It would be very easy to think that the threat to our 2nd Amendment freedom is over now that the “assault weapon” ban has been removed from the proposed national anti-gun legislation. All we have left in the current version are “universal background checks, and everyone supports that, right? Wrong! Nobody wants guns in the hands of criminals and those who would harm others, but statistically those people don’t get their guns through legal channels, any legal channels. All this new “universal background check” scheme will accomplish is the creation of national mandatory gun registration system. Within a generation at most, every gun will be registered to an individual in America, and that is a disaster waiting to happen. Gun confiscation always follows gun registration throughout history, and there is nothing to say that today’s politician would-be dictators are any better than the despots of previous generations. And yes folks, it can happen here. It is crucial that we win this fight, and that means that everyone needs to contact their legislators by the beginning of next week. “Universal background checks” has got to be dead on arrival. The real Sandy Hook conspiracy doesn’t need a theory. We have now faced a sustained and well funded attack on our 2nd Amendment freedom that is unprecedented, and this is most likely only the beginning.

But we have to do something, right? Wrong again. Statistically, unless you are a racial minority living in an inner city with a crime rate several times the national average, your kids are pretty safe from being harmed with a gun in any way. If you have a pool, bring home plastic bags, drive a car or have a steep stairway you might want to address those issues first, because they kill far more middle class white kids than guns. Government, or government gone wrong, has historically been the largest mass murderer of innocents civilians, including kids. Hitler killed over a million kids and he limitted himself mostly to only one race, and that was only about 70 years ago, not 700 years ago, in what was one of the richest countries in the world at the time. This is why the Founding Fathers of the USA decided to make a Bill of Rights, and to put the 2nd Amendment second, right after free speech, because in order to guarantee God given inalienable rights, you have to keep the civilian population armed. That will be threatened, within one generation, if we cave into “universal background checks” today.

Benjamin Franklin once said, ” “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” It may feel to you like you are not giving up essential liberty by eliminating the private transfer of firearms, but do you really want to leave it to your children to find out if you made them safer or worse off with knee jerk legislation? There is a very small chance you will even ever know someone who lost a child to a gun related death. Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot may not have been Americans, but we put George Takei in a concentration camp for heaven’s sake. Who is to say that a bloodthirsty dictator could not rise up here, right after he tells you what your kids can eat in school and attempts to ban your super sized soft drinks? The time is now to act. Go on Facebook! Email your contacts list! Text your phonebook! These are not scare tactics. They are historical facts and you are a fool let the influence you hold in your hand slip away.

What happened after Katrina when the government wanted the right to shoot anyone with a gun on sight? They took the guns away from the law abiding people. The bad guys never turned in their guns, and for weeks the streets of New Orleans were ruled by gangs of armed looters. They even fired on helicopters that were dropping sandbags on the breeches in the levies. Since December 14th we have all seen what hysteria can accomplish in our “modern” society. The anti-gunners and their lapdog media cronies have been unrelenting, seizing what they consider an “opportunity” to take the next step toward a disarmed populace.

Does anyone believe that Michael Bloomberg would stop at cigarettes and big sodas if he didn’t have to worry about an America that can shoot back when he sends in his personal army to enforce some law that he and he alone thinks is in our best interest? This guy could run for president with his billions next, and he is the best dressed candidate we have at present for “maniacal dictator.” Is anyone fooled that this gun registration scheme isn’t just step one in a larger plan? At some point more white kids will eventually be killed and yet another opportunity will present itself to knock the gun control baseball out of the park. The speed with which the media blitz after Sandy Hook kicked in proved that this isn’t all just paranoia on the part of gun nuts. The anti-gunners are standing at the plate, waiting to swing. The “national discussion on gun control” started before the blood was dry in Connecticut, and no matter what you think of all the “hookers actors” videos on Youtube, it is pretty clear that all of the official interviews with the parents were scripted and planned for an anti-gun agenda.

We all learned with the passage and subsequent Supreme Court defense of Obamacare that the masses in America have been medicated and paid off enough to ensure that they can accomplish anything with the proper sales pitch in the media. If you had any doubt, the November elections sealed the deal. What we don’t know is how far even our existing politicians would go were it not for an armed populace. They sure are going to great lengths to disarm us. For instance, we were told “don’t worry, there won’t be any death panels” as our national healthcare systems became nationalized as a new “tax” with Obamacare. How much do you want to bet that behind closed doors the only reason they backed off any denial of care was the fear of the armed family members of death panel victims? What is the answer? Disarm that family as soon as granny is denied her surgery! How do we do that? Make sure we know where every single gun is located first. This is what “universal background checks” will accomplish.

You could play this out with every kind of big government abuse. You voted against the union and lost? You are now disgruntled. No guns! You don’t support our latest war? You must be a terrorist sympathizer. No guns! You don’t believe the government story on the latest mass death of innocent civilians? You are a potential terrorist. No guns! With the abuse and expansion of The Patriot act and her ugly sisters, you could theoretically buy an MP3 player from a South Korean seller on Ebay today, who the government then says is getting said MP3 players from his brother in North Korea, and end up with your phone bugged on the no fly list, and, you guessed it, NO GUNS, for the rest of your life. This isn’t some kind of joke. The only reason we haven’t devolved to this point is because American gun owners do still have some political power, and the government has no idea who owners at least half of the guns out there. We will lose this with “universal background checks.”

Next week the US Congress is going to begin voting on the first of what will surely be a tidal wave of anti-gun legislation in the coming year, especially after the knee jerk successes the anti-gunners have had in New York, Colorado, and now Connecticut. They have paired the legislation coming next week down to what they think can pass, but we have to make sure that it does not pass. It is very important to call your individual US Senators and reps in the House of Representatives this week and early next week. Don’t put it off, and don’t just use the NRA form letter pages. The government understands the quantifiable power of the NRA, but what they underestimate are the wishes of the actual constituents, and not just in the strongly pro-gun states. Privately, very few members of the US Congress believe that gun control of any type will do anything to curb crime of any kind, and nearly all of them care little about it one way or the other. They need to hear from their constituents. “I vote, and I am watching you.”

Private transfers of firearms are integral to a free and armed society. The term “universal background checks” has replaced “the gunshow loophole” in political and media jargon, but we are talking about the same thing. Federal law requires that all interstate transfer of firearms be handled through a Federal Firearms License-holder, or “FFL dealer,” but in-state transfers don’t require a dealer. In most states, you can meet someone at the gym in a pillates class and buy a gun right out of her gym bag, with no paperwork other than getting a copy of each other’s drivers license. It may sound scary, but in practice this is not how criminals get their guns. Almost all crime guns statistically are previously stolen and bought on the street from mutually known criminals. A second source is the “straw purchaser,” where a criminal gets a friend or relative with a clean record to go buy a gun. “Universal background checks,” on local transfers between individuals, at gunshows, at the gym, or even through a GunsAmerica ad, won’t fix either of those situations, and it sets us up for a fall down the road when an out of control government decides we don’t need guns anymore “for our own protection.”

This current legislation was brought to the floor buy Chucky Schumer, who came after GunsAmerica back in 1999 trying to ban internet gun sales. He is a completely ignorant man and has no concern over what the actual wishes of his constituents might be. At the time he suggested that online sales of guns would lead to a rash of illegal guns being shipped without FFL involvement. Eventually he went silent after I went on CNN and said that he had never stopped to consider that it is a lot easier and cleaner to sell a gun to someone locally at a bar or something than to create a door to door paper trail of shipping documents. This guy is an idiot, but he wields considerable power, and he is a leader in the anti-gun movement. The New York legislation that passed actually has a clause prohibiting the online purchase of … ammunition, and makes all but family transfers of firearms without an FFL dealer illegal. Ruthless politicians don’t do things for the good of society. They have an personal agenda and they do things that will only extend their own power.

If we let this lunacy gain ground at the national level we are setting ourselves up for the next opportunistic gun grab after the fortuitous slaughter of white people, which will happen. The police report from Sandy Hook isn’t even out yet, and some of the stuff on Youtube about the alleged massacre is downright scary. If anything even close to this happens again in the not so distant future, like within five to ten years, we will wake up the morning after to nothing short of mandatory gun confiscations from legislation that is being written now, in preparation for the inevitable event. Ask the people in New York if they support or even care about taking guns, even dreaded “assault weapons” from law abiding people. Their elected legislators wrote and signed sloppy legislation overnight that didn’t even exempt law enforcement or the National Guard, and which will do nothing to prevent any crime, or another Sandy Hook. Ask the voters in Connecticut the same thing. Their legislators passed a set of laws yesterday, in another midnight session, that doesn’t even make sense and that most likely violates Federal law. The anti-gun politicians are salivating because they don’t think their constituents will stand up against them. The next election is still over a year away. They need to hear from you, and we all need to follow through when that next election does come, and VOTE THEM OUT.

The battle lines have been drawn. Rich, privileged politicians like Bloomberg and Schumer fear a free citizen with a gun, especially if that person doesn’t have the same color skin as they do, or doesn’t talk in quite the same accent as them. I will say to all of you a big “I told you so” from back in the primaries when I urged everyone to vote for Ron Paul or don’t vote at all. The anti-gunners, with full support from President Obama who many Republicans (on the dole) defended as not being anti-gun, are sustaining an attack on our gun freedom that is unprecedented. Pick a political issue that maintains its steam over more than two weeks, let alone four months. In our fast, smartphone enabled 24 hour news cycle society even big issues come and go pretty quick. Yet this attack was pre-planned and well funded, from day one, and it continues in full force today. This is only the beginning, mark my words. We have only seen the beginning of this long term plan to disarm America. If this matters to you, if you care about a free America for your children and grandchildren, armchair activism isn’t going to work on this one. We could be facing the greatest threat ever to the future of America right now, and the Greatest Generation could be us. History will ultimately be our judge. On which side of the battle lines will you fall?

Yeah, I didn’t say I don’t support what the NRA does, I was a member of the NRA for 20 years and my statement about “not just signing the NRA forms” was a quote from the article written by by Paul Helinski. The only other time I mentioned the NRA was to say it is the members of the NRA who make changes.

And I sure as hell am not trying to create any divisions in the 2nd Amendment fight. I am trying to unify everyone that believes in their 2nd Amendment Rights. As far as your assumption that I haven’t invested my life in protecting your 2nd Amendment rights, you are sadly mistaken. I served my time. As far as an ego check? Your flippant answer to a request for help in making all of our voices heard in a unified manor shows me you think you and the NRA have all of the answers. If that was true we wouldn’t be having this discussion. I’ll look elsewhere for help and business.

    • Administrator April 23, 2013, 2:01 pm

The only unifying force is you. You can spread the word from NRA, NSSF, GOA, JPFO and a handful of other organizations that were around before you were probably born. We told people to not just use the NRA form so they see that it isn’t just the NRA out here rattling sabers. Paul is an endowment member of the NRA.

    ADMINISTRATOR.
    Howdy,
Somehow we, meaning your website Moderators and I, seem to have some misunderstanding on my gun and 2nd Amendment views. I say this because several of my posts were moderated. And as you know moderated means deleted here. That is ok. This is a private site and you have that right. But I am writing here in your blog not for others to see, but to make sure I get this to the people who write this type of blog. Please read this as I am looking for help.

I am a Libertarian I guess. I am of the mind that “Law-abiding, responsible citizens do not and should not need to ask anyone’s permission or approval to engage in a peaceful activity. Gun ownership, by itself, harms no other person and cannot morally justify criminal penalties.” I do not believe the Federal Government should have a horse in this race period. (The sentences in parentheses are straight from the Libertarian manifesto)

So why am I writing to you? I want to get a “movement” started, like the anti-gun crowd and other nutjobs have. I know we have the NRA the GOA etc. But in a way that is part of the problem. We have dozens of petitions to sign, we have blogs, websites and associations. But as a result of all of these different entities, our voice is not stronger, but rather watered down.

When a “Poll” can be floated out there that says 90% of Americans, “including gun owners” want expanded background checks, and it received very little opposition according to the media and is believed by those that actually want expanded background checks, if not an outright gun ban, I had enough. I mean seriously when the bills died and two polls that were taken around the same time showed 54% and 48% of the American people want expanded background checks, it is obviously the 90% Poll taken by The New York Post/NBC was tainted beyond belief, beyond reason.

So I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and you touched on a big part of the problem with your statement “don’t just use the NRA form letter pages.”. Most people are not even signing form letters. And while some so called pro-gun people actually don’t care what gets passed because they have horded ammo, magazines and guns in anticipation of enacted legislation and even made how-to YouTube videos standing beside anywhere from 300 to 600 30-round magazines and dozens of guns, tens of thousands of rounds, all for future sale, telling what to buy if you want to make a killing following the proposed legislation and are looking to gouge others if it happens. However most of us gun owners do care, but it just gets to the point, like many things in this country, that people get the idea there is nothing we can do to change things, so they don’t.

But I digress, I want to make a serious change in how we as a group act upon these assault on our liberties. I want us all to join together under one unified voice. But I do not know how to go about it, nor what it should look like. I do not have money, I do not have a website with a large viewership, and I do not have political clout. But I am adamant we need to band together and sooner than later is absolutely necessary! And as you and this website have made clear, the money behind the take-all-guns-out-of-the-hands-of-law-abiding-citizens movement is tremendous. And they are not above nasty tricks etc. The worst being, taking away our guns for the sake of the children. And calling tragedies like the Boston Bombing a terrorist act and tragedies like Sandy Hook, mass shootings. They are the same type of crime, and calling the “mass shootings” what they are, Acts of Terrorism is somehow not in the vocabulary of our media.

Many out there unfortunately feel that now that even the “universal background checks” legislation didn’t pass, that the threat is over. But just as you said this will not end. The whole threat to our 2nd Amendment freedom is just beginning and we need to stand up now and make it clear it is not the NRA, not the “arm twisting of representatives by deep pockets” that demand 2nd Amendment rights be left intact, but the citizens of the United States of America that demand so.

I am so frustrated, but at the same time so hopeful, because this is it. This is the time to join together as a unified voice and let Washington and the entire country know “we will not go quietly into the night”. If we remain a strong but splintered voice that is obviously just squeaking by as far as our goal of not having our 2nd Amendment rights continually eroded, we will have failed ourselves and failed our forefathers. Personally I see a million man march type of thing, or something even more presence oriented, just an overwhelming, undeniable, unified clear voice saying exactly what we believe.

I do admit I am not the most articulate guy on the planet, but I think my point is clear, and it is obvious I need help with this! But right now I guess I want to throw this at you and see what sticks. You have my email address (?)
    PEACE AND GUNS

    • Administrator April 22, 2013, 6:22 pm

By not supporting the NRA you are causing a division thinking that you will start something of your own. It is pure idiocy. Roll up your ego and support the people who have invested their lives in protecting your 2nd Amendment freedom.

  • Nate Wells April 17, 2013, 3:08 pm

Everyone needs to understand the end game: Being in possession of a weapon will make you a criminal. Period, end of story. And the truth of the matter is that most people, when asked the following question, will say Yes.

“Would you give up your guns so you did not have to go to prison?”

That, my friends, is the vehicle to the demise of the 2nd Amendment.

I read an article that, by the NYPD own estimates, there were somewhere between 1 and 2 million illegal weapons in the hands of criminals in New York city alone.

Enough weapons to keep guns in the hands of criminals, in essence, forever. How to solve that problem? There really isn’t anyway to solve it…but the government would have you believe, (and sadly, many people do), that the best first step is for nobody to have guns. The theory is that if you and i have no guns, then criminals cannot steal them. Well, that is true. The other truth is that criminals don’t NEED to steal our guns. There are enough guns out there already in the underground. Pandora’s box is wide open. The bell has been rung.

So, step one: Controls over when and where you are allowed to have a gun in your possession.
Step two: Controls over various types of guns and accessories
    Step three: Background checks
    Step four: Registration
    Step five: Confiscation
Step six: You have a gun, you are now a criminal, subject to imprisonment.

Six steps to the end of the 2nd Amendment. And, if you haven’t been paying attention, steps one and two are are in motion.

Just look at the states and various restrictions about open carry and concealed carry, how and when you can carry your gun in a vehicle, how you can (or cannot) take a gun across a state line. Should you be allowed to take your gun out of your home? Everyone one of those is a restriction, the cumulative effect of which will be part of the noose around the neck of the 2nd Amendment.

It has been a slow erosion of gun rights for decades.

When you have nothing to defend yourself with, then you are helpless. Helpless for the government to do anything to you, and with you, that they will.

We are at a pivotal point in history, people…do not retreat into the shadows…the wolves are at the gates, and we must light the torches of Liberty and beat them back.

  • Keith Crabbs April 10, 2013, 3:55 pm

This is merely another futile attempt by the wanton politicians to suppress our rights to live and enjoy life. Anyone who believes that this clown Adam Lanza was not an agent of the government is merely deprived of knowledge and common sense. Why would he kill mom ‘sole supporter’ , and then target children? Doesn’t even seem believable. I personally had a trial last year where i was attacked by a convicted felon with a stolen handgun. This man was a former businsess associate years 10 years prior to this altercation we had cut ties completely at least eight years before the attack. He was high on concaine…extremely high on cocaine nearly 16% in his system. He brought his son and daughter 8 years and 14 mos. for the attack, along with two carloads of his pals. I am an nra member and concealed handgun license holder. I was returning with my girlfriend after a day at the emergency room for her.

We have this man show up and spring from his vehicle retrieve his pistol and begin his attack we both were armed exchanged shots…him 17 me 7 shots…he didn’t make it. I was indidcted by an overzealous prosecutor attempting to make right the wrongs of one of their informants. By manufacturing evidence using an illiterate man with a signed statement with a signature that he couldn’t read for the jury. I went thru a trial, bond revocation, several jailhouse attacks one cousin of deceased in jail for three murder charges at the time i was attacked. I told some jail house staff that they were cowards and they decided to prove it by pummeling while i was handcuffed in the courtroom for the news media to view and the family of the informant. I have two herniated discs and three bulging from the attacks 32 stitches and a scar i look at everyday. needless to say i was found not guilty by a jury of twelve peers who voted unanimously, for what i have stated is still the truth.

Our government will use whatever underhanded dispicable tactics they need to employ to make the undereducated, lacking insight Obama voters march to their drumbeat.

Let’s not forget we need to start another world war soon to get this new world order implemented come on folks give us your guns and your freedoms and you can count on us we will take care of you……….bull$4it til you swallow it we will find willing folks to do the dirty work of adam lanza and the colorado theater shooter to evoke terror among the ranks. Everyone should exercise their second amendment right and arm themselves and see how the level of crime changes then. We need to as a whole society show the government that they are interfering with our civil rights and we don’t need them for a damn thing.

Fast and furious we seem to have forgotten…we cannot let that be forgotten these government officials are no more than illegal arms traffickers.

stand and fight folks if not we might have to be the oppressed they wish to have.

  • alec moffat April 9, 2013, 5:56 pm

I am so completely disgusted with Bam Bam’s attempt to politicize the tragedy of Sandy Hook, and turn it into the “base” for his current anti-gun gambit! What kind of person would do all that he could to block the healing of the folks in Sandy Hook? Now he trys to use them as unwitting puppets. Can’t they just be left alone so that they can find closure and peace?

Has our POS POTUS no sense of compassion at all! This flaw in his character continues to resurface, over and over again. Today there was a tragedy in Texas. Leave it alone dems. It did not involve a gun, but God help you if you show only a token of support for those people.

Legislation is NOT “Law”, it is corporate policy. ALL cities which are “incorprated” are a part of the “Federal”, that should read Fuedal, corporation since 1870. New Hampshire has tabled legislation which would remove the corporate status of the federal “government” and return it to the people, it was tabled because the ramifications are extensive. The “government” CAN NEVER legislate TO the people, FACT, they can ONLY legislate relating to commercial regulation, FACT. Again, LEGISLATION IS NOT LAW!!!!! It is “color of law” and the enforcement is unlawful under 18 USC 241, 242. How many people study the actual truth in this country. I have trie to educate as many as I can. But I seem to be failing miserably? We do not NEED a license or permit for something we already HAVE and Possess as a Natural Right, so then said license or permit would be meaningless, There are many court decisions which state that very fact.

My father came here legally from Poland through Ellis Island after WWII, after spending part of his life in a Nazi concentration camp, after his father and brother were rounded up and assassinated for who they were, by the Nazi’s. As a kid in the ’60’s, I used to watch my father by clothing, shoes and stuff to send back to his sister and her children still trapped in communist Poland, and he would take them outside and scuff and dirty them up before sending them there so that they would not be confiscated. My father came here legally for freedom, and died a free man. He is probably rolling in his grave at what has happened to our nation, the forfeiture and confiscation of freedom by corrupt politicians sworn to uphold our constitution, committing treason by deliberately destroying or running around our constitution. The intent of Obama and many politicians on both sides of the aisle is “one world government”, hence the G8 and G20 summits, complete destruction of our nation. Some nations such as England and Australia have already made their moves towards one world government, dictatorship, by banning and confiscating their firearms, and THE ONLY thing stopping it now, is a well armed American populous. We ARE the only thing stopping them in their tracks, and it is Obama’s job to disarm us and get us out of the way. What these politicians fail to understand, is that the ONLY thing keeping them alive, the ONLY reason that they hold their positions, is the very constitution that the treasonous pieces of garbage are intentionally destroying. They need to understand that without a constitution to protect them, they ARE fair game. I think that some sense that, giving them more reason and fuel to disarm us…fear for their very own existence, or not. Our government was founded by some extremely intelligent men, the same men that crafted our constitution. It has been hijacked by some very bad, very evil politicians that mean our country harm and destruction. There is no one in this nation that is exempt from being charge, tried, convicted, sentence carried out for committing treason. Not our president, vice-president, member of Congress. No one that commits treason is exempt from being punished for it, constitutionally, and I live and die by and for our constitution. I am a proud American.

Your second amendment rights have already been compromised. Do you see an amendment amending the second amendment allowing the infringements? They will take us out one at a time and you will do nothing. A few months ago I was handcuffed tazed and beaten for a half an hour in my yard with friends and family present. They made up many charges, one assault on A police officer which is a felony. They told me they were going get me fired from my job, that they were going to have sex with me. While face down handcuffed they tazed me on my face on my back the bashed me in the head with an ar15 tried to kick me in the balls, and beat me with a baton. I was never read my rights or even told i was under arrest or told what the charges were. After a crooked preliminary hearing showing me what my trial would look they offered to drop charges with the stipulation that I can’t sue or talk about it to anyone. Where were all of you? The prosecutor did say they will be back and that they will get it right next time.

The current “Shortage” of Guns/Ammunition DOES indicate Law Abiding Citizens’ fear of Restriction/Confiscation and/or loss of 2nd Amendment Rights however, I ALSO suspect that the Firearms/Ammunition Manufactures are guilty of RESTRICTING delivery of said Items for the Greedy, Sole purpose of “Driving Up PRICES and Maintaining them at these INFLATED Levels”! Does NOT give me a ‘warm & fuzzy’ feeling about OUR Manufacturers’. Hopefully the Common US People will wake up and Vote appropriately (Obamma? Pelosi? etc!). I IMPLORE the Reporters, Newspapers, Magazines, Media to start Publishing ‘Criminal Results’ of Areas that have Highly Restrictive Gun Rights (AS opposed to Areas with Encouraged Law Abiding Citizens’ Gun Rights)! Remember; IMPEACHMENT can be a beautiful word – VOTE America, Your Freedom may be Wanig!

In doing a lot of digging on line and trying to get to the real truth about the Sandy Hook School shootings I’ve run across some very interesting things that do not make any sense. I took the list of names of all of the children and two teachers and went to a close friend who is a lawyer. He does a lot of specialty work in skip tracing and identifying people. He’s very good at what he does and I wanted to get his input. So he did a search on the Social Security website’s Master Death index (You have to sign up now and pay some fee , not like it used to be.) for the names of everyone from CT who died on that day. He could not find one single name in the list of anyone from CT who had passed away at all? So he expanded his search to include both NH and MA. Still nothing even for the months of December 2012 and January 2013. Still being persistent he tried a program that law firms used called Lexis-Nexis which is some kind of legal records search software. Not one single designation of anyone from CT was listed. We sat and talked about this for some time that evening. Later on the next day he called me and let me know his account to both the Social Security Death index and his Lexis-Nexis programs were shut down and he could not get back in to them. He said he called the software company and identified his account and wanted to know why he could not gain access. they told it was a technical issue and should be fixed in a day or so. Not being content with that answer he called a fellow lawyer and asked him if he had any issues with Lexis-Nexis the other lawyer said let me check. He came back and said nope no problems at all.
Since then he has heard unusual clicks and noise on his phone lines. Now he feels like he may have tried to open Pandora’s Box so to speak.
I’ve written to all of my elected officials repeatedly and all i get are form letters back. They don’t seem to care because they are part of the “Elite” group now. They may say they are on the our side but I no longer believe it.
Just last week President Obama agreed to send “Secret Service” agents to Colorado to “Assist” in removing Sheriffs who reuse to go against the 2nd amendment. Looking up their “Authorized” duty they have 3 divisions, Presidential and Dignitary Plain close security, Plain close Division that used to answer to the Treasury Dept but now are part of DHS, and the uniformed officers who guard federal buildings and the White House. There power is limited but I didnt see anywhere that the President can do with them just with what he wants. He should have used the U.S. Marshall’s office as part of the U.S. Dpt of Justice. But he does not control them! What Obama is doing is exactly what Hitler did with the Nazi Party “Brown Shirts”. He’s using the Secret Service to do the bidding of the Gestapo now. It’s only going to get worse. I refuse to abide by any rule of law that supersedes the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution.
It’s going to get worse and those in power feel we have no say so. Personally I think they have something planned. I expect them to say that all of the banks in the entire country will be closing early on a Friday to make adjustments for the changes in the Federal Reserve system. Once they do that they will not open on Monday.
That’s when you know Martial Law will be enacted. No ATM’s will work, no ATM cards will work and Stores will not be able to process transactions. This is just the beginning of mass control.
    God Bless us all.

It wasn’t my fault Adolf. We took all the guns, but they used pitchforks and knifes to kill a lot of our Elite as the hit the ground.Next time we will have to confiscate every sharp implement and shutdown their phones so they can’t communicate.A lesson in Hitler’s History.

I myself feel very strongly that the great government had something to do in all the mass shootings. Nothing was said about gun laws untill the Conn. Shooting. Could the government hooked them on a drug… brainwash them? Anyone in the service has been experimented on !!!! How about the FAST &FURIOUS operations they orgastrated ? Facebook ….. don’t trust it. Government watches activity on it closely !!! One more thing. They talk about the NRA as if it’s a foreign country or something? Its Americans paying then to represent..protect us against THE government !

Never give up FREEDOM–this is the peoples country–NOT the governments.

  • mpk April 8, 2013, 10:42 am

Our current government appears set to disarm our nation through the NATO arms treaty and other processes which may or may not be against the US Constitution. In the event we are ordered to give up our firearms:
I have researched many of the countries which disarmed their citizens and have concerns for our country.
    – Several amnesty periods were given to turn in firearms. Many citizens turned their firearms and ammunition with no resistance. They did not want to face the government and authorities for fear of injury or loss of life to their family and themselves.
    – When the remaining citizens were to be disarmed it was not an all out war. There really wasn’t a mass movement of military personnel or similar challenging citizens – in other words, no civil war broke out.
    – So how did they retrieve the firearms from all the legal owners?
    – Let’s put yourself in this position. You know the government is coming to take your firearms. Most if not all your firearms have been registered. For us in the US, many have been legally registered through an FFL or other process leading the authorities to arrive at your home or other location with an inventory of what to remove. You are at home with your family and your home is surrounded by a very large team or personnel in full armament stating they have an order to remove your firearms. If you fight you will be disposed of and any collateral damage: your family, pets and property are waived from their responsibility. You won’t have the ability to resist peacefully. Also, if you cannot present your firearms for whatever the excuse, most citizens were detained until they presented the firearms. It wasn’t a very good situation. I have my thoughts about Homeland security enforcing this policy if it becomes a reality. Please keep in mind DHS is hoarding ammunition without satisfactory reasons – leading many to feel their is a bigger picture or conspiracy taking place.
    – So what do we do? Please keep the bravado and pride out of this – we don’t need the start shooting and ask questions later replies. I really don’t want my wife and children injured/killed as well as myself.

  • luke klondike April 8, 2013, 10:34 am

Canada tried national gun registration. That country has only 40 million people, (roughly the population of California). The Canadian government, after ten years or so, gave up completely on gun registration. It got more expensive than it was worth. The Canadian law became un-enforceable. . . .just like it will be un-enforceable in the United States. (I sure hope LEO officers have more common sense than law-makers).

Even though un-enforceable, a bigger problem is going to be people in your life ratting you out, (ex-wife, kid, fellow worker, etc.), when you haven’t registered your guns. We’re now at a place in our history where gun control laws will be the weapon of choice for anyone who wishes to ruin your life…..just like Joe McCarthy in the 50’s who everyone’s forgotten: gun owners are about to become the new ‘commies’ in the United States. And, the UN is gonna’ love it. Only this time, the witch hunters are funded and supported by a VERY biased media. (Guns American: Please use this comment as you see fit. I don’t think people realize how much American gun owners are being villainized.)

So, even if the law is un-enforceable, there are far more idiots in the United States who are more than willing to make a felon out of you than there were in Canada. The Connecticut governer is one of those, i.e. register your 10+ mags or become a felon.

I fear the worst from an administration who now must attempt to make opponents believe that they actually like ‘some’ gun owners. Kinda’ like Hitler posing cordially with Hebrew children before tearing them from their parents. That might be extreme, but our government is becoming just as evil.

2nd Amendment’s there so we can protect ourselves from the govt.,as we have the right keep & bear arms-and it shall not be infringed upon. Obama has studied the socialist takeover manual all his life, was never down & out so who supported him to live the good life all those questionable school year’s?No job but living well-most of his friends were wealthy muslim’s so we should be very weary of him. Back to the subject-take the Brady Law-ban assult weapon’s what?,he & Regan were shot via 22 revolver so what did an AR/AK weapon have to do with that? NOTHING! Bloomberg-Obama are pushing the panic reaction frenzy to push their agenda. I think it all the anti gun people should post in their yard on their house door & put a bumper sticker on all their vehicles that states-“I’m Unarmed & Dont Own Any Guns”. Guess what they will not – why because they know the criminals will be their upcoming visitors. If theyre going to talk the talk then they better walk the walk! What ya think? AL

This is an excellent article. The gun grabbers in our government need no background check as to their credentials. They are blatant in their disregard and contempt of The Bill of Rights, remember them my fellow American gun owners of all political persuasion, and vote them out. Listen and watch the video of Ted Cruz as he defends the 2nd amendment challenging Dianne Feinstein and hear Dick Durbin’s comment as he chimes in on her behalf. “These (Bill of) Rights are not absolute.” Can’t get much more Commie then that. So listen up our Illinois patriots, next time he runs for office save that video and give it to a pro gun candidate and use it against that treasonous bastard.

Questions about this and that… something to ponder.
    1. I haven’t been able to find out how it ended up for sure, but when New York defined family it left out my son’s wife. If I wanted to give her a gun for her safety, it would have to go through a dealer. Status?
    2. If a Boy Scout camp, school ROTC, or any other organization has a dozen .22 rifles in its armory for use at that camp, who (individual) owns them? Is he/she in violation by not keeping them close? If they are considered to belong (on paper) to the camp ranger, what happens when the ranger no longer works there?
    3. If I loan a gun to someone prior to the transfer law changing, he/she keeps it for a couple of years and returns it after the law changes… do I have to get a background check?

    Gosh, congress… leave us alone!

I was going to join the NRA,but where were they when my state of Maryland and our pathetic governer omalley(lower case spelling for a lower class man) did what they wanted? They banned so called assult weapons(semi automatic weapons) and so called high capasity clips(they are magizines)! I cant get my concealled carry permit unless I provide the state police with a so called “just reason” which is translated to 3 police reports on someone trying to take my life!!!!! WTF! This has been proven in Maryland supreme district court to be unconstitional! All I can do is vote against the governer, which I did the first time! I know as a Marylander how it feels to be in a police state, full of tyrants, and am now concidered a potential crimial! This sucks so bad! I hope my fellow Americans do not feel the pain that I have experienced! Our state song says in one of the many great lines…The depots heal is upon thy shore Maryland,My Maryland!!!!! God please help us! B.STEVEN SMYTH American by birth!

I was a FFL dealer for 30 years and when I closed our my record with 3 different gunshops. All of my 4473’s were turned in to the AFT. I was told by atf that the records were going to be sent to Landover MD and microfilmed back then. Obviously today they are most likely scanned and placed into a national gun registration database. Therefore what I am trying to get across is that if you have purchased your firearms from a licensed FFL dealer since 1968 YOUR FIREARM IS REGISTERED! if that dealer has lost, surrendered, gone out of business or had a change of ownership your firearm records are in the NATIONAL DATABASE! I am not saying this to run ATF into the ground as they are just following the regulations set by the 1968 Gun control Act. ATF is also credited in keeping Dealers on task and solving many domestic and foreign threats and crimes.

Think About It. Then Pass It On, PLEASE!
According to the left wing zealots, we’re not supposed to judge all Muslims by the acts of a few “crazies”, but the acts of a few American “crazies” is enough to judge all Americans who own guns!

It seems an odd coincidence that we have had a number of mass murders shortly after Obama got elected the first time, I’m begining to believe that maybe, just maybe this whole administration has had something to do with motivating these people into doing these killings just to scare the people into the anti-gun action.

Unfortunately, you, OP are part of the problem here. I agree with everything you said until the last paragraph, when you said, “I told everyone…Vote for Ron Paul or don’t vote at all.” This is where you and others like you have failed to watch and learn from History. Ron Paul never stood a snowball’s chance in Hell of being elected last November. I would certainly have liked him better than either of our choices in the end, but he wasn’t going to get in period. So, if you and others like you stood by and failed to vote, you became part of the 38% of Americans who failed to do their part. If you voted for a write in, you simply pulled votes from the lesser of two evils and allowed the most evil one to be elected. Part of the responsibility of voting in a two party system is to make choices that actually can be chosen. The Primary Election is where you need to vote your personal choice, in the hopes of getting new blood elected later. Too many people wasted their votes in the last two Presidential Elections, and allowed this Dictator to be “elected.”

Thank you for writing that great article, I have been following the gun debate since 1982 and Senator Orin Hatch was the protector at that time and still is today. As we watch these people try and convince everyone is a bad guy with an assault rifle ( I hate those two words) and they don’t have any idea what they are talking about. I have called my Senators and Representatives E-Mailed them written them 50 letters faxed them articles such as yours from other publications. As you have said, they have an agenda and they will lie, cheat, kill to get this done. One Senator of mine is a Democrat and he gets 2 or 3 faxes a day from me. Won’t change his mind but I keep him busy.

Excellent article and very well written. They want universal back ground checks for one thing- to get a list of every single firearm every citizen owns in this country. There are simly too many armed citizens to do a “gun swoop”. They are going to start with nickel and dime taxes. By the time mmy kids inherit my guns, they wont be able to afford em. Ohh, then you have a dangerous firem, you need liability insurance. Dont have it- felony. Have an un registered firearm- felony. Oh you got rid of them, and didnt tell us- felony. They are going to squeeze em out of you finicially.

Do we wait till they have stripped away all our rights and our guns or do should we concider them tyrannts now beforew they get to take this much further.

For me I will call those who wish to erode our rights to free speech and to infringe on our rights to bear arms tyrants.

  • steve April 5, 2013, 7:26 pm

I would add one thing to the comments and article: getting copies of a driver’s license is not sufficient to show proof of ownership. Best way to handle sales between individuals as of this writing is to write up a simple bill of sale that includes a drivers license number, have both parties sign it along with a witness. If the gun is ever traced to you (supposing that it is used in a crime) you will need proof of transfer (the bill of sale) or a police report listing the serial number. The BATFE website has an exemplar of what it will legally accept and it’s easy enough to type up or download.

Also, the 4473 required by law at this time for all retail sales is or requires a thorough background check at the time of purchase. The only exception in state law is exclusion based on a concealed carry permit on the state or in reciprocation. Just saying…unless state law requires registration, we don’t need any other laws governing firearms purchases.

Look the tragedy at Sandy Hook was real and terrible. Am I saddened for the families? Yes. I feel for them and the loss of their child, but that does not automatically mean we should all lose our right to own firearms. If they were killed in an auto accident, plane crash or on a school bus heading to a ball game, it would be tragic and a sorry situation, but no one would be out their asking to ban Cars, Planes or School Bus’s. That would be stupid, Right? Most would think so, but I see the situation almost the same. The NUT that walked into that school is the one that caused the deaths, he caused the sorrow and the loss for those parents….Not the guns he used, or the ” High Capacity Magazines” or Assault weapons. That is just dumb, and a total lie. Anyone hell bent to kill someone will generally do it, no matter if they have to use a car, baseball bat, gun or their feet.
Are you more likely to get shot in a large downtown district like Chicago or New York then say Warsaw Indiana, population 653? Of course! It something so simple most would think it common sense. We have the ability to look a crime in a larger perspective. There are about 30 areas that can be broken down into district or neighbor hood, in the USA that crime is most prevalent. These are all intercity areas that have a large presents of young black persons. It’s these 30 so area that make the most use of firearm related deaths, robbery, assault, rape and theft. Basically the rest of our country is fine, of-course we the occasional problems, but generally the worst crimes are restricted to these 30 so areas. If we can locate the problems, the main areas that have the largest percentage of hard crime, then why can’t we do something about it as a nation. Why don’t we have a task force that spends it energy combating these high crime areas? We know where they are, we know mostly who is doing the crime, and we have the resources to do it. So what’s the problem? If, you are really, really determined to fight crime, and want to save lives, why not start with these known areas and work from there to contain the problem?? Well if that was really the reason, you would, Right? But, that’s not what they want, they want to dis-arm America. But they use these excuses to do it. We want to save the children, save the women, drivers, whatever. They don’t really care about anyone, just their agenda to get the firearms out of the homes across America. Why? Why do they want you and me to not have a means of protecting ourselves? What are they worried about? It’s certainly not crime. It’s also not you and me. It can’t be the Children, the innocent by stander, no. It must be to make us week. To un-arm us so they can do as they please, later on sometime in the future. Basically a takeover of the government, or a complete takeover of the government, as we all know they pull most string now. Could we one day be in the same position as the North Korean’s? No firearms? No food? No rights? Well without the right to keep and bear arms, without the right to purchase and keep ammunition, without the right to keep and use firearms, without the right to read and write what we want, we cannot be so sure we will. Is this just the first few steps to the end of our way of life? The original writers of the constitution and bill of rights, thought about these very things. They made rules and rights to keep this from happening all over again. This is the reason most early settlers left their homeland for America. They want to be free, to practice the religion as they saw fit. To have the right to vote for these government representatives, To have the right to Live where they wished. To reasonable search and securer. To have the right to say what they wanted, to reasonable taxation. To have a free press, and to own the firearms they wanted for protection, from enemies both near and far.
The facts about guns is also a sore spot to me. The media continues to use these over inflated figures concerning gun deaths, weapon usages, amount of people harmed by guns and the amount of people helped or saved by a gun. For a media that hangs there hat on being impartial, there sure seems to be a lot of news men and women that have made up their mind about gun control and report with that slant in mind. No impartiality there. Really, the media is a front for the many organization out there and their views and agendas. They simply say what they are told to say about the event, based on the organizations view. This is not news, its suppression and coercion. Might as well be in China or North Korea. Remember the huge crowds protesting America before the attack, they were the same as our press, they simply repeated what they were told to say, sick when you think about it.
The Government is bought…like Bloomberg, the rich and super rich can push their agenda on the American public, like it or not. The media, which is owned and controlled by these same rich people, simple report on the items they are told to report on and give the slant the rich support. You cannot get elected without a rich supporter, who would think you would need a 2 million dollar budget to elected for a governors job that pays less than 180,000.00 a year? Who would think you need 100 million for a senate job that pays less than 350,000.00 a year? For president a job that pays less then 400K a year, you need over 500 million to even compete. What’s wrong here? How did we get to a place in politics where only the super rich determine who gets elected, and what policy we follow? Look at the budget they are working on now….They can’t get the 1% of Americans, the 1 % of the richest Americans to take a 5-10% tax rate increase. They don’t even feel that low rate increase….it’s not even a nice weekend trip to them, but we can’t get them to ante up and help pay their share of the tax burden…Up, it’s not a problem for the little man to pay more, much more. An amount that greatly impacts there way of life. hey I don’t mind paying my tax’s, I just want everyone to do the same, and at the same fair percentage. These are the same people that get all the big tax breaks for their companies, and every other financial undertaking, that on real small business man gets. So they have the funds to pay, but get all the breaks, while those that do not make that much pay way more percentage wise then they ever will. Great…No one will ever be able to climb the ladder with this system in place. Which…is exactly what they what. They don’t want anyone else to break into their world and mess things up. Look I’m a simple, normal, lower middle class person that has no chance in hell of moving up. I’m more worried about saving put them moving forward, as it gets harder and harder to maintain the ground I have let alone think about moving up. My wages have been basically flat since 1989, while every other expense has gone up, Cars, Fuel, food, Homes, Insurance, health Insurance, taxes and every other payment I have to make to survive in this world. I have health insurance, which cost about 12,000 a year for the family, but every time someone gets sick, it covers nothing. Oh, it’s great for major expenses, but the everyday problems are never covered, or the deductable is so much that you have to exceed that first, big help. Prescriptions are the same, not much covered and always expensive. Go Figure, we have insurance, but generally tell them we don’t so we can get the medicine cheaper. Yes we have insurance, not have to deny that to get the same drugs filled much cheaper than if we went through the insurance?? What a system???
All of this is bad enough, you can see we don’t have a lot of deposable income left over. Now they want to take what little entertainment I get from shooting away. Bad enough that it now takes much more to practice shooting, but a gun or accessory, that isn’t enough, they want to take them away and then what? i can wait for the police to take care of me? Right in a time when they are constantly being cut in funding, and every time I read the paper or watch TV I see more Fire Fighter, police or EMT’s being cut because the city’s don’t have the money. But we can build a house for a low income person and give it to them…or we can give inter-city jobs to poor black kids, so they have something to do in the summer. really, get a real job, one that requires you to do something, like the rest of us. I started working at 7, as a grocery store bagger, stocker in our small town. That last till I was 10, then I worked for a farmer for a year, then I mowed lawns, up to 34 at one time for money, while also working for the grocery, or a local furniture store doing deliveries. This lasted all the way thru high school. I always had at least one job, from 7 on. Yes I worked, and I did want they wanted, and no it was not always fun. No one had to give me a job simple to keep me off the street so I wouldn’t kill someone, rob them of vandalize things. Those are simply punks, and low life’s, not young people that want to work. But to say different is racist, so they say. I’m not a racist, just a realist, get over it.
I’m sorry, I don’t have any answers. this country is really messed up, yes I served in the Armed forces, and I love this country, but that doesn’t stop the fact that we have some really important issues’ to overcome. I can’t settle anything, the politicians don’t seem to want to go to work and help fix anything, hell they don’t even seem to want to go to work, literally..as they miss more days at work then they actually show up. You can tax me, make me pay more for everything we use, and screw up this country more than I ever thought possible…I cannot stop any of that, but what I can do is stand tall on the gun issue. I will not give anyone my weapons, ammunition or accessories for them. You can pass any law you wish, and I’m sure you will, but all I can say is COME AND TAKE THEM….

    • Richard B April 7, 2013, 9:32 pm

Do not resist as they will kill you and what purpose would that serve? It is better to figure out how to protect you guns from confiscation. There are many books and articles that can give ideas on how to do this, don’t lose your life over guns as they could care less and you are not going to defeat them. I’m also a vet with disabilities and I have made my plans on what I will do, but I can’t broadcast that here.

Nah, the – “Bundy Protocol” w/BLM was the precedence and is all that will prevent over reach no matter what laws they pass or units they send. Out of over 20+ million retired vets and those millions still in(+their knowledge) and the 100+ million gun owners with

I see now, just one sided. Im an NRA life member buddy, but im also an attorney who has been on both sides of the judicial system. I also have a big safe where I keep plenty of firepower. UBC is NOT registration. If you think that way then you’ve never bought a gun legally from an FFL. FFL’s are forbidden from keeping a data base on who buys what. They keep 4473’s just in case your legally purchased guns shows up in a crime scene. Do you know what illegal firearms trafficking is?? It is when legally purchased guns, make their way (divert) to the illegal side. UBC will help to find out who the traffickers are. It makes TOTAL sense. Why do you want to keep the other members of the forum illiterate? Maybe you’re hiding something? As one who understand criminal law, I tell you UBC is the only part of all this legislative process that makes sense.
PS. Bloomberg, New York, Connecticut and Maryland can KMA!!!

        • IndyMac April 8, 2013, 12:33 pm

Joe, that is the way background checks work now as i worked in a gun shop for years selling guns. The “new” Universal Background Check will incorporate new issues that will force a registration of sorts by making gun owners transfer their guns even to their own sons/daughters or any family members. Now you say it will be just like any 4473 and will be kept in the privacy of the Gun Shop. Then why has the BATF been caught so many times scanning 4473’s in their “checks”. Why did Ashcroft have to force the FBI to destroy the 4473’s and other records they had for years that was supposed to be destroyed after 90 days. As all 4473’s have to be turned over to them after a Gun Shop permanently closes.

There are other written laws being put into the UBC on “loaning” a gun without a permission slip/transfer? I would suggest yo talk to a NRA agent about the UBC. It’s not the sly little check that is innocent!

I will not give up my guns. They protect my life in war and will continue to protect my family’s lives regardless of what “Law’s” are passed. I am a man of honor and tradition. I am proud to have the same blood beating in my heart as our forefathers who founded this great country. I will be turned into a common criminal. I used to have respect for the offices of those officials who were elected for the people, and by the people. It is apparent to me that they are not willing to take the same oath themselves that they make many young men take each day; “to support and defend the constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic”.
This is your final warning! Do not put yourself in the position of being a domestic enemy. There are men of honor who will defend the constitution with the very same lives they have dedicated to the protection and service of the American People. Do not think that you can take rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights from the people through creative interpretation by your “Servants”. Don’t think you will get away with it, not for one second. Eyes are watching. “Do not let the hearts of evil men and the horrific tragedies they cause become a device that darkens the hearts of angels!” just remember “angels walk among us” and they make the most powerful demons.

Commenting on all this is fine if we didn’t have to give ‘E-MAIL’ address. Are you not thinking this is not being ‘censored’ by our government? All of the internet stuff and mobile phone stuff is concerned by someone.

The problem with our society is that we interpret information for our best interest instead of believing what the point was when it was written. The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution is just one example and is very clear as to what it means and why it was put into the Constitution. Many people gave their lives for the ‘CONSTITUTION’. We as a Nation, that includes what our Government was founded on, are to uphold it as the highest Bylaws the United States was founded on. The Constitution did not state, ‘Change things to best suit your needs in the Future as you see fit’ as a disclaimer at the bottom. Our Government is to defend the Constriction, not change it at will they see fit.

I know things change and things might need to be changed, but the US citizen has the right to be part of the change and have a say in it. Majority vote should be the reason to change something, not just the opinion of just a few that are biased to making the change. If there was not crime, the US citizen would still need a gun for a means of putting food on the table since a lot of people still do. Those who don’t do that but still want to own a gun for pleasure should have the right to do so. The 2nd Amendment gives the US citizen the right for that type of owner ship. The 2nd Amendment was part of the Constitution even though there was violence when it was being put together. There are a lot of other forms of mass destruction, Kansas City bombing and Hitler of Germany just to name a few, that are a lot more deadly than guns.

How does the unarmed citizen defend themselves when that are not allowed to possess a gun but the attacker (Criminal) illegally possesses one. Bringing a knife to a gun fight is a no win situation for an unarmed citizen. Wild animals do not follow the rules when they are to run close enough to a citizen to kill with a non-gun apparatus. Some type of prey is just too big and mean to subdue without a non-gun apparatus.

  • Dave Bolin April 5, 2013, 12:13 pm

In February of 1933 a devastating fire in the parliament building of the German Republic, the Reichstag, was used by the Nazi Party and it’s sycophants in the German media to stampede the people of that nation into electing the most bloodthirsty and tyrannical government in modern history into power. While the origin of the fire still remains clouded (set by Communists or the Nazis themselves, no one really knows), its effect is clear; an emotional response to a major national event often leads to very poor decision making because of exploitation by unscrupulous politicians. While there is no doubt about the perpetrator of the Sandy Hook School massacre, it is being used just like the Reichstag fire as a tool to drive a shocked and generally ignorant populace into approving bad laws propounded by unscrupulous politicians. This strategy is nothing new; in 2003 the Bush administration used America’s horror and anger over the 9/11 attacks to dupe the citizenry into accepting an unjustified and eventually unsatisfactory incursion into Iraq. That the Obama regime would use similar tactics in an attempt to ram unconstitutional firearms restrictions into law should surprise nobody (at least nobody who pays attention). While the ordinary American probably has no more idea of what the Reichstag fire was than he or she has of the difference between a “clip” and a “magazine”, they generally dislike being swindled and that is what is happening to them. I think we of the Firearms Community have a responsibility to make them aware of this.

If not just professionals, then those used with proven mind control that I’ve studied at length. All this transpiring at the time of the UN resolution of the small arms treaty that the US did approve of but still needs to be voted on. This can/will affect the 2nd Amendment. Our biggest fear “is” the Universal Background Check. It “is” a registration and should not be approved. To me it would be an “Act of War”!

Will someone please explain to me how universal background checks lead to a national mandatory gun registration system.

    • Administrator April 5, 2013, 12:09 pm

Because within 10-20 years most guns, especially self defense guns, change hands. Within that turnover span every gun would be subject to a completed form 4473 and “background check.” The government is already scanning every 4473 into an OCR system, and that form is generally filled out with a social security number, so your address will travel with the gun as you move and update your IRS info. Within no more than a generation, all guns, not just new ones, will be forced into a solid link with an owner and an address. Do we seem alarmist to you now?

      • Capt. Bob April 5, 2013, 5:10 pm

Information (details) on the gun are not transmitted to the BATF. The only info given over the phone to the NICS is Name, address, height, weight, race, DOB, place of birth, State of residence, verification if a U.S. Citizen and TYPE of gun (handgun, long gun or other).
Your Social Security number is optional (don’t give it).
The details of the gun (make, model, sn, type, and caliber) are written on page 3 but the NICS does not get that. Only if there is a request to see a record for criminal invenstigational purposes or if the dealer goes out of business does the government get the details. BUT, that’s their plan because in 10 or 20 years or so AFTER the dealers have been accumulating these records the f***ing politicians will pass ANOTHER law saying the dealers have to turn in the records. The key here is we have to eliminate page 3 of the 4473 form where the details are kept. Press the politicians. If they really don;t want gun registration WHY dothey need the detsils on the gun? The type and caliber have nothing to do with the person buying it.

        • Administrator April 5, 2013, 5:28 pm

All 4473 forms are now eventually scanned into the computers. It isn’t like it used to be where the forms were just thrown away. Most big dealers are scanning the forms right into their software.

          • steve April 5, 2013, 7:35 pm

I work for a company that has very few rivals in the numbers of guns it sells nationwide and we do not scan them in; we just contact NICS via computer and file the hard copies–in which case the Feds don’t even know which guns you buy unless they pull the hardcopy. But many are having customers type the info directly into the computer, in which case it is in a database. It is my understanding you can request a hardcopy instead. But it looks like it might be heading that way and that’s the equivalent of ‘registration’.

          • IndyMac April 8, 2013, 1:03 pm

Administrator, 4473’s are not thrown away but are required to be kept by the gun shop. If the gun shop closes, they are to be turned over to the BATF. I worked at a very large gun shop for years and they were required to keep them! The BATF or whoever has control of them afterwards are required to destroy them after 90 days, but the FBI has been caught keeping them for years. When Ashcroft was appointed by Bush, he told the FBI to destroy the records they were holding illegally.

      • IndyMac April 8, 2013, 11:59 am

Yep, just like Germany in the 1930’s only they are planning on making it rougher for even the “loaning” of a firearm to friends for use for hunting, target practice. With the threat of a mandatory 15 year prison sentence. Hmmm. But no mandatory sentence for crimes committed with firearms… seems lopsided don’t you think. It’s still about disarming the populace. It’s not about Sandy Hook, Columbine, Aurora, etc. If you want to see how well extreme gun laws are affective look at the murder capital of the USA, which has the highest murder rate, Chicago, IL. They have the most stringent gun laws in the nation and, well statistic show they don’t work. Just leaves people victims! Enough said on that!!!

  • spyro April 5, 2013, 11:39 am

You all argue about gun control and gun violence, let’s cut the entourage of politicans in half and let them pay for their own security. This will mean that our politicians wil have to learn to fend for themselves. So they can face the consequences of their actions without protection at taxpayer expense. Not going to happen because a state where individual liberties matter isn’t in city hall’s best interest.

  • fidlestyx April 5, 2013, 11:17 am

As a veteran of the Vietnam era, and various combat endeavors for this country, I just can’t see how my government can be spouting all the rhetoric about “guns” being the culprit of all the violence now present in our society. As wise men/women have said….”guns don’t kill people, people do”. I’ve willingly put up with the security checks to purchase handguns at gunshows for years. I have a clean record. What else is needed? Get the punks and criminals to give up their guns, and the rest of us won’t need so much home and personal protection for ourselves, neighbors, and families! Semper Fi!

    • IndyMac April 8, 2013, 11:47 am

I too am a Vietnam Vet and retired Deputy Sheriff. They now want to label all vets as having mental disorders according to Feinstein. We all know the issue is not about Sandy Hook. 1. A background check would not have made any difference as the guns were stolen. 2. Not about Assault Weapons as statistics have proven such a small percentage is used in violent crime. 3. Not really about high cap (regular cap) mags, as it’s proven a changeout of mags in time is so small, the difference can hardly be measured. The issue is about “Control” of the populace and thats what this administration is working on. Universal Background check is a registration for future confiscation!!! The real issue will always be the social issue which never seems to be addressed!

I’ve been actively writting the White House and my legislators to encourage them not to impose any new gun restrivtive legislation on the public. It has been humorous to hear so many gun uneducated politicians and media personalities comment on gun restrictions with such rediculous arguments. It is the legitimate gun owners like me who are going to fall victum to these new legislations, not criminals nor those mentally challlenged individual who more often than not plan their attacks and do not necessarily follow the traditional path as authorized and trained gun owners like myself follow. The criticisms of the NRA by these parties as being over the top are as unrealistic as the arguements they make in favor of gun control. I there can’t blame the NRA for being equally unrealistic when fighting the misleading arguments made by the government and media. I’ve only recently begun to acquire firearms for enjoyment and find my desire to explore this wonderful right that we should enjoy and fight for as Americans. The arguments around why not restrict the types of guns and magazines available to the public would take on a different tone if it was argued that the founding fathers didn’t really mean “All Men are created equal” they only meant it to include Eastern, balding, professional men who owned at least 12 acres of land as being equal. Boy would you get the backlash then for imposing restrictions on our rights. So explain to me how restrictions by States don’t violate the 2nd Amendment? I encourage everyone to write the White House and their Legislators against the imposition of any gun restriction legislation. Universal background checks is the first step towards surrendering your guns. What do you expect will happen if that is passed into law and fails to eliminate the growing acts of violence around the US?

  • david April 5, 2013, 11:08 am

I believe most of what is said above and will contact my representatives and appreciate your thoughts. One of the things that concerns me is that on both sides of the “issue” there seems to be writers, politicians, bloggers, etc who make statements like … “Almost all crime guns statistically are previously stolen and bought on the street from mutually known criminals.” … taken from your article above. I believe this statement to be true but you say it is statistically proven. My guess is that there are many other statistics in this table and elsewhere that would be helpful to people like myself who choose to speak to others. Point is … WHOSE STATISTICS are these? Where are they written and recorded, I want to use them but I want to know the source and where to send opponents to get them?

    • Administrator April 5, 2013, 11:22 am

The problem is that there is no central data on crime guns, so when we or anyone else says something like that it is almost purely anecdotal. Individual department spokespeople will address the subject and they almost universally will say that the guns mostly come up as stolen. Because of the efforts of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and their “don’t lie for the other guy” awareness campaign, straw purchases are much rarer these days. We had a guy in south florida go to jail for like 60 years because he intentionally sold guns to straw purchasers, and they do get a lot of attempts in the border states (which is what Fast and Furious was about), but anecdotal comments from police departments almost universally says that crime guns are mostly stolen. Guns are a prime target for burglaries. The dealer we use to take in our review guns for the Magazine & Blog had two of our guns stolen out of his car, and one of his guns that were stolen showed up in a crime less than two weeks later. He still didn’t get the gun back.

This “background check”, like everything else government is mandates, will have unintended consequences. (Although, in this case we can be certain the consequences actually are intended) I have been shooting since the age of twelve, but just suppose I wanted to give a .22 rifle to my fourteen year-old grandson. The government would require a background check; paperwork, registration, and you can bet it wouldn’t come without cost.
Actually, none of this would happen. The Government would tell me that no individual under eighteen could legally possess a firearm. A similar situation would transpire if I wanted to give a pistol to a nineteen year-old granddaughter to protect herself in her first apartment. Forget the bureaucracy; I would be forbidden to do so There would be an age twenty-one limitation.
While this would concern me, it would not matter to the average criminal or gang-banger who would simply ignore this nonsense.

The best gun control is knowing how and when to use a weapon not what its cost is. Background checks okay but how about protecting gun owner’s right to privacy the way we protect people’s medical history. This way thugs don’t have a shopping list provided by NY newspapers. Second bring the castle doctorine back and put it into law. That way aggressors have something else to worry about. Put some armed cops in schools not rent a cop security guards use the money saved from slashing politicians security details. Kids ,jobs ,our civil liberties. and health care are important not politicians and their expense accounts. The Constitution reads” by the people and for the people” not by the media and for the media. Pistols kill many more than so called “assault rifles.” If this vendetta was about killings it would be pistols that they wanted to ban. When they came for the Pole’s the Jew’s said nothing when they came for the Jew’s there were no Pole’s. They want them all, get real. When after a year no resulting decline in the rate of deaths result from an “assault weapon” ban what do think their next agenda will be? Yeah Pistols and Shotguns. Stand together or fall apart.

Gun Control and Mass Shootings 101:
A man mentions feeling depressed to a psychiatrist. He’s given, without any blood tests, or science of any kind, powerful anti-depressants (SSRI’s like Prozac). He continues to feel depressed except now he is having violent thoughts (see warning label on drug packaging). Despite him not having any prior history of violent behavior, he ends up shooting complete strangers. It’s tragic and makes no sense.
The psychiatric establishment uses the incident to ask for more government funding (tax-payer money).
The government uses the incident to forward its agenda of disarming law-abiding citizens.
The big-pharma industry laughs all the way to the bank while the FDA and media outlets ignore the well documented connection between SSRI drugs and mass shootings. Why? Because media outlets and the FDA/government are paid massive sums of money by big-pharma in the form of campaign donations and advertising dollars.

    • Dave April 5, 2013, 10:25 am

Good one Ben. You forgot 1 thing…the depressed guy goes on his shooting spree with a 10 round clip in his pistol. But…because he had an “Assault style” rifle in the trunk of his car or at home the media does what they do best and report the shooting was done with a high-capacity assault rifle. Then the politicians run with the “Bent” truth and push their agendas to ban all assault weapons, clips over 7 rounds….
Seriously? It just means that the person will be come a better shot with fewer bullets! Oh right, the criminal on his way out the door leaves his 50 round banana clip home in favor of his new compliant 5 round clip so that he will not get in more trouble. OK maybe he will just grab the other 9 clips just to be safe. What the hell is wrong with everyone?

It was stated by NYC Police Commissioner Kelly who is in favor of anti-gun legislation, made clear in a subsequent statement that law abiding citizens were not to be held responsible for murders and crimes committed in NYC, which, in fact committed by criminals who got guns from illegal sources outside of NY. So, lets take guns away from law abiding citizens. For sure that will have a positive impact on reducing criminals from doing what they do, and will continue to do nationally. Just think, leaving the Police, and or any other powerful government agencies be the only ones who possess, and carry firearms I believe would create a more common phrase associated with various governments around the world POLICE STATE. What happening to AMERICA, a country and a government who daily sheds the blood of Americans around the wall in the name of DEMOCRACY based on the moral history of what our forefathers, and Americans fought for throughout that history, and continue to fight, to make and keep America free! Our political leaders throughout history have also fought to protect our freedoms such as what has become an intrinsic right…The Second Amendment, which clearly defines what democracy means and is!!! Democracy, as the law, has always been defined as and written based on what morays and values best serve and protect the majority people. Have we become a country so dependent on foreign interests that we have forgotten America? Are the powers that be so self serving and want so much power they are willing to undo all that has been done, and have what I call “Red Gold, Blood or Americans” spilled in vain, making America can become just another Third World Country!
Life unfortunately is always judged and rated as a test; you get a “98-A” on a test, and the first question asked is “what did you get wrong”! That’s the way the proposed gun legislation is being based on. Statistically the few very tragic events, and or crimes can have political fingers pointed at good law abiding Americans, and responsible legal concealed firearm carriers, or gun owners. That % is so small it would be almost impossible to accurately measure. Yet that is what President Obama, NY Governor Cuomo and other so called those people who call themselves our “Constitutional Representatives” falsely trying to make us believe Americans owning guns presents national threat. So what are they really saying? Americans are basically criminals, and are to be held accountable for the crimes and tragedies of an unmeasurable % of mentally ill , deranged people, or others who do these acts for whatever reasons?
Are they trying to tell, and dictate to us, that we as Americans who get an “A+” in the real world, haven’t scored high enough throughout history, to the present, to continue to deserve our freedoms, and democracy?
I believe all good Americans know who has really failed the test, badly. It’s a tragedy that we have to , and must continue to fight these Un-American Balttles… ON OUR OWN SOIL! AND FIGHT WE WILL!!! Speak out. Let them know what true America is all about, and stands for.

In a genuine effort to protect myself, my family, my friends and Nabors,
      My property, my town, my county, my state and beloved country;
      If some irresponsible people decide that I do not have the God given right to do just that;
I have to find a legal and practical way to qualify in the eyes of the people
As an individual who is ready willing and able to do whatever is necessary….
      -Disabled American Patriot-
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” -Thomas Jefferson-

    Silverbullet?
I absolutely agree we should lock up everybody that disagrees with me (sorry, that means you). Why don’t you move to Egypt or maybe even North Korea where that sort of thing happens all the time. You’ll fit right in. 🙂

If you follow the letter of the law, Constitutional law, those who contribute to and profess gun bans are internal terrorists.
We know Holder wont prosecute them but what about some State Attorney General? Start taking evidence to state Grand Juries. Issue warrants and put them in jail without bond until trial. Prosecute them and send them up the river. I think that is one way to stop these liberal idiots.
Additionally, with all the enemies the US has managed to incur in recent years due to faulty and deceptive ‘intel’ designed to keep us at war constantly, why would the government want to disarm the world’s largest army, the American citizens? That one question in itself proves those in power are either idiots or have an ulterior motive. Either way, they are internal terrorists and deserve the same treatment we would give any other terrorist.

It seems they already won, all the minor shootings (sorry) do not change the fact that just like Hitler we voted him in.

  • Hugh April 5, 2013, 8:34 am

Schumer is an enemy of the people. I have written him five times in the past two months voicing my concerns about proposed unconstitutional gun laws at the federal level. I have received the same boilerplate response from Schumer, claiming that he supports the 2ond Amendment. Schumer is a two faced liar who says one thing and does another. I can’t wait to vote this traitor out of office. You can bet that I have been watching him and I am a registered voter. Think about that Schumer, there are millions more like me who know the truth about you.

The difference between Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Polpot and today’s would be dictators like Bloomberg is 70 years. The registration of firearms is the first step that a modern would – be tyrant must accomplish. Registration of guns is the path despots have taken before consfication insures that the power we hold today is taken from us. Do not surrender our Bill of Rights freedom. Americas founding fathers realised that, in the course of years to come, attempts to over throw the Constitution would arise by power mad politicians. Americans cannot allow the insane to take away a basic right of our freedom.

  • Mike April 5, 2013, 7:43 am

One problem is that when folks like Schumer and Bloomberg say “gun registration” they really mean “gun owner registration”. I believe that in today’s world of high-security, encrypted databases, it would be possible to integrate a background-check program with a system to register and track guns while guaranteeing anonymity for gun owners. Routine sales and transfers could be legally made without the personal identities of the buyer and seller being disclosed to each other or to the government. If the ownership trail of a particular gun had to be revealed, it could only be done by a court order or search warrant, and mass disclosure of ownership records would be impossible. Supporting the development of such a system might provide some credibility for gun owners, and the reaction of the gun-control side would be interesting to see.

We need to remind all FFL’s that they cannot divulge the personal information about their customers without breaking the law. They do not have to submit to any government pressure to do so. If they don’t have the
balls to stand their ground then they can be sued and jailed by their own customers.

      • Capt. Bob April 5, 2013, 4:55 pm

As an FFL I have to provide information on a specific individual if a court order says so. If I go out of business, the law says I must turn over all records to the BATFE. As was said in the article, we’ll have gun registration in a generation because that’s the maximum I will last before becoming deceased and my records will be then the property of the government (unless there is a house fire). What we need to push is the elimination of page 3 on the 4473 form. This is where the details (Make/Model/serial number/Type/Caliber) of each gun transferred is recorded. If we say to the politicians, “You say want background checks but not registration? Eliminate the gun details!.” THEN we would see what their real agenda is. If all they really wanted was a check on an individual to see if they could legally buy a gun WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHAT KIND OR CALIBER IT IS ?????

        • joe April 8, 2013, 6:37 am

          Capt Bob:

If the details of the gun are eliminated why would we need FFL’s? How would investigators get to the Straw Purchasers who are the LEGAL people that buy guns?

          • Mrrick April 9, 2013, 7:58 am

Then call it what it is. Gun Registration. Not background check. Straw purchases are another thing.

    • Terry Rohan April 8, 2013, 6:13 am

what you emasculated men dont realize, tho’ your wives will let you know when it is time to sell your mancave furniture, she wont save you from having your ass raped by the next president.
Grow some balls, and tell her you want to keep your dad’s rifle, she quit pleasing you long ago anyway right?
Dont worry, she will still lay out your clothes for you, Capon.

  • Steve April 5, 2013, 4:31 am

AMEN! Well written article. Stressing the importance and bringing the true evil intentions that lie in wait behind “universal background checks”. They try to down play it all day and feed it to the media zombies that believe everything they hear or see on tv. I will get this out and continue fighting for our rights through social networks and pushing our representatives to not give into the slow destruction of this great country.

  • JR April 5, 2013, 4:22 am

One more thing. If you sit there and say that no one cares what I feel or think and that I only have one vote and how does that matter? Remember that there are millions of us with one vote, which amounts to millions of votes. What you think and how you vote does matter. Remember those that voted for stripping us of our rights and VOTE them out of office next elections.

  • JR April 5, 2013, 4:19 am

Most people won’t know what happened until it’s all said and done. Stay awake, take off those blinders! Look around you and see what’s happening to our freedoms given to us by our founding fathers. Three percent is the amount of people that fought for our freedom from the King of England. The rest of the population at that time didn’t see it coming or didn’t care. Wake up, open your eyes and take those blinders off before it’s too late.

  • Steve April 5, 2013, 4:14 am

“Tyranny thrives best where government need not fear the wrath of an armed people…. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision… Assuming you can never lose your freedom, is a mistake a free people get to make only once.”
