Russian firm PUF GUN — Perfect Units for Guns — released a set of head-turning quad-stack magazines for AK-74-pattern firearms that are starting to make their way into the U.S. These monster “coffin” magazines hold twice as much as a standard mag — 60 rounds of 5.45x39mm.

Designed for competition use the PUF GUN “Four-Row” mags feature a modern polymer construction with reinforcing ribs and added grip texturing for use with gloves. PUF GUN makes them in khaki, sand, olive drab and of course, black.

Loaded quad-stack magazines are a little heavy but empty they only way a fraction more than double-stack magazines. Unloaded these quad-stack mags weigh just under 10 ounces — loaded with 60 rounds of ammo it’s going to be a little over two pounds.

A small number of these magazines hit the streets late last year and so far feedback has been mostly positive.

These don’t have steel reinforcements which helps keep prices down. Still, these are somewhat uncommon and the AK community can be pretty eclectic — a standard price will be hard to pin down.

They are available from American retailers like Legion Firearms for $99. The retail price in Russia is closer to $70.

PUF GUN makes AK magazines in many other varieties and prices for their more commonly patterned magazines are very affordable. Hopefully, once the freshness of these 60-rounders wears off, prices will come down.

It will also be nice to see a military-grade version of these mags with steel reinforcements. There’s a lot of variety in AK builds and some guns can be really tough on magazines.

PUF GUN wouldn’t be the first company to develop all-polymer magazines then follow them up with steel-reinforced versions. Industry leader Magpul did that exact thing when they broke into the AK magazine business.

Another neat thing to see from this company are some of their transparent magazines. Time will tell how well these hold up, especially with hard use, but these will still be popular based on their novelty alone.

AC Unity makes a great quad stack magazine for 7.63 X 39 AKs. It also has a last round bolt hold open follower. I am a big fan.

These would be the bomb in a krink with a giggle switch. Or a real rpk74.
Which is likely what they were made for.

The number of rounds in a magazine does not matter.
An A55HOLE bent on destruction can kill a bunch of people with a hand full of 10 rounders.
And background checks only show what they have done in the past, not their future intentions

Have you noticed the hysteria the past few days? I tuned into my Sunday morning Sports Talk Radio station yesterday and this was the topic that had the most uninformed, idiotic statements. 60% of callers identified a AR-15 as being a U.S. Military issued full auto capable rifle that anyone could stroll to LGS and pick up with no background check. Some coherent sane people tried to point out that there are current Background Checks, have been for a long time, and that a AR is just a sporting rifle. The question now is, the 3 letter folks were warned by people more than twice about this nut. So why no action?

Guns are dangerous in direct relationship to the dipshit holding them.
Nicholas Cruz should have been removed from society long before he made his decision to murder kids.
Schools have to be given the authority to arrest and detain just like other law enforcement.

Given the US Constitution, the high degree of incompetence and prejudice among school officials at all levels, and your obvious limitations at thought exercises, let’s put an indefinite hold on that particular line of stupid.

The limiting factor is the weight and bulk. A six lbs. rifle with a six lbs. magazine hanging below…

    • Capn Stefano February 16, 2018, 8:34 pm

Still weighs less than a G3. For me a mag like this or a drum is for defense where you are expecting immediate attack, or for assaulting a position with a team. Not things I would normally carry around in a truck or home defense gun

  • Kevin February 16, 2018, 11:40 am

I’m thinking that most of the AK-47s are chambered in 7.62 x 39, what am I missing here?

    • Keith Barton February 16, 2018, 12:03 pm

The article is on AK-74 mags, not AK-47. 47s are 7.62×39, 74s are not.

    • RD Buck February 16, 2018, 12:09 pm

yes ak-47’s are chambered in 7.62×39 , however this is referring to ak-74, not 47, which is chambered in the 5.45×39

      • Capn Stefano February 16, 2018, 8:35 pm

For defense the ’74 wins hands down. The ’47 would be a better choice for brush or short range deer hunting (I wouldn’t use one for a Muley, though)

  • Nemo February 16, 2018, 10:43 am

I wish they’d come up with one for 5.56 AK’s. The PUFGUN mags are a bit expensive, but so are Circle 10 mags.

  • Mike Bolton February 16, 2018, 9:40 am

So, a 73 round drum is still 40 bucks cheaper. Ill use the money saved, to fill the drum.

    • Capn Stefano February 16, 2018, 8:36 pm

What 73 round drum? Are they being imported, finally?

  • Cyrus February 16, 2018, 7:58 am

I Need 60 rounds like I need root canal. I’m telling you our 2A rights are increasingly becoming doomed because of this kind of stuff! Help me understand why I’m wrong please . . .

    • Mr. Wonderful February 16, 2018, 8:12 am

      Hey Cyrus,
Do you have your Tampon inserted “too tight”, or what little ‘girl’ ???

    • Gyver February 16, 2018, 8:46 am

      “shall not be infringed”, understand?

    • mauser6863 February 16, 2018, 9:38 am

Welcome back, Cyrus the anti-gun troll. Hope that George Soros paycheck is worth selling out the freedoms of your fellow citizens.

I’ll make it simple for you. No one cares what you want. You likely don’t know the difference between a AK47, AKM, AK74 or a AK74U and certainly don’t own one of them.

Freedom means that you don’t get to interfere with the rights of others. Post all you want, but we know who you are, so I guess its time to create another account.

    • Patrick February 16, 2018, 9:59 am

Not the best timing for this article

    • Jake February 16, 2018, 11:25 am

Ever notice we all have a crate of high cap mags, but when we shoot from the bench or prone we only use the 20’s or smaller?

      • Kevin February 16, 2018, 12:02 pm

I made my own shooting bench and put a door in the top for the mag. I close the door for shooting other guns
        Problem solved.

    • Keith Barton February 16, 2018, 12:16 pm

      No Cyrus,
Our 2A rights are comming in danger from whiney left wing, progressive, communist A-holes that know the only way for them to gain full control of this Country, is to take away our guns. That has been the first thing every communist country has done, then they start killing their people by the millions. All the lefties say us poor people who cling to our guns could never beat our military. Two things here. 1, look at the poor, backward people in the Mideast. How many years have they held off both U.S. and Russian militaries ? 2, the Left thinks that the military would back them because they are the government. I live / work around military bases, the majority of rank and file military person I know or have asked the question of, most if not all personnel would walk off base and liberate equipment as the left.

    • Cyrus February 16, 2018, 1:08 pm

Fellas – I am far from a lefty internet troll. I am a full lifetime member of the NRA, belong to a local gun club, own a Bushmaster, SAR3, Remington 700, Mossberg persuader, several 10/22’s and various handguns which are all legally registered here in the shit State of CT. I have a CCP and am very much Pro 2A supporter who voted for Trump. Why do you need to attack me for trying to protect all of our God Given rights by saying that there is some stuff that falls under the category of insane and usually ends up in the hands of some God Dam maniac that does something so evil that it reflects on all of us sane legal tax paying upright citizens. Is it so bad that I think there could be some kind of compromise? I would, and have said this before, that I would trade in firmer background checks for total reciprocal CCP throughout the USA! Is that such a bad idea?

      • Wes February 18, 2018, 12:03 am

Cyrus, it’s people like you that claim to be on the right side yet are willing and wanting to compromise that have placed us into this position. Because of you and people like you, we have to fight to defend our rights. “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Ben Franklin

    • Kenny Smith February 16, 2018, 9:29 pm

This kinda stuff is being made because it makes it a litlle easier or more fun for the shooter, usually. It’s the liberal , dem assholes twats that are trying to doom our 2nd amendment rights. I’m an average gun enthusiast that enjoys 60 rounds sometimes and I do not appreciate some twat trying to mess with that option to me and others like me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
