Ruger Celebrating Summer 2018 with New Rifles and Pistols

Authors Industry News Max Slowik This Week

Ruger’s got four new pistols and rifles for this summer building on some of their most popular products. They’re adding an SR1911 Officer, a Security-9 laser bundle, and new automatic and bolt-action rimfire rifles.

SR1911

First up is the SR1911. This is an Officer-style pistol chambered for .45 ACP. Unlike their other Officer-pattern .45, this model has an all-stainless construction with a stainless steel slide and frame.

The heavy frame reduces felt recoil, helps balance the pistol and offers improved durability. Otherwise the new model sports all of the features that make the SR1911 series stand out.

It has a skeletonized hammer and adjustable trigger, Novak 3-dot sights and an enlarged beavertail grip safety. Due to its small size the pistol weighs a comfortable 31 ounces. With flush magazines it has a 7+1-round capacity and comes with two stainless magazines.

Despite being a compact pistol, the new SR1911 is a target pistol. The gun has a 3.6-inch bushingless bull barrel and full-length guide rod. It has a titanium firing pin for improved lock time and added drop safety.

Additionally, the new SR1911 comes with checkered G-10 grips and mainspring housing for extra control. The stainless Officer has a $979 MSRP.

Ruger Security-9

If you’re looking for something a little more practical and a lot more affordable, then the new Ruger Security-9 might be right for you.

Ruger is now bundling the Security-9 with a Viridian E-Series red light laser. The trigger-guard-mounted laser has ambidextrous push-button power buttons and a solid 6-hour constant-on battery life.

The laser also has an automatic shut off to conserve power. The laser will shut off automatically after five minutes. The laser has a $132 value but only adds $60 to the sticker price. The Security-9 bundle is priced at $439 and will likely retail for $400 or less.

The Security-9 is Ruger’s most modern polymer-framed 9mm service pistol. It has a 4-inch barrel and 15+1-round capacity (9mm). The laser only adds a half-ounce to the package, bringing the overall weight to just over 24 ounces unloaded.

Ruger also has two new rifles for target shooting and small game hunting. They’re expanding both their 10/22 series and their Ruger 77 series.

10/22 Target Lite

The new 10/22 Target Lite has a red and black laminate thumbhole stock, improved BX trigger and threaded tensioned barrel. Tensioned barrels are inherently lightweight and accurate with little thermal drift.

The stock is adjustable for length of pull with spacers. The trigger is factory-set with a 2.5- to 3-pound pull. The complete package weighs just 5 pounds.

Priced at $649 this is a steal. Real-world prices will be even lower, enough to add a decent optic to the rifle without breaking the bank.

Ruger 77

Like the new 10/22, the new Ruger 77 is also built for accuracy with a matte stainless Green Mountain barrel. It has a bull barrel profile and a recessed target crown. The barrel measures in at 18.5 inches to get the most out of every shot.

For a rimfire rifle, it packs a punch chambered for .17 Winchester Super Magnum. This makes it ideal for hunting larger small game and a wide variety of varmints in addition to being a solid target shooter.

The new 77/17 has a green laminate stock with a traditional pattern. It’s also intended to be used with a scope and has integral scope mounts and a down-turned bolt.

At 7 pounds recoil won’t be a problem shot after shot. The new 77 has the highest sticker of them all at $1,069. As usual, expect stores to list these for well under $1,000.
