With all the new precision rifles, improved cartridges, and more efficient bullets, long-range shooting is reaching greater and greater distances. The Nightforce Wedge Prism can now be the answer to a scope not having enough elevation adjustment to reach a rifle’s full potential.
The Wedge Prism optically shifts the incoming image to the scope by a precise elevation value which is added to the riflescope’s elevation adjustments, allowing precise holdovers at increased distances.
The Prism is available in two variants, a 50 MOA and a 100 MOA version. In MRAD these equate to 14.5 and 29.1 MIL. These are the advertised nominal values which may vary slightly; each unit will be engraved with the exact value for the unit.
The Wedge Prism is fully compatible with all brands of riflescopes. It is designed primarily for use with 56mm objective lenses, but can support smaller objective sizes.
The Prism mounts in front of the riflescope to a picatinny rail with a Quick Detach attachment to ensure consistent, repeatable mounting. The mounting height of the Prism is designed to match up to a 1.5” centerline of a 56mm scope. The actual ring height needed will vary depending on the thickness of the mounting rail on the receiver.
The closer to centerline of the scope and closer to the scope will result in a clearest image. For optimal performance it may be necessary to slide the riflescope in the rings to minimize the distance between scope and prism.
Nightforce indicated that response to the has been about 50/50 between extreme long-range shooters and rimfire shooters. Rimfire precision matches have been growing in popularity but due to the limited power of the rounds, extended distances require greater elevation adjustment that the Prism offers.
Running a quick ballistic check, it looks like the Wedge Prism would add enough elevation adjustment to my Nightforce scope on my 6.5 Creedmoor to reach over 2000 yards, if I was lucky enough to have a place to launch bullets that far.
The first time I saw a similar unit was at an Accuracy 1stLong Range Rifle class and that model was noticeably pricier than the $990 retail price of the Nightforce Wedge Prism. So if your looking to reach new distances beyond your current scopes elevation travel, check out the new Wedge Prism.
