When I went over to Outdoor Edge to check out their new products there were several guys there eagerly waiting for a look at their new Harpoon.
Priced between $30-$40, the Harpoon comes with 550 paracord, a belt-carry sheath, and a blade holder which screws onto any broom handle. It’s one of those cool little survival tools that are hard to pass up.
These are nice knifes. I believe the SEALS are using Cold Steel Recon 1 knifes if I’m up to date if not someone correct me please.
Although they cost a bit more, I think that the very best of knives is by Randall, of Orlando, FL. I carried one during the Korean War, and in Vietnam (3 tours) and in other Special Ops dispatches in other countries. Randall issued to us in special operations a knife of our choice at the time, free of charge. I started out with a Pattern 1 fighting knife, but when I chipped the blade whilst using it as an “all around” blade (using it as a can opener opening a soldered lid on a flat of Viet Cong mortar fuses), Randall took it back and instead gave me a Pattern 14 which I could use for much more heavy duty. I still have it, and although a little larger and heavier duty than most other blades, I consider it the very best, all around knife for both outdoors and military use. Besides keeping a very sharp edge through much heavy use, the edge tends to keep its sharpness and geometry. Far better than our standard issue Kebars. Jim Haynes
