Chassis-based rifle systems have become all the rage for precision shooting. Well, Remington took that one step further, or perhaps that is one step shorter, with the Remington 700 Chassis Pistol (CP).
This new contender is a standard 700 short action mounted in a mini chassis with a 12.5” barrel and a stabilizing brace rather than a stock; resulting in what is legally considered a “pistol.” The 700 CP is available in .300 ACC Blackout, .308 Win, and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Remington sources at SHOT Show 2020 indicated that velocities in the 2,400 fps range were possible even with the 12.5” barrel, making this a solid option for hunting. The barrel is threaded to support adding a muzzle brake or a suppressor.
The chassis forend has the popular MLOK mounting slots covering its relatively short length. However, this would still support mounting a bipod or laser as needed.
The chassis takes AICS-type magazines and, of course, the handy little blaster takes all the popular Remington-style triggers. The factory trigger is adjustable and set at ~3.5 lbs out of the box.
The SB Tactical adjustable pistol brace is mounted on a standard AR buffer tube connected to the chassis. This arrangement means that one can also purchase a folding brace to create an even smaller package during transport.
The top of the 700 SA receiver is appropriately dressed with a Picatinny rail for mounting the needed optics. All in all, this is a very handy and portable firearm that will be right at home almost anywhere, be it a tree stand or a close-quarters shoot house.

As a youngster I was always interested in any articles on XP-100’s and other Hand Cannons. It looks like an experimenters dream.
I am confused. A bolt action that one would attach a laser to and use in a shoot house?
The way this is all going, it’s completely ridiculous for the ATF to even bother with the whole, “short barreled rifle” category of firearms any longer. You have them now. All legal without the paperwork and $200.00 tax, and / or waiting period. Is anyone going to honestly tell me, there is anybody who would buy a Remington 12″ barreled 700 CP, to shoot it one handed? The whole idea is preposterous.
I agree Bill, The only reason I would buy a short Barrel pistol,( and it wouldn’t be bolt action, nor 308) Is to have a shtf gun with out the paper work. No one is going to worry about shouldering one when society breaks down. I wouldn’t want to use in my house, to much noise, so truck gun or on the streets.
Perfect configuration for L/H strong side shooters. Not great for R/H folks. Since its a pistol grip configuration, you don’t need to get yor hand out of the line of bolt travel. You either break grip on pistol grip or if Brace is strapped on your arm: you must reach over or under to manipulate the bolt. I thought bolt action handgun builders knew that lesson already.
The only time anyone’s going to shoot this like a pistol is if the ATF is watching.
I’m right handed. Always shot left handed. Although I can shoot either, I do prefer left. Even with a bow I always chose left. Since I bought Mathews I have switched to right. Just as deadly with either. Practice is key. I found shooting a bolt left handed early on as a youth was quicker for me. lol
