A coalition of faith leaders in Oregon is orchestrating a grassroots movement to get gun control on the November 2020 ballot.
Lift Every Voice Oregon (LEVO), as the group is known, wants to ban feeding devices with a capacity greater than 10 rounds, require a 5-day waiting period and training for prospective purchasers of a “semiautomatic assault firearm” and make the minimum age to purchase such firearm 21.
LEVO defines “semiautomatic assault firearm” as a “selective fire rifle capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user.”
“We have to get legislation before this state for people to vote on to say ‘yes, this is not the kind of weaponry we want in our civil society,’” said Reverend Dr. W.J. Mark Knutson, the chair of LEVO and a pastor at Portland’s Augustana Lutheran Church.
The three ballot measures — IP 60, IP 61, IP 62 — read as follows:
IP 60. “will implement an enhanced safety training course, add a waiting period and require that the background check be successfully completed before a semiautomatic assault firearm is delivered to the purchaser, so that we ensure these weapons are kept out of dangerous hands; and … follow several other states by raising the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic assault firearms to twenty-one …”
IP 61 “will follow several other states by raising the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic assault firearms to twenty-one; and…enhance the safety of residents, particularly children, of this state by prohibiting the manufacture, sale, or transfer of large-capacity ammunition magazines…”
IP 62 “will enhance the safety of residents, particularly children, of this state by prohibiting the manufacture, sale or purchase of large-capacity ammunition magazines”

The restrictions for the “semiautomatic assault firearms” are not limited to rifles according to an alert sent out by the Oregon Firearms Federation (OFF), a pro-gun organization. Included on the list are many commonly owned and widely popular shotguns and handguns.
Before voters vote on any of the measures, LEVO has to collect an initial 1,000 signatures and turn those over to the state Attorney General and the state Supreme Court. If the petition is approved, LEVO will need an additional 112,000 signatures for the measures to appear on the November 2020 ballot.
“It’s gonna be a battle,” Knutsen told OPB.org. “We’re ready for that.”
OFF cautions that the LEVO ballot initiative, which also includes previously filed IP 40 that forces gun owners to secure firearms in a particular manner, will be flanked by Dems in the Legislature who have the same agenda.
“Obviously these attacks will only be part of the upcoming battles since the Democrats in Salem have promised to get as much of this nonsense as possible passed as legislation in February,” said OFF.

How could prohibiting LC magazines (“enhance the safety of residents, particularly children, of this state by prohibiting the manufacture, sale or purchase of large-capacity ammunition magazines” ) make it safer for residents, particularly children? That makes about as much sense as Biden getting elected president.

Cool, because that excludes every firearm owned by private citizens other than NFA items. They’re just repeating the same terms of the National Firearms Act (1934), the Gun Control Act (1968) and the Public Safety and Firearms Act (1994) so there’s no actual effect for all their trouble.
It is just worrisome that this state teems with the ignorant and stupid, and that they are in control of the state. The Republicans State Senators should just walk out now and avoid the rush.
