Taurus just announced a full-size version of their popular G2 series, the new G3 series. Like the G2, the G3 is a polymer-framed, striker-fired double-stack pistol chambered for 9mm Luger, but the G3 is larger with a longer slide and barrel and greater capacity.

Taurus offers the pistol in three different magazine configurations. The standard is a flush magazine with a 15+1 capacity. There is a 10-round option for restricted markets and a 17-round extended magazine.

In addition to the capacity bump the G3 has a 4-inch barrel compared to the G2’s 3.2 inches. The G3 includes all of the features that have made the G2 series popular including an integral trigger safety, a manual thumb safety, a loaded chamber indicator, and an ergonomic grip.

The grip offers good control without being overly aggressive, which makes the G3 comfortable for everyday carry. With flush magazines the G3 is still small enough to carry concealed with an inside-the-waistband holster.

Dimension-wise the G3 is in-line with many popular service pistols. It’s just under 7.3 inches long and 5.2 inches tall not using extended magazines. It’s 1.2 inches wide at the widest. The gun has an unloaded weight of just under 25 ounces.

With extended magazines the G3 has a slightly longer grip which can help people with larger hands but the real benefit is the added capacity. The grip has generous texturing with molded stippling on all sides and along the front- and backstrap, and the frame is relieved with thumb grooves and index finger “memory pads” above the trigger guard.

One visible change is that the G3 has a slightly different slide profile. Instead of the scallops forward of the ejection port on the G2, the G3 has deep front serrations to match the rear slide serrations.

The trigger is rated to have a 6-pound pull with a brief takeup, a clean break and a short reset. Unlike many striker-fired designs, the G3 is built with a trigger that can fully cock the striker which gives shooters the option for a second strike if they run into a bad primer.

Of course, Taurus’ main selling point of the G3 is price. Like the G2 the G3 is very affordable with a suggested price of just $345. Pricing online and in stores will probably be around $300 or under. The price includes two magazines, with packages including two 10-round mags, two 15-round mags, or one 15- and one 17-round mag with extension.

Lots of hype about Taurus G3 and G3c. When will they be distributed in CT with 10 round magazines. If we can’t find them. we can’t by them.

Do you need the spacer for the G3 17 round mags to fit the G2C or will it hopefully work without it?

I have a G2, wonder if will the larger G3 mags fit in the G2. That might be too much to ask.

Yes, both the 15 and 17 round magazines will fit the G2C. There is a vendor on Ebay, Bloody Wheels that makes 3D printed spacers for the 15 round magazines. I saw a Utube vid where the vid maker was demonstrating one. Looked to be real good quality and around $6? if I remember correctly. Also found out a Sig P226 22 round mag works in the G3 so I would assume that it would work in the G2C also if it works in a G3. I have a G2C 9mm so I’ve searched the net for this and actually if you go on the Taurus site you can buy the 17 rounder w/spacer.
