Remington Ammunition asks, ‘Where’s the Ammo’?

Current Events Industry News This Week Uncategorized

Jason Vanderbrink, the president of Remington Ammunition, put out a video last week titled “Where’s the ammo?”

“You know what, I am sick and tired of not being able to find Remington Ammunition on the shelves,” says Vanderbrink.  “We are fixing that.”

Vanderbrink explains that following its bankruptcy proceedings in the Fall, it took some time for Big Green to find its footing once again.  Executives needed to hire new workers and sign contracts with suppliers as part of a larger plan to get things up and running.

“American manufacturing is about to roar.  And Remington Ammunition is back,” says Vanderbrink.  “Our work force is doing fantastic, our raw materials really came through, so now Remington is going 24/7.  The Big Green is back!  And everyone will get to enjoy the quality ammunition that Lonoke Arkansas makes.”

Vanderbrink assures purchasers that in coming back the company will never “sacrifice quality to get more ammo into the marketplace.”

This is welcome news, for sure! Hopefully, Big Green can put a big dent in the current ammo drought many of us are witnessing around the country. But only time will tell.

Vista Outdoor officially acquired Remington’s ammunition and accessories businesses in October of 2020.  That included the ammo plant in Lonoke, Arkansas.

I go by Lonoke often and ill believe they are cranked up when that big parking lot has more cars in it.

  • Shempington April 17, 2021, 8:19 am

Yes demand is sky high and supply is low. Simple supply and demand says price will be high. Basic economics.
What people are missing IMO is that YOUR government will eliminate your 2nd Amendment rights by making ammo unavailable.
You can have all the “scary” black guns you want, just no ammo suckers!
I firearm without ammunition is, well, an expensive club.
If you think, the firearms companies wont get into bed with the people that will put them out of business, think again, look what corporate America is doing in Georgia. If in the long term they can feather their nests at your expense, they will do it.
This (Joe, Kam and the Commies) is what we get when we sit on our asses and let others do the heavy lifting.
We were fat, dumb and happy. Making fun of the brain dead fool hiding in his basement. The fix was in from the start,
    Welcome to Amerka comrades.

  • ALAN GROSS April 16, 2021, 6:41 pm

I just want brass, primers, powder and bullets. Come on!

  • Archie Silvers April 16, 2021, 5:33 pm

Yes I have lived across the USA and this has always been happening when the government is trying to get our gun’s , they tax it worse than a pack of smokes and then regulate how much stores are able to get but worst of all is the horders that knows when the shipments are going to be stocked and get their family together to cover the limit issue so that is everywhere and if you want anything you can get it on the back streets of the net or word of mouth and plan on paying 500% more than it was on the shelf ,expecially if you have a hi copasity usage everyone should get the idea, and I really like my firearms, coming from a veteran

  • Singleshotcajun April 16, 2021, 1:54 pm

Not a big fan of Remington primers(at least not for the last fifteen years or so) but I sure would love some now. So please Big Green release the primers.

  • Marshall April 16, 2021, 1:43 pm

I can not for the life of me find 223/556 in south central Ky Under $1.00/rd and online is worse plus taxes and shipping. I live 100 miles in every direction from a big 5 brick and mortar store so, I am Jonesing for some to shoot I have some, about 3,000 rounds. I can’t bring myself to go below that number JIC SHTF around me, but 9 mm is plentiful. Please people stop paying these gouging prices…

  • Joe April 16, 2021, 1:30 pm

Well, something seems wrong to me about all this ammo available from manufacturers they say. Till I see it on the shelf, then will I believe them, SO SHOW ME..

  • TJ Reeder April 16, 2021, 1:22 pm

It would make me happy to see Rem produce 22 LR that will fire 100 % of the time. I have bulk 22 I bought in 08 that from day one had a 10 to 15 % FTF rate. This is unacceptable. Every Mag of 10+ rounds will have the same FTF rate.

And yes it was stored properly. The FTF rate was present from day one, And yes, If I remove the round and rechamber it 99% will fire.

I’m so lucky that I also stockpiled CCI Mini mags. They shoot, every time.

  • John Boutwell April 16, 2021, 1:21 pm

The price gouging by many gun stores will not go away anytime within the next 4 years.

  • Jay Fisher April 16, 2021, 11:28 am

And you’ve all been reported under the “red flag” law, on this page, due to scaring liberals. 🤣

  • Ben April 16, 2021, 10:33 am

“executives needed to hire new workers” = they needed to throw away the union contract, cut the pay, increase the hours, and eliminate benefits. It looks like I may have bought my last ever round of remington ammo

    • Jon B April 16, 2021, 1:23 pm

There is a union contract in Lonoke, AR???!!! That would be a major surprise to a all of people that work there. We will get a clearer look on how things are going by the middle fo May.

    • Roy April 16, 2021, 3:52 pm

Good. One less person to compete for ammo.

  • Save Your Ammo April 16, 2021, 10:02 am

Save your ammo in case uncle sugar sends in the blue helmets to confiscate or aNtIFA decides to loot in your neighborhood. Stand your ground, don’t tolerate intimidation from these black pajama wearing pantywaists. Fighting together we will bring them all down and get our Country back

  • Deplorable Robert April 16, 2021, 9:29 am

    I handled my 7mm. I also handload my 357 Sig Glock32.
I haven’t been out pleasure shooting any of my guns in over a year. Even my MUZZLELOADER!
HAVE ABOUT 40 rounds for my muzzleloader, and 2 pounds powder. And a hundred primers.
Have 4 pounds powder for my pistol, and a 1,000 primers, and about 6 pounds powder for my 7mm. Low on bullets , but I have about 180 rounds for the 7mm already made.
And a couple hundred rounds for my Glock. That’s enough when and if the SHTF… PLUS, I did purchase a 22 cal pellet gun , a Ruger single shot, no propellant needed gun, and 500 pellets. That I think I can get another 1,000 pellets for.
At close range, it can be deadly!
Am waiting for the AMMO restock to come…

  • allen c atkins April 16, 2021, 9:25 am

Only Remington could go broke in 2020 making guns and ammunition.

  • Slim April 16, 2021, 9:02 am

More BS from pencil necks. I’ll believe what you say when I see it and I don’t expect to see anything anytime soon.

  • Dr. Strangelove April 16, 2021, 8:41 am

All of the guys whining about the lack of ammo and high cost have no concept of the law of supply and demand. With the new administration threatening restrictive new laws and the current social unrest, we have a lot of new shooters and established ones buying up guns and ammunition. Shooters who lived through the shortages of ’09 and ’13 should have learned their lesson and stocked up on sale.

    • Chuck Reyes April 16, 2021, 9:54 am

Yup. 2 million + new owners. Old Geezers complaining (me 63).

      • DMD April 17, 2021, 8:22 pm

That number of first time gun owners is actually closer to eight million

  • Michael Carey April 16, 2021, 8:16 am

People that get caught without ammo have short memories’ . They don’t remember the 22 LR shortage of about 10 years ago.( high price no ammo). How to solve this problem! When ammo is cheap and available BUY . Ammo will not spoil . The communist block made a fortune selling people in the free world WWII ammo made in the 1940s.(7.62X54R and 7.62×25 and 8mm).If stored correctly ammo will last for years. Pay attention and buy when ammo is cheap.

  • Nekoman April 16, 2021, 8:10 am

Not buying it, the same excuses and criminal prices that is. WHERE IS ALL THIS AMMO, that is supposedly being produced? The ONLY ammo that I can find for sale, on a regular basis, is steel cased Russian or Eastern European produced, and that is at double or triple the normal prices for 9mm/5.56/7.62 rounds. The brass cased, US made 9mm/5.56/.22 rounds are up to quadruple normal prices, when you can find it in bulk only! 1,000 rounds, bulk packaged, 5.56 in 55gr is going for $1,000! I was paying $300, SHIPPED, for the same, not all that long ago! Steel cased is no less than $500 for 1,000 rounds, and $0.75 per round in smaller quantities for 5.56 55gr . Steel cased Russian 7.62×39 is no less than $0.50 per round, but quantities are usually limited to 100 rounds. SOMETHING STINKS MIGHTILY! I DON’T BUY any of their excuses!

  • Jorge A Garcia April 16, 2021, 7:53 am

YEP. THIS IS JUST PLAIN STUPID, These ludacris democrats have changed this country for a long long time, all they have done with their idiotic insane rhetoric is provoked everyone to stockpile ammo and ruin everything for the rest of us that enjoy some time on the range. even I have stopped firing my guns for fun, I am keeping the ammo I have in case I get visited by those poor defenseless looters and entitled angels in black masks and hoodies. At a dollar per round, the only thing I see positive about all this is that the water will seek its level. It always does, time is the defining factor, and that always also seems to come and settle things out sooner or later. We must have patience, and prey for our younger generation that will be paying for this short lived party for the rest of their lives.

If you didn’t see this coming then you are SOL (Surely out of luck) today. Not even reloading supplies are available anymore. I’ve said for 35 years this was coming and a lot of people thought I was nuts…..well, may be…….

      Who is John Galt?

  • Chief April 16, 2021, 7:53 am

Empty promises from a complete nerd.

  • Tex April 16, 2021, 7:41 am

If you look at the video closely I was surprised to see loaded shotgun shells was being hand stuffed into boxes by workers. Additionally other scenes show/indicate this factory is very much hands on as opposed to automation you see in other industries. Upgrades and efficiency will be necessary in to survive in a competitive market place.

  • Greg April 16, 2021, 7:32 am

a $1 to $1.50 per round for 9mm is f**king ludicrous and is just another greedy money grab and people taking advantage of other people. Fair pricing went out the window when the Demo-sluts got in office with their let any slob in the country mentality.

  • Roger J April 16, 2021, 7:25 am

I’m curious how much ammo was produced during Remington’s annual peak production in the last 10 years and how much ammo will be produced in the next 12 months.

  • Joel Turner April 16, 2021, 7:01 am

I too will not pay the exorbitant price for ammunition. There are many alternatives to actually live firing ammunition to practice. There are several fine electronic devices that will permit you to simulate live fire, build proficiency and handling skills with your firearm. I’ve purchased a replica BB gun of my Sig P365 and can actually practice in my backyard now.

Sure, I would prefer to be live firing but with not be doing so at these ridiculous ammunition prices; I’m not going to pay the ransom to do so. I hate seeing so much greed in the industry.

  • Jon April 16, 2021, 6:50 am

In the past I would tell my wife I was going to play a quick round of golf at the range at least once a week.
Spend 3 or 4 mags and it would cost about the same as playing golf.
Now I go to the range about once every 3 months.

  • frank e. anderson April 16, 2021, 5:15 am

I wish Big Green would bring back the Core Lok Bullets for us Eastern deer hunters. We do not need bonded expensive bullets. I am 77 years old and really miss those bullets when hunting south Georgia. 30-30, 308 and
170 165 grain core loks equals dead deer right there! Before primer non-availability became an issue and I did more reloading than buying core loks were my choice when I could find them. Did not need SSt, ABLR, Bonded and such. Core loks dropped deer in their tracks fpr me from New York Adirondacks to the Florida-Georgia border.

    • jrkmt1 April 16, 2021, 3:14 pm

Prior to Remington’s bankruptcy proceedings the company was still producing its Core Lokt (not Core Lok) loadings. One had no problem finding fresh manufacture in any of the stores in my area (Inland Northwest) or online. I am quite sure that the new owner of Remington Ammunition, the Vista Outdoors Company, will continue to produce this popular loading.
New York is an eastern state but I have never heard anyone refer to Georgia (or Florida) as an eastern state. It is a southern or southeastern state. (Of course, I always have to laugh when I hear someone call Texas a southern state when it is a Plains state.)

  • Joe April 16, 2021, 5:07 am

All talk…many knowledgeable folks say we won’t see ammo for another two years. In any event, I’m not paying double the amount from pre-pandemic. My hobby, my enjoyment, to go to the gun range is ruined and over.

    • Jeff April 16, 2021, 9:45 am

Ruined? Forever? Prices are double, yes, but quantity of shots fired isn’t directly proportional to the amount of fun it is, is it? In other words; you can go to the range and shoot 1/2 as many rounds and end up paying what you always have.
