Every American who can legally own a hand gun should own one. There are about 300,000,000 Muslim jihadists terrorists in the world. They believe it is their religious duty to destroy America. They, to a large degree, have the support of the 1,200,000,000 other Muslims They are moving into Europe and America in large numbers with the intention of destroying our way of life. One day you will be glad you had a gun to defend yourself. If on the other hand the Muslims change their murderous ways, that they have followed for the past 1500 years and actually become a religion of peace, you will have had the pleasure of owning a wonderful firearm. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

A lot of good people out there are like me at times , do I buy a hand gun to protect my family or do I fix the leaking roof … It’s hard to turn loose of a month’s income for a pistol.
My old Llama 45acp still works although the ejector is cracked.
At present I’m set on defense and looking forward to spring and a dry shooting range. (and roof)

  • Ben Hochstatter January 9, 2016, 2:23 am

69 year old Vietnam Vet. Love my .40 S&W XD, and use it as my carry gun here in Iowa. Sorry about you poor folks in California. We have “shall carry” and a more enlightened Republican Governor! I would however love to add a ‘carry’ 9mm like the one reviewed. Good luck all, and Springfield, keep up the good work!

I am a 74 year old who has been shooting since 1967. I spent 3 year in the U.S.. Army. This was back when we carried M1 Gerands and later the much lighter carbine. After serving in the first days of Vietnam as advisors and furnished communication. Shot as often we could with the Colt 1911 45 acp and the,Carbine. After my discharge i went in the U. S. Border patrol on both the southern border, Chula Vista, Calif. We got to go to the range every couple of weeks but it was a very time. Carried the S&W 357. We were issued wad cutters almost every month 4 or 5 boxes. I then transfeted to northern border in way north Maine. Man it was a different weather with all the snow, 200″ and 25 below in winter. But there were benifits as we had a heated indoor range and more wad cutters. Any time day or night could spend time burning up the ammo. Cold got to much for this Texan and transfered to Dallas as a Crininal Investigator. It wasn’t too much time they came out with the Glock and a reduced price for law enforcement. Now i could really burn up the 9mm in my model 19.i spent 30 years with Immigration the last 10+ years as a Senior Special Agent with a multi agent task force working Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement. We also got 4 or 5 boxes of 9mm FMJ. The only really different activities were as Sky Marshals. The ammo had to change to prevent an on flight puncture of airplane. They came up with using a 38 with special loads. Believe it was a wad cutter loaded upside down with a hugh cavity on the nose which wouldn’t exit a body.
But got back to my Glock and several other automatics.
After retiring in 1997 ammo i had to purchase in over 30 years. And it has gotten to the point where, me and other coggers, could only look at the new guns when they came out due to the prices increasing. And now the price of any ammo has to be beyond our purchasing power. And it is getting really hard to find ammo made in this country. But i still have to feed the gun and I can miss a couple meals. I went out yesterday in the rain with puddles and mud and rain. My wife said no way and she and her 9mm stayed home. I told her i was going as long as I can keep my gun hand and head above water i am going.
Boy winning a new gun was somethink would happen. That would truly be a God send. Thank you for offering me a chance to finaly being able to have a new gun.
    Richard

I spent a little over 30 years with the U.S. Immigration Service. Four of those years started in the Border Patrol on both the southern border and the northern border in the frozen state of Maine. We had a heated indoor range so i could shoot any day or night with the wheel gun. I got to where the cold was to much and transfered to Dallas as Criminal Investigator. It was a great day when the gun world turned upside down and the Glock reared it’s head. In the begining they were offering a reduced rate for law enforcement. Been carring that along with several orhers i owned. The great thing is we were issued wad cutters almost as often as we wanted. That was like a kid in a candy store. I retired after the last 3 years in a combined agency task force on Organized crime and drug enforcement. Since retiring it has really gotten to hard to obtain ammunition without selling off your possesions. I still manage at age 74. Yesterday it was raining and has been for days. But that didn’t stop my time at the range. Pools of standing water and mud in the rain didn’t dampen the joy of shouting. Now the clothes got the dampness. Wife wimped out with her 9mm . Said it was too wet. I told her as long as i can see the target and keep my gun hand and head above water it would be a great day. I have gotten to the point, along with a lot of older coggers, to just look at the new guns and not being able to afford them. Winning one of these would really be a god send.

I’ve owned an XD-M for several years now and after hundreds of rounds, without a problem, I would recommend any Springfield for serious concealed carry gun owners.

  • Eric B January 8, 2016, 9:50 pm

I carry or should say did carry and XD 40 cal until my wife decided that she really liked it needless to say I had to go back to .45acp which is fine, but the XD is much more concealable and easy to carry. Sign me up so I can carry an XD again, I have given up any chance of talking my wife out of it.

    • Mikial January 11, 2016, 6:38 pm

That’s very cool that you were able to keep your SKS. Two and a half years in Iraq and I couldn’t keep anything.

  • Gene Burbary January 8, 2016, 2:37 pm

I am a committed Bullseye and Action pistol shooter. I shot my son’s and a friend’s XDs 45 ACP and fell in love.. This gun rocks;. I used a Bullseye load with a with a 200 grain bullet and held the black at 50 feet. This from a 3.3 inch barrel is fantastic. I have now got my eyes on a 4″ MOD 2. Keep it up Springfield Armory

  • Robert Sandoval January 8, 2016, 1:50 pm

I live in the anti-firearms capital of the world, California, go easy I am only here for my last 2 years of college, and I cannot legally purchase any of the great guns offered by Springfield as the state has basically banned my 2nd Amendment right to a handgun, and they’re working on eliminating my right to buy a rifle of my choosing next; for my safety they say. Can’t get worse than that, being “protected” by sheer dumb luck that I won’t need one whilst carrying out my daily business. While I can’t buy one, I’m sure I can be gifted one.

    Thanks, and love the site.

  • KMacK January 8, 2016, 1:25 pm

I would love to enter the contest…
but I live in California. It’d be just my luck that I would win but be unable to claim the prize.
Good luck to those of you who live in free states!

I love the Springfield XD’s this look like a great addition.

  • Scott Thomas January 8, 2016, 10:12 am

I have been an avid shooter for years, but never could afford my own firearm. Recently, a road rage incident happened to my father where a man ran him off the road, jumped out of his truck and then threatened him with a gun. This prompted me to go out and purchase my first handgun. I purchased a full-frame firearm, but now have just taken a CCW class, and want something that I can carry. The XD-S would be perfect for that.

  • Jeff Ames January 8, 2016, 9:46 am

Hello, I’m 63 don’t hunt anymore but still shoot. I live in the country and can shoot off the back deck. The whole family enjoys shoot, wife, kids and grandchildren. We used to get together once a month, but with ammo prices, it’s down to 3 to 4 times a year now. So when we do get ready for range day, we go balls to the wall. The kids go to rummage sales, buy up cheap nicknacks. We set up two step ladders on a big tarp, makes clean up easy, with boards on the steps. Line up the nick backs, BLAST away. We have some competition shooting also. Have a 2×4 with holes drilled in it to hold stick matches, at 50 feet with .22 rifles, 25 feet with .22 pistols, we light em up. We make it an all day event, grilling some burgers n brats, with some potatoes , salad, yum. A few years back, at our Christmas gathering, I told my two boys to open my gun safe, go through my guns and divide them up, they thought I was dying, I said no, just don’t hunt or shoot much anymore, and why should they wait till I do die to get them. They can shoot them now, just told them not to sell them. I told them what firearms I wanted to keep, a rifle, 12ga, and a pistol, also set aside a shotgun, rifle and pistol for their sister. I have bought more guns since then, the wife says why, I just say it’s a guy thing, like we never stop looking at a beautiful women. The boys where over a few weeks ago with some friends, just before we received 11″ of snow, wasn’t to cold yet. Talked me into coming out to shoot and even the wife came out to shoot her new .380acp Taurus Curve, her new CCW. MORAL OF THE STORY, A FAMILY THAT SHOOTS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER.

    • KMacK January 8, 2016, 1:23 pm

Have you considered taking up reloading? Get the family together for a reload party, reload your stuff, then a month later, shoot it. It’s a good way to get everybody educated in everything firearms-related and it’s fun. For the cost of one afternoon’s shooting, you could get a complete reloading set with bullets and powder. Note: I don’t suggest pouring bullets – that’s both dangerous and health-risking and pre-made bullets aren’t that expensive. Ditto shotgun shells. You could try different loadings in both pistol, rifle, and shotgun and find the “perfect” load for each weapon you own.
Best part is that it’s another chance to get the family together in a shooting-related fun day.

    • Michael Ockinga January 8, 2016, 2:57 pm

It sounds like you have a lot of fun shooting. Sadly, ammunition has become ridiculously expensive. It wasn’t that long ago when one could purchase .22LR for $.05 per round. Now you are lucky to find it under $.10 per round. I fear before Obama is done, the liberals will try to tax ammunition to the point no one will be able to afford it. I have reloaded rifle ammunition for many years. I have been able to afford to shoot a 300 Win Mag because I reloaded; haven’t bought a box of the stuff in years. Sadly, some of the best powders are now either impossible to find, or cost prohibitive. I have reloaded for a .44 Mag revolver, but not yet for my 9mm pistol. If you study reloading, you will learn that reloading for semi-automatic, pump or lever pistols and rifles is a little more critical. Due to weaker actions on those weapons, tolerances are more important. It can be done safely, but precise overall cartridge length measurement and case condition are important issues because of cartridge feeding issues and case head separation which, in my experience, is more common in lever guns and semi-autos. Cases don’t last as long when shot in lever guns or semi-automatics. I hope we all can enjoy shooting sports for years to come. Good shooting.

I am 67 years old a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran. I love shooting but need a good pistol and a good rifle to carry out my belief in our country’s Constitution. I am not a violent person unless you mess with my family and my property.

  • James Collins January 8, 2016, 8:12 am

My first real gun other than
My first gun other than bb’s was a Model 56 Springfield 22 rifle. Received it for my ninth birthday in 1945. I still have it along with a 16 ga. Westernfield pump that was my fathers. Both of these are excellent weapons. I could use a nice .40 pistol in my collection. I have a few other guns also but these are my favs.
