He’s back!
Former President and Top American Gun Salesman Barack Obama has (apparently) maintained his ignorance of American firearm laws since he vacated the White House in 2016.
Speaking at VTEX Day in Brazil, Obama described the United States as having virtually zero regulations dictating the purchase or possession of guns.
“Some of you may be aware our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon any time. Without much, if any, regulation, they can buy it over the Internet, they can buy machine guns,” Obama told the audience.

Nearly every portion of the former President’s statement is untrue.
“Anybody” can’t purchase a firearm in the United States. As per the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Gun Control Act (GCA), codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), makes it unlawful for certain categories of people to ship, transport, receive, or possess firearms or ammunition.
These include any person who is convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year; who is a fugitive from justice; who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. § 802); who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution; who is an illegal alien; who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions; who has renounced his or her United States citizenship; who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner; or who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Americans also can’t purchase “any weapon.”
Many small arms are legal to own under federal law, but some have been regulated to the point of almost total oblivion. The National Firearms Act of 1934 requires a $200 tax stamp and an extensive background check to own automatic weapons, short barrel rifles and shotguns, and suppressors (among other things).
That $200 stamp made these firearms cost-prohibitive in 1934, and even though some firearms owners can now afford suppressors and SBRs, the background check process can still take nearly a year.
Machineguns, on the other hand, remain out of reach for most gun owners. The Hughes Amendment in the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 banned the transfer or possession of machineguns for civilian use. While it grandfathered existing machineguns, that limited supply has driven up the price to well beyond what most Americans can afford.

Obama’s “any time” statement likely refers to the fact that some states allow the private transfer of firearms without a background check. While this is true, Obama’s characterization grossly exaggerates the availability and frequency of private transfers. Anyone “engaged in the business” of selling firearms must purchase a Federal Firearms License and run background checks on all purchases.
While the ATF has remained cagey about how they define “engaged in the business,” firearm owners who sell firearms “repetitively” for profit need to be licensed.
In other words, Obama’s contention that firearms are free for the taking at any time, “over the internet,” is a stretch at best and an intentional misrepresentation at worst.
The cheering Brazilian crowd might be excused for their ignorance, but this isn’t the first time Obama has wildly exaggerated the limitations of American firearms law.
In 2015, Obama claimed that “it’s easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable.” A year later, he said “it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book.”
Both comments were soundly refuted at the time, but the former President doesn’t appear to have noticed.
And I thought LIAR Schiff was stupid and a LIAR but LIAR Communist Obama takes the award for being the biggest LIAR in U.S. history. Those COMMUNIST democrats couldn’t tell the truth if they were sworn in under penalty of death if they lied. When are these TREASONOUS COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS going to be arrested, prosecuted and executed for their ongoing treason?

Actually he was mis-quoted. What he actually said was
“Back in my hometown district of Cook County, a criminal can buy any weapon including machine guns whenever they want.”
“However law abiding citizens cannot any firearm including flintlocks without a rectal exam and a FOID card that costs more than what most Chicagoans make in a month.”
Obama is irrelevant. No one who believes in the 2nd amendment cares what he thinks.
He still thinks he is the president, and his agenda has not changed. He lies to the public, and to world leaders. He is shaming good people by including us in his deteriorating mental condition. He needs to live in a cave with his husband and brats.
If you live in Chicago, there is no telling what weapon you can buy, but it won’t come from a gun store. It is easier to buy on the street, thanks to him and people who think like him.

Those with illegal guns can get them from the same person they buy their drugs from… one stop shopping for them.

If “they” would all stop telling lies about guns, etc., perhaps we could go back to using some of our oldest laws that prohibit murder, robbery, etc., against those that break the laws. Guns are not the issue. Of course we’d have to go back to actually enforcing those laws. What the people in this country are learning is that if you belong to the elite, the powerful, the government, the political party, or other concocted division that they’ve put all of us in, then you can break the laws, any of the laws, that you just don’t wish to obey or that you just don’t obey. Making more laws will do nothing, except of course take away more of our freedoms and generate more money for our politicians to steal from us. Just look in your wallet or purse, make a list of the permits, licenses, and passes that we have to carry today. Which ones were free and which ones you had to pay for. When some of our previous politicians and government people actually go to prison then we’ll know the system is working. Until those commitments to prison actually happen, it’s just more politics, crimes, fees, and licenses. Our children are also getting confused by our politicians, so how can we hold them to any standard that we ourselves do not obey? Just my two cents worth.

The irony is Brazil has very restrictive gun laws and also absolutely unhinged rampant crime of the most violent variety… complete with running gun battles using full-autos spanning entire neighborhoods. Not even ISIS would have tried taking over some of these Favela neighborhoods. They make our Bloods/Crips problem look like kindergarten.
The Brasileiro population is beginning to take note of American’s having ~350,000,000 guns around, and how we have a relatively low crime rate overall with so many around.
They’re coming around to the concept that good people with guns is a good thing, and President Bolsonaro appears to be embracing it with newer relaxed gun laws that’ll empower the people to defend themselves right-then-and-there as needed, which hopefully over time dissuades criminals, reminding them they no longer have defenseless sheep to prey upon 24/7.
Obama is very well liked in Brazil – a country that imported nearly 10,000,000 slaves while America took in 3,000,000. He stands as a beacon to many there as he DID here. They have not yet personally experienced the results of his abject stupidity, they only know what CNN has said about him.

I think he’s right. You can’t buy them legally but criminals buy guns all the time illegally that’s why more laws compromising responsible, law abiding gun owners are ridiculous. Everything in my house has a paper trail that leads back to me but a mile down the road where the scenery starts to change and there’re shootings by convicted felons it’s a different story. The context of his yammering was completely wrong but laws don’t stop the wrong people from buying guns.
That would be true of a kid who father or mother took him or her to a gun store or show and made sure the seller made those requirements known. Obviously, too many people say inaccurate things based on what they have heard or what to believe as part of a certain narrative, not based on the facts.

In addition, his BS ban stopped much loved surplus ammo. Good thing that businesses learned how to circumvent the process by exporting the goods from different countries not on the ban used as a middle man but the prices have almost doubled on most surplus guns.
