We had an article about this gun from Range Day before SHOT this year. It was created by Springfield as a basic platform from which to build a true competition 1911, without all the bells and whistles you may not want if you buy a full tricked out gun.

Rob Leatham, who was quoted in the first article and is featured here, is perhaps the most impressive competitive pistol shooter on the planet. Rob shoots Springfield Armory exclusively, and helps design their competition guns. We have had Rob in for several videos over the years and this gun is the one I have seen him the most excited about, almost like he was saying “I wish this was offered when I was starting out.” You can’t be passionate about shooting without being passionate about new shooters, and that goes double for new competitive shooters. Of the tens of millions of American gun owners, it is the hundreds of thousands of competitive shooters who do the heavy lifting when it comes to promoting our sport and our love of firearms. The new Springfield Armory Range Officer will provide a great start for those choosing the 1911 format.
