Sheriff Vows to Deputize Gun Owners to Protect Citizens from Rioters

Authors Current Events Jordan Michaels This Week

A sheriff in Florida vowed this week to deputize gun owners to protect county residents from rioters.

“If we can’t handle you, I’ll exercise the power and authority as the sheriff and I’ll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in the county and I’ll deputize them to this one purpose: to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility,” said Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels as he stood in front of 18 deputies.

Daniels clarified in the three-minute video posted on Facebook that he and his deputies swore to uphold the Constitution, and his words shouldn’t be taken as a threat to those who want to peacefully protest.

“We’ll protect your constitutional rights as long as you remain under the umbrella of peaceful protest. But the second you step out from up under the protection of the Constitution, we’ll be waiting on you and give you everything you want: all the publicity, all the pain, all the glamour and glory for all that five minutes will give you,” he said.

Daniels is African American, as are several of his deputies. His department has a “great relationship” with its residents, he said, but “if you come to Clay County and think for one second we’ll bend our backs for you, you’re sadly mistaken.”

Daniels did not indicate that his county had seen any rioting or that he expected to see any. But he appears worried that outside agitators will come into his community and encourage lawlessness.

“Lawlessness? That’s unacceptable in this country. Lawlessness is unacceptable in Clay County,” he said.

Daniels’ stance comes as cities nationwide struggle to maintain order amidst protesting and rioting in the name of racial justice. After allowing “protesters” to occupy a portion of Seattle for weeks, city police have been tasked with clearing the area after several people were murdered in the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.

Daniels wouldn’t be the first sheriff to threaten to deputize citizens in the name of the Constitution. Sheriff Scott Jenkins in Culpepper County, Va., vowed last year to “properly screen and deputize thousands of law-abiding citizens to protect their constitutional right to own firearms.”

Jenkins has not needed to follow through on his threat, and it’s unclear whether Clay will, either.

Daniels is a Republican finishing his first term, and is being challenged by six opponents in an upcoming election.

History always repeats itself…..Following the Baltimore riot of 1968, 1,500 lawsuits were filed against the city of Baltimore seeking compensation for damages sustained due to the failure of the police to suppress the unrest. The city sought declaratory judgment arguing that it could not be liable for any failures of the Baltimore municipal police, as it was an agency of the State of Maryland and the city had no law enforcement authority. In rejecting the argument, the Maryland Court of Appeals observed that Baltimore, as an independent city and—therefore—a county equivalent, was still in possession of the ability to summon the power of the county as that right had not explicitly been repealed by statute and, therefore, remained part of the common law.[24] The court noted:

We are therefore of the opinion that the powers associated with that of a conservator of the peace and the power to form a “posse comitatus (Deputize) ,” which is included in the powers of a conservator of the peace, were powers available for employment by the City, through the Mayor, should the exercise of reasonable diligence have dictated that they be used.

Besides Sheriff Darryl Daniels, Florida has other sheriffs that won’t take any crap for lawbreakers such as: Sheriff Grady Judd in Polk County. He was once asked, “why his deputies in a shot-out with a cop killer shot the man 86 times”, his response, “they ran out of ammo”.

  • Mack The Knife July 3, 2020, 9:51 pm

Right on, Middleburg and Basics Range and Gun is proud of Sheriff Daniels.

  • Andy Buckmichael July 3, 2020, 7:31 pm

They would be better than the murdering scum cops.

On January the 7, 1962 (being 17 years of age) at 6pm in the evening I took an oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, both Foreign and Domestic. It was given to us by an Army Major (we were men joining all branches of the military). After he finished giving us the oath, he welcomed us to the Armed Forces of the United States and informed us as follows:
There are those of you who are being drafted (2-year obligation), there are those who joined the Army (3-year obligation), there are those of you who joined the Air Force and the Navy (4-years active duty, plus 2-years in the reserve). The oath you just took is not just for your service obligation but till the day you die, it follows you to the grave…you are HONOR bound to that oath.

I for one will HONOR that oath no matter what…My God, My Country, My Flag, My Life.

This so called sheriff (obviously ill or untrained cop) is a poster boy for exactly why people are demanding police reform. All he knows how to do is escalate a situation until it results in violence. Its what his kind live for, brutality, violence and legalized murder. If we are every to civilize America people like him have to go or be trained how to act like professional police who are aware of the laws and respectful of human life and are trained to de-escalate a situation not rack up yearly body counts of strangulation and people gunned down in the streets to show their power over the worker slaves.

Hiring untrained vigilantes who have no police training in the law is about a moronic as the rantings of Trump. Admittedly most police have only a half step more training than a mob does but this is exactly why more money for police training is in desperate need if we are ever to stop the senseless slaughter and violence that resulted in 2018 of 991 (and over 1,000 in 2017) people being killed by cops as compared to 12 in Germany and only 4 in China that has 2 1/2 times the population of the U.S. It cannot get any more shocking than this.

    • Vlad Tepes July 3, 2020, 3:45 pm

I forgot to mention that all of the Obama Police reforms that were cancelled by Trump and Jeff Sessions will become law in 2021 when (not if ) Joe Biden becomes President.

Also such reforms as universal background checks to prevent criminals who just walked out of prison to walk across the street and buy heavy weapons at gun shows will immediately come to an end. Its time to stop the insanity.

Also such reforms as safe storage laws will save on average 1,300 children from being killed by guns lying around the house loaded and 3 times that number crippled for life. Criminals too will be much better thwarted from just breaking down a door and robbing gun stores and private dwellings when guns are mandated to be locked up. Most criminals are morons who only know smash and grab and putting any barriers in their way is usually too much for their retarded minds to grasp.

All this will come to pass in 2021 when Biden takes control and the insanity and stinginess of the present administration in regards to sane gun control and the total lack of affordability of health care and drug care will come to and end. It cannot come soon enough especially in the middle of a pandemic which has shown how important it is to have a leader who will make the decisions necessary to save thousands of innocent lives rather than right them off as expendable because of blind greed and corruption that pander to the drug and insurance companies by the present administration.

Sir: Your ignorance is blasting through blindingly. You should do a quick course in basic law enforcement so you can curtail some of those sadly-lacking-in-insight rantings and not to embarrass yourself further.

      • jef July 6, 2020, 3:49 pm

For a moment, your attempt to intellectualize and statistically stone the ignorant was, from a liberal perspective, laudable…

THEN you quote a statistic of killing their citizens by CHINA, and think you are remotely credible?

      • ROBERT PARROTT July 7, 2020, 6:59 pm

OMG!!!! IGNORANT to the bone marrow…. NOBODY gets out of jail and buy a gun anywhere in this country. I have bought many firearms at gun shows and ALWAYS had to pass the INSTANT BACKGROUND CHECK (FBI) prior to getting possession of the item.
I have sat beside people that appeared to have come straight to the gun show that FAILED the FBI background check.
If you have a felony conviction you will NOT pass a background check. There is NO check for loose screws or undiagnosed insanity.

      • Old Cop October 14, 2020, 11:01 am

Snowflake, I respect your right to voice your opinion but, you are so out of touch with the world and your support for Biden is scary. You look forward to all the free things, Biden promises but you fail to look back on the 47 years he’s worked in Government and did nothing. What he will do is tax you to death and take away your freedoms and destroy this Great Country. Trump has done more in four years than most of the Democratic party has done in decades. So if your not happy with the way things are going in this country, I will happily assist you in packing your dolls and toys and will also happily walk you to the plane headed for China where you will feel safer and you have no rights or freedoms.

Isn’t it funny that when the REPUBS come back with an IGNORANT Comment , over half the time is about !living in your mommy’s basement! Anyway he can do it as a Former CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF in KENTUCKY! I wouldn’t recommend it though because every militant MILITIA GROUP will want to be in on the action too! I don’t see any problem with protecting yourself but I don’t think you have to go that far! In KENTUCKY the gun laws here are about as lax as you can get! We have the CASTLE LAW who people have used to even shoot through a door if you think your life is in danger! 2 incidents in LEXINGTON the last few years with people thinking someone was drunk were used to shoot a kill someone through the door! One was drunk the other wasnt! MUST be a small county looking at the PICTURE! We don’t need to do that here but I don’t know the population of the area OR about of the CIRCUMSTANCES in question! Sounds like a lot of POLITICS involved here!

  • Hoffy July 3, 2020, 12:47 pm

The sheriff would make a much better candidate than Joe Biden.

    • Peter Brown July 3, 2020, 1:04 pm

joe bidet isn’t 1/1000th the American that the Sheriff is.

  • Bruce July 3, 2020, 11:33 am

What happened to the comment I sent in? You guys only run positive views? Take a guess where that idea originated: in two countries represented by a hammer and sickle and a swastika.

Anyway, if you somehow lost it, here’s what I wrote: What a wonderful idea this sherf had!–unloosing a horde of armed imbeciles to enforce their idea of the Constitution. At lest Hitler dressed them in Brown Shirts so we could lock our doors when they showed up on our block.a

    • Bubbinator July 3, 2020, 1:32 pm

Based on your statement that armed citizens are imbeciles you obviously group them with yourself. God Bless the Sheriff ( spelled correctly, retard). You just stay hunkered down there in Mommie’s basement and stay out of the way of real men and women standing up for their rights. When the battle winds down we’ll send a Home Health worker by your home to change your nappies, meantime – sit down, stay out of the way and STFU, Libturd.

    • Paul July 3, 2020, 1:47 pm

Looks like EVERTOWN found a new member!!!!!

    • Alan July 3, 2020, 2:53 pm

Well Bruce, your left wing bigotry is on full display. We already have progressive-fascist Democrat brownshirts causing havoc (antifa, occupy) and now the progressive-communist BLM (blackshirts) who want a race war (read their literature) to wipe out all whites infesting this country. OUR version of the Constitution is what is written. The Dems version of a constitution i whatever their feelings guide them to do day by day. You clearly hate gun owners and the INTENT of the 2nd. s was CLEARLY discussed by the Founders, it is to thwart tyranny – such as pushed by the demonic, American hating (since Woodrow Wilson, 1912) Dems.

    • Kane July 4, 2020, 12:31 am

That was so refreshing how you found a way to bring up Hitler for no good reason. Please, keep dazzling with you unique wit.

    • Big Al 45 July 4, 2020, 10:57 am

LOL! Your grasp of history is completely off base. NEITHER Hitler nor Stalin used “citizens” for their dirty work, nor did Mussolini. They used POLITICAL cronies and believers for UNLAWFUL activities to overthrow in place governments.

WHY did they eliminate your comment? based on your analogy, they did it because it’s STUPID!
What a fool you are, to make such a stretch and comparison.

  • Gerald Ocker July 3, 2020, 11:28 am

Deputizing gun owners to assist in controlling the rioters and looters is a great idea.

  • Bruce Porter July 3, 2020, 11:17 am

Oh, wonderful idea!–releasing hordes of untrained imbeciles to run wild, enforcing what they think is the law. At least in German they made them wear Brown Shirts so we could lock our doors when they marched down our block.

    • Give Me Freedom July 4, 2020, 2:24 am

Who said these armed citizens that would be called upon to help restore order would be untrained? You are making assumptions that are not true.

  • Jeffrey July 3, 2020, 11:12 am

I agree 100% with the sheriff on this matter. If you want to break the law. Then be prepared to suffer the consequences. That’s the big problem with the situation now.

  • Budd July 3, 2020, 11:05 am

FINALLY. A lawman that KNOWS the law and is willing to use it against those that are working to destroy America.

  • Alzada July 3, 2020, 10:46 am

Right on Sheriff, got your back !!

  • Keith Freeman July 3, 2020, 10:15 am

I live in Clay County and love that he has turned our area around. This man does not back down. I can’t wait to reelect him as our sheriff!!

    • Mack The Knife July 3, 2020, 9:50 pm

Right on, Middleburg and Basics Range and Gun is proud of Sheriff Daniels.

  • bowser98 July 3, 2020, 9:03 am

Glad to know that someone in the USA has grown a pair. Maybe he’ll set an example for the rest of the Country. The rioting, looting, burning, killing, mugging and handcuffing of the police that is presently going on, with the blessings of the politicians, is totally unacceptable. People are becoming afraid to set foot outside. Good for you Sheriff Daniels.

  • barry gans July 3, 2020, 8:34 am

I very much appreciate people of all
backgrounds, who will not buckle to the tyranny that we are seeing played out in our cities and towns. Even though, I live in rural Maryland I stand in spirit with you and should the day come, arm in arm. Scott

Scotsman, I too live in rural Maryland, on the Eastern Shore, and stand ready to defend our way of life right beside you

  • Willy July 3, 2020, 7:11 am

Funny how it has come to having to make a statement like that,, as though it were special, and that lawlessness is the norm.

  • guido July 3, 2020, 7:00 am

    Goodon’ya, Sheriff!

    “Oathkeep” much, Sir?

I would very much like to see a day proclaimed across our great Nation, something along the way as National “Got Your Six” day, perhaps.
Independence Day would have been an appropriate day to do it on, it’s too late for that. But I think a huge rally, in communities across America, to show solidarity with our beleaguered LEO’s such as Sheriff Daniels, is way overdue.
I visualize armed, yet peaceful, licensed marches, played-out everywhere, to attempt to restore the morale of our beat-down First Responders.
Or, maybe one huge rally in a location (that is not DC) where folks can travel to to make a statement of their support.
Either way, I feel the need to illustrate this “demonstration” thing is not one-sided. Showing support for those who have been thrust onto the center stage of this clown show is the very least we can do.

“Patriots for Law Enforcement”, “You Got Our Back, We Got Yours!” “We’ll All Take the Oath!”

It’s long overdue. Time for a lot less talk and a little more action!

I was in DC for the two “9/12 Taxpayer’s Protests” in 2009 & 2010. I’ve seen with my own eyes the staggering numbers of dedicated Patriots that are willing to mobilize and make a unified statement in support of their beloved Country and the Liberty it represents.
It’s time. There are Oathkeepers everywhere.

What A Great Statement, … I Hope That This Stance Is Picked Up By Every City, .. County And State, … And If This Man Ever Ran For President, … I Too Would Vote For Him In A Minute.

    • Willy July 3, 2020, 7:13 am

I don’t know about president, but I agree with his views. We need more people with a backbone to speak out and stand firm with a commitment to our country as it was intended to be.
