IWI is famous the world over for bullpup designs, and this year stepped out with Tavor 7, a feature-rich addition to the lineup. The Tavor 7 is chambered in 7.62×51, a first for IWI. The gun is obviously larger than the 5.56 Tavor series, going to a big boy caliber requires some additional materials. For the bulk though, you get a lot. The new Tavor 7 is only 3/4ths of an inch longer than the original model.New Israeli .308 Bullpup: IWI Tavor 7 — SHOT Show 2018

The barrel is a chrome lined, hammer forged, and comes with a 1 in 12 twist. This twist rate was picked to optimize lighter bullets, such as mil surplus, which is what the Tavor is expected to be shot with. The gas system features a 4 position switch, allowing you to cycle between normal, adverse, suppressed, and off. The forend features Mlok rails, for all your Mil-Spec accessories. The fore grip slides off, exposing a Picatinnyy rail, if you prefer a broom handle or flashlight on the bottom. A change to the charging handle, it now features an H&K style notch for bolt lock. The charging handle is reversible, using a small punch or a bullet.

The safety features a 45-degree throw, as opposed to a 90-degree style like an AR. Ejection is also reversible sans tools, in case you hand your guns off to a lefty on the regular.

The gas system is a short stroke piston system, built for reliability. The Tavor 7 also features some parts interchangeable with the Tavor 95, such as the cutlass grip being swappable to a regular pistol grip. The MSRP is $2,299.

    RELEASE DATE?!?!

  • Steve February 13, 2018, 11:57 am

Do we have a 700lb trigger in this model that will be 25% the cost of the entire weapon to replace again?

    • Chris February 13, 2018, 9:36 pm

Oh you mean a MILSPEC TRIGGER because, well, it’s a MILSPEC firearm?!

  • Gunny February 13, 2018, 10:42 am

I so love these firearms. But why did they use the fore end of the SAR when the fore end of the X95 would have made so much more sense?

    • Andrew March 4, 2018, 3:47 pm

In some ways they have. The 9 & 3 o’clock is M LOCK & the 6 o’clock position slides off to expose picitinny rail.
