NJ Gov. Murphy Talks Gun Control, Wants to 'Reclaim' Status as Anti-Gun Paradise

Though he’s only been gone a month or so, New Jersey gun owners have to be really missing former Gov. Chris Christie.

Sure, Christie was far from perfect on 2A issues, but this new guy, Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy is a total nightmare.

This week “Murph” met with a bunch of anti-gun chuckleheads, including Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald, to talk turkey on ways to undo what little progress Christie was able to make during his tenure.  Five bills were discussed at length, everything from codifying May-Issue in the Garden State to criminalizing private transfers to banning mags holding more than 10 rounds.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the bills from the governor’s press release:

  • A2761 – Reduces maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds; exempts firearms with .22 caliber tubular magazines from 10 round limitation.
  • A2758 – Codifies regulations defining justifiable need to carry handgun.
  • A2757 – Requires background check for private gun sales.
  • A2759 – Prohibits possession of ammunition capable of penetrating body armor
  • A2760 – Revises definition of destructive device to include certain weapons of 50 caliber or greater.

“I want to thank Majority Leader Greenwald for his tireless efforts to bring sensible gun reforms to New Jersey,” Governor Murphy said.

“Together, we can pass the laws that Governor Christie vetoed and reclaim our place as a state that acts on facts and common sense,” he continued. “We must again become a state that values the safety of our residents and communities over the misguided priorities of the gun lobby.

Facts and common sense.  Okay.  Let’s talk facts and common sense.  Facts first.  Between 2007 and 2015, the number of concealed carriers in the country increased by 215 percent.  Over that same time period, the murder rate dropped by 14 percent and violent crime fell by 21 percent, according to the Crime Research Prevention Center.

Common sense would suggest that empowering more law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms would further increase public safety and reduce crime rates.  Right?

Not according to Murphy. The harder it is for one to defend oneself the safer that person is.  For it is better to be a victim of violent crime than a preventer of it.  Common sense, right?

  • Ronhart February 23, 2018, 3:54 pm

A friend of mine moved from Colorado to North Carolina. He recently called me to tell me there must be a lot of really nice people in New Jersey because all of the assholes have moved to North Carolina.

How many terrible violent rapes in New Jersey must we hear about before we take action? Women can’t live in safety as long as there are “sexual assault weapons” in civilian possession. Therefore, New Jersey, we must pass common sense “sexual assault weapon” control. Effective March 1, all who possess “sexual assault weapons” must turn them in to their local police station.

That means you too, Gov. Murphy, and you too, Majority Leader Greenwald. Show up 8:00 a.m. March 1, and surrender your penises. Then New Jersey women (and probably little boys too) will be safe again.

  • Tommy Barrios February 16, 2018, 3:50 pm

IF the MORON voters keep electing Communist Progressive Libturds like that, then they deserve the tyranny exacerbated by that trash!

  • Rodney February 16, 2018, 11:21 am

If this new Governor wants to ban guns, then that means taking them away from his security detail. Until he does that, he has no credibility to make such a request.

    • A. Cuonom February 17, 2018, 12:49 am

He will be just like Dear Leader and Dictator Andrew Cuomo. Do as I say, not as I do…

  • Allen Lawson February 16, 2018, 10:39 am

NJ yep . I’ve been on this earth a very long time and I’ve never EVER heard any good news coming out of that place.by don t we all stop participating with NJ . I did many years ago . If it has anything to do or comes from NJ i don’t need it and neither do you. Tighten up people

  • joefoam February 16, 2018, 10:03 am

Anti gun paradise…HA HA HA. So all the murders were just ‘accidents’ then. Back in the day and as it is now NJ is one dangerous place to be: organized crime, robberies, murder, drug smuggling are an everyday occurrence. I’d hardly call that paradise.

  • markle laws February 16, 2018, 9:56 am

Anyone who visits or buys any thing grown or produced in NJ is saying “I agree with NJ’s gun policy”. Don’t buy from NJ. Money or lack thereof talks.

  • Roy Murphy February 16, 2018, 8:35 am

NJ is a neonate state : over regulated, Over Taxed and now with another criminal for a governor. Sanctuary State – IDIOT !!
He lives ad travels with armed guard, but demands that the people of the state cannot protect themselves. You Tax dollars at work – he will be making the Gov’s mansion into the new MS13 headquarters. Just another crap hole state, due to Damocrat political., criminal intent to do harm to the people of NJ.

    • Russ February 16, 2018, 9:13 am

More like a liberal victim state. There is so much crime in New Jersey, the criminal scum will go wild. I hope it does happen and people see the stupidity of gun control. There will be so much violent crime there because we all know scumbag criminals will suddenly stop victimizing people and follow the law. If the citizens of that state allow it to happen they are truly sheep for the slaughter. Liberals never cease to anaze me with their stupidity.

      • Jorge Garcia February 16, 2018, 10:19 am

You might think they are stupid, YEAH RIGHT!! You said it yourself, they travel with armend guards, and we are cohearsed to think this is about gun control, we are the stupid ones, this is all about making headlines and gratifying the vast majority that hate guns and vote, until their sorry buts gets saved by one. And by the way, doing so while sitting in some high chair sipping on good wine and gourmet dinners on our dime, when was the last time you went to the market in a limmo protected by the secret service, yeah I didnt think so, well these well rehearsed thieves do it on our dime every day, who is the stupid one. You could not pay me enough, or give me a place to live for free in a state that allows criminals to wander the streets armend to the teeth and prohibits law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Unless you make me governor, then that will probably change my outlook on things. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONYE, CAPISCE!!!

Let’s see how well this works out when only the thugs have guns and kill to get $10 for their drugs. Nice move, NJ.

Welome to the DEMOKRATIK REPUBLIK OF NEW JERSEYSTAN

  • Will Drider February 15, 2018, 1:03 am

The want everything 50 Cal or larger classified as a Destructive Device?
I only know of five modern mfg handguns that ar 50 Cal or larger. All of these far exceed $1K.
There are modern 50 BMG rifles. These start around $2K.
There are antique and modern ignition Black Powder rifles and handguns all single shot.
Is there some otherwise un-news worthy crime spree with these firearms in N.J. that we have not heard of?

It would include all shotguns in 10ga, 12, 16ga, 20ga and 28ga: leaving only the 410 as a shotgun! Many solid across the board 2A supporters always said that “All Firearm Enthusiasts” should support each others choices because after the gun grabbers get evil black ones, THEY WIL COME FOR YOURS, Many hunters, skeet/trap shooters happly sided with the gun grabbers against blavk guns and mags larger the 10 rounds. Well LOOK AT WHAT IS IN THE GUN GRABBERS SIGHTS NOW! Yes, its Jersey but you damn sure know how those anti gun proposals spread. Don’t feel the Federal definitions which exempt shotguns from destructive device category will protect your scatter gun. States write there own, just like they did with the term “Assault Weapon” and Laws to ban or restrict it. Got yours, don’t care? Well CA proved that what the State “Grandfather’s” can later be totally banned!
This bullshit needs to stop and everybody get on board the same train.

If you read the text of the bill NJ A2760 (text can be found here – https://legiscan.com/NJ/text/A2760/2018 ) shotguns, both rifled and smoothbore, are specifically exempt. This brand of scaremongering, saying that they are coming for our guns in reaction to a few common-sense gun violence regulations helps nobody. There is also a requirement for 12,000 foot-pounds of energy – I don’t know what kind of energy muzzleloaders put out but they might be exempt too.

      • Trakehner February 16, 2018, 8:06 am

Please, go away…you’re a slattern under bloomberg and shumer…any time one of the followers use the words, “common-sense” you know they’re lying. Just go away little girl, you aren’t fooling anyone.

      • MSG John Laigaie February 16, 2018, 8:35 am

Have you read the Constitution? You do know it says “Shall not be infringed”. You do understand that the 2A was not written to ensure you could hunt white tails in the fall? I openly carry a well holstered 1911 every day, all day. It does not jump out of the holster and go off..

  • Mark February 14, 2018, 10:23 pm

Some states are just a lost cause, I know as I lived in Kommiefornia. If you like guns it’s time to move from these states. The only solution to these states unconstitutional laws is if the Feds step in like they did with civil rights, but I don’t see that happening. Good luck NJ.

    • Tom Hart February 16, 2018, 8:16 am

Mark, I agree 100% with your statement. New Germany will be the east coast version of Comiefornia in less than 4 years. Happiest day of my life was the day I put NJ in my review mirror as my state of residence and moved to America! NJ is a lost state to the communist, socialist elitists and and run by the most corrupt government (maybe only 2nd to ILL) and police state loving crowd. Unfortunately like in all wars, innocent hard working honest people are the collateral damage.
If you Live in NEW GERMANY and love your FREEDOM, VOTE WITH YOUR FEET & GTFO!!!

    • Russ February 16, 2018, 9:17 am

The criminals and scum will rule. New Jersey sure elected a fool this time. Like criminals will abide by this law. Haaaaaaaaaaa. What sheep they are if this passes.

  • Mark N. February 14, 2018, 7:40 pm

Question 1: What center fire rifle cartridge DOESN’T penetrate all but Level IIIA vests (that police officers don’t wear)? Is the plan to out law all rifles?
Question 2: Most muzzle loading rifles are 50 caliber or greater. Are they going to be defined as “destructive devices” and outlawed as well?
