Time to repeal the NFA!

So, a lot of you have been posting this link in our comment section. It’s an official petition on WhiteHouse.gov to repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934, there is also one to repeal the 1986 Hughes Amendment.

To sign the petition, all you have to do is visit the website, submit your name and email, click the “sign now” button and then check your email for the WhiteHouse verification.  Click on that verification and you’re signature is added to the total count.

Now, if enough people sign the petition — the threshold is 100,000 signatures — the White House has to give an official response within 60 days. Signing the petition won’t repeal those ridiculous laws but it will notify the Trump administration that we are eager for action on this front.

At the time of writing this article, the NFA petition is almost halfway to the 100,000 goal, with 47,329 signatures. It needs 52,671 by Feb. 19, 2017 to get a response by the White House. The Hughes petition has 9,918 signatures and needs 90,082 by Feb. 19, 2017 to get a response.

The National Firearms Act is the reason why machine guns, short-barreled firearms, suppressors and other categories of arms are heavily regulated by the government.

Instead of simply being allowed to purchase a suppressor at your local gun store, you need to wade through a bunch of NFA red tape, including filling out paperwork, submitting fingerprints and a registration form, passing an ATF background check, obtaining a signature from a chief law enforcement officer and paying a $200 tax.

The NFA is outdated and it needs to be repealed.

Likewise, the Hughes Amendment needs to be repealed. Passed as part of the Firearm Owners Protection Act, it placed a civilian ban on fully automatic weapons that were manufactured past May 19,1986. The Hughes Amendment dried up the supply of available machine guns for the civilian market sending prices skyrocketing to the point where now only wealthy collectors and hobbyists can afford to purchase them.

Scrapping the Hughes Amendment would allow manufacturers to meet the current consumer demand for fully automatic firearms.

As the petition for the Hughes Amendment reads, “Since 1934 there have only been 2 known homicides committed with a legally owned fully automatic firearm and one of them was caused by a police officer. This law does nothing to prevent crime and it raises the price of legal automatic weapons to a ludicrous price due to supply and demand.”

I hope that you take some time this weekend to sign the petitions. Government works best when the people it serves tell it what to do in no uncertain terms. Today, via these petitions, is a great way to the ball rolling.

Great Work S.H. You are a true American hero. But what about the worst of all 1968 Gun Control Act? Which never prevented or stopped any person who wanted to use a firearm as a weapon in a crime, and will never, ever prevent gun use in crimes, But, was the pro-active beginning of the long planned Leftist agenda to use the totalitarian LBJ cartel to get their foot in the gun control law door to eventually implement target focused anti-Constitutional gun confiscation laws for future disarmament of all potential armed resistance to blatant government control, tyranny, and enslavement of American citizens?

  • Patriot February 18, 2017, 5:12 pm

I am very much in favor of repealing the NFA, but I wanted to mention that the illegal immigrants expense is much more than the cost of supporting the NFA which mainly harasses gun owners. The NFA probably helps the anti-gun radicals. Very little is said pertaining to illegal immigration expense. It has been estimated that $338 billion dollars per year is spent in various ways to support illegal immigrants. We are spending $338 billion dollars per year of working Americans tax money to support illegal immigrants while supporting the NFA to harass honest American gun owners.YES, Congress is that stupid !! This is tax money that American citizens have worked for and paid to the government to benefit citizens of the United States in many ways. How did we get a Congress that is totally rediculous, ignorant and reprehensible ??
We listened to their lies and were totally wrong to assume they were telling the truth !! No realistic significant effort was made by Congress to end illegal immigration and deport those being supported by working American taxpayers. I believe President Trump, in given time, will change this and deport most illegal immigrants that probably pay no taxes and are supported by working tax payers and taking many jobs that would be very beneficial to American workers. American workers need these jobs and deserve these jobs.

    Repeal the NFA, it’s unconstitutional.

  • MIKE February 13, 2017, 10:33 am

I am a former 911 worker near Myrtle Beach S.C.; Many callers stated they had been burglarized again but they didn’t want a Police Report. They stated the Police wouldn’t do Fingerprints or try to help solve the Crimes. Many Callers just wanted to verbally report all Different Types of Crimes. These calls were never entered into the Computer, Therefore, it appeared in the FBI Statistics that Crime has gone down.

All you Trump lovers are so smart but you can’t even work the website to sign a petition how smart are you I hope they get it you should have a gun do you that’s far if you use amendment make your great President Ronald Ragan for that and for the 1967 Milford bill with took away right to Carrie openly in California read history

    • Jeff February 12, 2017, 9:31 pm

Hey James, how about learning some punctuation and spelling before attacking other peoples’ intelligence. Your statement reads like and illiterate crack head typed it. Made me feel sorry for you pal, it really did.

  • Jd February 10, 2017, 7:18 pm

Would be easier to just get rid of the ATF

  • Zeebo February 10, 2017, 1:57 pm

I don’t think cheap legal machine guns are good idea. I have no qualms about going against a semi-auto assault rifle with my handgun but a full-auto? None of us would stand a chance in that scenario.

    • Slingblade February 10, 2017, 2:33 pm

That is a completely ridiculous assertion is so many ways!!! Get real!!!

    • bill February 10, 2017, 6:49 pm

Would make an invading force think twice before invading our shores. They’ve always been somewhat apprehensive about invading, case in point Japan, but knowing that that we have millions of full auto weapons, would definitely seal the deal. We’d have to make damn sure these weapons didn’t fall into the wrong hands though, like radical islamists.

    • Greg February 11, 2017, 9:19 am

Repealing the Hughes ammendment would only allow new machine guns to be owned. You would still be required
To undergo the extensive background check and pay the class 3 fees. The problems are never the fault of the weapons, it’s always the fault of the users.

      • Eric February 24, 2019, 5:22 am

I agree with that. It was my fault. I know I am responsible for myself alone. It’s no one’s fault but my own. I’m sorry I let everyone down

  • jerry smith February 10, 2017, 1:52 pm

Look at the rest of them while you are there. There is one calling for the arrest of Nazi war criminal George Soros.

  • Michael Rosenthal February 10, 2017, 8:41 am

The only moron is Trump. America needs more gun regulation not less.
Everyday there are more and more shootings that are attributed to our lax gun laws.
To answer your question I am a responsible gun owner. Not one of you nut cases that think everyone needs to be armed

    • Bob Dalton February 10, 2017, 10:56 am

Michael, my poor foolish contributor! It appears you have failed in your previous Scholastic endeavor! Please “RE-DO” and start reading about how many times our drugged up liberals are attempting to rob businesses and private residences, only to be stopped by someone who has a gun!!!

    • DRAINO February 10, 2017, 11:05 am

You are on the wrong website. No one here wants their God given rights infringed upon in anyway. Actually, crime is down according to the FBI while gun ownership is at an all time high. Notice the cities with the highest crime rates are in places that have the most stringent gun laws. Stop believing the drive-by media and the fake news they spread. Reason for yourself. Take personal responsibility for your own life and safety, like the forefathers intended. It’s not the govt’s role to do everything for us. Its called freedom for a reason. If you wish to not be free, simply move to another country. There are many that would love to enslave you and violate your rights. Enjoy!

      AMERICANISM!!!! NOT Globalism!!!!

    • 2A proponent February 10, 2017, 11:43 am

You are very misinformed or simply ignorant in your comment, “Everyday there are more and more shootings that are attributed to our lax gun laws.” It’s the PEOPLE that need control NOT GUNS! Why do morons think this way? Liberals, Leftists and Democrats traditionally hold this point of view to blame an inanimate object instead of going to the SOURCE of “gun violence” and that is people – put the BLAME and RESPONSIBILITY where it belongs!

If these idiots blame guns for “gun violence” then put the gun on trial, and absolve the HUMAN from any crime. People obvious think guns are like robots, or doctors that their first “directive” is to first do no harm…

What makes you think MORE laws will help? Get the criminals off the street – that is where the real violence starts from. I don’t think you are a responsible gun owner, maybe you think you are because you have taken “gun obedience training” and your gun doesn’t shoot at strangers.

      • Slingblade February 10, 2017, 2:42 pm

1 out of every 4 people who are in a prison on planet earth are in a prison in the United States…I think we have already done more than enough when it comes to “Get the criminals off the street”! Stop believing the BS “gun violence” propaganda!

    • John February 10, 2017, 11:58 am

Michael, you are just another whiny ignorant liberal who knows nothing and yet you think you know everything. You had best go to your “safe place” with your killery klinton blanket and cry because the people in this country are sick and tired of pukes like yourself.

    • Goose February 11, 2017, 11:43 am

Mr Rosenthal. to me it is about freedom, over all the years so many young people go the road to defend this country and our right to freedom, and then after thay do a lobbiest buys of a electid offficial, how much does any one have to see before this is understood. Taxes are a nesasary evil but dont pay your unfair share and the worse can happen, your property can be taken and throw you in jail, ya you can be free if you pay for it, in my world that is not free. No more laws, and regulations that chip away at mine and your freedom.

    • Wesley Cormican February 11, 2017, 1:50 pm

I think you are the moron
If you were a real gun owner you’d know that there were enough gun laws not being enforced
      Get real

  • Terry Carman February 10, 2017, 7:35 am

    Enough with the regs already!

    Done!!
That is the EASIEST petition button EVER! Let’s all get on board and send our message to the gun-friendly White House – we Americans want OUR pre-1934 gun rights restored!
Thanks for posting this article, by the way. This is one of those news items that I never would’ve heard about.

  • Lee Wood February 10, 2017, 4:28 am

you send something I cannot sign???

  • Will Driider February 10, 2017, 1:25 am

Having retired from two full careers in armed professions, I have had my fill of burst and full auto fire. I have no desire to own one or anything else under NFA restrictions. I remember when you could order guns through the mail and they were delivered to your door! So even if NFA items aren’t to my liking, I do support other peoples desires to have them and without the “deterrent” taxes, Gov delibertly imposed processing delays or restricting availability while the population grows as does the demand! These are regulations on consumable items that do not affect violent criminal activity. In addition the pervayor of the Rules: BATFE, tends to make them up as they go but caim they are “long held” but they never got around to put anything on paper bak then. They also go around the Laws as written with their “Letters” imposing restrictions because if they were to actually try and put it in the Law it would go on the Federal Register and could be challanged without a criminal court cases or by big manufacturers.

It is for these reasons I support both Petitions.

    • Jesse February 11, 2017, 10:50 am

      God bless you sir.

  • DRAINO February 9, 2017, 5:11 pm

Been there…..done that! Waiting for all you slow pokes to get on board and sign this thing. We are much more likely to see a positive response from Trump than from the moron we just booted out of office.
