Sometimes non-lethal is the way to go. While most folks don’t have the luxury of carrying both lethal and non-lethal self-defense weapons, an OC powder launcher from Pepperball might fit nicely into a home defense system.

We caught up with Pepperball engineer Andrew Ferguson at SHOT Show 2020 to get the latest on their newest product: the TCP Carbine Conversion.

Much like products designed for Glock pistols, the TCP Carbine Conversion transforms Pepperball’s popular TCP pistol into a carbine-length system that increases both accuracy and effective range. It launches projectiles much like paintballs filled with OC powder at 350 feet-per-second using CO2 cartridges. The projectiles injure the target and then burst, creating a cloud of vapor similar to pepper spray.

As Ferguson put it, “It hurts, and then you can’t breathe.”

The thirteen-inch rifled barrel allows users to hit targets at 35 meters “all day long,” according to Ferguson.

“It really ups the accuracy potential of this. You go from pistol accuracy into carbine accuracy.”

Shooting the TCP Carbine is a piece of cake. There’s no felt recoil, and we didn’t have any trouble hitting the man-sized target precisely where we were aiming.

The Carbine’s magazines can be stored with the CO2 tank punctured, but Ferguson also noted a magazine that can puncture the tank with a single turn. This will prevent any slow leaks while also making the Carbine quickly deployable.

Law enforcement agencies can already order the TCP Carbine Conversion Kit. Consumers can order the TCP pistol for $400, and Ferguson said that Pepperball plans to make the Conversion Kit available to consumers as an upgrade later in the year for about $250.

While at the booth, we also noticed an intriguing single-shot device similar to Pepperball’s Flashlauncher but without the flashlight attached. There’s no word on the cost or release date of this product, but if you’re looking for something more concealable than the Flashlauncher, this might be a great option.

This would be prefect for me to go after the deer devouring my gardens. Many of my nerighbors and dogs are getting Lymes from the deer. One little boy looks as though he had stroke, but it is from Lymes.

How can I buy one of these? I hear that they do work very well at keeping the deer away!

Prisons/jails have used paint ball guns with “pepper balls” for decades. The pepper balls are kept in a freezer which adds a extra bit of sting to impact. These were fed from a large hopper. No mention of the round/ball capacity on these. Thess can also be used in indirect fire by shooting walls, ceiling or horizontal surfaces in front of hiding person as cloud will spread/drop on target.
