Most of you have seen photos or heard someone speak of the Crye Precision Six12. For those of you patiently awaiting your revolving shotgun, I’m sorry to report they aren’t here yet. We had heard, going into the show, that the guns were set to ship. But that’s not true. Years have passed and the gun has more or less stood still. Small changes have been made to the design, and kinks have been worked out, but the design and feature-set have stayed the same. So what’s the holdup?

Straight from the horse’s mouth…. The root of Crye’s problems start with the company’s location. Manhattan. New York City. Crye Precision is in a state and a city that doesn’t really love firearm manufacturers. With special permission from the city, they were able to produce Six12s for military and police testing. Now with the Six12 being proven and widely accepted, Crye has plans to build a new facility outside of the city where production of the Six12 will take place. Where? They won’t say.

Still, we’re told this facility is well on its way to completion and Crye is patiently waiting on their FFL/SOT to be finalized so that they can start production. We have been told that we should see Six12s in full production at the new facility in quarter 3 of 2016. Finally, we have an approximate date to look forward to. So mark your calendars.

The features of the Six12 have mostly stayed the same. The price is said to be right around $2,000 for the stand-alone unrestricted version. Other parts will be available for purchase and, yes, you will be able to get all of the parts to recreate the Salvo 12 SBS (Short Barreled Shotgun) version of the gun that stole the show at last years SHOT show. We at GunsAmerica are impatiently awaiting the release of this shotgun. As more details emerge about it and its timeline for release we will continue to keep you posted.

This gun will never come to fruition.

  • Pete May 8, 2017, 10:09 pm

Ar conversion is interesting. I don’t see how this come close to comparing to a M1 or M4 benelli as a stand a lone. My M1 with ext. is 1-8 Light and blazing fast.

  • Big John January 10, 2017, 4:54 am

I was goin to actually purchase one of these when cyre said the price tag was going to be around the same price as ‘other high end tactical shotguns’. Seems their words were bullshit💩

Also, is it me or did they sell out the public by contracting out their original design to mil / law enforcement only? I’m seeing a civilian version… Is the original design not going to be available for civilian use?

Move you good gear out of state, like California, nnnnnnnnnooooooottttttt. Midwest is the way to go. I hate to see that at your state you deal with coughing up in the beauraacy of tax paying Californians. Sorry dude.

  • Johnny5 May 26, 2016, 6:04 pm

Not really looking forward since release is after 41F. Probably would have bought one, but almost definitely not now. Too much hassle to get trust members together from all over the state to simply finish the GD paperwork. ~:(

  • Mark March 2, 2016, 11:43 am

That is just a totally cool video makes me almost want to go out and drop two grand…thank god for second hand gun sales at places like arms list…

  • vinny February 6, 2016, 12:25 am

A variant of the “Streetsweeper” platform would be much better than this ‘bullpup’ style. I wonder if that would be possible?

  • Kivaari February 5, 2016, 11:58 pm

Move out of the city? Why would any gun maker stay in the NE outside of Maine? A gun company in NYC or the Yonkers makes absolutely no sense. They are over-taxed, over regulated, and cast as being evil gun people. The left and east coasts hate guns. Well until you go south of DC.

Hmm. I guess that Chiiappa’s an S&W’s revolving shot pistols don’t count. Nor does the lever action shotgun count. Given the necessary clearance between the revolver’s magazine/chamber assembly, I’m not sure I’d want a revolving shotgun. Remember, shotguns are held by the buttstock and the fore-end, which would put the shooter’s forearm right in the path of the gas leakage from the chamber/barrel gap. This can be annoying in a pistol where neither hand is near that gap; in a full-power shotgun this could be downright painful and possibly destructive to the limb thus extended.
One way this could be dealt with is with a “long pepperbox” style of shotgun with revolving barrels… I don’t think so. What we have (semi-auto self loaders, pump shotguns, the occasional magazine fed self-loader (Saiga) and a few bolt action shotguns… Isn’t this enough? You’d wind up with a shotgun mated to a coffee can receiver that weighed..way too much.
We have what we need. We don’t need extra weight and burnt sleeves added to the mix. Besides, if you can’t hit whatever with three to five shells worth, maybe you should invest in either glasses or a course in shotgun handling.

well, during demonstrations at shot show you could see that the cylinder slides forward, sealing the cylinder with the barrel for the shot, hence why the silencer is a viable option for the weapon, and a weapon like this is unique, a very compact semi-auto shotgun that can be reloaded quickly by swapping out cylinders (although somewhat impractical due to the bulky size of the cylinder) or shells extracted and loaded in one by one in a removed cylinder, the lack of a gas system for repeated fire enables the gun to have a compact design that’s sturdy and reliable which fits the idea of having an underslung breaching shotgun, on top of that, non-lethal rounds that would otherwise be unable to cycle in a semi-auto shotgun can be fired without worry with this design.

Some east coast states are “ok” but even Texas is now a days below average. New york and California are objectivity Trash gun law states. In mine you can drink a beer in a bar with a gun open carried. Biggest issue is that ghetto to my west known as Illinois. Six12 was designed to be an undermount. The stand alone model is redundant, overdelayed and overpriced; Maybe because they had to build a whole new facility. Bet it never sees distribution for sale to civilians.

  • Chief February 5, 2016, 12:43 pm

2 grand? dudes Dudes DUDES!!!! Uh no

  • Captain Bob February 5, 2016, 12:01 pm

I don’t understand how they will be able to sell this to the “general population.” The original “revolving shotgun” was the “Streetsweeper” and it was banned by the BATF. How will they get the OK for this?

    • steve July 13, 2016, 2:27 pm

The original Street Sweeper was banned by name, not by type or class of firearm.

  • Capn_Stefano February 5, 2016, 11:58 am

Seems the guys who do this blog and the manufacturer of this new prototype never heard of the Street Sweeper or Striker 12, simple 12 shot revolvers which were arrogantly added to the NFA DD classification by BATF back in the 90s. Nothing has been done to challenge that gun grab, and IMO it’s very foolish $$ wise to revisit the manufacture of such

It blows meaway that no one realized that if they can ban a REVOLVER they can ban any modern firearm

  • Robert Smith February 5, 2016, 11:48 am

A $200 pump-gun has nearly the same functionality. The 870 and 500 have every imaginable after-market accessory, pistol grips, folding stocks, sights, short barrels, whatever your tactical requirements may be. If you want under-barrel mounting on a rifle, a Serbu is half the price and a lot more compact. I guess there is a certain “coolness” factor to a revolver shotgun, but at $2,000 they are not going to sell many.

    • Al February 5, 2016, 9:00 pm

Also, it would seem to me you’re giving up ease of handling and target acquisition in a firearm that already can discharge multiple pellets. I would think that’s a redundancy not worth two grand. For the trouble and bulk of a revolving cylinder you might as well design a belt fed pump.

  • Louis February 5, 2016, 11:08 am

    Too heavy, too bulky. Why?

  • Dave Hicks February 5, 2016, 9:13 am

    Looks bulky.

  • Calvin Grimalkin February 5, 2016, 7:38 am

Nothing new under the sun. The LeMat, Drillings, combination guns of various types over the years.

How about a practical combination gun for the American civilian. How about a pump 12 gauge, with .22 LR or .22 Magnum semi auto attached to the barrel. Given modern materials, a .22 semi auto arrangement could be added to 12 gauge barrel without adding a lot of weight or bulk to the firearm.

  • CJS3 February 5, 2016, 7:05 am

Even though a date has been given for production (it wasn’t really a date, just a targeted time period), I’m guessing this weapon will never be produced. As long as gun manufacturers insist on locating in the northeast US, they will always have obstacles placed in their way by local anti gun governments.

    • Pete February 5, 2016, 7:49 am

Ah whats wrong with the northeast?
Ignorance is not your friend. Maine Vermont an New Hampshire all have better gun laws than 99% of the US.
Stop lumping areas into general groups.

      • Brett February 5, 2016, 8:34 am

You forgot PA their neighbor. More than welcome here too.

          YES. ↑

      • Old Guy February 5, 2016, 10:19 am

Good for those three states, but you math is not good. The great plains states and most of the South excellent laws. Check Kansas laws some time,

        • deerflyguy February 5, 2016, 1:23 pm

Whatever you do, whether you love guns or not, never think that gun laws have necessarily been long thought out, passed after serious consideration, and that they will ultimately benefit nearly everybody.
I am from NY State, and Gov Coumo’s Safe Act, a mish mash of holier than thou gun restrictions, put together quickly by people who largely do not understand firearms (NYS legislators), passed by the legislature, without input by gun owners or sellers, and signed into law by him, is a shining example of a nuisance law that has been met by forehead slaps by those whom are tasked to enforce it, and rampant civil disobediance by those who have been forced to live under it. A classic, liberal failure of a law that is at best a feel good piece of legislation, that fails everybody involved!

        • Pete February 6, 2016, 8:02 am

Kansas has the same setup as NH except NH is a “Shall issue” rather than a “may issue” when it comes to concealed carry. VT and ME are constitutional carry states. No permits.

      • Gun Freakshow January 10, 2017, 5:04 am

99%? Bullcrap… AK, AZ, MT, ID, TX, TN, WY, GA, FL, OK to name a few have way ‘better’ gun laws than anywhere up there. Why don’t you check other states gun laws before spattering such hogwash.

      • Seth Patterson January 29, 2020, 4:34 pm

He mispoke. But new york and california are objectivity

Was the idea here to latch onto the teet of the well funded and well resourced contemptuous of the regular man NYPD and give them swanky cool oppressor tools to. . .like. . .more effectively oppress. Why in the heck else would anyone set up shop in Manhattan?

Wonder where this new facility is. Hopefully not someplace stupid like still in NY, NJ, or CT. Dont be like Kimber and stay in New York, they do it just to sound fancy and justify charging more for their wares. Operational costs as well as the requirements for cost of living will plummet the further you move away from Manhattan.

A $2k shotgun eh? Yea, it’s for the NYPD goonsquad.
