This Simple Drill You Can Do on the Couch Will Improve Trigger Control

Just because you can’t get to the range doesn’t mean you can’t work on your fundamentals.

In the video below, our friends at USCCA show how you can work on your trigger control from the comfort of your living room.

The key is learning to isolate the index finger from the rest of the hand. If you squeeze your entire hand when you move your index finger you run the risk of impairing your grip and pulling your shot off target.

If you’re new to shooting, the demonstration in the video is a pretty clever way to practice manipulating that index finger without squeezing the whole hand.  Enjoy!

    Great training idea!! Another good method is to place an empty case on top of the slide, as close to the front sight as possible, and if you are moving more than your trigger finger during dry fire practice, the case will fall off. I also read a book by special forces author who used the 70-30 method, which means the support hand is exerting 70% of the force needed to hold the pistol, and the hand you hold the pistol is 30% of the force needed. I found that I was able to move my trigger finger more consistently and not over-grip the pistol which is a big contributor to missing your target. Using these two methods, my accuracy improved greatly. The best advice for accuracy; if you don’t move the pistol when you pull the trigger, you will hit what you are aiming at.

    That’s a great exercise, simple but very effective. I plan to use it for practice as described and as a warm-up for dry fire practice.
