Overview

Daniel Defense is staying strong in the SBR game this year with the DDM4V7S. Building on the Daniel Defense military heritage of 11.5 inch barrels, this new model features a free-floating rail with MLOK attachment points the length of the hand guard at seven positions. This, coupled with a full-length picatinny rail on top, gives you plenty of options for all the adds-ons you could possibly need. The barrel is a government contour, thick enough to do some serious shooting before it gets hot. Balanced with the new handguard, the rifle still feels very light. In fact, it is the lightest SBR Daniel Defense has ever made.  Standard equipment on this model is the Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip, which I have raved about elsewhere. 1679.

On the precision side of the house, Daniel Defense hasn’t been slacking either. New this year is the DD5V2, a .308 caliber powerhouse with an 18-inch barrel. Considering the group I shot with the 5.56 they sent out earlier this year, I am really intrigued by how accurate this monster may be. There is a lot going on with the outside of this gun: great ergonomics etc. But the real story to me is how they re-engineered the bolt to fix all the problems inherent to an issued military gun. That was a total lemon. Starts with an M. Ends in 110. That gun use to shear bolt lugs all the time, if you could keep the trigger group from falling out long enough to shoot, that is. Daniel Defense applied some hard core science nerd to all the dimensions of the bolt and BCG, and the result is spectacular. If you are in the market for a gas-operated .308, this is an excellent choice.
