Rock Island Armory TM22: All-Metal Plinker for $299 — SHOT Show 2022

SHOT Show 2022

Building upon the timeless chambering of 22LR, Rock Island Armory is modernizing the playing field featuring their new TM22.

Sporting a commercial buffer tube adapter to accept standard AR collapsible stocks, an all-aluminum M-LOK handguard, and a threaded barrel, the TM22 adds many of the features consumers have been demanding in a package that is built for even the most novice of shooters.

All aluminum M-LOK handguard.

Machined from 7075, and incorporating a black anodized coating, the TM22 should be both durable and robust. The all-aluminum M-LOK handguard continues the durability of the receiver and gives the end-user the option to mount lights/lasers or whatever else may be desired.

Coming standard with a threaded barrel, the TM22 is suppressor-ready right from the factory. While this rifle is set up for right-handed shooters, Rock Island Armory boasts the ability to convert the controls to the opposite side for Lefties.

Side charging handle, and flat-faced trigger.

Available with either 18” or 20” barrels from the factory, consumers have options in choosing what works best for them. It will also come with two 10 round magazines, with aftermarket factory 15 and 25 round mags available as well.

The TM22 comes with a very light 2-pound flat-faced trigger. It has a short take-up, decent break, and quick reset. After firing a couple mags and some quick-dry fire I was impressed. Another plus is that this rifle can use your favorite AR-style pistol grip giving further interchangeability.

Available and shipping in the summer of 2022, the TM22 should be hitting gun stores near you here in a few months. Coming in with an MSRP of $299, the Rock Island TM22 packs a lot of modern features into a well-priced package.

    Decent price point
Does it use 10/22 mags? They seem scared to say

  • SteevO January 21, 2022, 10:26 am

Please follow this with the 22 WMR version!

It should be noted that no rimfire firearm should ever be dry fired without a snap cap created for that purpose

  • Bill January 20, 2022, 7:30 pm

Is there a way to preorder it?

  • Kane January 18, 2022, 10:08 pm

I would buy the model in the video.

I like the fact that this is aluminum (7075 alloy, which is high strength) and steel. I really like the 2 lb. trigger pull. It’s hard to find a good trigger on a modestly priced .22LR firearm. The grip angle looks odd to me though. Overall I like it and plan to buy one when it is available at my local gun store.
Thanks for the report. Looking forward to a more in-depth review at some point.

It takes aftermarket AR grips, so I doubt the angle will be an issue.

I think the RIA XT22 Target model looks better while using the same receiver and trigger. RIA is going for “cool” with this new edition but the components look like they were grabbed from different boxes and frankensteined together. The fit between the parts just looks clumsy. Their design team could use some pointers. The RIA barrel and trigger are fantastic.

I would want it chopped to just barely legal and threaded. I hope the barrel is easily removable to machine or someone is already working the aftermarket accessories.

I’m thinking this will be sold out before it gets to the store!

Some pretty impressive new items coming out of Shot Show this year. If it has typical Rock Island quality, and at a decent price point, this new 22 should be a hit!

Nice little 22! Now if they will use this platform for a 9mm (and I wouldn’t mind a 38 special) they would have a fantastic PCC for around $400 to rival the clunky looking HiPoint. Maybe just 380 if the frame won’t handle more. Hmm… a PCC in 380 would be a first, I think. Not as useful as a stronger pistol caliber, but would still be fun and a good home defense option for those who prefer something larger than a pistol but still handy inside.

      Waiting for a 9mm/22tcm
