NEWINGTON, N.H., (January 13, 2022) – SIG SAUER is proud to announce the official expansion of the MCX series of rifles with the new MCX-SPEAR chambered in 277 SIG FURY.  The MCX-SPEAR was developed with direct input from U.S. warfighters to provide more power, distance, and accuracy to replace the current M4 rifle platform.  The MCX-SPEAR is now the most innovative and advanced AR platform in the world.

“This is a rare opportunity for passionate consumers to own a piece of history,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “This first production run MCX-SPEAR, and all of the revolutionary technology behind its development, is being offered to the commercial market in a configuration that is a near match to our NGSW-R submission. Further, this is the only rifle submission to the program that is designed and engineered in the United States by a company with the manufacturing scale and proven adherence to military-grade quality requirements – which is a tremendous source of pride for everyone at SIG SAUER.”

The MCX-SPEAR is an adaptable multi-caliber rifle (277 SIG FURY, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7.62 NATO, with barrel change) featuring rear and side non-reciprocating charging handles, 6-position folding stock, ambidextrous fire control, bolt-catch, and mag release, 2-stage match trigger, 2-position adjustable gas piston, a lightened free-float M-LOK™ handguard, a full-length picatinny rail, and ships with (2) 20-round magazines.

“The revolutionary SIG FURY ammunition is the most technically advanced leap in smalls arms ammunition in over 150 years, this turns your intermediate rifle platform into magnum performance without the added weight or length while still using 20-round magazines,” added Cohen.

The 277 SIG FURY ammunition is the commercial variant of the 6.8 x 51 hybrid military round available in the hybrid case technology submitted to the U.S. Army NGSW program. Also available is a 277 SIG FURY FMJ traditional cartridge round.

“The final component of this special-edition offering includes the SLX Suppressor. The design of the SLX suppressor is optimized to dramatically reduce harmful toxic backflow and features our patented QD attach/detach system making installation of the suppressor a game-changing level of ease,” said Cohen.

The SLX suppressors feature a monolithic core construction in Inconel, an internal multi-flow path to exhaust gases at a higher rate resulting in lower toxic fume inhalation, a sound reducing baffle design, a flash reducing end cap, and are available with either the new Clutch-LOK QD mounting system for easy install and removal that offers an intuitive tactile locking ring with infinite radial locking positions, or direct thread.

Everything is a compromise! The power of 7.62 and round count of5.56. The 50bmg has the power but who wants to carry the Barrett andOne Round!? Times and Costs wait for no one!

Won’t ever own one as great as it sounds. Cost as much as my vehicle. Besides, .308 has filled my freezer each year since 1990 for less than $1.000 total.

Am I the only one that sees an $8000 AR10 . Guess this is a case of the emperors clothes and I’m only one that sees him with no clothes on. right now I can build an AR10 in any caliber for less than $800, even with side discharging, plus another $1000 for suppressor . I’m sure some company already tooling up a bcg and barrel in that caliber .

I agree. Ridiculous price for marginal performance improvement.

Always said we should have gone to .270 in the M-16… and here’s the compromise… .277/ 6.5 X 51 in a Piston Driven Reliable Gun !!!

I only had ONE M-16 stop shooting … and that was ENOUGH !!!
Our M-60s on our helicopters seemed to NEVER fail either… jamb once in a while … but …

My aching arse. The best battle cartridge has already been developed in the 50’s- the 7.62 NATO. I humped an M60 more miles than I can remember and the cartridge never failed- cant say the same for the Pig. But its old, not hip, not cool. The Command/ Procurment structure cant hang a hat for promotions unless they come up with something new. Pfffffft.

    • Big Al 45 January 14, 2022, 10:48 am

Before that, the best Battle cartridge was the 7mm Mauser, or the 6.5 x 55 Swedish.
The .30 was a silly cartridge to begin with, and though the venerable 30-06 is still King of the all around Hunting Cartridges, it was never a great Battle Cartridge due to it’s excessive size and power for shooting humans.
Good range out to 800 meters is MORE than enough for a common infantry round, beyond that should be the territory of the Designated Marksman.
No, the 7.62 NATO was a foolish compromise, with the 5.56 NATO a silly venture towards the other end of the spectrum.

Ummm… I’ll wait till I see this on the range… then comment.

Till then the old trusty AR’s are working well and I can find ” SOME ” ammo for them …
    ( To replenish my reserves… )

Sounds excellent Sig, although I wish you would have come up with more calibers for the MCX platform like I asked for [specifically 22 long rifle] I still say that’s a void that needs to be filled until then I guess I know
where the next $3,500 I come up with to try out your new Tier 1 operator tool is going! Comanche out!!!%

  • Buckshott00 January 13, 2022, 4:05 pm

How much? Sig’s first production run costs looks like $8k is that accurate??!!?? Does that include the supressor?

How soon until they’re on the shelves?
Should we wait for the Raptor?

    • Comanche January 14, 2022, 9:11 am
