SIG Wants You to Carry 365 with the P365 – New 10+1 9mm Subcompact

Concealed Carry/EDC Current Events Industry News Max Slowik This Week

SIG Sauer is announcing their newest handgun for everyday carry, the P365. It’s a polymer-framed, striker-fired subcompact chambered for 9mm Luger. Unlike a lot of handguns in this class, they built it from the ground up — it’s not another grip-chopped service pistol.

The new “micro-compact” P365 is all about capacity. Unlike many single-stack pistols in its size and weight range, it offers 10+1 rounds of ammunition and that’s with flush magazines. With extended magazines the gun provides an even better 12+1-round capacity.

SIG pulled this off by using double-stack magazines with an extra-long taper. This makes the magazines wide at the bottom and narrow at the top — high-capacity in the grip and skinny under the slide and controls.

“As a company, we are relentless in our quest to be better — to constantly improve upon our existing products and to design and build superior products than those currently on the market,” said CEO Ron Cohen in the product announcement. “The P365 is a pistol for professionals and civilians alike who want a smaller, high-performance pistol that does it all. This is the ultimate, everyday concealed-carry pistol.”

The P365 is less than 6 inches long.  It weighs just under 18 ounces.  (Photo: SIG Sauer)

All around the P365 measures in at less than 6 inches long, 4.3 inches tall and 1 inch wide. It weighs less than 18 ounces unloaded, including the magazine. The pistol has a 3.1-inch barrel and is rated for +P ammunition.

With flush magazines the gun has a two-and-a-half-finger grip, give or take, depending on hand size. SIG ships the P365 with an extended floorplate for a fuller grip and with extended magazines the gun should be comfortable to shoot for just about everyone.

That means that with the P365 shooters can choose what they want most out of their everyday carry gun — concealability or added capacity.

Like the P320 and P250, the P365 features a modular chassis. It uses a slimmer sub-frame for the edge in concealability and isn’t interchangeable with the other guns but it does have a replaceable polymer grip.

The standard grip has textured panels all around, a deeply undercut trigger guard and a special accessory rail. Instead of a Picatinny or even “old-style” SIG rail the P365 has two horizontal slots molded into the frame.

Users will be able to install lights and lasers onto their guns by clamping them into the slots. SIG plans to offer these accessories down the line along with grip frames with integral laser modules. Every pistol also comes standard with factory night sights.

Rounding things out SIG worked with Blackpoint Tactical to develop a series of holsters for the P365 available at launch. SIG is also working on a P365 air pistol for training and backyard plinking and even a suppressor system that’s sure to raise eyebrows.

This gun fits a niche that SIG’s other handguns don’t. It’s not a modified service pistol, cut-down for concealed-carry. It’s made from scratch to be an everyday-carry gun for anyone looking for one gun for every time and place.

The P365 is priced at $599 which is in-line with base model P320 pistols. Expect real-world pricing to start at around $500. Magazines are priced around and under $50 and holsters $80.

I too thought that I might like the SCCY, but it is much thicker, full double action only, long, long trigger pull.
About like comparing a Model T Ford with a modern car! About like a crank start!
If you want a smoooth double action trigger pull, the Khar is much better than the SCCY, but only single stack.

A Houge grip and the Sig Lima laser makes the P365 the perfect cary pistol!

Why is this called a “Micro” 9mm? Is there a formal category standard?
I’ve got a Kel-Tec P40 (40cal) with a 9 round magazine (9+1) that has what are for all practical considerations, the same overall dimensions (about 6.05″ x 4.40″ x 1.05″) when using a flat baseplate magazine, and 4.40″ includes the sights.
And…if the P40 can handle 9+1 .40cal S&W in the same size, I’m puzzled why many of the various “Micro” 9mm’s seem to be limited to 6+1 rounds or so.
Note: The Kel-Tec P40 is NOT my CCW pistol, and I am NOT saying the Kel-Tec is a better CCW pistol. All I’m trying to do is understand why this size is called “Micro” and why the “Micro” 9mm magazine round capacities are so low for the same overall pistol size.

  • Snake Clark March 21, 2019, 12:32 am

Never had a hiccup in 2000 rounds on my two, rapid and slow. Small pistols necessitate a proper grip. BTW, it’s an alloy frame with polymer grip.

  • Choot It! October 22, 2018, 5:19 pm

Finally broke down and bought one of these little guys. If I could get it to fire, I’d go ahead and shoot my own self in the foot with it. LOL damn thing won’t get through an entire 50 round box of shells without jamming, or failing to go into battery. Should have listened to the YouTube experts who said stay away. Gun is not Safe for CCW. Going back to my G43. I won’t look back.

  • Paul Michael Erwin August 28, 2018, 10:12 pm

P365 a damn fine pistol. I would like to shoot against some of you whiners!

  • Rod Combs August 20, 2018, 1:10 pm

I am getting mine in like 2 days cannot wait. I have a 43 XDS Shield 26. This 365 is going to be the ticket. Buy the crap sick of you fricking whine bags

  • Chip arenkiel August 1, 2018, 3:16 pm

I bought one. It works, but there are many more cheaper ccw 9mm out there? When I called sig customer service to try to buy a pinky extension, instead of a whole clip, they weren’t really interested, with excuses why they couldn’t do that? When I called ruger on a guide rod spring issue, ruger sent me a replacement guide rod assembly, AND a ruger cap.
when I asked the SO CALLED customer service rep from sig about the pinky extension, I got we don’t have any promos for caps now? Studying the warrantee, I see that I have to pay shipping for any repairs?

    I shoulda bought another ruger.

Put a $50.00 hold on a Sig 365 I just ordered. Wait time is about 2-3 weeks. I have owned almost every Glock out there. I think they are very reliable and more than accurate enough. My everyday carry is a S&W Shield .45 because Glock does not make a .45 that compares is size. I am buying the Sig because everyone I have ever fired has been totally reliable, accurate and have xcellent triggers. Everyone has a preference be it Sig, Glock, Smith, Colt, Taurus or any other manufacturer. Whatever works best for YOU ( Price / Ease of carry / Reliability) will no doubt be your carry gun. After carrying daily for over 40 years I am still waiting for the “Perfect Gun” …………………maybe someday?

  • Pocketgunner July 1, 2018, 8:32 am

A group from our club tested the new 365 against other Micro9mm’s. All felt like the gun was way over hyped. Recoil was ok but the gun had much more muzzle flip than most. The narrow space between the receiver and the grip was ridiculously short resulting in dragging the slide. Actually Sig warns of this in their manual. The slide stop and take down were hunky and should not be on a gun meant for CCW. Wake up Sig! Get a snag free design. Many of us felt like the gun compared to the Ruger LC9S in recoil and snappy muzzle flip. Not quite as severe but still a snappy gun especially felt during extended shooting. Be advised to handle this gun before purchase. This not a gun designed for small hands with the short space between receiver and grip. I doubt many will be able to shoot this gun reliably in cold weather with clothes.
Sig designed this gun from a magazine. Perhaps they should have developed a magazine from a gun. Sorry this gun just does not cut it.

  • Marvin June 19, 2018, 9:43 pm

Paid $175. For SCCY, shot 250 rounds assorted ammo, second round failed to feed. Firearm then preformed flawlessly.
I want a Sig 365 to compare. Carried for over forty years for a living. Would carry the SCCY with no worry.

  • Ed N. April 11, 2018, 1:39 am

Comparing a Sig to a sccy?? Lol! That’s like comparing a Lexus to a yugo!

  • brian March 16, 2018, 2:30 am

    Doesn’t come in a .40s&w?

  • Bill lemon January 23, 2018, 9:30 am

Be lucky to get off 3 Shot in a connfrontion Lots Of great weapons. Think I will stay with Ruger LPC

  • Jrlh January 16, 2018, 3:58 pm

    What an ugly gun.

  • lukeum January 13, 2018, 4:37 pm

    just another glock in drag

    • Richard Murphy May 27, 2018, 4:42 pm

Please…. glocks are overrated! And ugly as shit!

  • PaulWVa January 12, 2018, 6:03 pm

I can’t see a big difference in the 365 and my Sig P-320 sub compact. The 320 will hold 12+1 with it’s standard mags and with adapter can carry 15+1. The 320 is pretty small, easy to carry and very accurate. I’ll have to see the 365 up close to see if it is a worthy challenger to my EDC. The 365 is a pretty interesting looking gun for today’s gun market.

    • Chazman1946 April 17, 2018, 11:29 pm

I rented the 365 at a range today and put it up against my Ruger LC9s pro and my Glock 43… it is almost the same size and weight as those two, yet has a 10 and 12 round magazine. As soon as these become available I’m dumping my G43 and picking one of these up. It’s a no brainer to decide on carrying a pistol with a 6 round magazine, or one with 10 or 12, especially when they are the same size.

The Ruger stays also, since it is the most accurate of the three, mainly because of the great smooth trigger is has with a clean “surprise” break that prevents the anticipation flinch you get when firing small pistols like this in 9mm

  • Jake January 12, 2018, 1:01 pm

If dropped will It discharge a round? Sig seems to have that issue with striker fired pistols.

    • PaulWVa January 12, 2018, 6:06 pm

Old news ….they fixed that supposed issue months ago.

    • charles January 12, 2018, 6:47 pm

No discharge without a You Tube account and a large hammer to beat it to death. For the record the P320 passed ALL the government drop test requirements. Still unacceptable I will admit but this product is just fine. I want one. I have the P938 and it is great, I just want more rounds.

      • Bill lemon January 23, 2018, 9:33 am

What all this BS re drop test. I don’t Personal stand around dropping my weapon. In during 50 years on carrying never dropped a pistol!!

    • M2MikeGolf January 26, 2018, 8:53 pm

I bought a 320 last year. When I heard all the whining about the discharge when dropping thing, I took my 320 and put a casing with primer in it (bullet pulled and no powder) and threw it on the ground. I did that for about a month. I’m a retired infantryman, I know how to break stuff. It never went off. I sent it to SIG on invitation to have it tweaked to stop the problem I never saw. It s a great pistol. I own two G19s and carried one in Iraq. I think that 320 is better suited for Infantry use although I found the G19 to be pretty good.

  • CA Frank January 12, 2018, 12:36 pm

Include a holster and mag carrier like Springfield XD models. Make a more attractive package. More importantly, get this model CA approved.

  • Kevin January 12, 2018, 12:03 pm

There is no such thing as “high-performance pistol that does it all” : Add double stack and you add width and weigh. Add sights like the gun pictured and you add size and the possibility of snagging. If you have a gun that’s comfortable to shoot then you probably have a gun that’s too big or heavy to carry comfortably all day, every day, every where.
If you want a carry gun that you will carry all the time, your first choices should be dependability; this gun should absolutely shoot every time you pull the trigger. It should be small enough and light enough to carry over long periods of time, standing, sitting, or walking, without discomfort. Forget about sights. If you can hit a refrigerator at 15 feet using the “point and shoot method”, that’s all the accuracy you are likely to need for a carry gun. Think you need a lot of ammo capacity? If you are prepared, you may get off a shot at an Assailant, maybe two at the most. Trying to explain the the Police or a Judge why you sprayed the neighborhood with another 8-10 rounds or shot the Assailant in the back while he ran away could land you some jail time.

    • charles January 12, 2018, 6:50 pm

Dam…why don’t you just move to Commiefornia and join that wine and cheese posse. Who died and left you incharge of firearms protocol!

    • Dgeorge January 12, 2018, 10:19 pm

One of the most practical & apparently, experienced based comments posted.

    • Don August 8, 2018, 9:31 pm

“explain the the Police or a Judge why you sprayed the neighborhood with another 8-10 rounds” … I thought I was a cop! 😉

  • Mike White January 12, 2018, 11:35 am

How does the P365 compare to the P938 on the range and practical use?

    • Torquemada January 12, 2018, 1:24 pm

Don’t know. I’ve carried the P938 for several years and I find it to be an ideal carry weapon. It shoots every time, and it is an effortless ‘o o

    • Torquemada January 12, 2018, 1:29 pm

The p938 is an ideal carry weapon. Completely dependable, and small enough to be an effortless carry weapon. I’ve carried it for several years now. Do you want to spend the day shooting it at the range? No. But that is not the point of a really versatile carry gun.

    • Brittany January 30, 2018, 10:47 pm

My EDC is the M11-A1 and I was just about to switch to the P938 for carry. The P365 looks a bit more enticing for everything that I want, and a LOT easier to conceal with more snugly fitting female clothes. That’s the only thing I’m not crazy about with my M11. Hmmm….

  • CFRing January 12, 2018, 11:10 am

Looks almost as good as my SR9c,

  • Chad Christiansen January 12, 2018, 11:04 am

You people need to look at the specs. It’s a quarter inch thinner than anything else like a glock 26 or xd mod2. It’s the same or smaller than the popular single stacks like the Shield yet holds 10+1 as opposed to 7+1. I carry an xdm compact that is similar in size and holds 13+1 but I might be willing to give up 3 rounds for a much slimmer gun.

    • Thomas Wagoner January 17, 2018, 2:43 pm

You might want to check Sig’s updated specs again. The P365 is 27mm/1.06” wide, the G26 is 30mm/1.17” wide, theG43 is 26mm/1.02” wide. the difference between the 27mm/1.06” of the 365 and the 30mm/1.17” G26 is around an 1/8″ not 1/4″ thinner as you stated.

  • Shawn January 12, 2018, 9:36 am

Striker fired. No trigger safety. Fool me once….

Why isn’t a single “journalist” asking SIG about the elephant in the room?

Why do they think it is “drop safe?”

Am I the only one who doesn’t trust SIG at this point? They knew about the drop safety problem because they had already been sued and they had already supposedly fixed the military contract pistols, and yet they initially lied.

Only after their public shaming did they offer the moronically titled “voluntary upgrade,” which still does not have a positive block, instead relying on a system which merely lightens up the parts meaning the potential is still there from a greater height.

Thank you Mr. Cohen for turning one of the most trusted brands in the world into the laughing stock of the gun world.

Take your color of the week program and go back to Kimber.

    • John Miller January 12, 2018, 12:39 pm

Sig had enough egg on their face after the p320 issue that they implemented a new drop test protocol. My understanding is that the p365 was dropped over 500 times from different angles before it was released publicly. The new test requirement is for something like 250 drops at a wide range of angles. I will try to share the review that had that data (if I can find it).

    • Jake January 12, 2018, 1:04 pm

      Yup

    • charles January 12, 2018, 6:53 pm

Yes you are, go buy another Glock.

  • Don January 12, 2018, 7:38 am

Springfield has done advanced in the hi capacity slim carry market. The xD mod 2. The 9mm and .45 version both already beat the Sig in capacity. Not bashing Sig, just stating what is available already. Now on to the p365. I love it. I think I will be owning one for sure. It looks great and is really compact. Perfect for these Indiana winters and hot summers.

  • Lon January 12, 2018, 7:00 am

If they make one in .40, I’ll buy it.

    • Zupglick January 12, 2018, 12:50 pm

      I want 10mm.

      • warzone January 16, 2018, 4:46 pm

        .40 is just 10mm short
        10mm is just a .40 magnum.
I’m waiting for the Desert Eagle in Beowulf .50

  • Roger January 12, 2018, 5:56 am

With all the feature that were described and shown, it looks like a winner to me.

  • Kenneth Thomas January 12, 2018, 3:57 am

If, I hadn’t already invested in a Glock 43 with +1 base plate and two +4 extended base plates for backup mags; I would pick up one. I do like that it isn’t as tall in the hand as most past Sig models. The CZ Rami comes close in the capacity but it is rather heavy for such a little pistol. I wonder how well does it pocket? My Glock 43 fits most of my jean and dress pants pockets.

  • Russ H. January 12, 2018, 3:47 am

Finally! Sig has not only joined the game but they\’ve one-upped the competition in single stack 9mm\’s. Staggered magazine design allows 10 rds in the size of a single stack grip plus it comes with night sites! Also, I believe a 12 rd extended mag available. If I hadn\’t just bought a Glock 43 Talo I\’d be buying this (may anyway) – my G43 only holds 7+1 rds in it\’s current configuration. I\’ve seen pre-order prices for the 365 as low as $500. It is supposed to be on shelves by the end of January 2018. It does require a proprietary (Sig) light if you go that route. I expect to see a Sig 320 in 10mm before long too (I\’ve got no further info – just a GOOD hunch).

  • Mark N. January 9, 2018, 1:04 am

I am not a Sig fan, but I like what I see. I am amazed that they get 10+1 in a package roughly the same size as my Kahr CW9 (7+1). I may be wrong, but this may be the only micro 9 on the market with that much capacity. And the price is right in line and competitive with the Shield, more than the base gun, less than the one with night sights.
    When will these be released?

    • James January 12, 2018, 7:06 am

Yup your wrong the sig p365 is the same size as the Taurus PT111 which comes with 2-12rd mags for $210.00 or the XD mod 2 in subcompact holds 13rds in flush mag and 16 extended. Sig won the MHS for army so now they just making shit. I wouldn’t waste my money. My Taurus PT111 has 2000rds thru it no problems ever for $210.00 tell me what handgun beats that

      • Justin January 12, 2018, 8:53 am

Actually the XD mod 2 is almost a quarter inch wider that’s why it can fit more Ammo it’s not a single stack sig fit 10 rds in a 1in package

        • Thomas Wagoner January 17, 2018, 2:47 pm

Better check the updated specs on Sig’s website. The P365 is not 1″ even though they initially have every gun writer and interenet junky in America saying it is. It’s 1.06″. About 1/8″ wider than a Glock 26.

          • Greg February 12, 2018, 7:16 am

From what I can find, the Glock 26 is 1.18″ wide, which would be about 0.120 wider than the Sig P365. So the P365 is considerably narrower than the Glock 26, and 2 ounces lighter (17.8 oz vs 19.8 oz) for the same 10+1 capacity. The specs I can find on the Taurus PT-111 indicate it is 1.2″ wide and weighs 22 oz, which would make it almost 1/8 inch wider and 1/4 lb heavier than the Sig P365. I have never owned a Sig, but it is hard to argue with Sig when they contend the P365 is the smallest and lightest 9mm with a capacity of 10+1 or more.

      • John Miller January 12, 2018, 12:33 pm

This is more on par with the single stacks like the XDS, shield, and Glock 43. From my view of the specs it’s about a quarter inch shorter in length and height than the PT111 and it’s 2oz lighter. For those that carry while running, bike riding or extended durations, that 2 ounces makes a big difference.

    • scott w. January 12, 2018, 11:21 am
