Fact: no independent audit has been released.
    All else is irrelevant.

  • samuel meola August 11, 2020, 3:24 pm

i never joined the NRA because the people who run it never showed where all of the members payments were going and never showed the exact amount of revenue collected in a year we will never see exactly how much each officer is paid and how much expense money they get and how it was used.sorry for that reason i will not join the nra.

  • Alan L Robinson May 28, 2019, 3:15 pm

Many here are ridiculously ignorant of the facts of the NRA, and apparently take both the MSM and nonsense from their ‘friends’ as Gospel, as opposed to actually READING their annual magazine, and going online to get the straight scoop.
If you are a member, you have access, try using that.

    • Christopher Chason August 14, 2020, 3:12 pm

      EXACTLY RIGHT!

  • Tim May 26, 2019, 10:06 am

Speaking as a life member I have some concerns about these allegations. However, my biggest complaint is the compromises and back door approvals the NRA has made over the years which have eroded our second amendment rights. The latest and final straw for me was the bump stock ban. I am an old man and I would never ever own a bump stuck. I think they are silly and useless. That being said the NRA\’s first announcement calling for further review of the accessories was foolish and counterproductive to our whole cause. Further more sitting by in silence and not fighting the current administration when they ban them without congressional approval was a huge overstep and will most assuredly come back to haunt us on other items and firearms in the future. The NRA giving the nod to President Trump that it would not stand in his way of banning these stocks was my last straw. I no longer give any money to the NRA, instead I support two other organizations. I don\’t even round up when buying parts and reloading supplies anymore. You wait till the next democratic president is in and see how he uses this new precedence to out law and ban further items and firearm types. This was a huge foot in the door and unforgivable.

    • Kane April 20, 2020, 9:30 am

The “bump stock” was approved by the BATFE during the BHO Administration. If the accessory was to be subsequently declared a violation of any firearms act then the NRA urged that the reversal be done through the BATFE and NOT by the executive legislative or judicial branch. The NRA position was well founded and you have NOT made a very convincing argument otherwise.

Why is it that I find more dubious critics of this “Guns America Digest” than anywhere else? Why do you keep posting this worthless rant? Prove you were ever a member of the NRA.

I am also p-oed over the “Bump-Stock” issue, but that does NOT equal a reason to dissolve the NRA. They may do some things that we do not approve of, but they are STILL the only large organization DEFENDING our 2A Rights in the District of Criminals! (D.C.) WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THE ANTIGUN CROWD IS ATTACKING THEM??? Because they hate guns? NO they are attacking NRA because they HATE the 2nd Amendment! They HATE US HAVING FIREARMS too protect ourselves with! WHO has stood FIRM against Anti Gun “laws” and ordinances for over 100 years? Right! NRA!

      “Speaking as a life member”

“I no longer give any money to the NRA, instead I support two other organizations.”

You are NOT speaking as a life member. What “two other organizations”? You should know the specifics of anyone you supposedly “support”?

      • Christopher Chason August 14, 2020, 3:35 pm

HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE MAN IS OR IS NOT, KANE?
He has no obligation to EXPLAIN too YOU or anyone else WHO he supports or WHAT organizations he is or is NOT a member of! He is simply giving his opinion on the issues! Unless you sleep in the same bed with the man, you know NOTHING about him! THIS crap is EXACTLY what is WRONG with our nation today!

        • Kane August 18, 2020, 10:59 am

Because of what he said Chason. The NRA tried to prevent Trump from using executive orders and advised that the BATFE handle the “bump stock” issue themselves since it was approved during the Obama Administration.

What “two other organizations”? Planned Parenthood? If someone is going to bad mouth an organization that I am a Benefactor Member 5850868 and then he brings up 2 other organizations (YES HE BROUGHT THEM UP) then I will base my reply on his words. I did NOT invade his, yours or anyone else’s privacy, he made a statement in the public domain.

Speaking of replies, you are NOT funny and in fact are disgusting. I will go by the words of people here, you can base your responses on who you are in the “same bed.” “THIS crap is EXACTLY what is WRONG with our nation today!”

Post like his are ” counterproductive to our whole cause.” and you totally missed the point and instead twisted the issue further along.

        • Kane August 19, 2020, 10:56 am

Obliviously, there are some people who post on here that support antifa and other radicle causes and are easily identified, they want others to recognize them. More commonly there are many that openly oppose the 2A and I believe they have a right to try make their case like everyone else. I also believe that there are many who falsely pose as supporters of the 2A that have turned against the NRA and post with the intent to sway others to withdraw their support from the oldest civil rights organization in the US. Of course this third group would have to be extremely deceptive and clever to enjoy any success in persuading a knowledgeable and suspicious group of people. Do NOT underestimate an adversary.

I see posts like the one “Tim” made as suspicious in content and very typical of a so many others denouncing the NRA. You have the SYMPATHETIC aspect such as “I am an old man.” Who seems REASONABLE, “I would never ever own a bump stuck. I think they are silly and useless.” Hey, there is something here for everyone to agree with. So Tim was once a STALWART supporter “speaking as a life member” but has become DISILLUSIONED, “my biggest complaint is the compromises and back door approvals the NRA has made over the years which have eroded our second amendment rights.” Of course this includes VAGUE charges from the previous example and the VAGUE details such as “I support two other organizations.” Details are important, if there are organizations I strongly identify with I will try and spread important news but “Tim” holds back this information. The problem for conmen is that details can trip them up so avoid those whenever possible.

It is quite possible that “Tim” is exactly who he say he is, the fallen away supporter of the NRA. Still, his political assessments of the NRA are at best over simplifications and are the only reason I responded to his dubious post. I thought I covered this information adequately but then some “Dudley do right” came along and totally missed my point. As I said, under BHO the BATFE approved “bump stocks” and after Las Vegas shooting there was a strong effort to ban the device. The NRA was concerned because many of their previous legal arguments were based on the legality of “common features” such as magazine fed, semi auto rate of fire, pistol grips and cosmetic features such as flash suppressors et cetera. So the full auto rate of fire was NOT a “common feature.”

Perhaps the BHO Administration saw the “bump stock” as a poison pill that could at some point could serve erode or totally destroy all previous legal arguments on firearms. The NRA never championed “bump stocks” and was concerned that the devise violated federal law. Trump wanted to ban the device although the NRA never called for such action instead suggesting that some “grandfathering” be worked out. The Dems in congress wanted a cause, they did NOT a solution so Trump was considering an executive order. The NRA argued the the BATFE should reverse their previous approval but this organization refused to take any blame. As I recall, the “ban” was worked out through the Justice Department. “Bump stocks” could have been a legal wedge to ban all other semi-auto firearms and the NRA was probing through a minefield. The issue was more involved than “Tim” described and if he left the NRA over “bump stocks” then he must a reactionary fool. Chason offered only misguided outrage but no worthwhile information. Those are the details as I recall and are probably pretty close to the detailed facts. Anyone can point out what I might have gotten wrong.

Speaking as a Benefactor member. I would like to see our “non-profit” organization disclose executive compensation, and see the Board members we elect demand accountability. Transparency is the only answer to the critics AND the membership.

I would take time off from work to attend the annual meeting, if only it were scheduled somewhere in the western US once in a while.

  • John Murray May 24, 2019, 12:28 pm

I have been a NRA life member since 1962 and reading the NRA magazine since the late 40’s (my grandfather was a life member). In general during that period the NRA has miss represented the 2nd amendment. The 2nd amendment is not to allow you to defend yourself from me or to allow you to have a weapon to hunt or target practice. It was put in place to give citizens the ability to combat tyranny in the government but it was expected to be a last resort. In doing so it installs a feeling(fear?) in the government that the people have the power over our destiny not the government. I believe that we are experiencing tyranny but the question is ‘ to what degree must it occur before the justice system or politicians have no control over it and application of the 2nd is necessary if we are to have our liberty as guaranteed in the constitution’. The NRA is not discussing these types of questions but they should be.

  • Steve May 24, 2019, 11:56 am

When men of honor like Allen West and Oliver North, who have nothing to gain from harming the NRA, tell you that something stinks, you better seriously consider that something stinks. Just as if these two military men were our eyes and ears to ascertain ground truth for us, they are trying to tell us that it appears a serious deterioration of ethics has occurred. This letter is the epitome of SPIN, rather than openly addressing the possibility of bad actors within our perimeter.

    • Winston May 24, 2019, 1:12 pm

Oliver North broke the law and lied about it under Reagan. I told a friend of mine that with North in the NRA it would be wrecked just as it was US Establishment fluffie Rex Tillerson who finally wrecked the Boy Scouts of America by finally allowing thousands of openly homo men into the organization in 2010 while he was direction 2010-11.

I to am a Life member who had to struggle to pay for my membership. It made me sick to learn how much LaPierre and many of his top staff are being paid and then to learn how little attention was given to the outrageous amounts of money being spent on that add agency. I am tired of the relentless phone calls from the NRA for more and more money for the latest monthly emergency, if it was up to me there would be a big cut back in some of those salaries and I would be finding a new add agency. My God Wayne is making more than twice the amount of the President of the United States!

  • Robert Boone May 24, 2019, 10:20 am

I also had to save to become a life member. My father before me was a life member. Wayne LaPierre has served well in the NRA but it’s time for him to resign. Once a person’s integrity has been called in question, it’s very hard to ever regain that trust. Wayne… for the good of all… step aside and then let’s unite!

  • Sundance98 May 24, 2019, 10:09 am

We had the Cincinnati Reforms in the 1970’s and we finally got rid of Cassidy. Perhaps the time has come for another Purging of the System and clearing out the dead wood.

  • Ron Winship May 24, 2019, 9:58 am

We had the Cleveland Reforms in the 1970’s and Cassidy left finally. Perhaps the time has come for another

Wayne is awesome, don’t jack with him!
Don’t care if Gramma Jones is prez or vice prez of NRA, SUPPORT the NRA!!

  • Irish-7 May 24, 2019, 9:33 am

I have not been following the alleged “infighting” very closely. The NRA gets such twisted reports from the media, who can you believe? I am curious as to why LTC (RET) Oliver North left so abruptly. I suspect his short term is related to the letter here? Anyway, I’m confident that GunsAmerica has many subscribers that know! Please provide a brief explanation. Thanks!

    • Kane August 20, 2020, 11:03 am

I suspect that the current problems for the NRA are a result of the close relationship with the firm Ackerman McQueen. This firm was probably loaded with financial opportunists that had little or no belief in the 2A and questionable loyalty. Seems like a potentially dangerous circumstance. I am NOT in any hurry to believe that Oliver North was the elixir that the NRA needed by it seems time to me for LaPierre to move aside.

  • Allen greenwood May 24, 2019, 9:21 am

Where are all the derringers ???? Davis, cobra, cob, etc…

  • Nick M May 24, 2019, 8:45 am

I do not support the NRA, they do not defend the 2nd Amendment.

  • Greybeard May 24, 2019, 8:42 am

LaPierre must go. I had to save up to become a Life Member. I have never been able to afford or wanted designer suits, luxury travel and a very expensive nookie arrangement. NRA has enough threats from our enemies without being eaten away at the core like a cancerous tumor. I will not give money while this person is our leader. LAPIERRE MUST MUST MUST GO! TODAY!!

    • Jim Haselton May 24, 2019, 10:30 am

Dear Greybeard … you’re suffering from an acute case of HUA …. I’ve been a life, ETC., ETC. member of the NRA since 1963 and your ranting about LaPierre is completely unfounded …. our membership today is nearly three times of what it was when I first joined ….. thanks to the leadership of Wayne …..sounds to me as if you are one of the distractors of the NRA ……
