President Trump Calls for Red Flag Laws, Tweets Support for ‘Strong Background Checks’

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Update: Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019 – Trump phoned NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre this week to discuss the prospect of strengthening background checks, according to The Washington Post.

LaPierre reportedly told the president that supporting, presumably, a universal background check bill that criminalizes private transfers would not be popular amongst gun owners.

The White House has not confirmed that the conversation took place and the NRA has not issued a statement about the alleged call.

However, Trump has publicly commented on the “great appetite” for background checks following the tragedies last weekend in Ohio and Texas.

“There is a great appetite, and I mean a very strong appetite, for background checks. And I think we can bring up background checks like we’ve never had before,” Trump said in front of the White House Wednesday.

“I think both Republican[s] and Democrat[s] are getting close to a bill on, to doing something with background checks,” he continued.

A ban on black rifles was also mentioned by the press during the impromptu briefing, to which the president said, “I can tell you that there is no political appetite for that at this moment,” adding that he “will certainly bring that up” in the ongoing negotiations with legislators.

Many in the gun community oppose universal background checks because they are virtually unenforceable without a national registry of firearms.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Monday, Aug. 5, 2019 – President Trump is asking lawmakers to enact a series of reforms aimed at preventing mass killings following two shootings over the weekend that left as many as 30 dead and dozens more injured.  Included on that list are gun confiscation orders.

“We must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms and that if they do those firearms can be taken through rapid due process,” said Trump from the White House on Monday.

“That is why I have called for Red Flag laws also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO),” he continued.

In addition to ERPO, Trump also tweeted support for “strong background checks” in the context of “marrying this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform.”

Maybe Trump is looking to make a deal: universal background checks in exchange for bipartisan immigration policy.  Though, he did not elaborate on this during the address, saying instead that he is willing to listen to ideas “that will actually work.”

Cracking down on violent video-game culture, improving mental health outreach and treatment, working with social media companies to more closely monitor users, and giving the death penalty to convicted mass killers were the other measures the president laid out.

Activists on both sides of the gun divide were disappointed with Trump.  Anti-gunners suggested that the president didn’t go far enough to restrict 2A rights while pro-gunners argued that red flag laws are ineffective and unconstitutional.

“Let’s be clear: This is not about mental health, it’s not about video games, it’s not about movies. Those are all NRA talking points. This is about easy access to guns,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, the anti-gun group funded by former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg.

“We’ve been down this road with the president before after Parkland,” Feinblatt continued.  “If he actually means what he says, he should call Majority Leader McConnell today to get a public pledge from him that he will call the Senate back immediately and take up bipartisan background checks and Red Flag legislation. No more politics, it’s time for action.”

Gun Owners of America (GOA) Senior Vice President Erich Pratt said it was “frustrating to see President Donald Trump’s continued support for so-called Red Flag laws. These Red Flag laws, properly known as Gun Confiscation Orders, are incompatible with actual due process and allow for the confiscation of firearms from innocent Americans.”

Pratt pointed to a recent incident in Maryland where a man, subject to an ERPO, was killed by police.

Instead of banning “assault weapons,” enacting universal background checks and Red Flag laws, Pratt implored lawmakers to pass H.R. 38, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, as well as H.R. 3200, the Safe Students Act (to repeal gun-free schools).

“We know that firearms in the hands of honest citizens keep us safer. In fact, based on a study commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control, we know that guns are used 16-100 times more often to protect life than to take it. And these defensive gun uses even include the employment of commonly owned, semi-automatic rifles,” explained Pratt.

He then listed the following examples:

  • A Houston man fired several rounds while fighting off five home invaders this year, using his AK-47 as his primary means of defense;
  • A Florida man utilized his AR-15 to fire 30 rounds while fighting off seven intruders; and,
  • A very petite Maryland mom chased three burglars out of her home simply by charging her AR-15.

The next few days should be interesting. Stay tuned for updates.

The thing with guns is bad people are more afraid of a home owner with a gun then a cop with a gun!
Take all the guns away and in 2 years, OK maybe 3.. We will have, as many stomper’s a leader thinks
they need to break into a home, after they do what they want to do with those in the house they will
stomp the life out of them, maybe take the girls with them.. Hey, the Liberals say , No one in this country NEEDS a stinking gun… forget about the fact that it WAS mandated years ago by much smarter people then them that all males need to be proficient with Fire arms and it was in fact out FIRST LINE of Defense and still is as it is now. NO ONE with brain would want to come to our country to do us harm…. Yes we have lots of guns, and some where there is a Old grandma siting on her rocker holding her 12
gauge ready for any “Stomper” who invades her home….

Maybe the the Red flag law kills to birds with one stone ? How do we assume one is crazy or a threat , but by their actions and words.

You can silence a whole portion of the population ( gun owners ) with a law that threatens there belongings and RIGHTS .

These Reg Flag Laws are a way to silence your political opposition , the second you disagree with the government , city, county , state . NEW Taxes , building projects , school zoning .

Any opposition to their out of control spending and mismanagement ,can be taken out one person at a time.

This or These laws are just the start of some bad lessens to be learned in our Country.

  • Scotty Gunn August 10, 2019, 6:59 pm

Trump used to be anti-gun in his past, specifically against “assault rifles” (modern sporting rifles). I wonder if he is going back to this?
I sincerely hope for the sake of our country he does nothing. Any gun laws now would cost him dearly in support that he needs. If this country gets a Joe Biden,we will lose guns fast.

  • Vince August 10, 2019, 3:27 pm

Trump is a New York Liberal Democrat and has always been one, just because he might care about his country more than the average Dem, deep down inside his is a Dem, his Children are Liberal Dems, Their spouses are Liberal Dems, to be influenced by a tragedy that has happened and will most likely happen again is just plain Stupid on his part, him discussing Gun Legislation with two of the most despicable politicians on the Dem side, Piglosi and Smuck Schumer is like asking the advice on the best way to jump off a cliff to commit suicide. He will be losing a big part of his base and possibly lose the 2020 election.

The second Amendment does not apply to Automatic, semi-automatic, bolt action, semi-automatic handguns, revolvers, or single shot firearms. The Second Amendment is a Restriction Placed on Government and the technology involved has absolutely no bearing! The Entire Bill of Rights are not written to give a freeman rights but to put restrictions on the government by We The People. They forbid governments interference in our Rights. The right of The People to keep and bear arms has been interfered with since the 30’s and has to stop! A Truly Freeman will accept nothing but Freedom and Liberty! If you can not understand that Freedom has a cost, move, don’t mess with Our Freedoms!

  • Mike In ATL August 10, 2019, 3:26 am

We need an alternate strategy here. Yes, by all means let’s do what we can to neuter these attempts at Red Flag laws, but at the same time…

Let’s bring pressure to bear on Congress to eliminate the worst aspect of the Red Flag laws: No-knock warrants. The idea that we would allow the safety of ordinary citizens to be subordinated to the safety of law enforcement officers conducting their Gestapoc-tactic raids is a perversion of law that cuts across all demographics and especially weighs on minorities. Even the most rabid Democratic representative would be risking political suicide by not voting to eliminate that abomination.

  • Carl August 10, 2019, 12:54 am

Mr Trump I’m very disappointed with you and the red flag this is NOT GOING TO HELP YOU GET RE-ELECTED SHAME ON YOU!!!!

  • Clint W. August 10, 2019, 12:04 am

If you have been paying attention, the NRA has never had an issue with a good background check. They do have issue on how the information is used though. The Democrat plan has always been for the governemtn to gather all psychological health info from all doctors and stockpile it.

Fiired from a Job? Divorced and feeling really depressed? You go to the doc, get a prescription for anti-depressant, and that info goes in the database. Now you will have to prove you are not a mental case, and this may require a lawyer. Don’t think so? How man folks have you seen that are actually disabled, and apply to the SS Admin. for disability, only to have it denied. They have to get a lawyer.

The issue has always been the government gathering information about everybody they don’t really need. Just how many of these shooters have ever been treated such that information could have been gathered in the first place? Criminals and those intending to do harm will always find a way. The end result of Democrat off the deep end background checks and gun laws will be that there will be no a legal concealed carry holder to stop the murderer. Britain and Australia citizens are still getting shot dead, they just don’t advertise it much, and when there are no guns left to get from the law abiding, what gun control excuse is left?

  • johnnyraygun August 9, 2019, 6:38 pm

The only reason to vote for Trump was his stance on Reciprocity and “Hearing Protection Act. We all thought he would get it done while he had the Senate, House, Supreme Court and of course the presidency the first two years. Got Nada, so all that is left is his angry attacking tweets and his family getting wealthy. One move on anythings discussed like Red Flags, waiting period, and banning AR’s he will be dead meat. So I will watch the next couple of months and see. . He has made a mess of the illegals, gave a tax break to the only people who do not need more money, 1%ers, and has done nothing for the middle class. Like I say, if he and congress moves on anit-2A legislation he will lose my vote.

    • John Cullen August 14, 2019, 3:29 pm

You are wrong about the tax changes.
Most people made more had less with held and ended up owing less.
      Just check the numbers!

  • Don Richardson August 9, 2019, 6:24 pm

Most of the ‘universal background check’ legislation is written to make owning a gun extremely difficult or extremely expensive or both. When the lefties talk about them they make it sound lovely but none I have seen would be effective at stopping crimes. They are designed to take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Criminals don’t obey the laws anyway, so new laws have no effect on them.
The problem with the current background check is that some states refuse to send information to the NICS system. If there is no info on someone, you can’t do a valid check.
The bigger problem is that if someone is intent on committing a crime, it is very difficult to stop them. They can buy guns from criminals or steal guns. And if they are willing to risk the death penalty for murder, why would ignoring firearms laws stop them?

  • Thomas Jefferson August 9, 2019, 6:18 pm

IF Trump supports either Universal Background checks OR Red Flag “laws” expect 85-90% of his base to DUMP HIM (as they well should). Universal Background checks are nothing more than a precursor of a national gun registry, which will be quickly followed by an attempted confiscation. The founding fathers EXPECTED patriots and citizens to be armed with the SAME weapons that the military has. In the 1770’s we had the muskets and field cannons. Today, we should have anything and everything at our disposal. Red Flag “laws” are Unconstitutional and violate due process, and it’s an engagement in theft by taking. The 2nd amendment was put into simple terminology so even the most DENSE Libtard could/can understand it. “….SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” The 34 NFA and the 68 GCA are UNCONSTITUTIONAL along with ANY “gun law” the INFRINGES upon one’s rights. Let me ask you a question. Would you consider allowing your public servants (judges, lawyers, law-makers, etc…) to dictate to you concerning your freedom of speech or religion? How about with whom you can associate? How about a permit and background check PRIOR to your attendance at a particular church? Maybe PAY for a permit to speak your mind? Maybe grovel before a bureaucrat to beg permission to mingle with your friends of choice? I THINK NOT. How much more so should we be unwilling to allow PUBLIC SERVANTS to legislate away our GOD-GIVEN, UNALIENABLE, INHERENT and NATURAL RIGHTS!!! Rights which are precedent of any man-made government. The 2nd amendment was made for one purpose only. NOT Duck Hunting. Not shooting trap. Not target shooting, but to have the ability to overthrow a rogue government hell-bent on disarming and enslaving it’s “SUBJECTS”. Wise up. Call your congress-critters, the white house. RAISE HELL and light up the white house switch boards. If Trump wants another 4 years, he best not go down this communist path that the Libtards are laying for him.

Remember everyone: In a recent Nationwide televised interview, the National Chairman of the DNC Tom Perez stated Quote: “The New Face, The Future of the Democratic Party is Socialism.” End Quote. I ask their supporters to remember Nazis were Socialists and the KKK is a Democrat founded Organization, and According to Valdimir Lenin Quote: “THE GOAL OF SOCIALISM IS COMMUNISM.” In closing I quote Mao Tse Tung: “All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.” – This is why Our Founding fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment!

    • D F August 12, 2019, 3:04 pm

NAZIS were not socialists! The ignorance displayed in these comments is off the charts. Why didn’t all those good guys with guns stop the El Paso shooter? the bottom line is with modern semi-autos you can kill and injure a lot of people even with rapid response of police or a “good guy with a gun.” Anyone who advocates more guns to deal with this problem needs to have their heads examined. I guess most don’t see this as a problem or are going to blame video games or no prayer in schools. Give me a fricking break. the issue is GUNS and people that shouldn’t have them getting them so easily.

  • Shan August 9, 2019, 4:47 pm

I just can’t believe there are no background checks done when buying a fully automatic bumpstock high capacity machine gun Assualt rifle with a zillion round clip. You don’t have to even pay for it, as a matter of fact they pay you.

    • Roy August 11, 2019, 12:13 pm

Shan are you just a mental midget or what? First off spell assault correctly. Maybe had you not been frothing at the mouth you might have known what you were actually typing? In order to own a Fully automatic weapon you have to have and pay for a special license. And they are very hard to get and require a complex background check. And a zillion round clip? What an hell does that even mean? Again they don’t exist and they are called magazine’s only a stupid liberal or Democrats would even use terminology such as this because they like you have no clue what you are talking about. So before you begin drooling again wipe your mouth then your a as if you really know the difference.

  • rt66paul August 9, 2019, 4:09 pm

What is wrong with due process of law? Have a shrink or a judge sign off on the warrant – allow the person to sue anyone who lies about violent tendencies. This is just a witch hunt that anyone can point fingers at people they do not like.

  • Mike August 9, 2019, 2:56 pm

Politicians by nature never miss an opportunity to make us feel that we need them. They want the public to be in a constant state of chaos , relying on the government to come to the rescue.

It’s always “do as we say, not as we do”, “it’s for the betterment of all”, “you’ll feel safer”…need I go on…

But of course, if one were to step back and look at the entire picture , logically, well wait a minute, I’m talking about politicians who will do whatever it takes to garner votes and popularity. Hell, they don’t care, they are set for life and seldom have our every day worries.

    Now I get it…..

Walt, initially we won’t have to cut off our dicks because some other lowlife pos raped someone.
Our brilliant Congress will initially pass a law dictating that we register our dicks. Passing stupid laws have an amazing way of making the stupid & naive liberal, communist politicians to feel like they are actually safe from psycho criminals.

  • Kevin Hare August 9, 2019, 1:15 pm

Mr Trump, as a loyal contributor you have seen my last contribution if you support a Red Flag bill of any sort!
We have enough laws concerning guns and they are not acted upon..
Red Flag endangers the civil rights of law bidding citizens with false claims of their political opponents, disgruntled neighbors and those on a witch-hunt..
So think the topic through and don’t give it a knee jerk reaction!

  • 1-mac August 9, 2019, 1:13 pm

Trump has sold out his supporters and caved to the anti 2nd amendment people. No matter what it will never be enough for them. Nothing about taking guns from criminals, but if your ex-wife decides you are “:dangerous” they take your guns with no probable cause and you get no hearing before confiscation. Not fair.
I was a strong supporter of Trump, but no more.

    • I Love Liberty August 9, 2019, 10:34 pm

Donald Trump will likely get my vote again. Every Democrat President candidate is far more against the 2nd Amendment than he is. I hate what is doing presently though. It is stupid. Red Flag Gun Confiscation laws or Universal Background Checks would not have stopped these deranged mass shooters. He may lose a lot of votes if he decides to sign these terrible Federal laws they are proposing.

I wrote him recently and told him what I thought.

  • Tenbones August 9, 2019, 1:13 pm

I don’t think President Trump is anti-gun as much as he is gun-ignorant. He, as well as the other republicans that are advocating some kind of new gun legislation don’t seem to understand the ramifications of what they are trying to do. They are being advised by people who, more likely than not, have never been around or held a gun. They are completely out of touch with the gun culture and oblivious to the laws already in effect that, if enforced the way they should be, would solve a lot of the knee-jerk spasms they are having now.

A single mass shooter is not going to destroy this country but uncontrolled press and media just might!

  • Ricky B. August 9, 2019, 12:46 pm

Our president’s support for the 2nd amendment is just as strong as his belief in the Christian religion… I mean he’s totally evangelical, right?

If you believe what I just wrote, I have a beautiful Trump branded “luxury condo” with a gorgeous ocean front view in Moscow to sell you…

You can’t trust that map you’re looking at that doesn’t appear to show any ocean bordering Moscow. All world maps are fake news designed by the fake news media specifically to prevent you from enjoying this too-good-to-be-true deal I am offering on this heavenly property… Ha!

    • johnnyraygun August 9, 2019, 6:45 pm

Agree. A fake who pulled the wool over our eyes. Never again, I can get this voting for Dems and healthcare to boot. The Russia connection bugs as it is, but Red Flag is the end.

  • john gallus August 9, 2019, 12:33 pm

i got my first bb gun at 6, first shotgun at 10,and have hunted and shot targets and clay birds for almost 60 yrs. Along with the right to keep and bear comes a responsibility. This important right is also a privilege, if you have committed a felony, domestic violence, or other acts of violence; you lose the right and privilege. If you can’t safely store your arm against theft or misuse, maybe you shouldn’t have them. Back ground checks are already in place in pa. nj. and de. Red flag laws if done in court by a judge may not always be fair, but if it keeps a looney from shooting up a church or walmart I’ll live with it.

    • Mark Wynn August 9, 2019, 4:56 pm

I generally agree with your common sense. I’ve both purchased firearms and hold a CCW, both require a background check here in Nebraska. I don’t want criminals or mentally unstable people having firearms. The devil, of course, is in the details of a “background check.”

As for so-called red flag laws, if someone makes violent threats to people or on social media, they’re either dangerous or stupid.

The 2nd Amendment battle, therefore, will move to the issues of who gets to decide whether a citizen must give up firearms, and under what criteria.

    • Thomas Jefferson August 9, 2019, 6:22 pm

John, may your chains of slavery rest lightly upon you. You are a FOOL if you think the Communist party (demotards) are going to stop at the point of enacting Red Flag “laws”. You best get ahold of a copy of “THE SECOND AMENDMENT PRIMER” and study hard. You are failing as an informed citizen.

    • Fug You August 9, 2019, 7:42 pm

It can’t be both a RIGHT and a PRIVILEGE. Are you that stupid?? It’s a FRIGGIN RIGHT!!! PERIOD!!!!!

    • ROBERT SAAD August 9, 2019, 10:01 pm

John, please do not confuse a constitutional right with privilege! A drivers lic ,or any other lic. is a privilege, generally subject to gvm’t . intervention. The Bill Of Rights is not subject to same! Don’t ever forget It’s ‘”THE BILL OF RIGHTS”. It is the citizens responsibility to uphold them! I got my first firearm at age 6 ,still an active shooter, I’m 89, perhaps they will put other restrictions in the RED FLAG laws that may affect people of our age??

  • Joseph Tessaro August 9, 2019, 12:30 pm

Universal background checks can be done WITHOUT national gun registry. I am an avid sportsman, I love to hunt, I own firearms. I am not opposed to having background checks done on private party sales. I live in Wyoming. Private party sales are huge here…lots of people like them and complain about change, but what is stopping a lunatic, a terrorist, a mentally disabled person from coming to a gun show in Wyoming and purchasing a firearm without a background check? NOTHING. To me, in a nut shell, being opposed to these checks is nothing more than saying a person has something to hide, and probably shouldn’t own a gun or sell a gun to someone in the first place.

I also don’t mind if they reinstate the assault weapons ban because I already own a couple of AR’s that I rarely shoot. I don’t need anymore.

    • Shan August 9, 2019, 4:54 pm

Which gun shows specifically don’t do back round checks? I notice you didn’t mention any. I have been to many gun shows throughout multiple states, all hire FFL dealers to perform the back round checks. Not sure you know that.

      • Shan August 9, 2019, 4:56 pm

Also my money is on you not owning or knowing anything about firearms troll. Nice try.

    • Thomas Jefferson August 9, 2019, 6:26 pm

      Joseph,

You are an ignoramus. People like you are why this country is going down the toilet, and fast.

    • John S Stagg August 10, 2019, 12:07 am

You must be really stupid. Don’t you know that red flag laws will take away your guns if your nabor, girlfriend, boss, or ex wife or anyone who doesn’t like the color of your skin and happens to be angry at you for no good reason will turn you in even when you did nothing wrong . Any person who wants revenge against you will use those unconstitutional red flag nazi laws to take away your guns, stupid!

    • JR August 13, 2019, 3:35 pm

I’ve been to a few dozen gun shows, most around where I live but others if I’m visiting an area or someplace for work and it’s always been plainly stated in the pamphlets they pass out or posted at the entrance that background checks are required to conduct business at the show. I’d bet some transactions take place outside this rule but guess what, those are same people that would flaunt similar laws and the same ones who flaunt existing laws that prohibit selling or transferring firearms to known felons or other people they know or suspect are prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. Also, it can’t be a “loophole” if there’s no law or rule against it. There is nothing that makes the private transfer of a firearm without a background check illegal unless you live in such a state.

You probably would find more support for the background checks they are wanting if they were truly instant and the results and record of the background check were deleted after the check was completed. That’s not is happening now.

The record of the background check that’s supposed to drop off in 90 days out of the NICS. The paper 4473 has to be kept for 20 years. After 20 years, they can be destroyed. If the FFL conducting the transfer goes out of business before that 20-year period, they must box up those records and ship them to ATF Out-of-Business Center (ATF National Tracing Center). The ATF is not allowed to computer…ize them per Title 18 U.S.C. 926(a):

” . . . such records, (shall not) be recorded at or transferred to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the United States or any State or any political subdivision thereof, nor that any system of registration of firearms, firearms owners, or firearms transactions or dispositions be established.”

For about 15 years, the ATF has been transferring this “out-of-business” data to microfilm and destroying the hard copies in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. 926(a). The ATF also requires the closing store to transfer hard copies of the Acquisition/ Disposition records or, “bound book”, to the ATF. The ATF has graciously allowed businesses to keep this record electronically and so also requires the electronic copy be transferred to the ATF if one exists. Clearly, this is also in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. 926(a) since this electronic record will clearly then exist within a facility owned, managed or controlled by the United States once transferred. The ATF receives millions of such records every year.

Shortly after the microfilm project commenced, the ATF began to create a “Computer Assisted Retrieval System” (CARS) using this out-of-business data. Since this data is derived from the Form 4473, it contains the name, address, height, weight, race, date of birth, place of birth, and driver’s license number (or other ID number) of every firearm purchaser as well as the serial number of the firearm(s) purchased or transferred. Think of how many transactions must be stored in the CARS. This data exists on a mainframe operated by the United States and is in clear violation of Title 18 U.S.C. 926(a).

In the early 2000s, the Microfilm Retrieval System (MRS) project commenced which took this data and added manufacturer and importer information along with “other” data to the database that already included the name, address, height, weight, race, date of birth, place of birth, and driver’s license number (or other ID number) of every firearm purchaser as well as the serial number of the firearm(s) purchased or transferred. Microfilmed out-of-business records are also being converted to digital image for who knows what purposes. This data exists on a mainframe operated by the United States and is in clear violation of Title 18 U.S.C. 926(a).

In addition to these new systems, the ATF has operated the Firearm Tracing System for almost 30 years. It contains firearm tracing information from all traces performed in that time period and includes data manually collected from Out-of-Business records and entered into the trace system by ATF, to include:
      – Dealer, importer and manufacturer computer and paper “Bound Book” Out-of-Business records,
      – Dealer “Bound Book” records (computer and/or paper) copied by ATF during annual inspections,
      – ATF Form 4473 copied from dealers and Out-of-Business records,
      – Multiple Firearm Sales reports,
      – data obtained from traditional phone calls to the manufacturer, distributor and final selling dealer and additional data sources, such as some state firearms sales records,
      – Dealer’s “Bound Books” over 20 years old voluntarily sent in to ATF,
      – Data from some antique firearms allowed to be entered in “Bound Books”,
      – Stolen guns reported to ATF and,
      – “Suspect guns” which include (these are ATF’s own examples): individuals purchasing large quantities of firearms (including older C&R firearms), and firearms transferred by dealers with “improper” record keeping.

It’s not known if all of these databases are linked together but it’s obvious that they borrow data from one another. ATF agents have access to this information via the eTrace System and Online LEAD. Here’s the thing, tens of thousands of people at thousands of law-enforcement centers in dozens of countries worldwide also have access to the eTrace System. Yes, these worldwide agencies have access to this information to include a “description of the original retail purchaser.”

But good news, the GAO has researched all of this and it’s all legal and in accordance with U.S.C. so we’re fine and should have nothing to worry about. Right?

It’s be great if the NICS was used just for that, instant checking of a potential purchaser’s background in order to process a lawful transfer and then that check and the information gathered to perform it deleted but it’s not and has not and truthfully, I don’t think it will ever operate like that. NICS is being used to stockpile information on every firearm transfer that has ever occurred. No thanks. I think it’s pretty simple to see how the system as it is currently operated and exists and any “improvements” infringe on our natural rights.

“Universal” background checks means firearm registration. The ATF has stated that such a law could not be enforced without registration because there would be no way to know if a firearm came into an individual’s possession before or after the law was enacted. At some point before or after the law is enacted, the government and ATF have to know what firearms exist in the country and who possesses them. That is the only way that “universal” background checks will ever work.

  • No1hunter August 9, 2019, 11:58 am

I have no problem with universal nationwide background checks for sales and permanent transfers except to family member. Loaning a firearm to a licensed hunter or while target practicing s/b exempt. Anyone caught transferring a firearm in violation of the transfer requirements needs to be severally punished. If someone steal a gun, frankly they s/b fried! They don\’t deserve to be on this earth. As for the \”Red Flag Law,\” I don\’t agree with it as it violated the due process guarantee in the US Constitution. However, if they insist on implementing this law, there must be some sever punishments, both mandatory monitory awards to the gunowner and mandatory jail time for anyone making a vindictive or erroneous claim and I mean everyone, including doctors, politicians, school teacher/administrators, JUDGES (like what recently happened), etc. If they violate your right just to get at your or because of their twisted thinking, they need to lose their rights, including their freedom. It needs to be a felony charge. I would even go as far as they lose their freedom immediately without due process until they can clear their name.

    • Dr Motown August 9, 2019, 12:36 pm

We also need to strengthen NICS so folks with severe psych disorders, especially juvenile sociopaths, get c as captured by the system. That’s probably why the Dayton and Parkland shooters flew under the radar.

      • ROBERT SAAD August 9, 2019, 10:12 pm

Hey Doc, They were not flying under the radar , All of these Mass shooters gave plenty of information on thier intention. The problem as I see it, is law enforcement is afraid to move on the info for fear of civil rights violations. Then look what happens! Thanks ACLU and all the rest of our bleeding hearts!

    • Winston August 9, 2019, 1:04 pm

But the rest of do have a problem giving over 2nd Amendment rights to the unelected Lords of the Manor. You are not a gun owner.

    • JR August 13, 2019, 3:38 pm

You probably would find more support for the background checks they are wanting if they were truly instant and the results and record of the background check were deleted after the check was completed. That’s not is happening now. The information is being stockpiled and entered into databases as we speak in violation of the U.S Code.

  • Michael J August 9, 2019, 11:45 am

Politicians and bureaucrats are good at one thing, exploiting tragedy. They come out after a shooting, jump up and down to express their outrage. Blames the guns and then piles on more useless laws that magically prevents the next shooting.
Then the whole thing starts all over again until there are no more guns.

    • Richard Pitts August 9, 2019, 2:03 pm

Not Monday morning quarter backing. Been hunting most of my life and was taught gun saftey at a early age at home and at school. These things should be manadory for the children teachers and parents. Tv is undesireable to me – I watch doumentaries and old westerns. The video games, teachers and colleges should be monitored as to the things they are teaching. As far as Walmart is concerned It is a dangerous place to shop.

  • Ken Munro August 9, 2019, 11:39 am

    From a friend…

Sad but it’s happened already…..i didnt write it but i can see it happening more and more.
Red Flag Laws. Here’s what will happen…

It’s a Sunday night and your family has all gone to bed. You let the dogs back in and lock the deadbolt like you do every night. All the lights are off now except a couple of night lights scattered throughout the house leaving that dim glow throughout your home. It’s bedtime and work and school are going to come early in the morning. You crawl in bed, kiss your wife and drift off to sleep being thankful for the air conditioning that allows you to pull that heavy quilt up over your shoulder despite the fact it’s still 85 degrees outside. A few hours pass…

0200 Monday morning and your wife taps your leg and says, “baby I heard something outside”. As you sit up in bed you hear the dog growling in the living room and you know something isn’t right. You grab that trusty ole 870 and head into the living room. Your wife grabs her 9mm and heads down the hall to the kids rooms just like you have rehearsed. “Good boy” you say as you enter the living room, trying to calm both the dog and your wife just as splinters fly across the room and the front door flys open. “Oh shit!” As you shoulder your weapon and send a load of 00 Buck across your living room and see the perpetrator fall in a heap. Before the “thank God” can even run across your brain, you see a second man coming in the door and you fire again. This time you hear the pop of your wife’s 9mm as she has joined in the fight. It has to be those damn meth heads from down in town! Just then you are consumed by a wall of bullets as you see multiple muzzle flashes from just outside the door and you realize something isn’t right. You turn to yell at your wife to “get down” just in time to see her take a load of buckshot to the face and her brain matter splatter the wall behind her. You feel the burning as 5.56 bullets Riddle your body. One clips your spine as you’re scrambling away and paralyzes your lower body. The last thing you see before you bleed out is a SWAT guy from your local PD holding your teenage daughter on the floor with a knee in her back as she screams and cry’s because she just watched her parents being murdered.

Why did this happen? You’re no criminal. You’re a Conservative and an honest family man. Your wife is a school teacher and your daughters are on honor roll. Why did this happen?

Well two days ago, you and your wife went down to welcome the new neighbors to the community. Your wife made them some of her “world famous” cookies and you invited them to church on Sunday. Later that afternoon, you got a friend request on Facebook from your new neighbor, which you gladly accepted. They seemed a little odd, but in the few minutes you talked they were pleasant enough. The next day while you and your family sat in church, your new neighbor scrolled through your Facebook profile. He saw that “Trump 2020” post and got infuriated. See, he’s a staunch liberal and he hates your kind. The next thing he sees are the hunting pictures you took last fall when your daughter bagged her first buck. Now he’s seething with fury because he is wholeheartedly against the “slaughter of innocent animals”. Next he sees your post from the last range day with your buddy and sees those scary black assault weapons on the table and that does it! He has to do something about the racist domestic terrorist living next door. He picks up the phone, calls the local Sheriffs Office and reports you as a threat under the new Red Flag law. The SO follows their SOP’s and conducts a no knock warrant because you have now been denied due process and you are considered guilty until proven innocent.

Now you, your lovely wife and two deputies have been killed for nothing. Your daughter will have absolute hell for the rest of her life. She will never be that successful person you dreamed for her to be because of the mental tragedy caused from seeing her parents murdered. The local news paper will report that you were killed after firing on and killing two deputies and that “over a thousand rounds of ammo and 22 guns were confiscated from your residence”.

Oh, those two deputies were just following orders. They left behind families as well and had served their community for over a decade. They didn’t know you were a stand-up guy with a great family. They weren’t allowed time to investigate things under due process. They were told you had threatened your neighbor and were out in the street waving an AR15 around.

This is the reality of Red Flag gun laws.

Innocent people will lose their lives.

Red Flag laws will be used for petty and vengeful reasons without merit.

    They must be stopped.

    • RJ August 9, 2019, 12:23 pm

” You’re no criminal. You’re a Conservative and an honest family man.”

You guys have got to stop thinking and acting like that are the only ones who own guns. There many liberals and others who own guns as well. On top of that they are honest family men. As if all conservatives are honest family men when we know that is not the case for all.

      • John S Stagg August 10, 2019, 12:23 am

What you say is simply not true. Liberals are radical psychopaths. They believe in murdering unborn babies. They welcome murderers, rapists and muslim terrorists from across the border. They support the satanist new world order. Many of then are sodomites and pedaphiles. Antifa are all democrats and they are domestic terrorists. Democrats should not be allowed to own firearms because they are evil!

    • Russ August 9, 2019, 12:25 pm

      Spot on. Thank You

    • David Shaver August 9, 2019, 12:50 pm

Another couple of scenarios which could play out… just the act of one loading or unloading a firearm from a vehicle or the flash of a concealed carry firearm is enough to trigger people into thinking you are a danger to the public.

    • Pro2A August 9, 2019, 1:12 pm

Very well written and unfortunately, a very possible scenario!

    • Roger Bryant August 9, 2019, 1:19 pm

      Great analogy !

      I’m copying everyone I know…

      This should go viral!!!

    • Ben August 9, 2019, 2:16 pm

You sir, have hit the nail right on the head with this graphic fictional account of what will happen to so many law-abiding gun owners in this country, as the deep divide between the left and right grows ever wider and more extreme. As gun owners, we must do everything in our powers to ensure that no red flag laws are passed that do not give due process to those being accused. We are now living in get scary times with the worthless and dangerous pieces of dog excrement holding seats in Congress, who seem hell-bent on stripping our 2A rights away as quickly as possible.

    • Kenny Smith August 9, 2019, 7:03 pm

Well written Ken. Very real possibilities and I along with others hope it never comes to that. By the way RJ , where are these so called libs and dems that are pro gun ? Why don’t we ever hear from any of these people ? Are they afraid to speak up in public ? Don’t get me wrong, I am not doubting you or saying it’s not true, but seriously why don’t they speak up and help the cause !!!

    • DN August 11, 2019, 1:04 pm

Well written and captivating. For those who think it won’t happen…THINK AGAIN.

  • WintersGD August 9, 2019, 11:33 am

Here in Penna. we fill out two forms to buy a handgun, one for a long gun. I’m pure 2A but forms were never in the mix and we live with them, some kind of reasonable review of a person with a diagnosis of mental issues is something we need to look in to. A semi-auto, which I have is not a musket like our fore fathers had. Guns have evolved, people are crazier and their are more of them. Let’s see where this goes but Trump is all we have, a no vote, non-vote is a plus for the lunatic Dems.

    • MAX PARSANLAL August 9, 2019, 9:34 pm

Tyranny and tyrants have evolved as well and so are the lunatics who push their socialist agenda. They (DEMONCRAPS) would like nothing better to see all of our rights and freedoms taken away and our country wind up a shit hole like Venezuela.”Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” -Benjamin Franklin.

    • Anti Communist August 11, 2019, 1:07 am

I am so tired of hearing about how all they had were muskets when the 2A was written. George Washington had ordered AUTOMATIC WEAPONS to be used in the war, but ended up not getting them because they were too expensive. Jefferson and Hamilton were not stupid. They knew full well that arms would continue to improve. That is why they used the word “arms” and not “muskets”. If anyone wants to continue in this charade, allow me to suggest you get off of the computer, find a quill, some ink, and parchment to write down your arguments, then get on a horse and hand deliver it to whoever you think will buy that stupid argument.

  • Eric Holder August 9, 2019, 11:32 am

I look forward to all the posturing to be done and over with. The games with the Republicans and Democrats to reach a conclusion. Once all the guns are banned then we can start a new beginning. This battle, struggle or conflict is not being fought in the real world.

Laws do not prevent crimes from happening and cops are not paid to protect or serve. Protection orders do not stop people from killing their spouse. The Constitution is defunct, common sense is now vaporware and Americans refuse to take responsibility for their own safety.

    Trump is about Trump period.

    • David Shaver August 9, 2019, 12:58 pm

You’re delusional like many Liberals…you think there’s a magic wand that guns will cease to exist in the hands of people once they’re banned. Do believe in unicorns too?

      • Eric Holder August 11, 2019, 8:21 pm

Surely you have misinterpreted what I said.

    • Kenny Smith August 9, 2019, 6:56 pm

DE plane , De plane , boss de plane . Yes you are living on Fantasy Island if you think any part of what you said will come to fruition ! Most Americans do take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their family and sometimes it requires a little more than a baseball bat , kitchen pan or stun gun . Also, most of the smart people believe in the constitution.

      • Eric Holder August 11, 2019, 8:32 pm

Strike two with another on the misinterpretation wagon. What I mean in terms of take responsibility is that if you do NOT carry everyday you are taking an unnecessary chance. If you go into safe zones where you cannot carry you are taking a big chance because “soft targets” seem to be a good place to fish huh? As for fantasies I had a strange dream that some wild and crazy guys crashed two big planes into some skyscrapers. There is probability and possibility. I strongly believe anything IS possible. Do you think the authors of the US Constitution would have ever remotely believed that a document that was meant to be written so simple and clear would need to be so examined and “interpreted” in so many ways to trample upon it? Does the phrase “shall not be infringed” need a scientist to explain. In this world the manipulation of words and ideas is molding the minds of Americans who are unable to discern reality from fiction. BTW I do enjoy science fiction, thanks.

    • John S Stagg August 10, 2019, 12:32 am

Gun laws have never stopped criminals from committing crimes. Gun laws only help a corrupt government commit atrocities against law abiding citizens. If they ever manage to take away the guns the US will become a slaughterhouse with millions of American civilians being murdered by the government.

      • Eric Holder August 11, 2019, 8:47 pm

Yes I agree but incrementally “they” (you know who) are working hard everyday to take away the Second Amendment and our ability to defend against tyranny which is alive and well here in the US of A. The “Red Flag” laws are surely a foot hold, a beginning to remove weapons from individuals and although it may be impossible to confiscate everyone’s firearms, they can and have made many weapons illegal to own. Yes they did grandfather in weapons during the 1994 AWB but I think if people believe it is impossible that their legally obtained firearms can never be made illegal I think they are living in denial. It has already happened in many states.

If/when that happens there will be a conclusion and a “new beginning”. What that means? Think about it? I already view the propaganda and media as engaging in the 2nd Civil War.

  • Ken Munro August 9, 2019, 11:28 am

For the past several outbursts of mania surrounding firearms ownership in American, I have somewhat steered clear of the billions of Facebook soapbox swamps mired in comments from people who pause from watching, “Dancing with the Stars” to chime in on Constitutional law, history and the intent of certain portions of the United States Bill of Rights. It’s not out of apathy (far from it) or ignorance (I have a firm knowledge base on law and history) that I avoid these debates. I have learned after nearly a lifetime of engaging in similar debates that one side rarely sways the other. There is a unbridgeable chasm, a rift between the two sides.

Rather than sit here and again attempt to sway opinion, or put forward quote after quote from the Founders of this nation and framers of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, I would rather pose a series of questions to the most vehement of the gun control crowd.

We need some background first – there are approximately 9,000,000 (nine million) AR-15 variant rifles in civilian hands in the United States. There may be near that number in AK variants among other similar rifle configurations. For the sake of discussion we will say 20,000,000 (twenty Milllion semi-auto rifles). This is not including shotguns, pistols, bolt action/precision rifles. There is an estimated 300,000,000 (Three hundred million) firearms in the United States. Now, let’s take our reactionary and emotional approach and attempt to remove these rifles from civilian hands due to the 250 people that are killed every year from rifle injuries (now not all those rifles are semi-auto, many are bolt action hunting accidents).

Pretend for a moment a bill to seize (as is proposed by some) these styles of firearms, were drafted by Congress, debated, voted on and passed with a majority and went on to the Sensate where it was debated, voted on and passed. The bill may then face the Judicial branch where a Supreme Court challenge would occur or where the bill would require further debate and examination. Now let’s pretend the Supreme Court agrees and the President as well – the bill is then law. The AR-15, AK, FAL, Daewoo and every rifle like them is hereby illegal, like cocaine, heroine, or Marijuana! Essentially we now have the meat of the issue. What next?

Do you stand in favor of state sponsored violence against those who, yesterday were law abiding citizens, with no criminal record whatsoever, however today are in possession of a federally illegal firearm? How do we logistically round up 20,000,000 of these rifles? At sometimes $2,000 in value how do you pay for them? What course of action would you propose be taken against let’s say the 1,000,000 (one million) gun owners who adamantly refuse to turn over their AR-15? Do you propose an overwhelming violent force of action against them, using the full scope of the US defense apparatus? Do you propose we KILL these citizens if we must? What is the end game?

Are you willing to see violence, and the deaths of tens of thousands, in order to prevent the annual death of 250 people from rifle injuries? Do you wish to dispatch men with guns to enforce your new utopian law of the land?

The questions I propose, deserve logical answers, not emotional pleas.

I’m writing this to all reactionary statists who make emotional pleas and have emotional reactions towards certain inalienable rights that are based on the fundamental rights of self defense. I do not engage in the typical Facebook political debates, because I know there exists an unbridgeable chasm between the leftist and statist view on firearms ownership and my view. There will never be an understanding. Theirs is founded in utopian views of what could or should be, not founded in reality.

Firearms exist, therefore it is incumbent upon all able bodied persons to know their use, function and application to be able to employ them against those who would do us harm. I am done with the debate. There is no debate on the 2nd Amendment. It was drafted as the 2nd, immediately after the 1st for a reason. Any attempt to thwart it, is an act of treason. And to address the myriad comments made by the ill informed and uneducated (they were talking about muskets!), the founders did understand that technology would improve, as they were highly educated men who witness major advancements in their own time.

The RIFLE as it existed at the drafting of the Bill of Rights was the most advanced, accurate and lethal personal defense weapon ever seen on the earth at that time. It was MORE ADVANCED than the arms held by the entire British Military (Brown Bess Musket). The freedom to own and produce arms in the colonies, birthed the Pennsylvania rifled bore which with precision lethality allowed the colonists to put .36-.54 caliber lead balls into the cranial vault of the red coats. You want to apply the “technology of the times” to the 2nd Amendment, then let’s do the same to the first. Ban free speech on the internet, TV, Radio, and every other means not able to be produced only on a Gutenberg press or a soap box. Rifles, their ownership, their production, gave us this nation. Anyone who would remove them is no countryman of mine. That is all I am saying.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” -Thomas Jefferson

“The Constitution of most of our states, and the United States, assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves: that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.” Thomas Jefferson

“I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” -George Mason

“Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived the use of them.” -Thomas Paine

We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. -Patrick Henry

    • Mike in ATL August 9, 2019, 12:34 pm

The anti-gun movement is driven by emotion, not by logical or historical arguments. Unless you can condense your dissertation down to a single sentence that carries more emotional weight than their fear of being massacred in public, you’re not going to persuade a single one of them.

    • Chuck Matson August 9, 2019, 12:36 pm

      Well said sir!

    • Shan August 9, 2019, 1:56 pm

I wish every American could read this. Thank you sir.

    • Eric Holder August 11, 2019, 9:07 pm

The statistics and numbers are staggering. You ask how would it be done? Confiscation? One at a time. Sound crazy? If an item/object is made illegal they can be confiscated once they are in view. Would they need to go door to door and take them? Not necessarily. I live in a major east coast city and Heroin and Crack are suppose to be illegal. This city wants to support the illegal possession and use of these narcotics. They have used tax dollars to place used needle receptacles for conscientious addicts to deposit their needles yet I find them on the sidewalk everyday. The Police do not see anything and people are shooting up and relieving themselves out in the open. The standards for human behavior in this regard is do what you want. If the government is dealing with the god fearing “law abiding gun owner” who is constantly shaking in their boots and quoting ATF regulations then I think I might foresee them lining up to turn in their illegal weapons. Sorry but I can only think of a few who fought for their rights in the US regarding these issues but were murdered by the government. I recall no one who gathered forces to fight with them.

  • Grant Stevens August 9, 2019, 10:48 am

If we really want someone to blame for these mass shootings, blame the politicians of both parties who have violated their oaths of office to author and sign legislation that directly infringes upon the unalienable right of American citizens to keep and bear arms. Blame judges who legislate from the bench to undermine, arrogate, abridge and subvert the Second Amendment. Blame the federal bureaucrats and their agencies who arbitrarily disarm the American people with their unconstitutional rules and regulations. Blame them all for imposing “gun free” zones (victim disarmament zones) and “red flag” laws on the public so depraved cowards with guns can murder at will without fear of being killed by an armed citizen. Blame the generally dumb sheeple who willingly forfeit their hard-won right to defend themselves to an all-powerful police state so they can feel “safe and secure.” Blame an increasingly Godless and dependent society hooked on psychotropic drugs that instills mental weakness and helplessness in the people from cradle to grave. Blame yourself for not having the backbone to stand-up to the politicians, judges, bureaucrats and hyper-civilized culture that seek to eviscerate your Bill of Rights and destroy your independence. God, guns and guts made you free and only they can keep you free. We allow the Constitution to be violated at our own peril.

  • Silverbullet August 9, 2019, 10:37 am

Really timed attacks arent they. Sure is coincidental these always happen in time to cause uproars to get the democratic agenda of confiscation. As laid out red flag laws can and are causing deaths. Anyone with a grudge or spiteful can trigger one. Wouldnt it be better if they are mentally not allowed to have them seen by a dr that treats them be with the person when he finds out he must give up his guns.

  • Mike Bolton August 9, 2019, 10:35 am

My rights are not some bargaining chip so a politician can get what he wants.
    Trump has lost my vote.

    Time for civil war.

    • Mike in ATL August 9, 2019, 12:47 pm

Stop with the “civil war” bullshit already. All that does is make you look like a fool.

    • Howell Thompson August 9, 2019, 1:24 pm

Eventually all of us will be viewed as felons if you are a true American patriot. They have been chipping away at ALL of our freedoms my entire life time. I am a veteran and know for sure just how corrupted our system really is and how fast the truth can be twisted to make it mean what the government wants it to mean. Right and wrong in a court of law is a joke and we all are living under tyranny right now as the country is being sold out completely . This will not end peacefully and that’s been their intent all along . Social engineering in the public indoctrination centers pretending to be schools and colleges has failed. MSM lies at will as do the politicians. You lie to them and its a felony but they lie to you and its legal and politics. To think that we can vote our way out of this mess is really insane! I an 70 years old so I have seen a lot of this and our forefathers would have already acted on this and I’m not talking milk and cookies here!

    • Roger Bryant August 9, 2019, 1:37 pm

      DITTO, I’m with you!

    • Mark Wynn August 9, 2019, 5:13 pm

      So, that’ll show President Trump.
      Then who will you vote-for?
Have you heard the old saying, “cutting off your nose to spite your face?”

  • johnnyraygun August 9, 2019, 10:11 am

We need a new (R) candidate,,,, Donnie would sell his wife on a street corner to keep power. Donnie is not about his support for 2A, he is pandering for votes and thinks we will blindly support him. Ain’t going to happen. We have the Supreme court on our side, this is more than the “as the wind blows” fake politician.
W (R) wasted two years of total control of every branch of government and got nothing….Tell the (R) party to put up another candidate who is truly an 2A supporter. Write your representatives and let them know this guy is fake and get someone who is a true supporter of 2A, not a vote panderer.

I support 2A and many NRA stands. But I also look at many issues No. single issue person. Of greater concern is the membership of elected in Congressional Progressive Caucus

    • Mic Well August 9, 2019, 11:36 am

Very well said….making us accountable for some one else’s crime is never good idea ….

    • Ricky B. August 9, 2019, 12:20 pm

Are you actually surprised by this? Why?

That orange clown had lived his entire life as a liberal Democrat right up until it wasn’t convenient for him anymore… I was completely shocked when the NRA donated $35 million to that clown’s 2016 campaign. I mean has anybody who’s ever paid a hooker for sex been stupid enough to believe their whore somehow was actually “in love” with them?

  • Life Member NRA Wendell White August 9, 2019, 10:10 am

The Right to bear arms will
    Not be infringed!
This is a human problem, not a gun problem.
Mr Trump you promised not to mess with the 2nd Amendment!. It is our right to keep and bear armes.
This bill your fooling around with is not a wise choice.

  • Lee W August 9, 2019, 10:06 am

Several states already have “Red Flag” laws including mine. Although not a fan of it I will not be moving because of it. So far I have heard no horror stories coming from Indiana’s Red Flag law.

As a gun shop owner I do support the background checks as I have witnessed illegal sales before in gun shows, basically someone that just tried to buy a gun from our table which is an “FFL” table, got DENIED at our table by NICS and then I watched them go to a table across from ours and walk out with a handgun. This JACKASS is chipping at YOUR gun rights,, so maybe some of you need to wake up? I do not know why they ware Denied by NICS I just know I saw them buy a handgun after that.

Like a few have said, you will have 2 choices come November 2020,, better and worse,, that sums it up so maybe enlighten yourselves to this fact.

    • Nick T August 9, 2019, 10:43 am

I support background checks because they are part of the original intent of the Constitution. There are 3 provisions in the Constitution that not only guarantee the Right, but also recognize the Duty to Keep and Bear Arms; Article I, § 8, Cls. 15 & 16, and Article II, § 2, Cl. 1.
Those articles are built off the original colonial statutes that required the Militia commander to enroll every able-bodied man into the militia, and check that he had a working rifle, ammo, and designated accoutrement. A reading of the statutes tell us that there would be ongoing checks. How much more efficient would this be, and how would it help to reduce crime?
It’s all there right in front of us, but the so-called pro-2nd community not only disregards this “necessary” aspect of our law, they disparage it.

    • Rouge1 August 9, 2019, 11:06 am

So you do support unconstitutional gun laws. I guess an ffl wouldn’t be much advantageous and you wouldn’t have captive patrons that you could fleece for 10% everytime an arm changes hands. A lot of gun dealers love these unconstitutional gun laws because it’s a boon for their pocket books. Guys like you are the problem. I will probably see you on the battlefield loser.

      • Thomas Jefferson August 9, 2019, 6:31 pm

Rouge1, SPOT ON champ!!! FFL’s will love all these new mandatory universal background checks as they can SHAFT you for attempting to utilize your GOD-GIVEN right to purchase a weapon.

      • Lee W August 9, 2019, 9:23 pm

Captain dipshit (Rouge1) The 10% markup in firearms is barely a living wage.

Do you honestly think a business makes money selling things at cost?

If you are talking about a transfer fee they vary with maybe a $25 average.

        NOW for some more enlightenment;
Did YOU know if YOU sell a firearm to a FELON,, You just became a felon?
Now, how do you know the guy is not a felon? Ask him? Yeah that should work.
        OR
You can have a transfer done for $25 and not risk it.

    • Robert Morley August 9, 2019, 12:05 pm

You said we only have “Two Choices”!! WRONG! Last Presidential Election, we had FOUR Choices! This is the kind of thinking that now has us in this mess!! Gary Johnson, Libertarian, was who I voted for! Why? I felt he was the best, all-around choice! No other Political Party supports the 2nd Amendment like the Libertarian Party! Are they perfect? NO! But which Party is? We the voters need to get out of out of our “Political Brain-washing” and start thinking and voting outside the box! Both the Dem’s and now The Republicans, Trump, are betraying Their Oath Of Office and We the People!

      • Lee W August 9, 2019, 9:28 pm

How well did your Gary Johnson vote do?

Yeah Ross Perot was the most successful 3rd party ever and did not work for him either.

Don’t worry, there should be enough “wise” voters to keep you in some sort of gun rights while you toss your vote in the mud.

    • Gray Squirrel August 9, 2019, 5:16 pm

I agree with you Lee W , sold guns at ohio gun shows only to see the very same thing, denied by us, walk 5 feet away, buy a gun, or in the isle , are you selling ? yes , how much , x amount, here you go, thanks , no paper work, no back ground, buyer could have been released from prison for murder, or wanted for same, rapist, child molester , list goes on , i’m the biggest supporter of the 2nd, served for it, fought for it, but people dying because some nut who shouldn’t have a firearm, or gave up there right to own/have a firearm has a grudge an decides to go postal , there’s a problem , i support background checks.

    • JR August 13, 2019, 3:55 pm

It’s very plain. If you support “universal” background checks you support firearm registration. If the government actually cared, they would as vigorously pursue the truly illegal transfers and crimes that take place instead of making up new laws that simply harass and criminalize good people.

  • KimberproSS August 9, 2019, 9:54 am

Trump is the last stop of any legislation. He has demonstrated thus far that he upholds the law of the land. Trump is getting berated by the Democrats on the border and ICE raids, but all they are doing is upholding the law. The Dems choose to ignore those laws that they don’t agree. The people we need to focus are the congressmen to ensure any laws are acceptable. Trump is likely playing the politics to position himself for strong negotiating leverage for other legislation. Thankfully our founding fathers design the three branches of checks and balances to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Judicial branch will weigh in on any gun control legislation. Albeit concerning, we have to trust the system to make the right decisions when it comes to Constitutional rights violations.

    • Rouge1 August 9, 2019, 11:11 am

The judicial branch has already taken your rights to bear arms what are you talking about? Have you seen a constitutional amendment to infringe upon the right to bear arms?

    • Sid b August 9, 2019, 11:34 am

Right on. Download balletpedia congressional progressive caucus. Vote them out. Our real problem on many issues.

Anyone that thinks he is any different than those that were here before him, is either blind, dumb, or easy to sway. He like those before him most going back to the civil war are there because they were chosen, not by the people, but by those that work for Satan, the NWO, and any other thing that wishes to do Satan’s bidding. If you think that choosing what is considered the lesser of two evils, is best, then you might as well just keep thinking your part of the good, when the reality is your just as bad as those that vote for the worst of the two evils. Little by little, from the first day the 2nd amendment just like the rest was chipped at, it has and will be chipped at, until there is nothing left, but you and yours on their knees with nothing to defend against evil but your tongue, and that will not stop what has happened to almost a billion people who thought just like you. Donald Trump is a puppet, wake up or become a slave and or die for being blind.

I will vote for Trump in 2020, just like I did in 2016. There are several issues I DON’T agree with him about, which is why I supported Ted Cruz until the bitter end, but I believe my choices are socialism or Trump. No brainer. I’ve been an LEO for 26+ years. I’m a Deputy Sheriff. I won’t enforce ANY of these proposed laws. I took an oath to the Constitution of the United States of America. I believe the Red Flag laws violate the 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendments for sure. Circle the wagons, folks… Pocahantas is on the warpath…

    • Derik August 9, 2019, 10:38 am

  • Robert Frasconi August 9, 2019, 9:18 am

The Liar-in-Chief is at it again.

Newsflash: Donald J Trump is anti-gun and always has been. He lied to you to get into office, and he does not give a damn about your inherent rights, your constitutionally-protected rights, or the constitution itself.

He is a morally bankrupt horsetrader with no core principles.

With DJT, everything is negotiable, even the most bedrock of inherent rights.

    • Strat57L August 9, 2019, 11:57 am

Finally… Someone speaks the truth! tRump has never been a conservative or “family values” type person. He’s simply a greedy and narcissistic fascist tyrant and wannabe dictator. The man, his family, and campaign personnel met with and conspired with Russia and others for profit and to gain the presidency. Yes, that makes him a treasonous criminal and pathological liar! This old republican isn’t fooled by his B.S. one bit. Besides, this site printed a article just a while back warning us of his intention to ban suppressors! Yes, just like the bump stocks, via executive order! Wake up! I’d surely rather have “red flag” laws and universal background checks than a total ban on anything. Remember… The second amendment clearly begins with “A well regulated Militia”, those of us that own firearms are the militia… so “well regulated” should be the focus of our efforts, and that shouldn’t include any type of ban!

  • barry August 9, 2019, 9:04 am

A ban on killing people has not stopped “PEOPLE from killing PEOPLE”. Why would a ban on any king of weapon make any difference. THERE IS NO SIMPLE ANSWER TO THIS. What makes sense is for law makers to sit down together like adults, not school kids, realize the problem is people then work on why. They need to work on their own short comings first.

  • Alej August 9, 2019, 8:58 am

” President Trump is asking lawmakers to enact a series of reforms aimed at preventing mass killings … .”

Burn the perpetrators publicly at the stake, nationally televised. That will give these sicko Rambo punks something to occupy their minds, instead of punishing the millions of law-abiding American gun owners.

  • DrThunder88 August 9, 2019, 8:44 am

Gun Owners: “A vote for a non-Republican is a vote for more gun control!”
    Republicans: *enact more gun control*
    Gun Owners: 😮

  • Bob Stewart August 9, 2019, 8:42 am

What a knee jerk reaction: ‘We need more laws and more bureaucracy’. The guy that was throwing bottles said in an interview that 1) his mom forgot her pistol and 2) the CBP agent forgot hers. So why did he say that? Because lead is far more effective in stopping a shooter than bottles. He got seriously wounded for his efforts and although he slowed the shooter he did not stop the shooter. How many times do we have to see than the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Right off the top of my head I can think of two shooting incidents where a lone good guy would not have stopped the shooter 1) the UT tower shooter in 66 2) the Vegas shooter in 17. Both were in a high location above their targets. Most of the mass shooters have been at ground level so if you are carrying you can engage.

  • Dean August 9, 2019, 8:13 am

Those of you that have said you are considering not voting for trump if he makes some bad decisions concerning your guns rights, remember this.
We are given 2 choices every time its voting time. If you don’t vote for him, YOU vote for a Dem who has vowed to take all guns away. Sorry its either trump or No guns at all.
    DO the math.
He’ll probably make some bad decisions, but the alternative is 10 times worse. Please don’t screw the rest of us because your mad at him.
Pray He stands up and that this country rebounds back from the horrible path it continues to go down.

    • johnnyraygun August 9, 2019, 9:33 am

The only firearms problem we had under Obama was artificial high prices. Donnie is about which way the wind blows. Reciprocity and the “Hearing Protection Act” has gone nowhere and the (R) had total comtrol of all four branches of government for two years, the Senate, House of reps, Supreme court and the presidency and they never even brought it up. We need a 2A president in office and Donnie is not the one.

Talk abut a lost opportunity, that will never happen again. We need a change and the (R) lacks the backbone to challenge this loser of a president. We are screwed and we have no options. Donnie got my vote once, but I got burned and he will not get my vote again. The best option is to find a 2A (R) and challenge Donnie, but the (R) just wants to win at all costs. Not for me

    • skipNclair August 9, 2019, 10:00 am

A blivet, is a blivit, no matter what, and there is no difference, you are led to believe such so that you will believe that hope exist, and will not revolt to revolution. !0 lbs of manure in a 5 pound bag is no different then another 10 lbs of manure in a 5 pound bag, and Trump is no different then most that came and went before him since the civil war. The man that would stand up to the evil that now represents this position, would be shot or poisoned before he could win the election, if the evil that you do not see thought he would win. Perhaps you like many others will wake up before it is to late, and not follow with ignorance, and or blindness.

    • Irish-7 August 9, 2019, 10:09 am

I hold similar thoughts. Refusing to vote for Trump for any reason further expands the Democrats advantage. The media has already downplayed the benefits of Trump’s presidency. Social media is highly biased against all Republicans. We can expect to return to Obama conditions with a Democrat in the White House and Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Democrats will be using names from tombstones, illegals and busing homeless folks for votes. In order for Trump to win another term, he’ll need every person that supported him in 2016.

  • James August 9, 2019, 8:02 am

I’m not going to get excited about anything at this point. He may just be trying to pacify the progressives with some tough talk. But maybe it’s just that, talk. Trump knows who voted for him and what they expect from him.

    • SD August 9, 2019, 9:04 am

      He damn sure better

  • akjc77 August 9, 2019, 8:01 am

I have about 5k followers on Twitter all of which are Trump supporters/Patriots who are pro 2A. And I can tell you all but a few cult like followers of his are absolutely furious. The GOP are who is pushing it on him, Marco Rubio wrote the TAPS bill, Dan Crenshaw is pushing it too. We must flood the airwaves and let em know we won’t tolerate red flag confiscation or assault weapons ban!

    • No1hunter August 9, 2019, 11:42 am

So they would rather a socialist democrat who is hell bent on removing ALL GUNS get in. Hum, maybe the liberals are right, conservatives are not very bright! Tell your follower to think for blow hot air out their rears!

  • MAS August 9, 2019, 7:40 am

I will NOT vote for Trump if he does not back off on gun control. ALL infringements in place now are already unconstitutional and should be repealed! I will campaign for someone who “Primarys” Trump!

    • Ralph Blasier August 9, 2019, 8:32 am

If you don’t vote for Trump,
someone far worse will get in.

      Even with background checks
and red-flag laws, he is holding
      firm on not outlawing black
      rifles.

      • Jim August 9, 2019, 8:54 am

Really?? He caved on bump stocks and now he is caving on more worthless gun control. I will vote against him if he caves. Period!!!

      • SD August 9, 2019, 9:07 am

Yes, that’s called “progressive”. They work their way up to confiscation a little at a time

      • SD August 9, 2019, 9:21 am

Better wake up Trump. You lose the NRA support and you lose the election. Your voters may not vote democrat, but they will not show up for you. Take it to the bank.

      • johnnyraygun August 9, 2019, 9:43 am

I disagree, the heads of the (R) need to come up with a challenger to Donnie and do it now. Trump’s behavior, attitude self centered power grabbing will do anything to win, including selling us down the road. Fortunately we have the Supreme court to decide the 2A infringement rights.
Write you elected officials and tell them we need another candidate to challenge the Orange Blob. He will not win in 2020, thanks to crazy mass murderers and his support of them.

      • BigKahuna August 9, 2019, 10:05 am

Third rail, Mister President, Third rail…

  • JGinNJ August 9, 2019, 6:48 am

The pressure right now on politicians to “do something” is white hot intense. Our best interests are served by a) explaining why the proposed law does not work or is not worth the loss of freedom (we are not having much success with that) and b) alternatives to address the mental health issues – that means spending money – to stop the insane, whether they shoot, stab, drive vehicles into crowds, poison or bomb.

    • George August 9, 2019, 7:28 am

I agree…The pressure is great on Politicians to do something. Whatever they do will NOT make a damn difference concerning mass shooter’s. Democrats a very good at spending tax payers money while lining their own pockets with zero results. I’ve always said, never trust Politician. We have no George Washington’s, no
Thomas Jefferson’s, No Samuel Adam’s, just spineless professional business managers.
We are in dire need of American Patriots.

  • Norman Dvorak August 9, 2019, 5:58 am

Mr. President. You stated when you were running for President that you would support the 2nd Amendment 100%. Backing Red Flag Laws is not backing the 2nd Amendment. Red Flag laws will cost more lives than these Mass Shootings. We Honest Law abiding Gun Owners of America will be fighting for our rights because Red flag Laws violate our 4th Amendment rights and when someone bursts down my door I will be coming out shooting and probably loose my life just like many other gun owners. Your fault for not doing what you said you would do.

  • Jerry Holcomb August 9, 2019, 5:10 am

These new gun laws will not be able to stop these insane people from getting guns. Guns are a dime a dozen. I can go out on the street and buy any gun I want that’s even untraceable but I’m not. I’m just trying to get a point across. I’m sorry for the loss of those killed in these mass shootings.we need to regulate all the violence that’s on these videos and do away with them also we need to cut out all the violence of rape and murder on these shows and movies. Why not get rid of them so people won’t get the idea that it’s ok. Just saying

    • Silverbullet August 9, 2019, 9:51 am

Do you think you can buy guns a dime a dozen. Well if you do there and you the buyer are the criminal. Legal gun owner wil not even think of it. Why didnt you report the illegal sale. Or the offers THATS PART OF THE PROBLEM NOT CARING ENOUGH TO HELP IT BE STOPPED.

  • catawampus August 6, 2019, 1:51 pm

If you are going to base laws, legislation on the behavior of an obviously insane person, gunman/shooter, why not go a step further and base the laws on their manifestos? And be sure and avoid anyone with valid thoughts on the topic like the NRA. We’ve been down this road before and it hasn’t worked.
Although there is nothing funny about innocents loosing their lives so pointlessly, it all reminds me of the guy that said” I do whatever the voices in my wifes head tell me to do” How about enforcing the laws already on the books? And of course if you don’t agree with this………………

  • SuperG August 6, 2019, 10:31 am

More “Red Flag” laws will mean more Americans getting murdered by police, when they violate their Constitutional right to Due Process.

    • Cirus August 9, 2019, 4:44 am

It won’t just be citizens getting murdered. A lot of law enforcement will be lost in the process. No everybodys gonna give up there guns plus there will many officers who will refuse to go through with it.

      • Nick M August 9, 2019, 8:40 pm

Only in your leftists dreams. Disarming the citizenry to make the police state simple is the goal. All police that do not publicly state they will not enforce theses illegal laws is on the side of the leftists.
