and distribution paperwork and to track guns for the FBI.
But is was made into a SWAT team, and therein lies the problem, as ATF agents were never held to the same standard as FBI.

I am going to ask my congressman to put in a bill to kick MTG out of Congress. She is a pathetic fool except that she is doing or attempting to do what her constituents want, which is “go after the libs.” She is nuts. There’s a governing philosophy though…do nothing except chase after liberals.

Greene is more in touch with the struggling middle class than any other politician I can think of but go ahead and put a name out there with which I can compare your politician to mine.

No chance a federal agency will ever be dismantled, especially one that does the bidding of the Democrats.
You’re probably right; but, there are just too many “agencies” that congress has delegated authority to. This essentially makes them unaccountable DIRECTLY to the voters, something the founders saw as serious problems in other world governments and one they eliminated in our “representative” form of government.
Heart’s in the right place, we need more like her.
