It’s Ruger’s 70th anniversary and the firearms maker is working hard to make sure everyone has a reason to celebrate it. They’re announcing new 10/22 products as fast as they can and ramping up their rimfire selection from entry-level to competition-ready.

Most recently Ruger announced a 10/22 rifle bundled with a Viridian EON 3-9×40 rimfire rifle scope at a very competitive price.

The Viridian package includes a black 10/22 with a black synthetic stock, optics rail, rings and the scope in addition to a solid hard case big enough for the bundle, a scope and ammo and other shooting accessories. Even though the bundle includes the scope the rifle does have standard iron sights for when it comes time to work on the fundamentals.

The main selling point for the package is the price. Ruger is offering the bundle for $399, which will mean real-world pricing a lot closer to $300.

At the very least buyers will be able to get the gun, pay any transfer fees and taxes and still have money left over for ammo for a dollar amount around the MSRP or less. This is right in time for the holidays for anyone looking to introduce new shooters to the sport.

All in the bundle weighs about 5.4 pounds with the scope and mounting hardware. It has a standard 18.5-inch barrel and includes one 10-round rotary magazine.

For anyone looking to put together a similar package but with a different model 10/22 Viridian is offering the EON 3-9×40 scope sold separately for $49 for a limited time. The regular price for the scope is $99 and that buys both the rifle scope and a set of 1-inch rings.

For those who want to pick out a different scope but still need a 10/22 Ruger also recently announced a couple of “optics ready” models with factory-installed scope rails. These models have a heavier-profiled barrel, no iron sights and come in black and two-tone black and gray.

The optics ready 10/22 have a base price of $309 and would be a great match for the EON 3-9×40 as well as a lot of other rimfire scopes. Hard case sold separately.

Ruger’s also put together a match-ready 10/22 for more experienced shooters looking to make bullseyes and score points. The new 10/22 Competition features a laminate stock, a receiver-mounted Picatinny rail and a fluted stainless 16-inch threaded barrel with a compensator.

The colorful laminate stock features green, gold and gray layers. It has an aggressive ambidextrous pistol grip for shooting from a rest. It also has a very low forend that puts the rifle higher up on the rest or bench.

The receiver and rail are anodized aluminum and the rail has a 30 MOA angle to it for long-range rimfire sports. The stainless barrel has black accents in the fluting to match the ported compensator.

The new 10/22 Competition runs a bit steeper than the entry-level carbines and that’s not a huge surprise but it’s also not outrageously priced with an $899 MSRP. And of course, in-store and online pricing will be lower.

No matter what carbine you’re interested in, you’re going to need ammo to make it work and Ruger, with help from CCI, has you covered. CCI now offers standard-velocity .22 Long Rifle target ammunition under the Ruger brand for $9 plus shipping for a box of 50 rounds.

A .22 scope would preferably be set for 50 yard parallax.

70th anniversary of the 10/22? The 50th anniversary was in 2014.

      It’s Ruger’s 70th anniversary, not the 10/22’s.
