There are lots of new product introductions at SHOT Show, not the least of which is HK’s new competition gun. With input from the HK shooting team and other competitive shooters, HK started with a stock MR556A1 and proceeded to add what competitors wanted. The result is the MR556A1 Competition. The first added component was the new 14” modular rail system. The versatility of adding rails wherever needed while keeping weight down was especially attractive. In addition, the Competition got an extended mag release for quicker reloads, a new design suppressor from Operator Suppressor Systems, and a Magpul CTR adjustable stock. The end result is a fast, competition-ready AR that shoots ½ minute of angle groups, according to HK Shooting Team captain, Jason Koon. MSRP is expected to be in the $2,950 range, and HK plans to start shipping guns in the spring of 2014.

How about releasing a G36 and MP7 for civilian sales? Or chambering a Mk23 in 10mm? How about that HK?

  • David January 30, 2014, 7:21 am

I’m happy with my HK 91, 93, and 94. Never cared much for the AR 15 or similar copies.

  • David Jerabek January 29, 2014, 11:53 pm

I have an HK 91, 93, and a 94. I feel I have the best. Never much for the AR 15s or the look a likes.

Everybody KNOWS H & K produces great rifles, firearms. I don’t know that I need OR want a ‘competition’ gun. I wouldn’t mind having just an old “run of the mill” 416..! Even just for the piston system, as all mine at this point are ‘d-i’ guns. It’s a want not a need anyway.

Lots ‘o love in this post for HK! Nevertheless, if they really are 1/2 MOA shooters they’ll sell loads of them even at $2,900. If the market (rich shooters) stopped supporting this high-end AR craziness then the prices might reflect reality. Until then…..

Free enterprise baby. Someone ALWAYS wants what the ‘other’ guy has.

  • steve January 29, 2014, 4:07 pm

just make me a new P7 m13 …for less than a years salary.

  • H>H>HILL January 29, 2014, 2:49 pm

NO WONDER WHY HK HAS GONE THROUGH SO MANY CEO s. over priced B.S.

Do you know which HK guns I want buy? G3 , MP5 any of the roller kind. Those are the market and so many people want them but cont have them because of the sporting clause in 922r. The HK AR’s are overpriced in the already flooded market. It may be considered a Cadillac for AR’s but not to me, when my Sig 516 is half the price and is just as reliable

  • Robert Coe January 29, 2014, 1:23 pm

If you’ve ever handled an HK, you know it’s worth the money. The issue is however, there are several ARs currently on the market that are of excellent quality and are half the price. My guess is many agencies with federal grants will purchase these at above market prices. Thats just the way the market works. We all know it, yet comment on the cost factor just the same. I hope they succeed and give a one year, NRA membership to each new owner.

I’ve handled many an HK owning a half dozen of them and their most VALUED 100 round used HK G91 308 win. and have been offered over 4k for that gun. It doesn’t have a scratch on it and I also have a .22 LR kit made by HK! Believe it or not. That’s unopened in factory style mil-spec case and is worth more than the F’n gun! 5k to be more precise. The REAL G91’s are praised world over for converting them into some of the worlds best sniper rifles ever produced. Not that Cetme CRAP!!!

  • DUDE January 29, 2014, 12:28 pm

Well yeah who doesn’t want to drop 2,900 + tax on a pimped out ar 15, that does .5″ at 1000 yards, oh 100 yards. I think it is actually a steal with that rad break and the high tech polymer mags.

  • 4x4moses January 29, 2014, 12:08 pm

HK makes some good stuff, but who (in their right mind) would spend nearly $3G on an AR? For that amount, I could buy another S&W AR-10, a Windham ORC AR-15, and a nice scope to swap between them.

  • rahliE January 29, 2014, 12:05 pm

That’s blasphemy that they would change the stock out to a Magpul CTR! The HK 416/MR556 stock is awesome, and also proprietary so you can’t just go out and buy it.. I like the Magpul CTR, I actually own 2 of them, but I would definatly want the HK stock if I were to pick one of these up, which at a $3000 price point, there’s not even a small chance of that happening

  • JOn January 29, 2014, 10:08 am

I agree with Ron. All I have ever wanted in life is an MP5 (I’m realistic, so in semi). They must hate us….

    • jack January 30, 2014, 5:56 am

mp-5, g36 thats what i think is what i and many others are lookin at ,now that you dont have to throw import tax with a factory in s.c. you could get the price down so poor people can get in on the hk wagon i own 2 a pistol and the SL8 . all i an many more want is to be able to buy in the military market for the cost gun that are close to HK quality you could sell truck loads rather than boat loads!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Steve Sparks January 29, 2014, 9:42 am

I’m a huge gear queer and this is totally uninteresting. An accurate AR? So? I want a G36.

    • Cody February 4, 2015, 10:19 pm

Its just an Ar G36 realistically

  • Rob62 January 29, 2014, 9:29 am

Great, another AR15 style rifle. With all the great rifles already out there is another one really going to make a difference ?! I contend not, specially with a $2,900 MSRP. But then there is always someone wanting the newest and “Best”. Personally There are many, many quality put together guns in the $1,000-$1,500 range. And if looking for a basic rock solid Flat Top you can find one for a bit under $1,000. I’m at a place in my life where I can say I have the money to spend on one of these, but will not be doing so. I wish H&K good luck and hope they sell many to other folks.

  • Mark Temple January 29, 2014, 8:14 am

You nailed it! Aweds, another flood gun.

  • Ron January 29, 2014, 8:01 am

Hey HK, how about you start selling the stuff from you that we want. No, not the dumbed down “civilian” crap, we what the same quality and same weapons you sell to the military and LE. Obviously not select fire (should be though) but otherwise the SAME weapons. Oh, I forgot, you hate us.

  • Jack January 29, 2014, 7:58 am

This looks like a very well designed and built AR rifle but I have a very hard time seeing $3000 worth of investment. Maybe that’s just me?

    • Rob January 29, 2014, 6:32 pm

I couldn’t agree more. I run a 1k dollar DPMS that holds .5 MOA at 100 Yds and cost a third the price. The rest of
2k I put into the optics and gun itself. Over time of course. Oh and the 25-30 30 rd poly mags incl in that. Hah!!!

  • Aweds January 29, 2014, 7:36 am

When people think HK, it’s for roller lock rifles and MP5s. Make those here, and they’ll sell boatloads. Another expensive AR? Meh.
