SIG AIR Reflex Sight: $49 Red Dot Handgun Trainer

SIG ProForce M-18. This was taken at SHOT 2019. It was a blast to shoot and did everything I expected from a red dot.

Red dot sights have become the standard for law enforcement and defensive handguns. One of the challenges faced by shooters is getting the reps in to master presentation and sight acquisition.

In these times of ammo shortage, SIG Sauer presents the SIG AIR Reflex Sight. With an MSRP below $50, the SIG Reflex sight is the hero we need to train for force on force and daily carry. This takes us beyond iron sight training into the promised land of the red dot.

I have long been an advocate of using airsoft for training. SIG changed the game with their PRO force guns which are exact shooting replicas of their P229, M-17, and M-18. The Coast Guard bought the P229 to use in their force on force training.

I have been shooting at home a lot lately, trying to save ammo while keeping up my skills. The C13 F.A.T. Targets are real game changers. You want a realistic target and you want feedback. Airsoft BBs are fast enough to go through cardboard but if you shoot regular targets, you get a mess.

Little plastic BBs go everywhere. Even in the yard it is a pain. The F.A.T. targets trap airsoft BBs when you hit the A-Zone. This is also perfect for kids. They tell you where you hit and keep the mess down so you spend more time shooting and less time listening to significant others complain.

I got to try the SIG Air Reflex sight on the ProForce M-18 on SIG Range Day at the last SHOT show. I think it is the most important new thing I saw. It was a great simulation of live fire with red dot sights. It is hard to get enough live fire repetitions for proficiency for new shooters or when experienced shooters switch to red dots. This new tools is going to get me those reps in the backyard or basement.

Why can’t you just dry fire? Well, you can and should, but it doesn’t give you feed back. The ProForce guns fit in my Safariland duty holster and I can practice my draws and sight acquisition safely virtually anywhere.

Specifically designed to fit the SIG AIR M17 pellet pistol, and SIG ProForce M17 and M18 airsoft pistols, this low profile 1x23mm reflex sight features a wide field of view and 3 MOA red dot. The manual brightness control, located on the front of the sight, has six illumination intensity settings making it easy to see the red dot in all lighting conditions.

“The demand for carry-optics in the market amongst law enforcement and recreational shooters is strong, and with the introduction of a reflex sight for our SIG AIR product line, consumers will now have the ability to train in a variety of environments on carry-optics,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales.

“The new SIG AIR Reflex Sight delivers rapid target acquisition for those training with several SIG AIR pistols and is designed to fit our future SIG AIR releases,” he continued.

The sight features easy to use windage and elevation adjustments, and the lightweight aluminum housing and shock-proof design ensure durability.

The SIG AIR Reflex Sight comes with a 1CR20 32 battery and two optic mount plates – one for airguns and one for airsoft.
