Retired St. Louis police Captain David Dorn, 77, was shot to death on Tuesday early in the morning. Dorn was killed by looters at a local pawn shop.

The shooting was streamed live on Facebook. Dorn was trying to protect the shop from looting.

Police say they have no suspects and are reaching out to the community for assistance. Four other officers were shot during the protests but sustained non-critical injuries.

Dorn, a 38-year veteran of the police, worked at the pawnshop and would check on the building when its burglar alarms went off. His wife, Ann Marie Dorn, is a sergeant with the St. Louis police.

“We’re saddened by what took place in St. Louis yesterday,” a Facebook spokesperson told the Post-Dispatch. “Under our policies, the video has been covered with a warning screen but remains on the platform so that people can raise awareness or condemn this event.”

Mourners placed flowers and other mementos outside of the store where Dorn was killed. They also put up a sign that reads ‘Y’all killed a black man because ‘they’ killed a black man? Rest in peace.”

“George Floyd should not have died the way he died. It wasn’t acceptable what the officers have done and they need to be held accountable,” said Missouri Governor Mike Parson. “Nor should that retired police officer that died last night.”

“The people that shot him should be held accountable. And no, they’re not protesters,” Parson continued. “They’re criminals and they’re thugs and they need to be held accountable and hopefully they get hunt down, the people who have done that last night because it has nothing to do with protesting, has nothing to do with George Floyd. It has to do with criminal behavior.”

Parson is calling for 1,000 members of the National Guard to support police and end the violence.

Dorn worked his way up from patrol officer to Deputy Commander of the Bureau of Patrol Support. When he retired from the St. Louis police he joined the Moline Acres P.D. as the Chief of Police.

Dorn’s family has asked that supporters donate to CrimeStoppers or BackStoppers if they would like to help. CrimeStoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Dorn’s killers.

Jack Posobiec started a Funly campaign for the Captain David Dorn Memorial. So far people have donated over $200,000 to the fund. The funds will go to Dorn’s family.

Other people have set up fraudulent crowd-funding accounts in Dorn’s name but they aren’t authentic, Dorn’s family says. If you are going to donate, please double-check that you are giving money to the legitimate fundraisers.

They have arrested and charged an individual with the murder of David Dorn. Hope they have a solid case to convict this scumbag if he is guilty.
